hiya guys,
after hard resetting my phone there was a small icon on the bottom right of the screen representing the battery power. Now for some reason its gone and i cant get it back. I have to goto settings and look up the power in there. Anyone no how to get this back or if there is an addon i can install to show battery power maybe on the top bar or on the today screen again?
Check your Startup folder to see if Init_Tray.exe is still present.
yeh init_tray.exe is still there, i have got the wifi icon there, just not power
I think the 02 software removes it I noticed the same thing last night
not much good anyway is it , I am happy with the one on the today screen (big one)
yeh problem is ive done a corporate install because its alot quicker without all that o2 stuff on it. Its just weird, coz its been like for like a week, and one day its just not there any more, cant work it out
Yes, if you check the o2 extended rom there's a cab just to remove the battery icon, because they stick one in the title bar instead I think. There's a registry setting that should help you get it back, but I can't recall it right now.

found out how to fix this just incase anyone else is havin this problem. If you goto file explorer and browse to the window directory, theres a program called powertray.exe, open this and there you, power bar back in the system tray
Hello,
I believe many of you are (or have been) having similar problems - I wonder if there's a solution for this?
The problem I have is that when the device comes back from sleep (that is, when I open it after not using it for a while) the screen lights up immediately, but the device is extremely unresponsive. Trying to click the Start menu (or anything else on the screen for that matter) will appear to do nothing at first - then when the device finally comes to its senses (10-30 seconds later) my clicks are "played back" at lightning speed. From then on the device is usable, but this delay is infuriating.
I have ROM 1.13.53 WWE (from Sep-23) with radio 1.03.01. My notifications database is small (15 entries) and I'm not running a lot of apps (I have PocketPlus installed).
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a solution?
TIA
Are you using any Themes? Try switching back to the standard wm5 theme. My m5000 gets very glacier-like as soon as I try any other theme.
Try this.
Thanks for the replies!
I'm using the default theme. As for this Uni-Turbo thing, what does it do? Just so I know before I install it?
it will speed u your processor, after istall u will find the changing botton on Start/Settings/System/Power/Processor it works but using more power.
Im using this, it works Great ... i think its free, but
It essentially places a control panel file in \Windows which 'replaces' the power control panel item. The replacement is from another device, which has a Turbo Mode. So this gives you the ability to activate the turbo mode on your Universal. I've tried it - its safe to use and removing it returns things back to normal.
Try it and see if anything improves. I can guarantee though, that you'll see far more improvement by hard resetting (use Sprite Backup's free beta to backup emails, contacts, messages, etc).

If you have some Today plugins installed on your device it might slow down the response after turning it on.
For example:
I've got the Resco Explorer installed with it's Today plugin, and my device comes back with the plugin displayed in 15 seconds after opening it.
But when I turn off displaying Resco Today plugin it comes back immediately, after opening... (0,5 secs)
HoPe
My Uni works very well, but then I use it for next to nothing, but I keep memory clean with VJOkButt and stay away from memory resident stuff.
Although not exactly for this question, installing the extended rom dialler had a dramatic impact on speed on mine. If you don't need the pretty buttons, I highly recommend the stock MS Dialler.

Start button slowdown on first use
On the issue where the start button doesn't seem to do anything for a while after a suspend or soft reset:
The reason is that an application is listed in the Start Menu which resides on the SD card. What happens is that the Start menu tries to load the icon of the application from the SD card, which first has to wake up, causing the slowdown.
Same thing happens when you're browsing through the Programs folders (Start -> Programs), and there is a pause while loading the application shortcuts.
It's quite annoying, and I think it may be related to one or other registry hack.
Use SmallMenu!

is there any way to uninstall the extended rom dialer? it's neither listed in the list of installed programs (in SKTools) nor in \Windows\AppMgr :/
thanks, fuf.

BeyondTheTech has an interesting article somewhere on Skype with this issue.
I just use SmallMenu, the normal StartMenu is useless to me.
Uninstalling the extended rom - i don't think so. You can probably manually delete the files it installs, but it'd be incredibly tedious and perhaps inaccurate/unstable. Best is to hard reset and setup again, but that's also tedious.

So how come then I have the same thing when browsing anything for the first time after the soft reset even when I have NOTHING installed on the SD card?

If you are using SPB Pocket Plus or any other similar software and allowing the SD card indicator on your today screen just remove it and you will realize the difference.
Also avoid to use any battery indicator on today screen as it will slow the device as well.
My last advice to you if you are using SPB Pocket plus is to un-install it and use any other similar program like Resco today plugins.... this will also speed up your device becuase the available version of SPB pocket plus is not completely compatible with WM5.
Regards,
I am using SPB PP (beta release) and its fast, but I didnt have a real problem with the earlier releases. I also use SPB diary and SPB Weather, and still no real problem, slightly sluggish but not intolerable.
My device wakes up perfectly immediately every time, and rings at the beginning of the second ring.
1. Remove SD card and battery monitors
2. Disable some of the additional SPB plug ins that you dont need like safe mode boot, PIE plug ins, battery monitor etc
3. Remove the antivirus software
4. Disable error reporting
5. Disable auto receive beams
6. Try disabling SPB altogether and see if it is still sluggish and unresponsive
7. Dont have anything on SPB or other that is immediately directed to the SD card as the SD card takes longer to recognise on wake up
8. Consider not switching the device off. I never turn it off, at all, wind down screen brightness, disable auto off, but auto off the screen only, close the clam shell switches off the screen but doesnt switch off the machine. the screen sucks the battery, not the processor.
Let me know if you have had any luck with this.
Perhaps you could also:
1. Ensure you have the latest rom from the website
2. Dont allow the extended rom to install (hard reset, and press reset when it says customising device), then use total commander to go to the extended rom and selectively install the items you need, this forum is full of information for this.

I just tried it and I have to admit I already like smallmenu. One question please: How do I customize smallmenu?
It seems to me it is locked at the following list:
Today
Programs
Favorites
Commonly Used Programs
Settings
Suspend
SmallMenu
I reset my device before any of the crap from Ext.Rom could install. I now have a speeeeeedy device. Oh, i am using an i-mate Jasjar btw.

I disagree, try to power off the device every time you close the clam and power it on when you open it and you will see how much the battery life will improve. It really makes the difference, I just can't be bothered and am too lazy to do it  I charge it every night anyway.
If you're looking to get rid of the menu bar at the bottom of the Today Screen, read on. This is not a new tip, but might save you time, as there's a lot of different versions of these programs flying around. Only the one below works on WM6 / HTC Touch.
I personally find that the Menu Bars at the bottom of the Today Screen really spoil the look of the HTC Touch's sleek black/grey theme. Besides, the Comm Manager and Contacts are both accessible via the spinning cube (or the camera button if you install Double Launcher) so there's no need to have on the Today Screen, you may as well get more space for plugins, or just to keep everything looking neat and tidy. See screenshot below!
Here's how to banish them forever (?!) :
1. Download ToggleTodayIIAlpha from this link:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjtoggletodayii/vjtoggletodayiialpha.exe
2. Copy it to your \Windows\Startup directory. (or somewhere else and paste a shortcut instead)
3. Go into the registry and edit this key:
HKLM/Software/Vijay555/VJTodayToggle
Change these keys:
Softkeysize = 1
StartSize = 26
TrayVisible = 1
That's it! I've had no massive problems with this so far, although I haven't been testing it for too long. I'd be interested to hear how people get on in terms of stability/bugs. You WILL get problems if you try to use any of the older VJTodayToggle programs in the thread on this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=243211
(SIP keyboard staying on, SIP moving to the top of the screen, menu titles disappearing but not the background, etc.)
...in fact, that's precisely why I'm sharing this info with you, as this thread is 39 pages long and it's only towards the end that things become totally clear! I'll post again if there's any unexpected side-effects, I'm currently minimising BatteryStatus and I don't know whether this will
Good luck!
Carlos
NOTES / ADVANCED
=======================
A: If you want to make your screen even neater AND still overclock your Touch, then, in step 3 above, you can make TrayVisible=0 then you can minimise the BatteryStatus plugin and it won't show up on your today screen. (right click on batterystatus icon, choose 'show rows -> minimise') I haven't tested this properly yet.
B: If you want to explore hiding the Start Menu, feel free, it looks superb when you first do it, but then I have found that the HTC biotouch (spinning cube) automatically re-instates the start menu bar when it's deactivated each time.
C: Please note, this program ( tt2.exe) DOES NOT TOGGLE, even though it's called that! Again, it's a 39 page thread, I warned you...
D: You can also run TT2.exe with a -config option to avoid editing the registry, but this would actually make the above even more long-winded to explain to any n00bs.
E: A nice new HTC wallpaper is doing the rounds without the logo. (As you can see from my screenshot, it's mis-positioned with the extra screen space) See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830
F: Vijay555 has been meaning to release a new (non-alpha) version of the software for some time, but sounds pretty busy. He seems like an all-round splendid guy though and I'd like to thank him for this software and his continued postings/programming.
I have the HTC X7500 WM6 and I've been desperate to make it works.
I've been trying other version from the 40 pages thread, so I'll try this one and I will post result.

Good luck! The honest truth is that after I'd posted this, I discovered a couple of bugs that appeared in soak testing. I gave up in the end - it worked 90% but I would still occasionally get conflict, e.g. the SIP keyboard would appear at the top of the screen sometimes and only a soft reset would put it back where it was meant to be!

Yep I confirm that, SIP keyboard is there, and sometimes as well softkeys stay there after softreset.
Well actually for me it's even worse, it's hiding the system tray (the bar just above the softkeys bar) where we can add shortcuts icons and keep the softkeys bar enabled..
Im disappointed but thks for vijay555 for all the efforts
Perfect... without HTC Logo is even better...
Thanks Carlos,
I've just installed and its working fine. With the clean background from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830 looks even better.
Cheers,
Marcelo

See my original post, have you tried setting TrayVisible=1 in the registry, this should show the system tray.
I followed exactly what u posted, it displayed it correctly the first time, then after soft reset it was displaying only the softkeys bar and hiding the system tray bar
Thks anyway
How does this look on screens BESIDES the today screen? I have used other programs on different WM phones in the past and although the bottom bar disappears on the today screen, it is still on other screens.
Also, can you use the bottom of the screen or is it just dead space? Some of us have moved the HTC Home Plug to the bottom of the page and if it is just dead space, it is going to look bad....

The menu bar is visible on other screens, this behaviour is by design. I cannot see why anybody would want it invisible on other screens, as you normally need those softkeys for menus in most programs!
As far as I know you can use the bottom of the screen, it is not dead space. But why not try it out - it's unlikely to do any harm. You can always delete it from your startup directory to uninstall if you don't want it.

Well it works well so far.....(Not my screen, Neo's screen @ HoFo)
I can't remember if the TrayVisible setting even works - I think it was something I was intending to build in, but never got around to it.
Apologies... I'm kinda programming again, had lots going on, so never finished the app. Sorry for you guys having to use my unfinished piece of cr*p. I'll make it work properly one day!

HELP!!!
I installed this, but I don't know how to get into the registry from an .exe file, so I just tried to open the file through my phone, and instead it has hidden my start bar, as well as the bottom bar. How do I reverse this???

How did you "move" the HTC Home plugin to the bottom part of the Today-screen without any plugin above it? I searched all over the forums, but I cannot find the answer to this question

Use the HTC Home customizer to "unlock" it. Then you can move it around like normal.
However, it doesn't redraw correctly on the right side if you unlock it, and a scrollbar comes and goes.
i have a other solution!! PCM shrink installe it and your bar remove it s very easier! For become to the original config juste delete the programmz!!
won't stick
Hi..very nice and easy Zip File..just one problem: the toggle won't stick after a soft reset = one has to go into File Explorer..double click the Toggle File and only than the screen is "clean" again.
Any way to make the toggle "stick"?
I have not this problem! I install the cab i going on the explorer and today shrink and clik on after i reboot my pda ans the bar not appear ... You can try put a abbreviated of today skrink in WINdows/started for star the application automatic on windows sartup
the result of the appl:
I have this running at startup on my Tilt, works with screen rotations and everything! And the hard keys are still mapped to calendar and contacts for quick access, awesome.
Many thanks, couldn't stand those useless soft keys before.

The programs coming from earlier WM versions are fully functional but the menu titles in the bottom bar do not show off.
However when you click on them , the menu appears.(See VisualGPSce for example).
I have tried to change the resolution but the problem remains.
I have not found this problem listed in the forums but I know that it is common as I have seen such programs with a blank bottom bar in some tests.
Any idea ? Thanks !
Yep I got that too. Was a bit worried at first but I think there's a registry key somewhere that can be altered. Just can't remember where!! However if I do remember i'll post it (or possibly someone else will remember before I do...)
It's not a problem as long as I can remember what menu option is where....
>Replying in english, because my school german sucks
>This is an issue with the Today screen theme 'Xperia black', not Total >Commander CE. You have the problem in all programs using standard WM >menus.
>If you try another theme, the menu text appears.

This is what I have seen on this matter in the Total Commader Forum.
I would be happy if you could remeber the tweak ...
dingolino
Menu titles
Use Raiisak´s Flatbar Black cab when you use Xperia black theme like me and don´t forget rename xperia black theme to defaul.tsk and activate default.tsk in settings today... work fine for me... old trick from my old Hermes time
Thanks ! Just changed the Today theme to default Windows and it works :text now shows !
I just cheated with mine - did a registry edit on the Xperia Black theme!
HKCU\\Software\Microsoft\Today\XPERIA Black.tsk
changed the value in "Color_CommandbarText" to 55,55,55,00
Bit of a "fiddle" but it works fine for what I needed! I may try 77,77,77,00 and see if that's still useable
you have to reset the device as soon as you've updated the value or it doesn't appear to want to stick.....
I am experiencing a rather frustrating problem here. When I change the volume in HTC's audiomanager, it appears a grey column on the left side of the screen (see pic) instead of the green overlay in the middle of the screen as it should be.
What is the problem here and how can I solve this? IMHO, there is a PNG missing. But where do I find that PNG and where should that be stored on my device?
I just found another user with the same problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5028797&postcount=192
It seems that by installing A_Brians WM6.5 Taskbar gfreek edition, I did change HTCVolumeControl.dll.
I will try to change it back to the original DLL.
OK, I have reinstalled the original DLL from the ROM using SKTools, after changing HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\OverlayUI from 0 to 1 the grey column has disappeared, but the overlay stays also disapeared.
I'm having the same problem. I think it has something to do with the custom taskbar you have installed. I installed a custom taskbar myself and it caused my music volume graphic to disappear too. I beleive it has something to do with HTCVolumeControl.dll which has been changed. I re-installed it but it made no difference. If anyone has a solution to this, it would be much appreciated.
Happy New Year!!
*EDIT* Snap! It looks like you found the problem at exactly the same time I posted this. Spooky!!!! If you find a solution to the problem, please post it here. Thanks.
Well I simply gave up after long horus of REG tweaking and changing files from the ROM and from the internet to get it back.
I hard resetted the Phone yesterday and voila, the volume overlay is back. It's an awfully dirty procedure, because I spent half of the night and a few hours today to get all Programs and Settings back. Unfortunately I had only backed up the whole system (including that overlay problem), so the backup was not very helpful at all.
I remember reading, I think its to do with that taskbar you have installed, I had it and had the same problem, now I dont (hard resetted) and my music bar is sorted
I uninstalled the taskbar. No change.
Then I tried to get HTCVolumeControl.DLL back from ROM, no change.
I treid to install a HTCVolumeControl.DLL from the Internet, no change. Well, there was a change here. I had WM Volume control suddenly. You know, the black and white control bars at the top right corner we all remeber from WM5.
Then I gave up.
