Thanks for help. I have gone through opera:config but couldn't find anything that controls the auto rotation behavior.
Here is the fix that I am using for that problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439136
rename the value name in "idletime" in HKLM/SOFTWARE/OPERA/GSensor, from 1 to 123456 using something like *resco registry*

Hi guys,
Does anyone know of a way of being able to type sms in landscape mode as a default.
i.e. if i choose to type an sms the phone switches to landscape until it's sent and then flips back to portrait.
I prefer typing in landscape but so far i have had to map the hardware key to rotate the screen and have to press this before typing an sms
Just wondering if there is a more elegant method.
TIA

Hi,
I was wondering if you have found an answer for that. I'm looking to be able to do that too. Please let me know. So far, I was looking into the registry cause I guessed that we just create a key or something and it would work..or maybe not...and I have found two values for the Camera within the registry so I am sure that it would be possible to do that for the SMS and Browser as well.
I will keep on searching and let you know.
Work Around
I know this isn't the ideal way of doing it. But until someone smart enough figures out the registry entry for this idea...you can youse wisbar advanced 3, it has a setting that lets you set certain programs to rotate... hope this helps until someone figures it out!

Thanks I have tried that but I didn't like it. The app took over all my settings and I would prefer just to add or change a reg key then to install another software.
Thanks again and hope to have the perfect solution for that one day...
Remarkable idea!I feel like I will love typing sms in landscape too!
Not sure where to post this so I created a thread.
Forgive me if this is not correct.
Playing wiht the registry I found the key HLM->System->GDI->Rotation which has a HideOrientationUI attribute. Set it to 0 and the standard screen rotation option will appear in the control panel
great find !!!
thats great news findinf that..is it possible to set soft key to rotate when required ?
thanks again for that !!

It gives you an extra option in Control Panel that lets you select if the display is Landscape or Portrait.

You can use Gyrator or GSen to do that
Yes, this is not automatic it just re-enable the standard screen panel to manually select orientation.

please advise, how, would love to be able to work on documents etc in landscape (auto switch) mode if possible.
Peter.
As apd said for the automatic rotation you can use Gyrator or GSen. Otherwise with this you can start your app and then manually rotate the screen from the control panel.
just tried this and it says "access denied" when i edit the value data and change the 1 to 0
am i missing something?
Steve
used resco regedit ... works!
wow. This is really nice. Thanks! now I don't need the gyrator!
I can find nothing new after manipulating the registry.
Where can i exactly find the option in control panel?
In the Screen menu. If you still can't see the option, try a soft reset.
excellent find. thnx for sharing!
any program to change that or a cab file ??
thanks
Ill try this on the diamond to see if it works.
I wish I could try it with the demo phone @ the store (touch HD) before buying it.
I tried the registry edit on the demo Touch HD at the store.
The problem is that it keeps reverting back to portrait mode after accessing the phone menu.
So it will remain perfectly in landscape mode till I try to enter a phone number.
The phone menu is vertical, then it remains vertical.
Any info?
thanks.

Hi there!
I have been searching for a solution to this problem for quite some time now but I haven't found a solution... Maybe someone here has an idea?
I want to lock my device in landscape mode! I don't want it to rotate to portrait mode in any circumstance! But I just seem to be unable to do so...
I'm running Duttys 2.6 and disabled flip-it, which got rid of any auto-rotation in manila and most other programs, but two problems remain:
1) Whenever I switch from a program back to TouchFlo (hitting the home-key for example), the display switches back to portrait instead of staying in landscape.
2) Opera always does what it wants and I haven't found any solution that would enable me to disable auto-rotation in Opera.
The second problem is not a biggie... I could live with Opera rotating. But the first one is driving me mad! I always have to rotate the screen again after everytime I visit TouchFlo!
So... Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Not sure if this would work, but why not enable FlipIt and have everything set @ 270 degrees and untick 0 degrees
Other alternatives would be g-sen & gyrator and try and disable 0 degrees or portrait
Obviously certain apps won't work in landscape and aren't designed to so you will always have times when you need portrait
Let me know if this worked

Damn... that's such a smooth solution... and it actually works!
Why on earth didn't I think of this???
Thanks a bunch!
Ok - I'm back with a new request...
I want to be able to rotate the device manually - right now, rotating it manually works flawlessly. I assigned one of the customizable gestures of WkTask to rotate.
But I still have the first problem I have described in my opening post: Whenever I switch back to TF3D or between running apps, my HD switches back to portrait!
Any ideas?
I have searched around the forum but I've only found threads discussing landscape mode with the old manila version - but I'm running Dutty's 3 XT with the new manila!
And ofcourse I would be very thankful for any advice on how to disable rotation in Opera - even though this is not that much of a problem...
maybe if you go into settings of flip-it and goto manila.exe and untick 0degrees and only 270degrees ticked, if you do this with all the apps in the list and put the exe files of other programs you use alot in it manually and also untick 0 and tick 270, then everything should stay in landscape and cant go to portrait. hope this works for you, test it and let us know

Keeping everything in landscape works fine with the solution Fallen Spartan posted - but I want to be able to manually rotate between Landscape and Portrait!
hi all
i want to use garmin for 30 min or much but after 1 min my device lights goes off and then display off and lock what can i do for disable auto device lock and auto off after 1 min
BR
weird, i don't have that problem.. try configuring your GMXT, go to settings --> display --> backlight override and check all boxes..
p/s: if u wanna enable auto rotate so that u could view the maps in widescreen mode, add these codes to your registry..
for hkcu\software\htc\htcsensor\gsensor\modulename, add registry value "Garmin Mobile XT" = "\Garmin\Que.exe"
for hkcu\software\htc\htcsensor\gsensor\WhiteList, add registry value "Garmin Mobile XT" = "QUE_SUBAPP_WND_CLASS"
Garmin in landscape
Hi, thanks for the tip!
I always wanted to see GMXT in landscape, but didn't know how to do it.
I have copy/pasted values to the suggested locations, but nothing happened.
The registry values I have created are string values. Should I try with e.g. dword, or something else?

hi man i check all boxe in setting -> display -> backlight but after one minute my device goes to lock stat and after that my display goes off .
i want registry address for time of suspend mode for device to lock and change it to example 20 min
BR
Maybe you should check only the first one that says "always on".

have u tried re-installing the GMXT..?
non of your help is useful we need registry value change for that
I'm having the same problem. Garmin worked perfectly for the last 2 months up until last week. now it locks automatically (but you still have to press the unlock button to be able to slide across the tab) and it loses satellite reception for a second. To avoid it I have to, say zoom in or out on the map, every 50 seconds otherwise it locks after it reaches a minute.
Has anyone found a solution or is it just a case of reinstalling it?
Sorry to revive this thread but I also have this problem. "Backlight Override" is checked but still have the lock come on after a minute or so. Really annoying. I also try reinstalling but no help.
Could this have something to do with CHT editor's lockscreen? or BSB tweak's setting? Just a thought. I have been using Android mostly so haven't got time to test out all the setting to see if it will make any difference.
as a work around, can you just change your backlight settings when you need to use garmin?
Is there any way to disable the send window when the user enters text to an EditText in landscape orientation in my app? I mean this:
View attachment 2101779
It is quite annoying because the user cannot see the app anymore. I searched and played around with setInputType but didn't find anything that worked and I don't want to disable landscape orientation totally.
Thanks in advance.
No ideas?
I thought maybe the WindowManager. LayoutParams.softInputMode could do the trick when set to one of the SOFT_INPUT_ADJUST... methods here.
Will this work or is it a totally wrong way or even not possible at all?
are you trying to hide the "senden" button, or the whole edit text window(everything between the keyboard and the status bar)?

The whole window. I want to be able to see the the other buttons my app has there.
Not sure if this is what you want but add the following line to your editbox XML:
Code:
android:imeOptions="flagNoExtractUi"
