If my memory serves me right, when I had my Blue Angel and wanted to manually connect to GPRS, I could click in the "G" icon in my title bar and I would get the option to connect to the GPRS setting that I had set up.
Now I have a T-Mobile Vario and WM5 - standard build etc..., but when I click that "G" I get the same message bubble titles "connectivity" , but with a message saying "To connect to either the internet or work, set up a new connection in Settings". Using the "connect" button in the SPB GPRS Monitor icon (on the title bar) connects with no worries.
I have tries adding a new connection in - now I have 2 that work perfectly when usign SPB, but not with the "G" icon.
Clicking the "G" icon must read the registry somewhere and look for the current GPRS settings, but I must be missing them.....hmmmm
HKLM/Comm/ConnMgr/Destinations/Providers........ all seems ok, but the "ConnectionGUID" specified in my connections is not found anywhere else in the registry!
Can anyone help?
thanks

I am also facing the same problem .. Cannot get the option to connect appear as in my previous Blue Angel ..
This creates problem for updating my RSS channels using SPB Insight which needs to have some connection in Connectivity bubble ..
Anyone found the solution?
Assistants required!!
I have attempted to set up GPRS on my M600 (Unlocked for Vodafone sim)
GPRS has been enabled as I have the G icon up!
I have been on the vodafone website and tried there settings with no luck!
I have been on the Filesaveas website and plugged in all of those settings with NO luck, Have also installed the I-mate .cab again with no luck!!!
I am starting to go insane spent three days trying all different settings and No luck at all!!!!
You name the website and I think Ihave probably tried it.
Does anyone have any useful advise for me, provide me with some form of sanity check!!!!
Ideally I wold love a .cab file to install!
But would like feedback from anyone else in a similar position, on how they resolved this some what annoying issue!!!!
regards
Wilko_007
I set up my Vario II for Vodafone with no problem. These settings (*.pdf file) seem to be the same as the ones I used, see how they compare with the settings you are using.
Many thanks I will give it a go!
Ok have now got connection but I can't surf?
I have seen comments about GPRS beening fully enabled?
Are there 2 forms of GPRS that can be enabled? WAP & WEB???
Do I need to worry about the Dialing Rules???
Thanks in advance for your assistance!!

Could you be a little more specific i.e. does it come up with a pop-up box stating that it is connecting to GPRS? If yes, which connection does it say it is connecting to, is it the correct one (i.e. the new GPRS settings that you have just keyed in)? When you say it won't surf, what do you mean exactly ... are you using Pocket IE and does it come up with any error messages etc...
Connection via GPRS No probs I then get the Small G and the two arrows fixed on the bar.
Enter IE and type google for example.
get the status bar flash up breifly and then disapear, with no change to the original Orange World Home page!!!
No errors what so ever????
okay ... the next thing I would probably do then is download an alternative browser to see if it still happens in a different browser. Netfront is pretty good. At least that way you should be able to establish if it is a GPRS problem or a browser problem.
Ok I now have installed Netfront and connected to the GPRS!
typed in www.google.com
I have a warning screen:
Browser Warning
Cannot load Page
Type: DNS no server is specified
?????
Okay .. I am running out of ideas now, it does sound like your GPRS Settings are still wrong.
Click 'start menu', 'settings' and go to the 'Connections' tab. Now click 'Connections', then the 'Advanced' tab then 'Select Networks'. The first box (ie. Programs that connect to the Internet automatically) should say 'My Isp' and if you click 'Edit', it should show you 'Vodafone Internet' is selected.
If you then select to edit that, you should see in this order 'Vodafone Internet' and then it should show modem type as GPRS, next page should show Access Point Name of 'Internet', next page should show User name 'Web' ... password is the same, domain field should be blank ... nothing needs to be done in the advanced tab because the default of 'Use-server-assigned IP address' should automatically be selected, same for the server tab too, default should be server-assigned.
These are the settings that work fine on both my XDA Mini S and my MDA Vario II.
Right I have checked both ISP and MyWork Network, all correct!
The only thing I can see is that the password box has loads of characters (*'s) instead of just 3 *'s for WEB (***)
But every thing else is as the PDF??
Stumped!!!!
you can try messing with the newly released ms network tools there is a link in development forum
or you can try manualy typing in a know dns server in the settings
unless the gprs dont route the request
any dsn server ip will do
same as pc's really
I am afraid I don't know then ... we have reached the level of my knowledge (which isn't high )
Perhaps somebody with a little more technical knowhow on GPRS issues may be able to help you.
Sorry I couldn't get it sorted for you.
Thanks for your help a least I can connect now!!
Thank you again!!
anyone heard of the connection No. being *99#?
Vodafone instructed me to put that in the setup?
I guess that goes in under the " My Work Network" Vodafone Wap - Number?
This is now becoming a huge headache anyone got any ideas?
not sure how vodaphone handle it but i never heard about
ppl having to add numbers when they picked gprs as connection
belived that was only if you connected around grps

I'm expericening a similar problem.
My phone was sold as an O2 XDA Mini S. My O2 contract/account doesn't allow GPRS (they want me to upgrade) so I tried my Vodafone PAYG SIM and it works without having to have the phone unlocked in any way. By that I mean I can use voice calls and using the settings I've found through this site I can send MMS messages via GPRS but I cannot connect to the internet. I've checked with Vodafone and the account will allow internet and GPRS etc.
The only thing that I can see that is wrong is the password. Whenever I type "web" then finish, it always defaults back to a string of 16 ***'s when I re-check the settings.
I've even done a hard reset and used the corporate install to no avail. I don't want to run any sort of unlocking software if I don't need to as I don't want to create a very expensive door stop.
Any ideas?
The string of asterisks is normal, I think it is just a method used by Windows to make the password more difficult for someone to guess i.e. by disguising not only the characters but also the number of characters.
I just double checked and my fully working settings also show a row of asterisks despite it being a 3 character password.
Thanks Nicky
I'll keep plodding away with this but hopefully someone might steer me in the right direction soon.
;0)
I just applied this registry hack
Show Network Operator Name in today screen
Restoring Today Item: WiFi, BT and Phone Connection Status
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items]
Create "Wireless" use Key
"Flags"=dword:00000000
"Options"=dword:00000000
"DLL"="netui.dll"
"Order"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000004
to my imate jasjam and it works a treat. I wondering is there another hack or option to show the Cell Name/ID that the phone is currently connected to. Much like the option "Cell Info Display" on the Nokia phones.
Cheers

phoneAlarm does it.
On the Hermes, you can use the FieldTest.exe app available on the Wiki to view realtime raw statistics about the cells you're connected to and the various aspects of your connection, but as far as I know there's no tool to show the cell ID and the stuff the Nokia would show.
That didn't always work for me though on the Nokias I had... Depended on which phone I did it on, very odd.
Hello and happy new year to everybody,
a newbie question: I did the indicated trick and I display not only my carrier name, but also Wifi and BT status, plus my owner info.
I would like to display the carrier name only. Is that possible?
Thanks,
Richard

I think many people on XDA have been searching for a solution... and I think its been out there for quite a while!
You need to download this today screen plugin - it is able to show Cell Broadcast messages on the today screen, besides other nifty stuff. Best of all, its FREE!
http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_BatteryStatus_XDA_Neo_WM5_def_iM_cs.htm
Next, you also need to subscribe to the Cell Broadcast feature. It is located in your phone settings, under the "More" Tab. Enable Cell Broadcast, and add Channel 50 to the list of subscribed channels.
Channel 50 is the one that shows you the cell/area name (only on networks that support it) - the same ones you see on non-smartphone Nokia or Ericsson handsets.
I'm going to try it out myself now...
EDIT: It works! Brilliant!
Yes atlast something to cheer about
I was looking for this for long time, Have installed the extended version, I think its still not perfect when it comes to display area info. its better then commMgr by the way.
Cell info in 3G
Can anyone explain why I rarely see the cell info when the phone has 3G connectivity. If I turn off 3G, I get the cell info messages!
On my wife's Nokia, the cell info comes up in 3G or 2G coverage!

The tmobile settings can be found by searching the forums - they are in a few places.
Which ROM did you use - most now include the Network Wizard which will run automatically after upgrade. If not it is at Start\Settings\Connections. That will insert the correct settings for you.
Hi
Thanks for the quick reply.
ROM Version - 2.20.405.1
ROM Date - 06/21/07
Radio Version - 1.32.00.00
ExtROM - 2.20.405.101
Yes the Network Wizard is there and it puts the settings in but to no avail.
The 3G logo comes up and i have 4 bars to show high signal strength but whenever i try to connect to the net it says the modem you are connecting to has dropped the connection.
Can anyone point me to the correct thread?
Thanks
Alan
One more thing I did upgrade to real vga 128dpi
in connection settings change user name from
t-mobile to user

The connections settings are correct using the Network Wizard. The problem you are having may actually be a network problem. I get this from time to time with T-mobile UK - I will get this message for a couple of hours and it will then just stop (it often stops more quickly if I am on the move which I assume is becuase I am moving cells)
How do you mean you are 'no longer receiving texts'? is this a common request to cusomer services!?
Anyway as far as I know you cannot have settings sent by text to the Ameo, or any windows mobile device - you have to input them manually or use the settings wizard.
Try going on settings/phone/band and change to GSM - see if you still fail to get a connection. If so try upgrading your radio, then reflashing.
If this fails try another t-mobile SIM in the Ameo.
Your error is not one I have ever come across on T-Mobile uk using my Ameo.
T-Mobile settings:
Start - Settings - Connection - Connection - Under my ISP click on Manage Existing Conn.
Delete all connections in there, and click on Proxy at the bottom and remove the tick on this network requires Proxy.
Create a new connection:
Cell Line (GPRS)
Access Point: general.t-mobile.uk
Username: user
Password: pass
No DNS, no IP, no proxy.
Save and soft reset.
Good luck.
Thanks everyone!
Eventually got this sorted.
Works like a dream now
Reflashed, used the wizard and all is well in the world.
Is anyone having a problem with media player?
Every time I launch media player the ameo crashes (as in locks).
Thanks again

Current T-mob phones are coming out with USER as t-mobile, however, user still seems to work.
PASSWORD- pass
APN- general.t-mobile.uk
Again some units come with a Proxy pre installed (My N95 did)-
149.254.201.132
Proxy port- 8080
If this doesn't work then use without.
Also try a DNS server setting-
DNS 4.2.2.1
Alt DNS 4.2.2.2
Hi all,
Just thought I'd share this info in case others are having the same problems...I got my X1 on Vodafone last week, but was having some problems using the Internet with some apps, i.e. SPB mobile shell, Tomtom, Facebook Panel and Yahoo Go.
Basically, the Internet worked fine with Vodafone Live and Vodafone Find & Go but not with the other programs, i.e. when I was trying to update the weather in SPB Mobile Shell or use the Facebook panel.
I looked through the settings and it looks as though it connects to the Internet via a Proxy server (Vodafone's) for some reason....so I found out how to get around it.
Got to:
- Settings (in start menu)
- Connections (tab)
- Connections (icon)
- Advanced (tab)
- Select Networks
- Click on New
- Call it MyGPRS
- Click on the Modem Tab
- In the first option, call it Vodafone wap
- Select Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
- Click Next
- In the first option, Access point name = wap.vodafone.co.uk
- Click next
- Username = wap
- Password = wap
- Leave Domain blank
- Click Finish
- Click OK twice
- Go back to "Select Networks"
- In the top drop down, select the new connection you created (MyGPRS)
- Click ok
You should now be able to use all the Apps, but the vodafone live services dont work....unless you change your connection back to My ISP. I can now use BBC iPlayer (only over WiFi) though.
Anyone else experienced this problem? Can you shed any light on the situation for me please!
Thanks, and I hope this helps someone

Me too having this problem,i can't access vodafone live via gprs. Can someone please post the CORRECT gprs settings that we can work easily like normal phones....pleaseee
i was able to access vodafone live but its the text version, i wouldnt have bothered its just that vodafone have given me 1 months free tv package which im keep to check out.
i must have removed something deep in the phone like a dll or another type of file.
I have an untouched rom and dont really mess with my X1 but my live buttons dont work they just take me to the gogle homepage and thats it?
You need to use My ISP if you want access to the full Vodafone Live. You will also need to make sure that the user-agent in Opera is set to the Vodafone one and not IE or full Opera.
