Synchronise only specific Contacts with Outlook - Touch HD General

Hi,
my Outlook contains several hundred Contacts and i don't want to synchronise them all with my HD.
Is there any way to synchronise only some of them?
I already opened a new folder in "My Contacts" naming it "Contacts HD" but ActiveSync always wants to synchronise all of my Contacts instead of only the ones in that folder.
Any help???
Thanks, Oliver

Outlook will only sync the contacts folder.
Create another Contacts folder and drag all the contacts you don't need to sync into that.
You used to be able to sync categories - but Microsoft removed that useful feature - thanks Microsoft.

I had same concerns but the HD handles hundreds of contacrs effortlessly. Have you tried it?

I know, but not everyone wants to keep all the contacts on there!

Transfer contacts from W960i to X1

Which is the best way to do this? I have tried by just using sim card but contacts are all over the place!
Please help
Hi,
The way I did it was to use the Sony Ericsson suite to sync your contacts with your mail application (outlook). Then setup active sync on that mail profile to sync them down to your X1
Activesync will only ever look at your "contacts" folder whereas the SE Suite you could pick your contacts folder. so be sure you sync it to your default contacts folder.
If you already have contacts in their you dont want on your phone (like me!) - I created a new outlook profile and performed the sync from there.

Craig
Thanks Craig, so start by connecting W960 to PC then how do I save to Outlook?

Active sync - multiple contacts subfolders

Hi all,
I've tried a search for a solution, but couldn't find it immediately:
I've a lot of contacts divided over subfolders in my Outlook. Apparently activesync does not work with subfolders: huh!?
Is there a new version I can download?
I really need the different maps, I can't work with categories
Regards
Koen
I don't think this is possible. I had the same problem as you.
What I did is to organize my contacts "by category" so instead of using sub folders assigning each contact to a specific category in Outlook. You can then view them in Outlook "by category" and filter in Windows Mobile by category.
I agree that this is a serious problem. With some of my contacts I've gone into Outlook (that I sync with) and placed a zz_ at the front of the "File As:" entry.
Then at least all of these contacts will be at the bottom of my list.
The other thing I've done is created an excel spread sheet (or even an html file) with a list of contacts that I don't want on my main list and copied that file to my phone. Sometimes I open that to find names and then copy and paste it into my phonebook.
Welcome to Activesync! This goes right back to the first Pocket PCs, Microsoft have shown no iterest in adding this functionality.
The only way you can do this is by using different sync software, which maps folders in outlook to categories on your phone. Works well for me.

Hi All
Yes I know this answer is a little late... But it might help others
If you want to Sync MS Outlook's Contact Sub Folders you need - Chapura PocketMirror Professional
I've used it for many years and excellent bit of kit (only used with office 2003)
Just checked online and they have gone 'bust' but I still have the software & in daily use - PM me if req'd

Synching with Outlook Contacts Question

On my pc i have set up the main contacts folder and a subfolder which contains all my mobile numbers [all nicely ordered etc!]
Is there anyway I can make the activesynch see this mobiles-sub_folder to sych with rather than just the main "contacts" folder of email addresses?
I tried importing from SIM and the process is screwed up:
What was "John Smith" home number on my SE (backup to SIM)
imports as "forename" - blank
Surname - smith; John/1"
So I don't think I could even use the re-sorting cab file to re-order them first name/Surname and would have to edit >180 contacts unless I can synch with the Outlook Folder.
Help Appreciated!
I didn't even know you could make additional folders in outlook...
You should merge the contacts, as in so that mobile and e-mail address for the same person are in the same contact - as it's meant to be.
If you want to differenciate, use categories.
If you don't want to / can't merge, or they're simply completely different people, I'd assign let's say a "phone" category to all your phone contacts, a "mobile" category to the mobile ones. Then move all the "mobile" ones into the main folder.
You can always filter by category afterwards, both on outlook and on the phone.
Okay thanks
Reading around, I see that ActiveSync can't synch with sub-folder.
It is rather poor that MS software will not do something with MS software than a 3rd party App [that Ericsson provided] will do.

[Q] exchange sync outlook contacts folders?

Hi,
I wan't to sync more than just one contact folder with my outlook through activesync.
In my outlook I have contacts and 2 more contact folders.
one Is the same level as contacts and the other is it's subfolder.
neither one seems to sync with android excepts original contacts.
when I go to contacts -> menu -> display options -> my outlook account I can only check all contacts to sync.
and under my google account I can check any contacts folder I have on gmail.
I use Froyobread v017 and build-in mail application.
Mail and original contacts folder sync ok.
I couldn't find any settings to enable syncing of other folders in my phone, neither any solution on xda or google.
So any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
Try "My Phone Explorer". I use this for syncing my Outlook-Contacts, but I don't know if it supports multiple folders, cause i only have one. But you could give it a shot.
Just google for it. You can find a client in the market.
Thank you, but I'm not trying to sync with my comp but directly with my company's exchange server.

4.4 Email syncs too much! (Exchange)

In previous version of Android the email app would sync ONLY your contacts from exchange. In 4.4 it also syncs your history or "autocomplete" entries. So now I have like 1200 contacts when previoulsy I had maybe 75. Its incredibly annoying when trying to find someone in the list. I know that I can customize which contacts show but I need my exchange contacts to show and they are lumped in with the other ones so there really isnt an option.
Anyone know of a way to not sync the history entries?
EDIT: I figured out that what it is doing is syncing the "Suggested Contacts" folder. I do want and need this folder when using my actual Outlook but dont want it syncing to my phone

In "Customize" uncheck "Suggested Contacts" folder and you might want to create folders (e.g., friends, family, mistresses) and classify them into each folder and then check the boxes that you want to appear.

As I mentioned in the original post there is no "Suggested Contacts" under customize. The only option for my exchange account is "All Contacts" which includes the Suggested Contacts.
