Hi All,
As requested, find attached weather sources for SPB weather.
There are two scripts below, one basic and one detailed. Instruction on how to use are in the the templates, so just open in notepad to view the 'how to'. I use the basic one, but have a play as you can go down to each states weather centres.
Weather is then sourced from www.weatherzone.com.au.
I take no credit for this script and a big thanks to recrem (from the now closed Mtekk forum) for updating a while back.
Enjoy,
Dev
Thanks for the good work. Good to see an Aussie Weather Source
Thanks again Dev,
Just downloading your weather files now (after trawling through whirlpool all morning looking for your post). I was happy using the one in SPB mobile shell until today... it forecasts 30 for today and it is much closer to 34... all the news channels were saying 34, so obviously they got their data from a more reliable source.
Works great with SPB Traveler, but has anyone made it work with the SPB panel's weather? It seems to take its data from Traveler when Traveler is installed, but if you select a custom city, the panel's weather screen just tells you that "No weather data has been downloaded".

There is no need to create a custom city (unless it's not in the list).
There are full instructions in the template file (open with notepad).
It is working fine for me... apart from a few issues with weather icons not showing up from time to time.

As I said, it works fine in SPB Traveler. Where it doesn't work is with SPB's custom X1 panel. The weather icon on its "Today" screen is just a sun with N/A where the temp should be. Tapping on that icon, which normally shows the next 4 days, has a message along the lines of "The weather data hasn't been downloaded.
I'm assuming it's because those scripts produce temperatures and icons in a slightly different format. Traveler can handle it but the Panel can't. It'd need someone with a bit more script nerdery than me to reformat those scripts to something the Panel's weather routine can read.

Yes, only SPB weather can read the scripts to display the correct icons. So if you don't have SPB weather loaded, its no good as Shell Panel doesn't work with it.

Revised Detailed Script to fix missing codes
Hi all,
It would seems weatherzone.com.au have now stopped displaying the city code number in the URL address as per the instruction in the template.
So I have modified the template so you can now get it to work if you don't know your suburbs code.
Instructions are at the top of the file, so just open with notepad and you'll be off and running.
Enjoy.

You have proved yourself yet again dev.
SPB Weather was giving me the #$%s on the weekend, but I was house hunting and didn't have time to play around with it.
Looks like you've done the job very nicely.
Thanks again
For reasons I can't begin to understand, it would seem the issues with SPB Traveler messing with the SPB Panel's weather are resolved by installing SPB Weather.
If I was being scientific about it, I'd see if it works in isolation without Traveler or if this new version of the script has anything to do with it. But I'm not.
So for now, the combination of Traveler + Weather + current script by TheDeva = correct weather now being displayed in the SPB Mobile Shell Panel. Some weather icons are N/A, but at least the temperature is correct and not 10 degrees out like it used to be. (What are these other websites using as the source of their information??)
Thankyou to 'thedeva' for the modified spb weather script... the programs now works and it gives the same forcasts that we get on ABC weather.. so that accuracy helps alot.
One thing I have noticed is that there is never an icon for the next days weather. e.g. today is tuesday, and there is no icon for wedneday's forcast. Tomorrow after I update, there will be no icon for the next day. I have Ballarat and Melbourne as the cities I watch, but neither will display the next day's icon using this template... when i go back to the default spb scripts all is good, just lousy weather forcasts...
I have looked at the script, but I can't see where the fault lies... any ideas please ?
David
Hi All,
I have read all the templates and comments and cannot get the weather to display correctly. I have mobile shell installed as well as SPB weather. The custom city of melbourne has been added with directions supplied by 'thedeva'. I get the dreaded N/A on the professional Now screen. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Dan.
SPB v1.7 with Melbourne?
Hi guys,
I have SPB 1.7 (which is more lightweight than the current) and am trying to get it to work with the script.
It doesn't say in the script which "City Code Type" to use but I've tried all 3 (user defined, ICAO and GisMeteo.ru) with no luck.
I've set Custom City with "vic/melbourne/melbourne".
I get a "Error downloading data from site". I'm pretty sure I have connectivity as I see the HSPDA connection go and if it's in the crade the sync marks go (and other apps update).
Can anyone assist?
Cheers,
Gavan
I believe SPB Wather older than version 2 are obsolete and don't have any support/sources for them.
Thanks Orlesi - can anyone else also confirm it won't work with v1.7? I've been deliberately running the older version for a smaller simpler lightweight forecaster.

Yep.
The custom template is for 2.0 on only. It's still a little buggy though.
I've come late to this, so hopefully someone is still monitoring it. I installed the script and my forecast now comes from the BOM. The only part I didn't understand when reading through the script is how to get the Mobile Shell widget to display the weather. I simply get N/A. Is this by design and unavoidable, or is it possible to fix it?
More importantly, my current temperature seems to be wrong. It seems to still be getting that part from the 'Default Source', even though I've disabled that. It's 37 degrees here today right now, and Weatherzone agrees. But SPB Weather is showing only 31, which is the temperature the 'Default Source' thinks it is. Also, when I tap the current temperature, it says the 'location' is 'Adelaide Intl', which again is the location of the 'Default Source', not the Weatherzone source. So even though I've set Weatherzone as default, and all the long range forecasts seem to be using it and are correct per the BOM site, the current temperature seems to be sourcing from the standard SPB Weather 'Default Source' still, even though I've said 'Don't use this source' (and under sources, it shows as 'This source is not used'). Is there something I need to change in the script to get it to display the current weather from the weatherzone source?
Sorry if I've missed something obvious.
EDIT: Please forgive me, I realised that I had used the default city in SPB weather, which I think is why I was getting the Default Source data for the current temperature. I set up a custom city and it seems to not be be drawing from the default source now. Except now, there seems to be no current temperature. Well, the field is there, but it's actually only showing the forecasted maximum there, not the actual temperature. When I tap it, all I see are the forecasted maximums, no data for when the reading was taken. I'll keep looking but if anyone has any idea why this is happening, I'd appreciate your input. I see there is something written about exactly this behaviour in the script, but I can't work out if that's just saying 'that's how it is' or whether there is a way to fix it? Sorry for being such a noob!
Over the last few days or so, this weather template seems to have stopped working. I suspect that there have been modifications on the weatherzone.com.au website. If anybody has managed to fix the template, I would much appreciate it

Yep. I have found the same thing. Today is the last date for which data was downloaded and I guess that it was downloaded about 7 days ago. Without a fix I guess I will be forced to use a US source which will in fact render SPB Weather useless.
For the record I found that this one (http://www.pdagold.com/themes/detail.asp?t=16497) still works at least for Melbourne but it doesn't provide detailed weather the way the weatherzone one used to.

Hi
I'm using PocketWeather at the moment, but it gets it's info from msnbc in the states. Some other programs also seem to get their info from US sites as well, e.g. Journal Bar. PocketWeather uses city codes to retrieve weather info and I have the city (or village anyway) code for use on uk.weather.com. Unfortunately, although it is possible to add the city (village) code to the list for PocketWeather it is unable to retrieve weather info 'cos msnbc doesn't recognise the city(village) code.
Is there a good weather program out there where info is retrieved from a UK weather site and where it's possible to identify city(village) codes other than the main recognised cities?
Cheers

Cheers dave, I saw this, but again it is getting info from an international, i.e. USA biased web site. Just looked at weather.com and closest match I can get to my location is Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, which is what PocketWeather can give me. I'd really like to put in my specific village, which is available for forecasts on uk.weather.com.
I use WeatherPanel in Canada... It gets the information from www.theweathernetwork.com
i use ajosoft pocket weather
i think it get it's info from bbc at least thats the url it got typed in

Aha, that's where PocketWeather confuses us. The radar and satellite images appear to come from the BBC website, but the actual weather forecasts come from msnbc as far as I could make out.
The software has been taken over by SBSH Mobile Software (http://www.sbsh.net) who have a forum on PocketWeather and having taken a look at some of the configuration threads there I understood the source of the forecasts was msnbc.com
If you could use the other features of http://www.mobimate.com/ppc/worldmate/index.shtml then you'd have weather forecasts (weather.com > GPRS) included. One of my must-have applications.

The $30 version is restricted to 250 cities worldwide, so I think I'd end up with Newcastle being the closest again. The $70 version looks promising with over 38,000 locations, but I think $70 for a program I'll probably only use for weather is not going to go down well with a certain person - know what I mean
Use pocket weather myself - free and actually lists my cities
I think I might have been fooled into thinking I could get a localised forecast for my village since I can specifically find it on uk.weather.com. However, having looked at uk.weather.com and bbc.co.uk/weather for my local area they both use the same weather station. And that weather station is at Newcastle Airport. So, I don't think it is possible to get a more accurate forecast than that predicted for Newcastle anyway since that is where the weather station is. Not sure how they slightly adjust the forecast for a village, 'cos it is slightly different from the forecast for Newcastle itself, but I think I'll be sticking with PocketWeather as, like dangel said, it's currently free and in my opinion a good weather app.
Thanks everyone for your various suggestions.
Try this!
I've tried several that I like that you might want to take a look at. Despite the little flag next to my name, I live in the UK.
PoceketWeather
Journalbar
PocketWeather is great, I'm using it now having decided that its better than journalbar. PocketWeather is freeware (i think) and it has loads of options. You can even get Satellite and Radar images, but those are best left off the today screen as they're too small - much better viewed in options. I don't have the link handy but it should be pretty easy to track down.
PocketWeather does need a little jiggery-pokery to get the placement to look right on your today screen, let me know if you go with it and I'll tell you my settings.

Yep, already using PocketWeather and have been for a few weeks and I agree with you and will be sticking with it. You're right about the satellite images as well. Don't why the option is there to display on today screen.
Greetings everybody!
This project started as a simple test to write a today screen plug-in. The first version did nothing but show date and time updated every second. It had no options and in my opinion was useless.
Then I found out about the new AKU2 ROM and that there were a lot of people out there who really didn't like the changes made to today screen.
So I decided to continue with the project, and now it has evolved so even the title of the thread isn't very suitable any more. I keep it so people can recognize the thread.
Here's what this plug-in has to offer:
• Show date on today screen in one line, like in older ROMs.
• Show clock on taskbar in today screen (with / with out AM / PM).*
• Show date in taskbar*
• Options to control what appears in today screen: long / short date, time, seconds.
• 4 different alignment options.
• Custom font size for plug-in.
• Shows alarm icon, even on WM2003 devices.
• Option to blink the taskbar clock at user set intervals.*
• Option to turn of selectability.
• Windows Mobile 6 compatible
• Internet time synchronization (manual only)
*The plug-in does not effect system displayed taskbar clock if it exists, instead it puts it's own clock covering some icons. It can do so in today screen and all programs. The covered icons can still be accessed by taping on their location (the clock is 'click transparent')
NOTE: Before updating the plug-in, disable old version and then uninstall it. This will insure new file and settings will take effect. It is also recommended to preform soft reset.
DISCLAIMER: This program comes free but with no warranty, or even a guarantee that it will work. I take no responsibility for any damage that might incur from using this program.
PLEASE NOTE: The download is just below this message, but you must be logged in to see it.
LATEST VERSION: 0.2.1 published on 12/1/2008
One minor bug fix: my leap year calculation was off so the internet time sync was a day back. This is now fixed.

Side note: It seems that the pole was reopened (probably because of forum format change. 33 people voted for "something else" but I have not received a single suggestion. "see post" means that if you vote for "something else" you must add a post with a suggestion - or I'll have to hunt you down for it! (Just kidding - not time as it is).
very nice
I'm about to commission something like this myself (plans from a month back or so - hope you don't mind)... here's one thing I noticed immediately; the font size doesn't respect the system font size. So if your today text is all "smaller" or "small", your item will still display as "normal".

Yeah, I just create the font once in a global var. If someone will be kind enough to point me toward the right registry key, I'll be happy to correct this.
Also I'm pretty sure that clock.exe has a command line parameter that forces it to open on the time tab instead of the last tab accessed (when you launch it from the clock / run menu), I've tried several options but none of them worked. Does any one know what the parameter is?
Hi Levenum,
nice if you could send me the code too.
Thinking to implement some options, that might be usefull.
- Show/hide date
- Show/hide seconds
- Left/right justify
Seems to be the best alternative, for lack of clock in Today screen with new WM5.0 ROMs.
At least until someone cames with a proper hack!

I think this good and can be further enhanced.
1. Clock to be sensitive to the h:mm:ss tt setting so we can alter the format and option to turn seconds on/off
2. Date format to be sensitive too to the format set
3. I think I would prefer the time to be right justified as this would appear neater.
I think this project could be a real goer as many have complained with the new wm5 roms and two lines date and time take.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks levenum

Hello everybody!
I am actually a bit overwhelmed by the warm response and the amount of downloads in such a short period of time.
Since I don't have access to a WM 5 device with the current ROMs you mentioned here I had no idea there was a problem with the date on today screen.
Regarding adding the formatting options: I thought of that, but unfortunately I have next to no time to devote to this project (I didn't actually expect it to become a project) so since I need to do a search for the registry keys (or maybe there are API functions) that contain the date and time format I am not likely to incorporate them any time soon. Of course if someone wants to help by posting the relevant info or link to it, that might speed things alone.
If anyone out there wants to just take my code and add the options them selves like Conchas you are welcome to post the results right here.
Also, the code requests keep coming in. I didn't post the project here because I thought it will be a waste of disk space (it's just a basic outline for a plug-in) but if the requests keep coming I will post it here rather then sending it every time.
P.S.:
I found this forum very helpful, and am glad to give a little something back to the community, although I am sure a monetary donation would have been more appreciated by the site administration.
I want the code also.Thanks a lot
Hey good jb, I have downloaded, but not installed.
I suggested to SPB to get a hurry up with their WM5 release of SPB Time, and have heard that it has gone into Beta, probably for this reason.
will have a look and provide feedback. Without looking, some good features that people have indicated a need for in clock feature on other forums are:
1. Alarm clock system that works
2. Floating screen saver for clock
3. Stop watch and lap counters
PS I am sure donations will flow with a commitment to add in and make your own features enhanced.
When I looked, there was 66 downloads. If we offered say $10 (AUS) or similar for a full featured application, you would have had $660, and its ony just been posted. by the end of next week, it will have been downloaded thousands of times.
xdaIIse: I am posting the code a the head of the thread.
simon_darley: You misunderstood me: I am not asking for donations to my self. What I meant was that this site could use a donation more than my plug-in posted. It was just a little joke.
As for SPB, I saw some of their plug-ins, and there's not much chance I will be able to compete with them though I decided to add some options soon.
I was only dropping a hint that you could make money out of it, and gain further development experience at a profit... ,)
I just downloaded -- will be great as a quick intro to writing today plugins -- thanks!
I'm also really interested, because I'd like to have a single-line Day, Date, Time option for my Today screen -- but NOT the 2-line silliness that WM5 makes you use -- that just takes up too much space!
I have the date and time on my task/title bar with Wisbar, but there's no room up there for it to say "Saturday" (or any other day for that matter!). So I've been pondering a nice slim Today add-in that can format the day, date, time exactly as I'd like. I'd also like to experiment with options to make it skinnable, transparent, obey/ignore the system fonts, date formats, etc.
Thanks...I'll take a look at this soon...
Hey, could some one post here or pm me a screen shot of the problematic date plug-in. All this talk got me curios. I worked with WM 5 devices but they had a standard date display like WM 2003.

Thanks Ze!
It looks to me like MS is heading towards making PPCs look like regular cell phones with this new OS. First there were the soft keys that took the place of the menu/toolbar. (I didn't understand the design until I saw a phone edition device that had hardware equivalents) now it’s the little white battery meter.
What's next?
Full screen incoming call notification…
Problem is, unless you use a full taskbar skinner like Wisbar, you don't have much control over the fact that the day/date displays as two lines (I think changing the global date formats might have an effect but I'm not positive - and that SHOULDN'T be the only way to affect this display!).
Take a look at this clock plugin: TodayTime
Perhaps it does what you want. Dunno about the spanish though...
Cheers

Got the same issue - also mine doesnt update when docked either!!
My theory is if you're using a custom template then is wont auto update. All we need to do is test to see if the (built in) GisMeteo template updates when docked then we'll know.
Matt
I think it's the template; have the same problem since instaling a wetter.com template that morning!
The reason I changed the source is because I trust weather.com much more than gismeteo.ru (never heard of them). Practically speaking, gismeteo forecast was WAAAAYYY off when I was in Chicago a month ago. I will look for another weather.com template. Accuweather.com is also a good source - a lot of TV stations use them as source in the US. Anybody knows where to find templates for those sources?
Install the latest version of SPB Weather. That fixed the issue for me.
Have the latest version installed (1.6.2 build 729), no auto synch (not even once a day instead of configuration).
Maybe here's a solution (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/weather/support_articles28.html?de#). I'm just testing it.
Maybe we can create our own template by mixing up the spb template with others presupposed the spb template works
Sorry for double post but
it W O R K S !!!
btw.: Here's the template I used, I modified it a little and now it semms to work, too (I hope  )
[...but after a while suddenly all weather dates disappear :?:] solved after softreset :!:
I updated from 1.6.2 build 728 to build 729. Now it updates automatically while docked, but not when it's not connected to the PC.
SPB weather does not update automatically for me at all, even though I have it set to update every hour.
You need a Data Connection maybe?
SPB Weather doesn't automatically establish a Data Connection.

You can't just use one particular tab of TF3D. It's all or nothing...
Sounds like you prefer something free, so have a check here for some options.
Otherwise, the weather apps from Elecont and SPB are pretty good. Or if you use SPB Mobile Shell, a weather widget is included.

If you are saying that the Accuweather web site does not have a city closer than 100 miles, then yes I think you are out of luck. You are limited to whatever data Accuweather provides. You might try RadarWeather. It is complicated to install, but it might use a different data feed.
Hey guys! Out in the Leo thread is the perfect weather widget that we have. The only problem is that its a HUGE data hog!!
The original developer might have abandoned the project, and us users are left trying to make it right.
The problem is that the weather update script is called based on conditions no one really knows. I have personally seen that data is accessed on anyof the following conditions:
The weather widget is pressed manually
The device wakes up from sleeping
Some other program accesses the internet
Would someone mind taking a look at the app, and tell us what to change? It would be great to use this and not get hammered by T-Mobile for overages!
A very small and efficient "wheather" MortScript solution you'll find here, only data feeded by RSS is used:
