hey there,
i was looking for a software which illuminates the phone when I slide up the keyboard. and if possible, is there any way to keep the keyboard AND the PAd Illuminated while I'm typing????
i've been reading the last 21pages of the forum but no results....
(very funny to write a new topic with the xperia)
Try "advanced config"
I'm not sure, but I think it has an option to set the keyboard's backlight timeout
EDIT:
CONFIRMED
Advanced config -> Input -> "keyboard backlight timeout"
Set to 10 sec default
Change to your desired value up to 10 min
Hope this helps
Thank you for your help but I could not find the option you talked about. I have the french version SFR of the xperia but after i searches every option in the settings I found nothing about the keyboard.
my problem is when the phone is not active(i.e. screen black)i want to activate by opening the keyboard but it has no effect.
you have an idea????
you do know that advace config is an application right.. search the forum to find it..

I installed advanced config 3.3 and the option he's looking for isn't there.
I'm looking for something to make the keyboard backlight to be switched on at all times when the keyboard is out. Still searching the forums...
the keyboard light will come on only when you are in a dark room - one thing you could do to keep the keyboard light on all the time is to cover the LDR with some dark tape or something

I doesn't help. The problem is keeping the keyboard backlight on as long as the keyboard is out.
btw. I know the difference between LDR and camera.

somewhere there must be somewhere that says "turn backlight off when key not pressed for how ever long" and then u can increase that number b- maybe a regedit ?
no idea where tho
Re-checked:
Installed advanced congif 3.3
Input -> Keyboard backlight timeout
It's there
And....
Does anyone here know how to keep the keyboard NOT lit up ?
(Keeping it dark ALL the time)
I hate how the light of the keys blends in with the silver keys...

Yes, that setting is there, unfortunately it doesn't do what I want it to do.
I want to have the keyboard backlight on as long as the keyboard is out. Or at least light up when I tap a typing area on the display, you know where the software keyboard normally pops up.

Is there a registry hack or something that will change the level of light that the keyboard backlight comes on? I find it doesnt come on soon enough.
Don't know of a reg mod to change the light sensor sensitivity but you can turn it off and have the backlight activate every time you use the keyboard.
Settings | System | Buttons - Backlight
Ive noticed this, in a almost pitch room the light dosent come on, cover the sensor and it illuminates, then is rooms where i would say its not required, it turns on,
ive now used a black fine marker to colour in the top of the sensor, its alot better now.
Thats a great idea, just off to find a marker pen - cheers for that!

I don't know if you guys saw how the Blackberry Storm when you click the keyboard it makes clicking sounds to enable the fact that you clicked each button. I was wondering if something like this is available for our diamond. Never really considered this as a option but after I saw it in use its actually pretty cool.
Thanks

Hehe thanks should have kown better been using win mobile for like 3 years. Oooh well thanks.
Except that enabling the screen tap sound is universal for anytime the screen is touched, which is horribly annoying when panning and scrolling. I would love to see an option where the SIPs (including the dialpad) are modified to click (and preferably vibrate) whenever a soft key is pressed, but not for anything else.

Exactly.
Universal clicking is so annoying and useless.
I second this request!
Hi Keyboard always had typing sounds, and I've gotten used to it.
That's the only thing missing from the great HTC keyboards...
Haptic feedback...
Someone here at XDA is already working on something like this. It's in its very early stages, but sounds like it may be what you're looking for.
Take a look here.
Hope this helps.

Looking for audible clicking, not vibration. The same result as "enable screen taps" but with the application control of this guy's vibrate program. That would be ideal.
Some 3rd party keyboards have an option to turn on clicking sounds.
TouchPal definitely does and it's also the best keyboard I've used.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm in love with the tiny, stylus-necessary "keyboard" layout on my Diamond.
Surely there is a simple reg hack for this?

TouchPal has 3 layouts including full qwerty and it works better than the HTC one, smarter T9, etc.
Otherwise, I'm sure it would be very easy to modify the vibrate software mentioned above so that it makes noise. Worth asking for help from the author.
Hi All,
Xperia's hardware keyboard is very good, and the backlight is really of help when the ambient goes dark or even darker.
The HW keyboard is also quite cool in the daylight, the buttons' surface letters are very clear and crisp.
But here we have, an especial feature: needless automatic backlight, in spite of bright (or not so) day light? The letters become blurry not to say hardly visible. Not to mention this is wasting battery, too.
Is there a way to turn off the HW keyboard backlight, when it's not needed?
XDA gurus, help our batteries live longer and us users type faster! Please...
I hear you!
Yeah i've noticed the same problem, so ive started making a program to set the brightness etc, ive interrogated the registry for the backlight and have a small app working now whare all the brighness levels and timmings etc can be modified.
I was going to add a menu on the progam to changes the settings based on time of day / profile used on the phone, the rogram would need to be ran in the backgroud all the time but im sure it would not drain the battery much to do this as its a lightweight process that will wait for the profile to change.
I can put up what ive done, its very simple and you can suggest improvments / whatever.
Main functions would be:
allow user to change settings based on their currently selected sound profile (on, vibrate, off) and they have individual settings.
Allow the user to change all backlight related values (I have 11 of them editable in my program currently.
I would like this to have the keyboard light off during the day really as the keyboard light coming on makes it hard to see keys during the day.

Sounds promising! Can you post your app? I would like to try it out.
Here you go...
It just modifies timers and sensors on/off at the minute, but its a start. I made it to give better control over the backlight for myself, happy to help others!
Thanks Andrew! Longlive Ireland!

So Features
What do you want it to do?
look better? YES , lol!
i was going to use tab screen to seperate out the info, there are some more values to add that can be changed, i need to group them together (eg ac and battery ones) and have a proper explanation on them (input value limit etc.)
So let me know what are the features you would like (in order of priority) and i will get cracking, lets see if we can make a good little app here.
By now I only wanted the app to turn off keyboard completely. Hope the author will succeed in that. Though I'm afraid the HW keyboard backlight settings are hardware related issue solely, nothing to do with registry/driver routine.
All the other settings are quite handy to play with the backlight of the device. Perhaps a bit more detailed instructions and explanations will be just fine.
Yet the 'About' and 'Copyright' options, maybe some easter eggs - without it the prog is a no-go
Have you tried adding the key HKCU\Software\SonyEricsson\Illumination\QWERTYBrightness ? I found this one when digging into the illumination application.
This will override the automatic brightness values for the keyboard, setting it to a fixed brightness when the light sensor turns it on.
I've set mine to 50, which works fine even if the light goes on at daylight.
Thanks bro, this is very useful hint!
I noticed also, that with '50' (it's not 'key' actually, but a 'value', I input this as a REG_SZ value), light sensor works with HW keyboard much better, more adequate - no backlight when in sunlight or electric lamps at home or in office, slightly dimmer backlight when in the dark. That must save battery life too!

Hey does anyone knows how i can tweak my touch pro 2 screen to make it more sensitive? thanks
i don't think you can, it has probably something to do with the hardware.
Have a look at Advanced Configuration Tool -- it has settings under HTC TouchFLO for Finger Pressure and Pressure Threshold -- don't know if this will make any difference, but it sounds good.
i think aligning the screen from the settings menu does that
tried the advance thing no good man i want my screen to be more responsive and sensitive
there is a registry key that you can change to do this that works, i cant remember from memory, Try searching

I see on your sig you are using photon ROM, have a look on tools-tweaks and open WVGA tweak, scroll down and you´ll see a section to adjust sensibility.
Hope it helps,

"Advised" means just that, that its the default normal advised setting.
Just make it a little more sensitive a setting and try it out
Hello , I would like to turn off my Mini`s proximity sensor and light sensor , but I couldn`t find out any setting even in the registry editor .
anybody could teach me ?
thank you
I don't know about the Proximity Sensor.. But you can Turn OFF Ambient Light sensor.. In Sence, go to Settings tab->Sound & Display.. Here in Bottom you will get Backlight setting, tap on it.. Then you will see the first Option "Automatically adjust Backlight".. Just uncheck it.. Your Light sensor will be disabled..
I don't know if there any other way..
This didn't work, It merely turns off the backlight adjuster for when you haven;t used your phone in x minutes.
I am currently looking through the registry on the HDMini to try and find the entry...
Has anyone managed to find the registry entry already?
Cheers

Managed to find the HVGA port for CHT and installed, still can't seem to find the option to turn off the ambient light sensor. I think it's back to searching through the registry.

sure.long press on screen, add free link, toggle switch.there u will find proximity sensor and proximity relight.
Thanks
I tried both of these, and after adding and turning on the options the phone went crazy and the screen kept activating and de-activating. I managed to turn off the options. But still, during a call the screen de-activates so I can't hang up.
I've gone back to checking the registry and have found a couple of entries which could be useful. I'm testing changing a few now. Will post the results...
You could try to use Lumos, its a nice tool to tune light sensor for oneself.

Hello everyone, I'm going crazy for even I disable this proximity sensor, and someone managed?
Me too... I have a broken proximity sensor... I can't hang up... When I make a call the display goes black and never return to light... Is there a way to kill it forever???
Look at this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488991
This is an app, that disables light sensor during calls and also use g-sensor. I have also the problem with proximity sensor (can't hang up after dial), but this app helps me to hang up. After dialing your screen turn off but if you turn your phone to landscape position the screen will turn on again.
It is solution for me.

nice app, thanks! But the feature that the screen turns on in landscape mode does not work on my mini. Do I have to change any setting for that? Also, it says it is possible to have the screen always on. Also that does not work.
similar issue in HTC Aria?
maybe this link for the Aria helps? At least it helped me, I forgot to put back a little rubber cover on the sensor:
