Hi,
Are there noticable speed improvements when comparing a HTC Touch HD with the initial stock ROM (I think it is 1.14) and the latest cooked ROMs like the one from Dutty or Laurentius, etc?
I am asking because we tested today the phone of a colleague with TomTom 7.450 and iGo 8.0 and not updated ROM 1.14 but with SD Card tune, AGPS disabled etc. and both navigation systems were quite slow, quite a big GPS lag, there were also freeze problems (my colleague says the htc freeze fix was installed, but as he was not sure he tried again and it says incorrect version now). In fact when I compared the navigation system/GPS performance with my old HTC Magician with external bluetooth GPSSlim236 with TomTom 6, the difference was so much in advantage of my old phone ... I cannot rely on the the HTC TOuch HD to reach a destination ...
I wanted to buy the HTC Touch HD so much, but now if the device/GPS is so laggy I guess I must wait for another 1 year, until the HTC Tegra phones come out ...

Hi all,
For those who have the experiences/luxury to tried on
both Herald and Hermes, can you pls share your experience
between the two ?
I am had a hard time deciding which to get.
Hermes is selling at much lower price than Herald over here.
Herald does not seem to be picking up here.
Also O2 Zinc in also about to be avaliable in matters of weeks.
I get the general feedback that Herald is much more
responsive than Hermes despite slower speed processors -
a big factor of consideration for me.
Specifications for both devices is OK for my usage/applications.
What I need is actual user feedback in comparision of the
2 devices such as
- actual battery life performance?
- skype performance?
- device stability ... etc ?
- third party devices accessories - e.g. dual sim card add on....etc ?
Thanks in advance.
I was in the same predicament, it came down to the fact that because i have a crappy data plan i would have no use for 3G, so I went for the much smaller and better looking (IMHO) herald. Very happy with it.
does the Herad has the same freeze issues ?
This would be really important for me since 2 resets a day with my TyTN/Hermes is just too much...
I have to restart it once every 3 days or so, using the Herald very very often !
But this always depends a lot on which Software you have currently installed on your device !
I would assume this would change with XV6800(verzion version of the Herald with rev a 3G) since it has 256 of memory and aku 3.5?
Get my Herald today
Hey,
I get my Herald today. Since today I used an TYTN.
First: Herald impressed me with they good performance and better looking.
Tomorrow I start to test it with all my programm from TYTN.
The TYTN has at the end problems with freezing.
I give you update
Oliver
what is the update?
Top Herald
Hello,
after 6 days using the Herald and play a lot of programmes on my Herald i can, say: Herald ist top, no freezing, good performance and it feels good.
I use it with an alucase and this ist the very much better with the TYTN. No problems to switch on camera, Com Manager....... The buttons on Herald are well placed (better than the TYTN). The Keyboard is better than the TYTN (no uncontrolled outcoming).
+ Better Keyboard
+ No freezes
+ Good inital Quality
- Performance a little bit slower than TYTN (but its OK)
If need to buy an HTC, at the moment I would buy an Herald (But I think after Herald generation there will come an Herald with 3G and a better CPU like the Samsung with AKU 3.X, thats my next HTC "Herald")
Oliver
Thx
Thanks for the update. Funny enough I mananged to get my Hermes running without any freezes: I am quite sure it is the SD card reading that can cause some lock-ups. So I maanged to get just every frequently used app on my internal memory. And the eMails & attachements as weel. I managed to use my hermes since 96 hours without freeze now.
Well, the Heradl seems quite nice - I will probalby get it as a second device and test it thoroughly.

using garmin, i notice the speed indicator lags quite a bit..
for example, the car has stopped but garmin is still like 20km/hr,
12km/hr
7km/hr
0km/hr
can i make the gps more precise?
It's Garmin... GPS position can not be obtained in total precision, it jumps around 5-10 meters every second when signal is sampled, software is trying to integrate that in average position.
ah i see.. i thought that HD gps chip is low grade or something lol or because of the 4800baud thingy
CoPilot 7 info
I am using CoPilot 7 with excellent results.
I got it in original form and have just had a free update to HD 800x600 resolution.
I installed on my own 8G card.
I don't see any appreciable lag, the only times it can catch me out is on "roundabouts" (traffic circles) where of course my direction is continually changing, however this only means a fractional time lag as the HD almost follows the car exactly, anyhow you "see" the road layout in 3D so you can work out where you are supposed to be easily.
I was previously a TomTom "accolyte" but they were uncooperative when I got the HD (wouldnt say if it would run on HD, wouldnt help me install on a larger card etc) so swopped to CoPilot and have been pleased with thier customer support and communication.
p.s. I'm UK based using the Touch HD in stock ROM from Orange. And am an Aerospace/Automotive Research Test lab manager.

Well I'm kind of new to the wm scene, I recently bought a htc dual, but i found that is lags to much it's fairly slow compared to my T-mobile dash which I had also updated to wm 6.1. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to increase the phones speed.
This is Windows Mobile so it must work slowly. This is not other phone without operating system
I know that, I had the dash before the dual, what I'm asking for is software that is a little more reliable than the original software for the dual, because of the simple fact that it lags more that 6.1 kavana which I used on the dash.
I meant then
If you've still got the stock ROM on it may be an idea to have a look at one fo the custom ROMs in the Nike Upgrading forum. Depends if you want to stick with WM6.1 or go with WM6.5 (don't forget it's all beta though).
Some cooks do lite ROMs with a lot of the apps ripped out so see if there is something that matches your requirements.
Hello there,
well, before a week I have just purchased a HTC TOUCH HD UK from expansys
as my experience with first touch HD ELF which is stolen in bus of our university
I have upgraded the rom to windows 6.5 (ENERGY ROM LAST VER ) , but it become slower and hot when I run Android Via HaRet ??
:'(
HELP HELP HELP
Also is there any way ( no problem in 3 months or four ) to Format fully the ROM and install Android as main in it
thanks so much
and also I want best software navigation , which has middle east maps and does not become my HD Hot
thanks again
best regards,
ms4cah
You could try with an extralight ROM: if you run Android via HaRet the HD is working because runs a program (Android) all the time (so CPU works and makes HD hot).
To now there isn't possibility to flash HD with Android.
TomTom or iGo8 but HD become hot because CPU and GPS run...
D'rath
Currently no way to flash Android onto rom. Only available as a programme on top of a rom. As already advised your best option may be an ultra light rom which should improve speed for you
I got a Touch Cruise (and a Mio550) and anyone working with WM5 or WM6.1 can feel my pain using those interfaces. Both upgrade to WM6.5
But why one would ever wanna meddle with the new HD Mini. What is it to win by doing that?
Edit: Im looking for a functional VLC-like player for Divx on HD Mini (my brother's phone). The Coreplayer will not work for me. As soon as i "load" a movie the whole OS gets in a loopback and nothing really works afterwards. Any suggestions?

keep using Coreplayer. only set the Video to GDI...
Coreplayer works fine.
about why changing... I've a Polaris (Touch Cruise) too... and it works fine with rom upgraded to W6.5 and if you are using the Cruise fills your need you don't have too change. but for me, the speed and fonctionality of the phone is important and Cruise is laking in power and ram with W6.5 for me! That's why I changed me phone to have a HD2 on mini size and I'm very happy with it...
I cant argue that HD Mini>Touch cruise, but what im saying is, why would an HD Mini owner load a kitchen ROM on his device? What would be the reasons (not counting Android or WM7)

The same reason you upgrade Touch Cruise to WM6.5!!! to keep it up to date and having the latest advancement on WM... that's all....
ad for having Android as the WM capable devices can handle Android, it's nice to have 2 OS on one device! (imagin having on yor PC a windows and a Linux OS!)
Well ok but the Touch Cruise is loaded with the oldish and cumbersome WM6.1 and the upgrade to 6.5 is a must.
Whle the HD Mini already comes with 6.5 preinstalled so what else would load a kitchen rom for. Maybe for newer Radio roms for better Wifi coverage and battery life?
As a matter of fact my bro's officially upgraded HD Mini through HTC site doesnt have as good WiFi as the one i manually loaded on my Touch Cruise. Its considerably less strong compared to mine (1.65.XX)

radio fonctionality depends also to the mobile services. for example my Cruise works better with radio 1.59.44.02 but cooking roms let the user have the best choice
