Why i Prefer the iphone browser to the Diamonds..... - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

why is it that on opera when i clik on something, it takes about 5 seconds for it to show ive clickd on it?
it leads to me double tapping the screen which is irritating because it zooms out...
anyway to fix this?
also when other people are using my diamond opera browser, and they clik on something, and because it doesnt start loading the page immediately but after 5 sconds, they seem to think the phone is rubbish...

i understand what you mean but i noticed what causes this.. This happens when you click on a link but the current screen hasnt finished loading yet...
try it..click on X to stop the loading and then click on a link..it should load immediately

Yay, another ipony-related thread!
Opera mobile is awful - it can't do flash properly, can't manage text input properly, crashes on big pages, has terrible SIP-related problems, can't select items without zooming, has auto-rotation troubles and is generally a pain in the ass.
It's also the nearest thing we have to a proper desktop-like browser. Luckily it's also possible to paste text into the browser, unlike on the ipony.

you should give skyfire a shot. it blows the iphone browser away in my opinion. you can't play flash, youtube, etc. within the browser on the iphone like you can using skyfire.

Opera...
I happen to rather like Opera... sure, some of the issues mentioned above are a pain, but it's still the best browser for Windows Mobile (in my opinion, anyway). Why people keep ranting on about the iThingy in this forum I'll never know. Buy one if you like it better than the Diamond and leave us WM lovers alone

I don't know about blowing things out of the water but Skyfire is a smaller APP that does the Job with simplicity at heart. It allows you to login in as it creates a profile so that if you switch devices or flash new Roms, you don't have to start all over regarding favorites. All you do is just login when it starts up. I'm sure Opera lovers have a way of saving favorites but I just find it a bit clunky.
Just my thoughts. Those who haven't tried it shouldn't even discuss how Opera is better.

Skyfire is better

well skyfire is reay fast and flash is no proble at all but in skyfire i get muggy picture i cant see clear letters?

skyfire
Skyfire could be nice however stated on thier own website:
- Skyfire will not run on Windows Mobile PDAs. Skyfire runs on phones only.
- Skyfire will not run on WVGA Windows Mobile phones.
so I wonder how someone can test it on a TD.

Valid points going both ways. Just wanted to add that some of the slowness in Opera Mobile is also due to crappy MSM chipset.
Opera Mobile is literally 4x faster and more responsive on a Samsung Omnia.

wrong, and wrong. TD is not wvga it is vga. Skyfire DOES run on PDA's with vga resolution (i.e. TD). Look here (runs on wm 5 & 6 with or without touchscreen and symbian):

Of course it is 4x faster on Omnia.
That is because Omnia screen resolution is almost 4x smaller than Diamond:
Diamond=VGA (480x640)
Omnia=QVGA (240x400)
Ever tried to compare to fit to screen the same page on both phones? On the Omnia you only can see a chunk of blurred strokes. On diamond you can see they are letters
Seriously, Diamond needs to process almost 4x graphics than Omnia.

The Iris Browser is coming along nicely too

Phail. Wrong. Did you even read it? It said about Skyfire. I dont see ANYTHING about it saying that a TD is wvga, only about Skyfire's limitations. So you phail even though you are correct in saying that it does run on phones with vga resolution. "Skyfire DOES NOT run on PDA's. Only PHONES that are PDA's." That statement is there because Skyfire used phone numbers to activate it during beta, no you really have no need for that and they should remove that. I don't know if it will work on PDA's. You can test it and report back.

Wow. Phail. :| You guys need to read more please. First off, the Omnia's resolution is NOT qvga, it is WQVGA. Second off, QVGA resolution is 240x320 so you phail at saying that qvga = 240x400 when it's really 240x320. And lastly, The opera browser is resolution specific. The Diamond has a vga resolution opera browser, while a kaiser has a qvga resolution opera browser and the omnia has a WQVGA resolution specific opera browser. It has nothing to do with the screen resolution, but it has EVERYTHING to do with the processor as ChainFire stated. Please pay attention.
P.S There is no almost 4x smaller. QVGA is EXACTLY 4x smaller than VGA.

Chill pill: Everyone should take one.

Emulation of iPhone Browser? Why not?

This question always crossed my mind, how come nobody has emulated the iPhone web browser? I've tried IE, Opera, and the mobile Firefox but they're all junk compared to the mobile Safari - mainly because of the finger movements that make it super easy to navigate. This is really the only advantage other than GUI "swiftness" the iPhone has.
Please discuss, and if your response is "why dunt u buy an itele lolz", you totally missed the point.
you have to try picsel browser, some ppl say its better than safari,
and about opera, if you tried opera mobile you have the wrong version because opera mini is the one you want to have. It is not very finger friendly but it is very fast and also very good to use with d-pad
cheers
well i only use opera mobile mini is not really my cop of tea

Yes it does, nice demo.
Thanks, SkyFire looks very nice! I'm using Opera atm because it's the only half-decent browser I've found - however the zoom features suck because it can't render text correctly and you can't browse as swiftly compared to Safari. However SkyFire is very interesting, I'll be looking into this further.
Cheers
Saw in the Hermes thread that the WM6.1 PIE has an option that allows you to view the entire webpage then tap to zoom in on a certain portion of it. Sound familiar?
Wonder whatever happened to M$ deepfish browser? I wasn't one of the lucky ones who got on the beta test list. And I don't see anything new posted on the project website.
Is there any way to fool PIE into telling a site that it is an iPhone??
I know it's possible to get PIE to broadcast that it is a desktop, so why not an iPhone??

Yes, it is proxy-based . However, it is the best browser Ive seen for a mobile device to-date. They have a video on YouTube & it looks very promising. Definitely better than Safari because it not only supports AJAX, but full FLASH 8 & 9 as well. If you access ESPN.com, you can actually see the video's of the highlights to the right of the page just like you would on a regular desktop.

Well... Opera Mobile 9.5 will be released in a week or so. It's much better than Safari
Pisel would be just as good as safari - correction, better - if it supported flash. My only two gripes with picsel is the inability to view flash, and not being able to set it as my default browser. Its fast, the nearly-limitless zooming beats the pants off of anything available now or in near future. If I'm not planning to edit them, i open my text files with it too.
Before we get Opera 9.5, the top two browsers in terms of speed are Netfront 3.5 followed by Opera Mini 4.
Netfront is way better than Picsel browser. Picsel is slooooww. It also have memory full problem, on top of other bugs.
I hve done some bencemark between all these browser in the Athena forum, if you're interested.
i been playing around with netfront... and im very impressed... its prob the fastest browser per load time... and its browsing is very nice allowing finger movements... also double tap on screen to zoom out of the page
which in turn opens up a window and allows u to use a nav box to scroll along the bigger portions of the page... i highly recommend for people to try it out ....
Edit: Netfront also has full ajax2.0 support

what you guys this is the best web browser for HTC Touch?
I think the Picsel Browser is very good.
Pls. tell us your best browser.

I think opera mini right now but I think skynet or opera mobile 9 soon will be in the coming months. Both promising full browsing and skynet will be free

Yeah, no Skynet browser please. We turn over control of our web browsing to them and before you know it they'll be self aware and launching our nukes against us. Judgment day. Then they'll activate Arnold to come back in time and kill you, because you are the future leader of mankind.
Ahhh, which browser
I actually like all of them IE, Opera, NetFront...
I have found that depending on the particular website, one will work better than the other. IE works just fine for a lot of websites and has the best compatibility. Opera is great for certain websites that IE just can't display properly. NetFront works best on (poorly written) websites that have too many damn frames and cutsie html features that only impress the person who made the website. The beauty is you can install and use more than one browser to make sure you get into the websites you need. (iPhone can't do that...) I, btw, need to link into my work with Citrix and the Touch is the only phone I know that can do it. I am the envy of my colleagues at work!

Nice if it's that fast! Because the Mobile Opera Browser v.8.65 is very slow... even on my X51v...
Then I made a simple test, as they did, to load The Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk) using Opera 8.65 took exactly 55 seconds, and it was useless, because all the page was truncated, pictures at low res and very expanded, breaking news doesn´t work...
After I used Pocket Internet Explorer from WM6 (Football A03RTM+SP1), Options: High resolution, Show Images, Desktop. Had the same time 55 seconds, but it was readable (a little messed, but fine), pictures clear and beautiful, size ok. Breaking News at the corner of page, not usable really.
Finally, Picsel Browser took 32 sec to load, the page looks almost exactly that on desktop computer, but no video or "breaking news", the end of the page was single column, plus there is a nice "smart scrolling" feature and a fast and reliable zoom.

skyfire..is bullsh**..i was hoping to test something new..but now..im thinking bout Opera 9.5 btw..Flash 3 but is it the same as FLash 9?? please explain..some1..if possible
this looks great, i cant wait for it. i like what theyve done with the zooming, but i would prefer there was more than 2 zooming options. i would prefer what htc album does, for example if you double tap faster it zooms in more and if you double tap slower it zooms in not as much.
Very intresting, it looks to address all the things that were missing from the last verison that i hoped they would fix like free scrolling and zoom which is awsome, cant wait!
Adobe has no plan to make FL3 availabel for window mobile although it was once touted as a multiplatform thing. See here:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforu...readid=1320006
Unfortunately the TCPMP + FlashBundle solution only works in IE and not Opera.
Edit:
Unfortunately the link has been removed from the Adobe website.
Anyway, even without FL3, the much improved rendering speed, widget, and user interface are already serious improvements for me to look forward to.
Check out skyfires flash.

Skyfire browser

Hello,
just today I tried Skyfire browser for the first time.
Especially interested in flash support...
I didn't see any topics lately regarding this app so I created a new thread.
OK, so it supports flash...
But my question is - does it look so bad-quality on your X1's?
Like a bad graphics/quite pixaleted?
'Cos it doesn't match the OperaMini neither OperaMobile 9.5 graphic quality...
Please let me know!
Yes, rendering in this browser is a flaw. But nice browser anyway. Now I'm waiting for Opera 9.7. That one will kick Skyfire but until then it is the best browser. (Cannot use Mach5...)

Thanks! Actually this rendering is just disgusting.
Also, it doesn't seem having the picture download ability?
I could download all the pictures I wanted. I just went to google and used google images and downloaded them there. It downloads all the stuff in your "my files" folder. I like that function.
Maybe you want to try Mach5. Currently this is a free beta with some more media abilities. I cannot use this mach5, don't ask me why.

Thx... Apparently scaled pictures are the last thing I need.
Currently OperaMini scales them when saving what is SH..T when you use an advenced device.
Anyway too many browsers. Seems I'll stick with Opera,
looks like they're still the best. The quality of it just kills probably any other solutions.
Skyfire is fast but looks very bad on X1. I suppose Mach5 is not thaaaat better.
All of the concern here is caused just by one thing - using my FlashLite 3.1 plugin is very buggy on my stock Opera 9.5, it's the thing which crashes.
The rest of this browser is just outstanding.

Well I generally use OMini which is marvellous in most cases,
plus OMobile 9.5 for flash and on WiFi...
try mach 5 browser. it's hella sweet.
In my oppinion Skyfire is the worst of all browsers. The rendering quality is optimized for ugly low end devices and the advantage of the X1 with its WVGA screen to be able to read pages without zooming in is totally lost.
Opera disappoints me as well. Rendering quality is perfect, but I often can't click links without zooming in first or i have to click a million times till it works. The Soft-Keyboard pops up all the time what makes no sense at all in landscape mode with a hardware keyboard.
At the moment I'm using Netfront. No problem clicking Links, same rendering quality as Opera, no soft-keyboard popping up and it starts 5x faster than Opera.

I will download it as soon as I get home. It is indeed the final version, they have a press release about it.
Anybody here that could already tell me if it supports:
landscape
multi-touch
flash (what version, I amuse it is not 10.1, and does it finally work well?)
landscape - yes
multitouch - no (I am not sure if it's needed anymore, touch recognition seems to be working MUCH better, hence two levels of zoom should be enough)
flash - YES, dunno what version though... youtube works w/o any probs, so do flash ads, so I guess it's ok for a mobile device )

Ok, sounds good. Might be the first time I replace my default browser
I really like it having used the betas but really missing multi-touch tbh. I've gone back to 9.7 for the moment.
So you can try this new opera next to the stock opera without problems?
I adopted Opera 10 beta after I "got used to it". I loved pinch-to-zoom in 9.7 and was convinced that I'd never get into 10 because of that, but I love the zoom-in and zoom-out that Opera 10 does. I do, however, HATE the way that they've solved the text reflow issue by having a setting for the zoom ratio, and just flowing blocks of text to that size. It's a pretty lame way to get round a genuine issue. Anyway, I'm still gonna big-up Opera 10 because it's just fast and smooth, especially when you change the user agent so that you stop getting annoying mobile sites.
Opera 10 FTW
What I don't like about it, though, is the display of pictures. Opera Mini shows things as they should be - doesn't zoom in as much. Now it could just be the settings it's used as default but Opera Mini seems to run quicker IMO

Go into Opera and set the address to opera:config to open the preferences editor. Scroll down to "User Agent", open it up and change the value to 2. Then click save and restart Opera.
I'm not gonna guarantee that 100% of sites will now be desktop versions, but all the ones I've seen so far have been, that were previously dummed-down mobile versions. (iGoogle in particular!)
Lol - sod's law! I just found one that still renders as a mobile site. Grrrrr!

With other browsers I'd tend to agree, but with this version of Opera I have to disagree. I know I *****ed about the text reflow, but it does make pages a lot more readable, and works very well with a text-heavy site like this.
are You serious??? I always browse this forum and all the other sites in normal mode. in landscape I usualy zoom only to click a proper link, other then that I have no problems.

Grrrrr!

lol,typical.....ill try your settings though,cheers.
It's very nice IMHO but the "visual bookmarks" in Sense (orig. 1.66GER Stock ROM) dont's work anymore. The image stays blank. Anybody knows a workaround?

This prompted me to get rid of the internet tab and put Opera on my home tab as a quicklink. Not a solution, of course, but an alternative. With the start page in Opera 10, you don't need the bookmarks on the internet tab.
