Improve Wi-Fi Speed! WOW!!!!!!!!!!! - Touch HD General

i found this last night on ppcgeek and it works great. My WIFI is about 40% faster. I think it needs to be tested for power drain.
Here is a great tweak that speeds up your Wi-Fi.. It works by enabling the “g mode” of your device’s WLAN card (disabled by default on most devices). This hack has proven to improve Wi-Fi speeds by 3 times..
Iinstall the attached .CAB to the device, then soft reset. It will change the value of dot11SupportedRateMaskG from the default 4 (1 in some cases) to 8 inside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS.
Note: Some devices don't have that structure in the registry. If it's your case, our cab will create it automatically.
I do not take credit for the creation of this.. I merely happened to find this at the site linked above and thought to post it here..

my HD has this registry without any tweaks. Thanks anyway.

I looked on my HD and couldn't find it? How do you make the adjustment?

So Kev, your WiFi was 11Mbit before? My THD does not have this registry entry, but a similar one
....TNETW12511/Parms/Wireless
When I change the valume of Wireless to 8 (from 1) it shows 54Mbit speed after Softreset, but I forgot to check the speed before the change.
WiFi seems to run faster, but...maybe I am dreaming...
In order to change such values you need a registry editor, there is a plugin one built into Resco Explorer for example.

What is with the battery? Does it drain (much) faster?

my HD also has this registry string and by default it's 8... however i'm using dutty's 1.7 rom so maybe he cooked that reg in his rom or all 1.21.* roms have that reg string...

My first Performance Registry Tweaks CAB file

Okay okay...I know there are already a few CAB files with performance tweaks, but I made one (my 1st CAB file ) with the settings I like!
You can download 2 versions, one for Dutch users (like me) and one for WWE users.
I have 2 different versions because of a Today Item tweak with the Calendar and on Dutch Roms this is called Agenda.
I know that most of the settings here are also in apps like Registry Wizard, but this CAB files executes way faster then installing and configuring Registry Wizard
A little note: You can uninstall the program, but the settings will stay in the Registry so you have to change them manually!
Regards,
Molski
UPDATE (04-08-2006):
I updated the file to file into one file for Dutch and WWE users, I almost forgot about this file so I still didn't mention what all the registry changes are doing, but like Dr. Puttingham said....in the Wiki you can find everything back!
This file also consumes about +/- 1-2 MegaByte from your RAM Memory, but hey...what do you like more...More RAM or More Speed?
p.s. Here you can see which Registry Settings are applied in the CAB files:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\TNETWLN1\Parms]
"dot11SupportedRateMaskG"=dword:00000008
"dot11SupportedRateMask"=dword:00000001

"Flags"=dword:00000005
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Calendar"]

Thanks molski, could you include a list of what all the reg tweaks do, for those not so techie, either in a post or txt or doc format, cheers.
I will....when I have some more time, I barely had the time to make this CAB file for myself
Nice going. My files are downloaded 14 times already, so I guess people find my files useful?
If so, please let me know, I will see what more I can create or adjust
I had a huge load of support with my questions on this forum, so it's nice to finally do something back for the community

any chance you can explain what exactly the tweaks do?
Hi, is there a guide how to make a cab file that automatically installs registry tweaks? I'd like to make my own custom one, so after a hard reset I don't have to do the tedious tweaking...
Could someone explain how to make one of these CAB files for registry changes? I have searched high and low for the answer.
I did something similar for my 8125. Since I have a tendency to frequently hard reset it, I did a registry file with a bunch of the normal hacks I do, as well as setting up MMS and such. Works like a charm, although I use Resco Explorer with the registry option to do it. I haven't made a CAB file yet.
Saves loads of time after a hard reset.
How might one make this registry file? I'd really like to know.
What do the tweaks do.. .please
Can you tell us what these tweaks do?
@wiredup If you read the WIKI you'll get a lot of knowledge regarding the reg settings. These WM5 changes have been documented countless times here and also on the BA WM5 forum and other places I'm sure.
You can do some googling for more knowledge if you so desire.
molski incorporated these into a very nice cab file that is one of the very first things that I install on all of my devices. His is the most complete so far regarding speed improvements IMO
(Just one of his many contributions)
Thanks again molski!

Tweaks...
You're tweaks seem good so far... Would be nice if you could put what each one does... I am familiar with most thou. I like my GPRS/EDGE Icon to be different, so I went back and changed that. Also are skinny scroll bars actually providing better performance?
I'm gonna try this out for awhile with OMAPSCALER set at 228 (I had it at 240 with random shutdowns before, but I dont think it was overheating) and see how my performance is.
Also there are programs out there that will create CABs that change registry values... i.e. "WinCE CAB Manager"

With the O2 version, the registry just reverts back to what it was. Anyone have a cure for this?
This is a really valuable thread. Well done and a big thank you to kwabbernootje for gathering together and posting all this valuable information.
Moderators - how does a thread qualify to be sticky? I'd like to kick off the campaign to make this one sticky. I know there's some overlap with the existing tips & tweaks sticky but I think there is huge value in a thread that is focussed on performance enhancements.

For video playback buy Coreplayer 1.1.3 Qtv edition. This (interim) release does NOT fix the driver issue. However they have figured out the Qtv video overlay API’s and are able to take advantage of them. For converting DVD movies quickly take a look at CloneDVD Mobile.

Is there any registry modification to disable the TOUCH funcionality in Polaris ?!
I had a problem with my polaris after use kaisertweak , and now nothing in the screen pressed or clicked like i dont have a touch screen.
Only when i do gesture up the cube comes up .. nothing else..
and for this reason i think if there is such a modification in a registry that changed by mistake ..
is there something ?!?!
CruiseMod, can you be more specific? What did you change or trying to change in the registry? You can always try a hard reset.

Don't use Kaisertweak on the cruise ! ...or if you do so you have to make an hard reset to get back to full fonctions.
I know this error from CruiseMod :->
You have change with Kaiser tweak the Touch Value!!!
Open with a Text editor the kaisertweak xml file Look about the registry keys for touch and use "Mobile Registry Editor" to edit this value remote from your winxp pc. after softreset your device works again ... value must like over 40000!!!!
If some on want ... i can start to develope a Polaris/Nike-Tweak. I must only edit some value ... not more. realy easy to port!

1 question :

11. Fix slow scrolling large webpages Pocket Internet Explorer
- By default Pocket Internet Explorer is very slow scrolling larger webpages due to rendering problems. This can be fixed by replacing the file called "webview.dll" in the "\Windows" sytemfolder with an older version. The attached CAB file puts the faster webview.dll in the windows folder. A softreset is needed after installation. (you can simply uninstall the patch by using the program manager and restore the webview.dll file to factory default)
Click to expand...

I can't find this file "webview.dll" (all visible files "on" of course). Where else could be found ? Does the .cab file attached works in my case ?
Thanks for your help !
@Tane71
The webview.dll is in the \Windows directory. Use Resco file explorer e.q. to search this directory. The default file explorer hides certain system files. If you own a Touch Cruise the cab file will work after installation and a soft reset.

NikeTweak

I've been looking at Chainfire's KaiserTweak utility and found out that it is possible to make a customized xml file with tweaks for the Nike.
I've made a start with it and the result you can find attached. Just put the two files on your Nike and run KaiserTweak.exe
If you know tweaks that are not included yet you can post them here and I will try to include them.
All credits go out to Chainfire off course.
Tweaks included for now:
TouchFlo
- Speed up UpFPS
- Speed up DownFPS
- Speed up LightFPS
- Increase Touchflo sensitivity
- Improve Touchflo scrolling
Cache settings
- File System Cache
- GDI/Font Cache
- File System Filter Cache
Security
- Not-certified Warning
- Remove automatic lock due to Exchange pushed policy
User interface
- Disable Action Screen and/or Dialer
- Menu Animation
Battery Life
- Wifi standby mode (Although Nike hasn't got WiFI (yet) this seems to increase battery life.)
thanks that handy - saves having to re input manually evertime after hard re set - i think there is few more can add though - will get back to you

if u mention the tweaks tht u did to nike would be usefull
Mmm, if this is going to be as wide and deep as the KaiserTweak it would be a real cool addition for my Touch Dual
Maybe you could refrase the thread title to NikeTweak only and skip the KaiserTweak addition in the thread title and mention it only in the first topic - now it is not extremely clear that this is only for the Nike (* i know, it is in the Nike sub-forum but who checks that out ).
Nice thread title
For some reason I just thought this might be a better title for the thread.

A second tip : rename the app and xml in the zip attached in the first post
Tried that already but that won't work. The application looks for a file named kaisertweak.xml So I can rename the app into NikeTweak but I can't change the xml filename so that would be confusing also. I've already sent a pm to Chainfire if he can make a small change in the app so I can rename the files without problems. But no response yet.
Do you also know of some tweaks to include instead of all these cosmetic suggestions?
I will soon add the Dialer/Action Screen disable tweak which I read in a post lately.

I do not know a lot of tweaks for the Nike (yet) - maybe someone can tell if some (or more) of the Kaiser Tweaks are also applicable for the Nike.
Furthermore, i am also using Schaps Advanced Config - more or less an app with the same base thoughts but in another way implemented
Maybe this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=371411 has some points that are also for a Touch Dual !??!
Thanks

Can I remove T-Mobile operator name from HD2 via reg-tweak?

Hi Guys,
I've been doing a bit of research about removing the T-Mobile (or any) operator name from my handset/homescreen etc..and have found a number of different apps that can do this. For example Personalizer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359563
which seems to work well exept that it seems to be draining my battery heavily as I beleive that it is an 'always-on' app.
Therefore I've removed it and am looking to do a similar thing via a reg-tweak so as not to need anything running in the background. Before I get flamed for posting an often asked question, I have searched a few other threads for other handsets that have similar registry files as the HD2 and have found some similarites but nothing has worked yet:
http://forum.treonauts.com/palm-smartphones/treo-750/8695-treo-750-registry-tricks-tips-2.html
I've found the CarrierName string in HKLM/Software/Microsoft/RIL folder but altering it with the mobile network code (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code), doesn't seem to have any effect.
I'm on T-Mobile UK and I beleive my network code is 23034 but I just need to know where to use it and/or if the function is available to me with this phone yet? If anyone can shed any light and or knows a way of doing it without installing any potentially battery draining software apps, it would be much appreciated.
Happy New Year!!

Yes 23430, I had it right but wrote it wrong I tried MysticGenius's tweak already but couldn't find the 'OperatorNames' file. I tried altering CarrierName and also tried making my own string but it made no difference. What did you change xavierdemon?
Thanks
All I have in the Reg is:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\RIL\OperatorNames
And inside that I have a string value "23415"="Scuderia Ferrari" that's all. Obviously for you it would be "23430"="Whatever text you want"
HTH
No Joy
Ok Xavier,
I did that but no luck unfortunately. I created an OperatorNames file because it didn't exist in the RIL folder and put:
''23430''=''My Message''
as the string, but there was no change at all. I rebooted and tried again but still no difference. Any suggestions?
Thanks
I don't know what to suggest except maybe leaving a message on MysticGenius' tweak post and see if he knows why it's not working for you. Or see if someone can build a CAB for you to input the reg entires, I did try to have a go myself at making the CAB but it's not working at all.

I even used resco registry editor but the second value "isrir1" is not present. There is only "isrir" and that doesn't contain "parm". The other values I already changed to "0".
Missing too
The ROM I'm using is also missing the Irsir1 entry. I'm assuming that I can just add this entry into my registry. I've just finished doing this so I'll watch for a while to see if I notice any improvements. I did have the other three entries and they were all set to 0 so I don't think that I'll see much of a change.
SOS
alryt,i am trying to set the values for the second step and keep members informed.sorry for the inconvenience,but i had some screen shots taken when i did the tweaking.till then,i request all members who havent tried the tweaking to abort the process coz dont want any undesirable problems cropping up.i need some senior members and chefs for help.sorry once again.if i find it,i will provide screenshots to the process again.IN ANY WAY IF SOME1 FINDS SUMTHING FISHY AFTER TWEAKING THE DEVICE,RE-FLASH THE ROM.

The ROM I'm using is also missing the Irsir1 entry. I'm assuming that I can just add this entry into my registry. I've just finished doing this so I'll watch for a while to see if I notice any improvements. I did have the other three entries and they were all set to 0 so I don't think that I'll see much of a change.

the 1st post already says that if u are using wm6.5,reg edits are being performed by chefs to enhance the battery life.
What really happens is this.
If anyone is curious regarding what they are actually effecting they appear fairly straightforward.
Code:
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\AsyncMac1\Parms
Default value type and value are
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1
Change to
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
The NDISWAN implementation in Windows CE includes a HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\AsyncMac1\Parms registry key. This key contains a set of subkeys that allow you to configure values that are specific to the WAN miniport driver.
So, this enables power management for the WAN Miniport driver.
If you want more info as to exactly what the WAN miniport driver is/controls: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms890616.aspx
They appear to only apply to RAS and connectivity utilizing the PPP protocol (
Code:
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Irsir1\Parms
Default value type and value are
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1
Change to
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
This controls the IrDA components – this will enable power management for the IR COMM.
Code:
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\PPTP1\Parms
Default value type and value are
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1
Change to
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\L2TP1\Parms
Default value type and value are
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1
Change to
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
The last 2 will enable power management for the PPTP and L2TP transport protocols.
Still i dont know y Irsir1 is invisible to many users.
This is only an copy and past of an useful article found on this page:

1. Power Management Tweaks
So upon my year long experience with building Windows Phone Roms, i have come across all these Power Management tweaks that would someway or the other improve your Device's Battery Life. Although i found these from alot of sources but even if someone knows some more then kindly add to it.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway]
"PowerSave"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\BTAGSVC]
"PowerSave"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\AsyncMac1\Parms]
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]
"EnableCache"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt]
"ReplStoreCacheSize"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\NAND_Class]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\MMC_Class]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\SIM_Class]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\PPTP1\Parms]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\L2TP1\Parms]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings]
"CacheTime"=dword:0000003C
"SuspendResume"=hex(7):\
47,50,52,53,5F,62,79,65,5F,69,66,5F,64,65,76,69,63,65,5F,6F,66,66,00,00
2. Disable Auto Network Search
Another thing that eats up the battery is the Enabled Auto Network Search mode or 3G Network Mode. Being on a 3G Network or constantly looking for Network alternatives does require the Device to work and eat up battery. So the below tweak is to set the Network to GSM only, but if you want 3G then you can anytime go to settings and change it back to 3G. Either by going to Setting/System/Phone and disabling Auto from there or add these below Registries.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting]
"Last_SMS_Tick"=dword:00000000
"ShowPDPPage"=dword:00000001
"RefreshPINStatus"=dword:00000001
"EnableAutoPickupSec"=dword:00000001
"ShowNITZPage"=dword:00000001
"ShowUMTSBandPage"=dword:00000001
"ShowPINPage"=dword:00000001
"PhoneSettingExt-DLL"="PhoneAdvanced.dll"
"ONSDisplayRule"=dword:00000001
"QOSTrafficClass"=dword:00000004
"LongNamePrefix"="3G"
"Enable3GLongNamePrefix"=dword:00000001
"UnattendedModeTimer"=dword:00001F40
"ShowALSPage"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\BandType]
"ItemValue4"=dword:00000003
"ItemName4"="UMTS(2100+800)"
"ItemValue3"=dword:00000002
"ItemName3"="GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)"
"ItemValue2"=dword:00000001
"ItemName2"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(900+2100)"
"ItemValue1"=dword:00000000
"ItemName1"="Auto"
"ItemCount"=dword:00000004
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\NetworkType]
"ItemValue3"=dword:00000002
"ItemName3"="WCDMA"
"ItemValue2"=dword:00000001
"ItemName2"="GSM"
"ItemValue1"=dword:00000000
"ItemName1"="Auto"
"ItemCount"=dword:00000003
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\UMTS]
"OpMode"=dword:00000001
3. Backlight Settings
Third Important Tweak is the Backlight Settings. The interval in which the Backlight Turns off Automatically, the Dimness of the Back light, etc.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight
"Brightness"=dword:00000002 ; Brightness Level Set to 2 on Battery Power
"ACBrightness"=dword:00000002 ; Brightness Level Set to 2 on AC Power
"BatteryTimeout"=dword:0000001E ; Turns off Backlight(Dim) if device unused for 30seconds on Battery Power
"ACTimeout"=dword:0000003C ; Turns off Backlight(Dim) if device unused for 30seconds on AC Power
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\Timeouts]
"ACSuspendTimeout"=dword:0000012C ; Turns off device(Sleep) if unused for 5minutes on AC Power
"ACSuspendTimeoutSave"=dword:0000012C
"BattSuspendTimeout"=dword:0000003C ; Turns off device(Sleep) if unused for 5minutes on Battery Power
"BattSuspendTimeoutSave"=dword:0000003C
Although the AC Power tweaks are not relevant for Battery Life but just included.
Now as the Tweaks mentioned above are Constant for everyone so I've made a Installation File of it to straight away install it to your Devices. Download the file below and install to any device and just restart the Device.
Installation file missing.
@PajermWhere is the installation file???The next thing is the thread was started by me on what were my experiences on battery tweaking and have mentioned the steps,still,m thankful to u for ur help...thanks for the good work.
BTW,the website is unavailable wen i clicked on the link.
What to change and what not to???
@ Pajerm,well thnks for the reg edits,but i am confused as to what to change and what not to,can i expect a simplified and legible version of ur post? please! thanks in adv.
Advanced Configuration Tools.
Well, those who havent played much with the Advanced Configuration tools,this is for them.In the Power Management section,please ENABLE SD Memory Power Management, MMC Memory Power Management, AsyncMAC Power Management & PPTP Power Management & L2TP Power Management. Refer Screenshots for additional info.
For those who dont have Adv.Conf.Tools,heres the dwnload link.

so if you install advanced configuration tools and do the tweaking, then there is no need for the above registry tweaks given by pejarm or what????

I understand what you said about cooked wm6.5 ROMS already having these registry edits entered. All I was trying to point out was that the ROM that I am currently using didn't have the Irsir1 entry and so I just wondering if I could manually enter it myself.

. . . . Or . . . .
If we use the CAB file that Pajerm gave us it will do the registry tweaks for us so we don't have to use the advanced configuration tool or do the registry tweaks manually.
Correct?
Not Experimented yet,but surely will.

Alryt,can we have the reports?
