Sign of upcoming market update? - G1 General

Hello all, I am a new user here but thought that I would share an observation
I am a developer and I released a new game tonight. The interesting thing is that when I went to release the 1.1 update the Developers Console had some new options.
Before when submitting an app I had 3 location options
- All Current and Future Locations
- United Kingdom
- United States
But tonight I now have 8 location options
- All Current and Future Locations
- Austria
- Czech Republic
- Germany
- Netherlands
- Poland
- United Kingdom
- United States
These new location options are something that were promised to developers in the 12/30/08 email that announced the plans for paid apps...
I am hoping this means paid apps are coming soon

paid apps are coming, however i think the new country list is more oriented on the countries that will get the G1 released soon...
someone posted a few days back they had a "test German g1"
and a friend in cz told me tmo over there is starting to put G1 adds.
i could be wrong though but paid apps should launch really really soon
***
correction
it does mean you can assign apps to those countries in the market, one step closer to paid apps

Paid apps in market in China

I have rooted my Nexus One with the help in these forums. Thanks to all the devs for this!
I did read in the Rooting forum that some people have had problems seeing paid apps, so I went to see for myself. I currently live in China and using ChinaMobile carrier (edge only).
I googled for top paid apps and tried to do searches on them on my phone in the market and can't find any of them.
My question is, is it something I did wrong that also caused me not so see paid apps or is paid apps simply not supported in China yet?
Paid apps are currently only available in a few countries.
Copied from Wikipedia:
Availability for users
Priced applications are currently only available to Android Market users in the following countries:
* Australia - paid apps cannot be submitted by Australian Developers.
* Austria
* France
* Germany
* Italy
* Netherlands
* New Zealand
* Spain
* United Kingdom
* United States
* Japan
Google announced in an email to Android Market developers that they "will add end user support for additional countries in the coming months."
Installing Market Enabler (Google it) will let you see and download paid apps.
market enabler worked for me... Thanks for the tip!

Legend availability!

Ok This topic is to list all countries where the Legend is already available or if somebody knows any ''programmed'' launch dates in other ones.
Also Why in the Asians and ME HTC websites the Legend is not listed at all?
Would this mean it will be late or not sold there??
Europe:
Netherlands: Available
Belgium: Available
UK and rest of Europe: 22-24 March
Asia:
Do you know any dates or price??
Middle East:
Do you know any dates or price??
From experience, I've learned to not be concerned when an upcoming device is not listed on my region's HTC site.
No word about availability here in Hong Kong. But if it's anything like the release of the Diamond2 and Touch Pro2, they'll list the device on the site 2 days before it's available for sale at retail stores. This happened about a month after it's available over in Europe.
Btw, if you still feel bad that new devices aren't listed on your region's site yet, you should check out the products section of the Korean region of HTC's site. That's a sad selection there...
Poor Korea
The Hero is not listed in HTC ME website while it's available since October
So if I understand logically the Legend will not be available in Asian countries before ending April knowing it will be in Europe ending March
If only the Lebanese customs don't take 20% TAX on DHL and UPS I would have buy it from Belgium online
Legend is Available in Czech Republic.
The Legend is available in France now via expansys.fr
Norway today
I'm not sure how, but expansys.ie is saying that Legend is in stock:
http://www.expansys.ie/d.aspx?i=195942
I've checked in the morning and they had 100, now they have 39.
This is very strange, as Legend is available in UK on 29th of March

UK User with Czech Phone Advice

Just found out I have been sold a Czech phone by handtec.co.uk even though I am in the UK and so are they. Seems I can't get Manila 2.5 upgrade unless someone knows where I can get it from - or if I can HTC think it may change my language to Czech. Main question is do I have a claim against Handtec as I wouldn't have bought a Czech phone for the price I paid. Unfortunately I bought the phone in June 09. If I have no claim does anyone have any advice on upgrading a Czech phone please.

Assuming its an authentic HTC you can flash hard SPL and change your ROM to whatever you want.
Not sure about the claim stuff, sorry.
The hardware is the same no matter what country you buy it from (assuming it's not a copy) You can download an official Eastern European manila 2.5 rom here: sunnysoft.cz/htc/ (it will be in English by default)
I too was sold the Eastern European (EE) version by Handtec. They claimed that they could legally source any unit from one EU country to another without breaking any consumer protection law. Not sure they are right but don't have time to contest it.
However, the EE versions also support English and you can upgrade from the relevant country site and still read it. Happily the upgrade itself has an English title even on the Czech site. I think you are prompted for the language you want when you run the upgrade - I've certainly done it without any trouble.
The only two issues are:
a) upgrades for minor markets (e.g. EE) lag behind the 'major' ones by some weeks (and I suspect some won't appear at all);
b) some ROM applications appear with EE defaults (eg the clock comes with Warsaw and Budapest times not London, Paris, New York).
b) is trivial but a) can be a pain. I certainly won't be buying from Handtec again as I think this is a con.

Paid Application available in INDIA

Guys,
I came across a news from androidcentral.com; sorry dont know how to post a link, that google is currently testing paid apps in india and few of the users are able to see them.
Is it true, anyone from india can shed some light on this. The only thing that i didnt like about my nexus one is that im unable to get the nice apps. Now, this will make life better in india.
Thank you
Hi,
I dont know about androidcentral.com. But if you want to use paid apps from the market, try "Market Enabler". And yeah, you need to be rooted for it to work.

Market enabler has been around since the beginning of paid applications. A few seconds worth of google search would have revealed it. Paid applications are available EVERYWHERE.
Market Enabler has not been updated in a while... Try Market Access instead... it's a rewrite of Market Enabler and works great with Froyo... http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess
Yeah i do have market access, but the problem is when the google checkout screen comes after buy, my indian card is greyed out and there is an option to select another card but unfortunately there is no way to select India as the country.
So in my case, having only an indian credit card is impossible to buy apps.
Any workaroung guys other than getting myself a US applicable credit card
i bought 2 apps off the market using malaysian credit card with no problem.

Yeah saw that news, Still the buy button is greyed out. I think in a week time, I will be able to buy Apps.

i use market access to see the paid apps but you need to have a valid credit card associated with the country listed under google to buy them. Thats why my card is invalid

Yeah... But I was talking about google's announcement of market availability in 20 other countries including india.. They have announced it yesterday.. But I still can't see apps in market.
I received this email from the Android market. According to this it's over the next two weeks, so I would not worry quite yet.
"Hello,
We're writing to inform you about some changes to Android Market that require your attention.
Effective today, developers from 20 additional countries (Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland and Taiwan) can now sell paid apps on Android Market. Over the next 2 weeks, users from 18 new countries (Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, and Taiwan) will be able to purchase paid apps from Android Market.

There is a workaround for this problem
1. Go to checkout.google.com on your PC & enter your primary Gmail account details.Make sure this account is also your primary account on your Android phone.
2. You can now register your credit card and also enter an Indian shipping address.
3. Now go to the list of providers in MarketAccess and select any provider.I chose the very 1st option T-Mobile US.
4. Once the SIM has been emulated, go to market. You should now be able to see paid apps.
5. Select any paid app which you want to buy and you will automatically be directed to the Google checkout option where your card will be listed.Select the card and proceed to buy the application.
6. Almost instantly you will receive an email from Google confirming your order details and the application will start downloading from market.
I have purchased about 8 apps from the market using this method right here from India. I am really happy that I am able to support the wonderful Android community by buying the apps. Hope you enjoy your paid apps

[Q] htcsense.com & Buying HTC DHD from abroad?

Hello everyone,
I was having this question and HTC support answers to this in a very cryptic manner so I don't get a real picture. I assume that people here, especially those who live outside UK could help.
You see, when you login to https://www.htcsense.com/ for the first time, you are required to select your country. As you see, for Europe, only the following countries are listed:
•Danmark
•Deutschland
•España
•France
•Italia
•Magyarország
•Nederland
•Polska
•Sverige
•United Kingdom
•Česká republika
•Россия и СНГ
Now, I live in Cyprus and as you see, not even Greece is listed.
I don't really know what all the services there are about but from past experienses, like the Apple store, I understand that many online features could be related to the country, so if my country is not listed there, that feature will be unavailable.
HTC support, informed me that I should buy from local store instead of abroad and now my question is the following:
If I buy locally, it will be about 600 Euros but if I buy from UK shop or eBay, it will be about 100 less. So, if I do buy from UK, will I lose any online functionality from htcsense? in other words, is the phone IMEI or SN locked to a country and can only register there?
