Time syncs with internet to wrong time - Touch HD General

It probably doesn't happen for all countries, but here in Brisbane australia, if my HD syncs with the internet, the time gets set 1 hour ahead. maybe it thinks we have daylight savings here.... which we don't.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/daylight-savings-update.mspx
I installed all the updates microsoft suggested, but the time on my ppc syncs 1 hour ahead of the actual time.
Brisbane = Eastern standard time = GMT +10
vista is set to GMT +10 but it syncs the correct time.
THD however is set to GMT +10 but is 1 hr out.
I can't find any daylight saving settings.

help me out here maybe my maths doesn't add up, but if I load:
Settings/System/Clocks & alarms
If i change the time zone to GMT = 0 (London, Dublin) the time on my HTC is the correct GMT time according to the web.
If i change it to a zone GMT +1 it adds an hour. ie dublin was 1pm its now 2pm.
GMT +2 --- > 1pm becomes 3pm.
GMt +3 ---> 1pm becomes 4pm
GMT + 9 ---> 1pm becomes 10pm
THEN with an amazing feat of maths and logic
GMT +10 -----> 1pm becoms 12pm...... wot tha!!!!!!!!!! shouldn't it turn to 11pm??
maybe i'm missing something can someone fill me in?

the GMT +10 =>1pm =12pm because of daylight savings which adds an hour so it is actually gmt +11, the PPC just doesn't display it as +11
The time is correct for the cities following Daylight savings such as sydney. They just forgot that brisbane doesn't have daylight savings.

Interesting. Though I am sorry nobody helped you out at least you made sure that if anybody else ever experiences the same issue he will find this thread and get the info.

Thanks Avocado, with your help I have found the fix you require on the
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/.../thread/b6c51b6a-431e-4fa8-af71-fe7a4cd6494a/
Apparantly there are a bunch of other brisbanites having the same problem and probably people from perth it seems.
Stupid Microsoft didn't list Brisbane as a non daylight savings city...... Maybe they were hoping Anna Bligh, our current Premier would change qld to Daylight savings!.
Anyway if you can't be bothered following the link, or for some reason its dead then the fix is to
1. find the defective country in the Microsoft table of "time zone codes"
Brisbane = 260
2. Copy the TZI value from the time zone u want to fix by getting it off a windows computer from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones
3. Create a "TZI" binary value in your ppc (HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Timezones\"number from step 1") using the TZI code from your PC.
4. Change ur timezone to another timezone, reset, then change it back.
I tested this on my HD and it worked (painful though). I learned the hard way that the reset steps were necessary.
I have uploaded a txt file of my brisbane registry fix for PPC. You need to rename it to .reg and install it on your PPC. then follow the reset steps.

I've just been for a trip to NZ with my touch HD. The time sync is out by an hour there as well! How is this possible??
Surely this means that all windows mobiles sync the wrong time in Bris and NZ and I'm guessing many other countries.
it was a mission to get my vodafone prepaid to let me use the internet.

brisane timezone

Can you help me as I am bit code illiterate
What I do with after I have re named it .reg and put it a folder on the HD?

how do you synch the time with the internet?

Pre-announce: XDA Special Edition ROM v1.2, need your help!

We're creating Special Edition ROM v1.2, the last one still based on the 'old' O2 3.17.03 ROM. We chose not yet to build based on PPC2003 because we feel many things will still change between now and the actual release, and we still need to learn a lot more in order to be able to make something which is a significant improvement over the official ROM, once it appears.
So what's new in v1.2 ?
PhonExt
[list:a7505d4dbf]Single handed dialing
per-contact and per-category ringtones
D9
Another means of dialing with one hand
imov Messenger Basic (formerly jabberCE)
jabber
ICQ
AIM
Yahoo
MSN
PocketCHAT
IRC
tdClock
Large clock displayed on Today screen
tdLaunch
A few rows of shortcut buttons on today screen
[/list:u:a7505d4dbf]
Futhermore we fixed a few remaining issues, and depending on space we may add a virus scanner (AirScanner), an alternative POP mail client (nPOP) , and maybe more.
We need your help:
In order to be able to add more providers in the AutoConfig dialog, we need snapshot files from people that have a working setup for their provider.
Here's the procedure:
1) Check http://xda-developers.com/incoming to see your provider isn't there yet.
2) Set up your machine like someone in your country is likely to want it (12/24 hr clock, timezone (pacific for US?) and other regional settings. Create the necessary connections (at least GPRS, WAP if possible), and name them something logical (such as "O2 GPRS Internet").
3) Make a snapshot using the ssnap.exe tool provided with the Special Edition ROM.
4) Extract the following keys with all their values and data from the snapshot to a text-file:
[list:a7505d4dbf][HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Clock]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Destinations\WAP Settings]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Providers\{EF097F4C-DC4B-4c98-8FF6-AEF805DC0E8E}\HTTP-{ADB0B001-10B5-3F39-27C6-9742E785FCD4}]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Providers\{EF097F4C-DC4B-4c98-8FF6-AEF805DC0E8E}\null-corp-{310E8001-80B9-C8BE-C333-EB6AB0026E3C}
For each connection, the following keys, where XXXX is the name of your connection:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\XXXX]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\XXXX]
5) Name the text file "Country - Provider" (e.g. "Germany-D1") and upload using ftp to xda-developers.com, username 'xdaftp' password 'xdaftp'.[/list:u:a7505d4dbf]
There's a file already there called 'Netherlands-O2' which can serve as an example.
You help will be much appreciated by others, and you'll be able to cold-boot v1.2 and have all your provider's settings right there. Deadline is this Sunday, July 6th, in the evening.

No, it's not. I guess users of this provider would need to set up GPRS themselves.

Ah, because we never travel far from our warm cradles, my friend.
What were those registry settings again, and how would you like 'em? (I seem to remember being able to set it to where it does warn, ut much later...)

Then again: you could just leave off the user and password values, and it would still be useful: i.e. provide apn, proxy (if applicable) and other settings. So yes, please send it anyway...

Hey, it also will be EXCELLENT if we can put our OWN LOGO (or picture) in the after RESET screen.
Dear XDA developer,
I already uploaded Thailand with AIS as the provider. There are other 2 providers in Thailand, which are DTAC and Orange. I will try to find them.
I wonder that some tools might be on your consideration in v1.2:
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- TIFF file viewer (for viewing FAX file on our mail)
- Ephemeris for checking the Sun, Moon and Compass
- Ruler (I think this is cool, when you need to measure something but no ruler)
- Stop time for StopWatch
- FreqTune for checking the sound frequency
- Remote Display, CERDisp (Microsoft)
(All above is freeware)

Hi Jabber by mov software creates a lot of GPRS traffic as opposed to ICQ. Since both apps are freeware, I suggest you install both in the next release. What I would _really_ love is the pocket divx player which can also handle ogg vorbis and mp3. Definitely a better choice than the Windows Media Player (www.pocketmvp.com).
Installing VNC was an excellent idea!
This is a great place for info on the xda, my respects to y'all at xda-developers.com

Also it would be nice to create a tool to change your operating logo on your XDA i.e. I’m using T-Mobile as my provider

Hi,
I have added the German-D1 settings...
just to let you know I had to choose two different Keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Destinations\Einstellungen WAP]
... Wap Settings is Einstellungen WAP in German Systems...Installed on an English 1.2 it should go in WAP Settings Key I would guess...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Providers\{EF097F4C-DC4B-4c98-8FF6-AEF805DC0E8E}\null-corp-{FB2E8000-800B-849A-BC41-A56D8A2D7266}]
... I was not able to find the {310E8001-80B9-C8BE-C333-EB6AB0026E3C} in my German system, so I took the one with "Proxy"="new-corp:1743" line, as in you netherland "demo" file.
Let me know if this is useble or if I shall search something different...

Is tdclock configurable at all?!

I'm using the new SER 1.2 and I'm having an issue with tdclock. It *always* displays in 24 hour format, regardless of the regional settings. Any way to fix this??
It looks like tdClock can indeed only show 24 hr time.
It has a 'date_format' registry key for the date format, but none for the time (and I just tried adding 'time_format': no sigar...)
Hmmm, bad...

[APP][UPDATED Oct 9 2008] XChange R8 currency convertor

Hi guys,
I must admit that I didn’t write software for a few years, and this is my first attempt after a long break – so please be gentle…
Xchange R8 is a simple currency convertor. You can choose 3 currencies to be displayed and for the time being you have two WebServices available: Bank of Romania (for my Romanian friends) and Bank of England (for my other friends). Bank of England currency are accessed via the Export Technologies WebService.
You need of course an Internet connection.
For Bank of Romania you can choose to see the currencies as they were at a certain date. Before you ask, chosing a date in the future will alas not work. The Export Technologies service does not have this function though, and when working with the Bank of England this choice will be unavailable.
The program remembers the last downloaded values for each service.
Please note that the Export Technologies service (for Bank of England) is slow – an update can take up to a minute. There’s nothing I can do about that.
I wrote this program initially for myself, as I often needed to know the currency rates and this is much faster than navigating from the browser. Then I saw somebody on this forum asking about such a program. While I’m sure better solutions can be found, I had a lot of fun writing this. Besides, it’s free!
I’m totally willing to add other WebServices to the list if you can provide me with their address.
Please note that I can only work on this during weekends: I have a company to run and it takes almost all my time.
Another note: .NET 3.5 framework is required.
UPDATE: v 1.1:
Added Bank of Hungary web service
Corrected a bug in the calendar: when first opened it always went to a day in July. Now it defaults to today.
Notes: Bank of Hungary does not update the service daily. Therefore, after you press Download, you may see a different date than today appearing at the top: this is the date of the last update. Furthermore, because of this, when you use the calendar to choose a date, you may get the message "No data available for the chosen date!". Simply choose another date. Hint: they don't update during weekends.
UPDATE 21/08/08 v 1.2
Added Invert function for those who prefer to see the exchange course mirrored. For example, if before you saw 1 GBP = 2 USD, after Invert you'll see 1 USD = 0.5 GBP.
Added calculator. For pic see next post.
UPDATE Oct 9 2008 v 2.0
You can now convert from EUR to USD and actually whatever you want from a list of 150 currencies. Choose Webservicex from Options -> Currencies.
Please note that this service is updating all the time, so values taken at a few minutes apart can vary slightly. This may actually be a good thing if you want to feel the pulse of the market in these stressed times.
One problem with Webservicex (affecting only Romanians as far as I can tell): it only contains the old currency (ROL) and it always returns zero. I don't see this as real trouble, as you can always use the Bank of Romania service.
Pic for the calculator:

I definitely would. However, I need what is called a WebService, like http://www.exporttechnologies.com/webservices/currencyservice/currencyservice.asmx?WSDL.
That is usually an XML file defining the access to the service. A site simply giving a list of currencies is not a web service.
I looked at the Czech National Bank site (the english version) and could not find any link to a service. Perhaps you can help me there?

Sorry, unless I'm very wrong this is just a method to set the date (and info) on their site. I can't use this to retrieve the data in the application.
A webservice link always ends with WSDL.
This can tell you if I can use it or not. By the way, WSDL = Web Services Description Language, in case you wondered

[Q] Timezone changing via registry and automatic time readjustment (WinMo 6.1 Pro)

Hello everyone,
Well I revert to the wisdom of these forums after trying to solve an issue on a Motorola MC75 that runs WinMo 6.1 Pro.
Specifically I want to change the timezone and get the clock to automatically readjust. So if time is 11:00 AM and timezone is GMT+0 if i change to timezone GMT-1 I want the clock to go back 1 hour to 10:00 AM. This works fine using "Clock.exe" that is supplied with WinMo 6.1 Pro.
The tricky part however is that I do not want to use "Clock.exe". I want to either make the change via the registry or using some other application that accepts command line parameters for example "setclock.exe -timezone gmt-7" (this application should also readjust the time).
Since I haven't found any time/clock/timezone application to do this I have been trying to apply registry changes. Attached I am including two registry files with the registry keys for GMT+0 and GMT-1. I am applying/merging these registry settings using "regmerge.exe" that comes with Motorola MC75 devices.
Now, when I change the timezone using these registry files, the timezone is in fact changed and I confirm this via "Clock.exe" however the time is never re-adjusted.
If I run an NTP application that synchronizes the time with an NTP server, time is also not readjusted it is maintained exactly according to the previous timezone.
It seems that when I make the change via the registry, the timezone is altered (confirmed via clock.exe) however it is in fact not applied all over the OS. I therefore tried warm and cold booting the device however this also didn't work. I also tried running an NTP sync after warm booting and it also didn't work.
So it seems to me that when one changes the timezone using "Clock.exe" it not only changes the registry keys but also applies the change all over the OS and therefore readjusts the time or does some other change that I am not aware of.
I come to this conclusion because of the following. Say my device initially has as time 11:00 AM and timezone GMT+0. When I change to GMT-1 via registry files, my timezone is in fact changed but the time is maintained at 11:00 AM.
Now say I via "Clock.exe" change the timezone to say GMT-8, press ok and apply the changes. The time here will readjust. If I now change back to GMT-1 my clock will revert back to the old time 11:00 AM. At this point if I finally run a NTP sync application my clock is correctly changed to 10:00 AM.
Well I apologize for the long post but I really have to make sure my problem is well understood. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas please do share them with me.
Many thanks,
icebrian
Setting time
Try checking out the OpenNetCF libraries. It is open source. There is a companion tool that I am running from my PC while I have the PDA connected called psynctime.exe
This tool allows me to synchronize my PC time with the PDA time and I have confirmed that it does in fact change the device time. If you can look at the source code for this executable you can see what calls they are making in the device to set the time.
Hi dchapma1, Thanks for your reply. It was indeed helpfull. From what I gathered in the source code time is actually manually recalculated so that minutes are added or subtracted from the current time. Then finally various other registry key's are changed with hexadecimal keys. It seems that the process is mostly manual and that basically gave me the idea if also doing this same process.
Basically I set various registry keys via the registry files, then I sync the readjusted time to the device then I force a reboot. From there on timezone has aparently been aplied and if I use a NTP application time is correctly maintained.
Seems as thou this is my only option. Once again thanks for the input.
Regards

Enable Cortana for every phone without Jailbreak using Fiddler

Modify the time to next month on your phone
Set proxy address to your Fiddler
Tap Search key on your phone
Look for the request to rwsettingblue.xml, websearch.exe use it to generate BingConfiguration_**-**.xml
I'm lazy to write how to write script to modify this file, but you can find similar thing from marass82's post.
I think these information is enough for every developpers.
You can always modify time on your phone to make websearch.exe request new xml from bing.com
I don't know the exact expiry time of this config xml cache (Maybe it will expiry within 1 day), but set one month ahead is enough and can ensure it update.
Thanks! that explains why some new cortana features take an extra week or two to start working on my phone after they come out. I am going to have to try the set-the-date-1-month-in-the-future thing.
this im make some little trick on lumia 520 rm 914 cv malaysia and not dev unlock also official cyan update
Thanks a lot for the hint!
I managed to get cortana working with Quiet hours enabled on my Lumia 1020 with cyan and the german CV, but the search is broken and cortana doesn't listen or speak to me.
Is there any chance to get this working by editing the rwsettingbluegdr1.xml or is this part of the GDR2-update?
