youtube on o2 pay & GO - XPERIA X1 General

Im about to buy a x1 on o2 pay & go and was wondering if i would be able to watch youtube vids if i get the youtube app panel because i heard o2 doesnt allow streaming

You can watch youtube videos via GPRS however it is not only time consuming but on a pay and go tariff very expensive. I would suggest upgrading your tariff to data all inclusive or make sure you are using wifi when using youtube.

Orange payg all you can eat gprs.

Sorry if you all already know this, but orange payg are offering unlimited gprs for only £1 per day, i've been using it for about 2 weeks and it's pretty good, it's a full data connection too so you can get emails or sync over the air etc. In my opinion the best part is that you can pick and choose when you want it.
yeah i'm on it too. The Orange Unlimited GPRS extra for £1 thing right?
People signing upwith Orange to get this extra,REMEMBER, the gprs extra runs out at midnight, regardless of what time you apply it!
Applying it at 23:00 is just plain stupid cos you'll have to re-apply the extra at 00:00 anyway.
I've got a contact stored on my XDA that is assigned to a speed dial key. When pressed, it automatically re-applies the extra.
To do the same, create a new contact & give it this phone number: 450p#p3p1p4p1p1
The call to 453 should take about 45 secs, after that your extra should be applied
THE GPRS DOES NOT INCLUDE DOWNLOADING OVER P2P PORTS!!! almost everything else works fine (ftp, http, https, msn messenger, e-mail-etc) but using p2p costs you money, regardless of whether the extra is applied or not.
anyone know of a PPC app that dials a contact at a scheduled time and disconnect after X seconds? would be real useful for this
does that mean i cud use skype on it?

No, gprs is to slow for skype. My T-mobile gprs is about 40-50kbits/s. (flat-fee for 9,50 euro's a month )
sorry but what why can i use?
im looking into all thsi mobile net stuff but need to find the facts before i lay out money
if i try to get info in store they just try and sell,me stuff i dont need
Well its about the same speed as dial up, so you can surf the net (albeit slowly) and you can use MSN and collect email. its useful but its no replacement for wifi or 3G. I use it when I'm at work (i do a lot of waiting around)
Are you sure you are right ???? GPRS
Ive just picked up an orange sim and yes the £1.00 per day unlimited offer still stands but its for orange world , not other services . I thought from the original thread that this would give me GPRS access to the web ?
Can you confirm what service you have been getting with it ?
Im looking for a basic internet connection I dont mind slow but I do mind £2.35 and upwards per Meg .!!!
Any thoughts
Astro1
I can confirm (with 390 megs of GPRS used under my belt) that it works with any http address.
Haha, if the service worked with P2P, orange'd have been raped for bandwidth by now.

T-Mobile TV UK

Just read that T-Mobile have started offering TV on 3G devices in the UK. Just tested it and it works a treat - it's free until 30th June for 24 hour passes
For some reason, I don't get the link on my Vario II on the homepage but this link works to take you straight to the EPG
http://10.111.189.31/servlet/download?page=download/epg/jsptemplates/onNow.jsp
Enjoy
Smiffy.
I know the link is truncated but if you hold your mouse over it, you should be able to see the full link in your status bar
Smiffy.
Nice one Lord.
Also got the link from t-mob
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/personal/pages.do/our-services/internet-on-the-move/mobile-tv-costs
Yeah, I had a look at that too but it doesn't mention any of the WM phones and I don't get a link off the w'n'w homepage - it's as if they don't want us to use it
Mine didn't work straight away either - I had to tell the Streaming Media program to connect via the "T-Mobile Internet" connection and it works a treat
I'm running Black 3.5, btw...
Smiffy.
Wow
and the tv hr pass works well. Only works over 3g though not over WIFI.
How did you find this out

This should also work, and is easier to re-type....
Hi,
I have just got the Vario 2 and tried to use the mobile TV. I got as far as clicking on the link and streaming media opened.
All I then got was connecting..... and then no network found.
What did you have to do to get it working?
Thanks in advance.
when the player opens have a look at menu, connection. it could need setting.
web and walk t&c's?
Just had a thought; under the terms and conditions for the basic web and walk, audio and video streaming explicitly banned. Where do those users (like me) stand with this? where did you find the link?
link is on the tmobile home page
the tinyurl link was to make it easier to put the really long link into your hermes if your viewing this from a desktop browser.
As for getting it to work. i had to click the link, agree to 24 hour pass, and then it allowed the links to open. It failed everytime for me, so idid a soft reset and since then its works faultlessly.
Awesome find.. It works perfectly on my cheap as chips pay as you go system.
One thing I'm not sure of is do I still pay for the bandwidth used ?
PAYG has a outrageously expensive £1 limit each day.. yes £1 for all your browsing etc. However its not unlimited.. and they "may" get funkey if you go over 15 meg per day. streaming video will zap this up real fast..
Down pub was streaming music vidz and news,- a nice channels selction available.. (>< Holyoaks channel too.. sigh) followed by a quick google maps to show m8's how nice the hermes is. They were all amazed. I just dont know how much bandwidth it all uses up, thus how much ultimatly it will cost, or if viable.

Reading thier t&c's , It seems that MobileTV is excluded from webnwalk and is a separate product. So you don't need to even subscribe to webnwalk to use Mobiletv.
However, you DO need webnwalk to access the t-mobile webpages related to mobileTV. So if you have a 1 day pass, each day you would need to access the website (and incur webnwalk charges unless they are included in your price plan), plus the mobile tv charge.
I think on other devices (non WM), you can instal an application to handle the charging and playing of TV, thus avoiding need for web page accessing.
Now, i wonder if the MobileTV charge is an 'extra' or whether it is deducted from my FlexT allowance?
cool, something thats works for me 1st time!
the big brother 8 channel is the E4 live footage!
A way to keep her happy down the pub
Well, I managed to get it working once, via GPRS (was downstairs, rubbish 3G reception downstairs).
Subsequently, reconnected on 3G and tried to make it work - making sure the Streaming Media app was set to connect via T Mobile Internet... No dice.
Not been able to make it work since then, I think there must be a problem with their streaming platform somewhere or the way the variables are being passed to the streaming app, because why else would it work once and then never work again? Very annoying.
you are rather fab Lordsmiff, I have spent AGES trying to find that stupid link
Not having to top up....?
Being a bit of a tight a#*e and wanting to give this a go, I was wondering if t-mob give any free credit if you register you SIM or anything like that. I just stuck a new PAYG SIM in and wanted to give it a go but am at work so can't/don't really want to put any credit on it. I know o2 and Voda do...
you do need some credit on your account to sign up for the service via the webpage which is on your phone.
However t-mobs online billing site does work with pay as you go too. so I can check how much I've used etc, and you are not charged for the streaming video bandwidth, which is cool.
One strange thing is I notice listed is a
TMO Network Coupon 2001 QOS1000 - a data link.. saying 21k,
This has been poling every hour for the last day.. I have not been charged for this.. I have no idea what this is. or if it is linked to the tv system... odd.
shame the service has been down since at least 5:45am!
Hi my thoughts (using Tytn Vario II);
- Streaming works well. I hate streaming over 3g but this works well. No breaks in audio or video. The framerate sometimes is low for the video but audio is fine all the time. Again fairly acceptable with current technoloy.
- the electronic program guide could have been better, but i guess they are trying to keep it simple for compatability with less specification mobile devices.
- Not quite 'live' TV (except maybe Big Brother). Seems to be preselected scheduled content. Most programs are small snippets - but that is fine since most mobile TV usage is about wanting to have a quick 5-6 minute view.
Can't wait for the day we can view on our mobiles the exact same content that is being transmitted on normal tv.
- Hopfully more content to appear if this trial is sucessful for T-Mobile.
- Dont really like the built in Streaming Media Player but it does the job ok - anyone know of any 3rd party alternatives out there?
- shame no BBC channels.
Finally,
- would I pay for this service? ....hmmm..maybe - a little more choice in content and so long as once I pay for say monthly access AND dont have to worry about data charges....
PROS:
Reliable and acceptable access compared to similar 'free' alternatives
CONS:
Limited choice of channels
Not enough of 'live' broadcast content

T-Mobile Web n Walk Tarif Question

I have spoken to T-Mobile and looked at the site but it just says web browsing is covered by Web n Walk what I want to know is using Windows Live on my Vario 2 is the Windows Live Hotmail sync covered in the Web n Walk £.7.50 a month tarif or is this charged as extra.
I just want to avoid adding things to my Vario that are going to end up costing me a fortune on my next bill.
I dont suppose Windows Live Messenger is covered is it ???
Can anyone using this tarrif with T-mobile UK let me know there experience ??? and whats usable and whats not.
Regards
Kevin
Hi Kev, as far as I know everything is covered on web 'n' walk, I have it and they've never charged me extra for anything. The only thing you I think you have to watch out for is using P2P - if you're always downloading movies they will get you under their fair use policy (some sort of discretionary cap).
You should also check before using your phone as a modem for your laptop, else you might end up with a 5-figure phone bill, like that Canadian chap...
Officially pretty much anything apart from Web browsing and email is excluded from the standard WnW. Try the 7.50 Wnw and if you can access Messenger then do so as you won't be charge any extra. Don't be surprised if one day you find the port blocked though.
This link tells you exactly what you can and cannot, officially, use web'n'walk for:
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/uk/fairuse/
summary:
wnw standard:
1GB monthly limit
modem - NO
P2P - NO
VOIP - NO
IM - NO
wnw plus:
3GB monthly limit
modem - YES
P2P - YES (it doesn't specifically say not whereas standard does say NOT)
VOIP - NO
IM - YES
wnw max:
10GB monthly limit
modem - YES
P2P - YES (as above)
VOIP - YES
IM - YES

Yep thats the jist of it....ive seen people who signed up to standard wnw very early on be able to use it for a modem (as i believe the tncs didnt say not to when they signed up) but i had to upgrade to wnw+ to use ICS over my HSDPA connection......works great!
Yea, I started my T-mobile contract in Nov '06 and at first didn't even question the wnw usage as a modem, I just assumed I could... Just before ordering while doing a bit more research I found that fair usage link so went for the wnw+ instead, only 2.50 more pm (at the time).
In fact, I'm sat in a Hotel room in East Kilbride using internet sharing on my Hermes, right now, as I type this on my laptop I didn't have to ask T-Mobile to enable HSDPA either, it was enabled by default. I consistently get ~60KB/s download speed, almost broadband-like
To specifically answer the original question, officially I would say you CAN use wnw standard to enable Windows Live to sync your hotmail but you cannot use Windows Live Messenger. Unofficually, I doubt T-Mobile would do anything if you did... If I were you go for the WnW standard if you don't think you'll want to use the internet sharing and if T-Mobile send you a warning about using Messenger then just upgrade to plus... no bother.
I'm on WnW basic.
The only thing that's blocked is FTP, which is easily worked around by just using my own (private) proxy server to route through. Everything else has always worked, including email and WLM.

Sh*t - 6GB Data transfer??

Hi,
my mobile service provider sent me a bill, wich contains 6GB data transfer (and I have no flat-rate). I'm 100% shure, that I didn't caused that data traffic.
Are there log-files for data transfers at the Touch HD device? I used the "standard" ROM with no traffic manager installed.
Thanks for you help.
Regards
hqqh
hi, as far as i am aware, there is no inbuilt logs of data transfer
but 6GB?!?!?!?!? what on earth have you been doing with your device? using it as a modem for a desktop pc???? downloading loads of video on it?
i thought i was pretty having at surfing, emailing (no attachments thats just silly) etc etc and i dont get through my allowance of 500MB per month
seems an awful lot of data transfer, if you are not sure you've used this up, then i would challenge your service provider
an idea of data usage is here:
http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispat...fpb=true&_pageLabel=template09&pageID=MB_0005
but also consider that this is a 3g usb stick for a full size pc, the data usage on a pda should be considerably less for the same sort of usage as you are less likely to have such big files going back and forth
i used that to guestimate that to use 6gb you must have.....
surfed for 5 hours daily, sent 30 emails daily, downloaded 100 mp3 each month, downloaded 50 high res pics each month and downloaded 4 movies each month
that or youve been watching shed loads of streaming porn!
seriously, its not unknown for service providers to get their data billing wrong.....
just a thought, you havent got it setup as a mobile hotspot or something?
Sh*t - 6GB Data transfer?? Reply to Thread
Hi,
thanks for you answer.
I don't use the HD as modem or mobile internet device. Only if I have a wlan connection, I check my emails or some news pages!
This 6GB download should be taken place at one day according to the bill. If you take the theoretical download speed of 7,2MBit/sec this should have taken about 2 hours. But I this under real conditions a bandwidth of 7,2MBit/sec * 0,5 or 0,3 --> I should have downloaded or streamed 5 - 7 hours.
So my plan is to do not pay for these 6GB (580€) and then the moblie service provider has to check the technical equipment. Hopefully there is an error .
Does someone has experience with not correct bills?
Regards
hqqh
i had an incorrect bill, hence my reply
i told them what you are saying basically... that i could not have shifted that much data overnight while i was asleep (i cant remember how much it was now, several hundred MB i think.... which while possible i knew i did not do due to the times the data was transferred.... that was with the HTC Charmer which didnt havent wifi so couldnt have been hacked over wifi somehow (bluetooth was permantly off and unless you were stood outside my front door, you would connect via BT anyway)
they didnt argue and credited my bill
as you are talking about 580euros, then persoanlly i would put a block on the direct debit or however you pay your bill to make sure they dont take the payment then challenge them... this action could mean you breach your contract though
what ever you do dont just not pay them and wait for them to contact you... i would ring your service provider now if i was you
I do a lot of browsing and I often watch a few YouTube videos each month and I've never really gone over 1GB, so something very strange must have happened for that much data to have been used, especially if you don't even browse the web or anything.
Can they deliver to you a detailed bill with when you have downloaded these 6gb.
I use internet access alot, and I reach my 5OOmb limit only one month over 12. It was when I have used alot poping email with big attached files.
You said you that you sometimes alless the net on wifi. But are you sure that you are using only wifi and not gprs.
The best solution for you for the future is to deactivate gprs data access. You will find tools to do it like HDTweak or others.

just got data plan must subscribe to web2go?

Hi so i just got my data plan started. I got the 500 talk text web and when i open up the browser it send me to web2go.com and says subscription upgrade required. I click on the link and i get Unlimited web a description then price $0.00.
Am i suppose to subscribe to this before i can use data? I'm kind of skeptical i thought it was included already i don't want to subscribe then i get charged for it even though it says $0. Im on tmoblie btw
i believe i have the same plan but mine says unlimited android web. maybe you should call and let t-mobile you have a android device or go to my.tmobile.com
