Ringing someone who messaged you. - Touch HD General

I have an HTC Touch HD purchased in the UK on release date.
ROM version: 1.14.405.3 (22273) WWE
ROM date: 10/24/08
If I get a text message, what is the quickest way for me to call that person *without* adding him/her to my address book.

I think if you hit the call button while reading the text message it will ask you if you want to call the number.

yes
just highlight the number in the text you are reading and hit call

Aha, I never thought of that. Works great, thankyou!

I just tried it with a message and after highlighting the number and pressing the call button, it takes me to the call screen wanting me to type in a number, nothing more.
What am i doing wrong here?

this is what you have to do:
1. go to your message tab from tf3d
2. chose message
3. chose the option of the lower left corner - i belive is something like "more". i have my HD in another language so i don't know exactly, but it should be something like that
4. the windows mobile list of messages will open
5. scroll to your deisred message
6. select it, but don't open it
7. press the "call" button
et voila! complicated but works!

Ok that worked, step 6 is hard cause when you select it, it then opens the message so you have to press back and the number is selected.
Thanks.

thai is because of missing d-pad of the HD. win some, lose some!
you welcome!

open All Messages, open keypad, use down arrow to select message then call
or click and hold message till options open, click message (the options go) hit call
open message, tap the number, it should say call

opening the slider go to call history?

When I open the slider or invoke the "phone app", the actual scrren I get is that of the call history. I then have to press "keypad" to go to the dialer?
Is there a way to go straight to the dialer when I open the slider?
hmm...since the hardware keypad is already open, just press a digit to go to the dialer. or did that not solve it?
No, actually pressing any number in the keypad has no results in call history...
It is actually a setting in the phone.
Go to Settings/Personal/Phone/Advanced and make sure that the bottom box is not ticked "Press SEND key to open Call History" untick it.
I hope this is what you mean.
seal, you're a GENIOUS!!
I thought that checkbox only affected the send button but it also affects the slide open.
Thanks!!

Can't copy and paste in SMS

Hey guys,
I've come from the Diamond1 and I've noticed with the Diamond2 that when you send a text message and you want to send the same text to another person, you can't copy and paste from the sent window.
For example, you can't highlight previous messages sent to you and ones that you've sent and copy them. I find this very annoying, anyway to fix it?
Thanks
I can do it fine if I go into MENU and do SELECT TEXT.
If you don't get the copy/paste options in the menu, you can always set the keyboard to the default wm one, and push CTRl-c, CTRL-v.
It CAN be done...
Under Sent Items, open mail. Text is greyed.
Select Menu\Select Text
Select the text you want
Press & hold on the selected text. Menu pops up "Delete..Forward...Mark as Unread..COPY..Select All" select copy.
Exit message by the back hard button
start new message by menu\new\sms
tap once in message area (not "To:")
Press & hold next to cursor and wait a second - the dotted circle will come out and give you the option to paste.
I have a Diamond 2 Win 6.5 Hellenic.
None of the above can be done with this operating system. Copy-Paste is totally missing.
juz press n hold in the sms
the menu will show "Make Selection" as the first option
select that n select the text u want, press n hold again n you'll get the copy option
I came across this problem yesterday, If I tried to paste more than 640 characters (length of more than 4 sms) it would not paste.
It seems to paste fine if the lengh of the sms is less than this.

a few questions

hi guys
i have a few questions about the HD2
1) can i assign different ringtones to different contact groups
( i did not see it in the group options )
2) i tried to send a file to a friend using bluetooth , in the file options there was a send... option but it didn't specify send with BT , mms , email
and when i tried to send the file it said it was to big ( BT is not supposed to have size transfer limit )
i think thats it for now
thanks in advance

Use SIP Change to make the keyboard permanent.
There's also touch pal but i don't like it. Finger keyboard is pretty good.

Hiya...firstly for the Group Setup:
1. Select "Phone" text link at bottom of main page.
2. Select "All People" text link at bottom of phone.
3. Slide the bottom task bar across to the third icon, the "group" icon.
4. Select the "New" text from the option box to create a Group Name.
5. Select the "Add" button and select all the people you want to assign to group.
6. Select "Done" at bottom of phone.
7. Select "Done" for the second time.
You can repeat this for all the groups you want to set up.
For the ringtones:
1. You can either go to "All People" list...as above.
2. Select the persons namefrom the Group you have set up.
3. Select "Edit Contact" on screen.
4. Scroll down the page...you can now assign a "ringtone" from the option box.
And finally, to transfer your contacts from your SIM:
1. Select "Phone" text link at bottom of main page.
2. Select "All People" text link at bottom of phone.
3. Select the "Menu" text link at bottom right of phone.
4. Select the "Import SIM Contacts" from the pop up menu.
Now have a cold drink and sit back and admire what you have just done!

Seems like you are assigning a ringtone to the contact, not to the group. I can't find a way to do it for a whole group.

browse for contact during an active call.

hello.
i am unable to look for contacts during an active call.
may be i am unware of hw to do tht, but would be highly greatful if sumone helps me out in sorting this out..
Instructions to veiw contacts while on a Call.
while on the call screen,
1. Press Menu button on bottom left.
2. Tap "Add Call"
3. Then look @ bottom of the screen and you should see contacts, along with call log and other options.
Or the easier way is to use the Google Search bar.
Its on my home screen.
Send a message if you don't understand, or still have problems and I will call you to walk you through it, while on the phone with me

Issues after upgrade?

Dear friends,
I've got the X2 for 1 month, and updated to MR2 as soon as i got the phone. Been happy with the quicker response, and rarely freeze. But after upgrade i found flaws that make me dissapointed :
1. In the middle of conversation, usually i have shortcut to Notes, so i can make notes while talking. Now the button is gone, replaced by much less useful dialpad. More strange, now there are 2 identical "end call" button : one is big , in the center of panel, one is small at the bottom of the screen. This is ridiculous. The only way i can get to Notes is to press Windows logo, go to main menu, scroll to Notes and press the icon. Thats way too long.
2. In the contact menu, i can only register 1 mobile number, 2 work numbers and 2 home numbers. So if the contact has 2 mobile number, only 1 can be assigned as Mobile Number, the other must go to Work or Home. The problem : if we open the contact, the only option to send SMS is to Mobile Number, not from work or home, despite it is really a cellular number. Apparently the software think the Work and Home number as a landline number. This is stupid. The only way to send SMS to work/home number is go to message menu, and press "add recipient", and so on. Why can't they make it from contact menu??
3. If i got a calling from unknown number (not from a Contact), usually i want to save the new number as a new contact or add to exsting contact. But i cannot do the second thing. I go to call history, choose the number, press the menu key, and all i get is "add to contacts", and it only allow me to save the number as new contact, but cannot add to existing contact. very annoying! i have to write it down in the paper, just like old days
I don't know if the above flaws happen because of the upgrade, or this is the new Windows 6.5.3 habit?? My old Ipaq 912 with Windows 6.1 can do all the above mentioned.
I feel very dissapointed...hope you guys can give me feedback?
Thanks for reading
1. Notes when calling is not in the menu anymore, I'm not sure if it's every WM 6.5.3 device. You have to go through main menu.
2. Adding contact works great when you enable the prompt asking you to add the number to your contacts after finishing conversation. In this case you're able to also add it to existing one.
3. Every WM, also 6.1 supports only 1 mobile number.
However when you create sms from your messaging, you can send the sms to ANY number you want.
Thanks - and tips for LED problem
Thanks, appreciate your input. I have enabled the option to add number after conversation.
I personally think the Notes in calling mode, very useful. I have seen it in every new WM phones, including HTC and Samsung. Its pity they removed it on X2.
One more thing, about LED notification problem (which dont work when the phone enter standby mode /black screen), and the phone will not wake up when received SMS. I have simple solution, but there are sacrifices to made. here's how :
1. Disable the Auto Lock
2. In the backlight & power management menu, in the field "turn off backlight after....", fill 30 seconds or 1 minute, to save battery
in the field "turn off screen if not used for..." choose "never"
3. Dont' forget to set the illumination for SMS/MMS received as "no limit"; in the "sound and notification" menu.
4. (optional) Enable auto adjust backlight in the backlight & power management
Basically, we prebvent the phone to enter standy mode at all. This will reduce the battery life about 20%, but you will never miss a sms. Any sms will wake up the phone, the SMS sound will ring, the LED will light until you read the SMS.
Also, because the standby mode is connected to auto-lock, you cannot auto-lock the phone, that means you have to lock it manually everytime you finish use the phone. You can lock quicky by using SPB Shell, and create Lock shortcut in the front panel. Or in any mode, press "windows" logo on the left bottom, then you can see the lock button on the bottom screen.
Cheers!
Personally I've never had a problem with smses.
My previous OS never showed anything besides the icon and sound alert for sms. I never liked my sms appearing on the homescreen.
Current behaviour is that it plays a sound and doesn't wake the device up. So it doesn't activate in the pocket.
You just wake the device and see the sms icon anyway so missing sms is not such a case.
If you set the sms sound as a quite short file, it will always play a sound.
At least it does in my case.
