Hello, I just received my new blackstone that replaced the old one after I dropped the old one and told them It was freezing!
Anyway, I've installed google maps and Tomtom V7.9
Neither of them can get a GPS fix!!
I was stuck on the motorway yesterday and wanted tomtrom to find me a quicker way out of the traffic, but i turned it on and even using QuickGPS and A-GPS it did not get a fix! The settings for GPS receiver were on Inbuilt GPS Receiver, and it didnt pick up any satellites, and I even tried it using other NMEA GPS Receiver using COM4 and 4800 baud rate.
Google maps just kept sitting saying "looking for GPS satellites (0)" and nothing. Not a thing.
Is my blackstone faulty?
Ive done a soft-reset about 5 times but its not made any difference, and I really need the GPS to work!
Thanks for your Help,
mcall_r.
PS. IGNORE THE "I DROPPED IT" IN THE TITLE, I DONT KNOW HOW THAT GOT THERE!
Yeah i was about to say that the fault may be due to you dropping it lol..
anyways follows other peoples advices by turning off A-GPS.
Try GPS Test from http://www.chartcross.co.uk
This normally will find a GPS if you have one.
cheers for the advice guys but when i start up gps test, it searches thru all the COM ports, stops at COM4, then just sticks with a yellow circle and "GPS Starting up" then thats it, nothing else happens, i stood outside in the freezing cold for 10 mins trying to get it to work!!
What else do you think would fix it or do i have a faulty phone?
CHeers
It doesn't, matter, I phoned Orange and they diagnosed it as a fault so are sending me a replacement tomorrow.
Does anyone know what could be wrong though, as one last try?
Cheers
is A-GPS disabled?

Hi, well this does sound like a hardware fault. I don't know but that is my view.
I have not looked for a circuit diagram but I guess the GPS unit might be a distinct chip or block somewhere near the sides of the unit (for the aerial) ?? I guess this might be vulnerable to a hard knock.
Anyway, sounds like you are doing the right thing to send it in.
The one option to explore before you send it is a hard reset (if not already). Since you will lose the data anyway, there's no harm in trying that.
Good luck, D

Any Ideas ?

...and even if the antenna's fix is done, GPS still may have not work properly if weather is worst (ionosphere causes this).
I've seen this post
But It seems that I do not advance to "acquiring..." stage.., seems like i can't even open the driver...i'll try to apply anyway..thanks...
I have same problem as rwainste. But I haven't this problem before than in the service changed display and vibration motor.

Are you sure? Before I sent my acer to service to replace display, GPS fixed after 2-3 minute and worked good. But now after in service replace display, GPS doesn't work.
Apply antenna's fix = lose warranty or no?

If GPS dont work its better to speak with Acer, but if work and just take more time to fix its good idea to make the cut and after that you will lose the warranty
my acer neotouch s200's gps has been malfunctioning recently..
i dropped it once and i think it broke the gps attena... any ideas to fix it or check if its broken?
Read the same antenna modification thread to determine if the antenna is broken.

I don't think dropping will break the antenna, it sticks to the body quite well.
So i bought 2 nexus 4's a couple of months ago (cracked digitizers) and replaced the front frame/assembly with some i bought on Ebay.
They work fine except for the GPS. Both the phones are not connecting to the satellites. I downloaded GPS Status and GPS status and tool kit (or something lie that), tried resetting A-GPS downloading GPD data and nothing works.
I use co-pilot offline GPS and the phone is set to devices only to only use the GPS and not data. Co-pilot never connects with gps.
And both GPs status apps are stuck in "looking for GPS location" eternally. With Fix/Sats always staying a 0/0. I use to get 0/26 or something along the lines, but after resetting A-GPS a couple of times it stays at 0/0.
Since both phones present the same symptoms I started suspecting the front frame/assembly and found this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/nexus-4-gps-fixing-screen-replacement-t2895111
I wrapped the digitizer IC in foil like the guy did and it changed nothing. so i want to try and find some copper tape and layer up the contact points on the back cover in case the antennas don't make good contact. Do you think this might be the problem?
Also i flashed CM 10 on one of the phone in case it was an android problem, but i get the same results in CM.
Any ideas? this is the only thing that is not working on the phones and I would really like to get them working.
Thanks!

It seems it is a grounding problem between the frame, the board and the back cover. Mine is still not working but i had a little success with switching the conductive pads from my old frame assembly. But after a while something must have moved because I am not getting any gps lock anymore. I am waiting on some conductive tape to fix this.

i have a seriuos issue with this device
3 brand new devices all having the same problem with GPS.
it doesn't connect even for a second
i open gps status and toolbox, it recognizes 12 satellites but can't fixate on any of them.
changed gps.conf to the proper continent and country, still nothing.
could this be bad gps module on all of them?
version is v10a-eur-xx
Any, and I mean ANY Mediatek chipsed based phone has issues with GPS, at least in Europe.
This is the sole reason I avoid Mediatek like the plague.
Just Google "Mediatek GPS problem". There are possible fixes, but you have to try them out yourself.
I have the same problema whith my LG H420...
How can i fix it ?
I had the same problem minutes ago. The views may come from a-gps sinse it didin't detect any signal. The problem is that the 3 screws on the bottom of the phone, where the gps antenna is, get loose. I have tighten the screws and... it worked. Now it find singal and fix on sattelites indoor and outdoor.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67805410&postcount=1522
Worked for me, on H440N.
When I Lollipop GPS was wrong , since I upgraded to MM GPS has improved a lot , however, often use the app " GPS Connected" to fix in a stable satellites
I tried everything but it does not set the satélites !
3 screws were tight !
But even then I squeezed more !
what can I do ?? :crying: :crying:
I have tried "EPO Tools free" by eben80 and the connection and stability of GPS is better
Rats, I have the same issue with my h440n ... it used to work now and then before ... like half the time. Recently it sorta worked 1 out of 10 times and now it seems dead completely. Maybe that's due to the fact that I dropped it seriously multiple times and recently even cracked the digitizer big time. I'm NOT with Mediatek so I should be fine, but I'm not. Has anyone else with the h440n had this issue and resolved it successfully? I'm trying to find sth on ebay but other than this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Loud-Spea...478333?hash=item25a70da17d:g:dRAAAOSwv0tVZK2P
I cannot find anything else as a spare part. Not even sure if that one includes a gps module ... just says speaker and antenna ...

The trick with tightening the bottom 3 screws, close to the speaker, actually DID help me. I tightened them quite a bit and that seems to have resolved the issue for now. Big ups to whoever it was that came up with this super easy fix and damn LG ... poor build quality, still an ok phone though, for the bucks.
EDIT: After some testing - the fix worked, as I said, but GPS signal is still somewhat poor. It is enough to get you from point A to B, in a way, but the signal keeps on dropping. It simply won't lock to any satellite gps, constantly loses connection and reconnects again, and then the same again. I've read there are some apps that can help with that. Will try out some. If anyone has a solid one that fixes this, do mention it.
We need to fix it soon, or we forget Pokemon Go!
:crying::crying:

Where exacly have you put tape? Can you show photo of cover?
So I'm having a fairly odd issue.
Sometimes my GPS will work flawlessly. Other times, it is very glitchy and spotty, for example it will only update my location after 15ish seconds instead of continously updating and showing my drive. This is happening in ALL GPS Naviation Apps. I installed my antenna in the same location my old antenna was installed which worked flawlessly. Im unsure why this is having problems. Also my new antenna is not Magnetic. It does not stick to metal.
Any tips? information?
Does anyone know? This issue is getting progressively worse and I have to completely reboot the unit for it to work again and unfortunately the unit goes on standby instead of rebooting meaning I usually have to wait at least an hour before I have GPS again...

I tried one of these, the GPS had problems, sometimes it's 100 yards off when at home, and sometimes it thinks I'm home when I'm 100 miles away. I tried things like clearing the cache in Google Maps and switching location services off and back on again. I wonder if Location Services has a cache that can be cleared. I thought it might be confused by my mobile hotspot, but when I set the GPS for "device only" it switched itself back to "high accuracy". I don't know if "high accuracy" means AGPS or it thinks it's near the location of the wifi hotspot.

I popped the lid and found the shield of the GPS cable was soldered not only to ground, but also to the signal pad for 3G (which I do not have on mine). After reheating the solder and correcting this (by bending the cable away from the 3G signal pad), I am seeing noticeably better results in the GPS Info app. I have not yet reinstalled it in the car.

So I have two questions in this case:
#1 Can we use an External USB GPS Antenna and bypass this issue altogether?
#2 If it was a bad solder, why did my unit start acting right again after I press the reset button?

Sorry but I don't have the answers. Another avenue to consider is replace the new GPS jack with one that accepts the magnetic antenna, the specs printed on the antennae look the same and DigiKey sells the jack with a cable. Currently I have an In-Dash Octacore installed in my car, the GPS goes out every couple of days but it recovers if Location Services are turned off for a few seconds.

Also what advantage does a magnetic receiver have over the receiver that comes with the unit?

I tried the magnetic variety gps antenna, with the corresponding cable. Sometimes it works well, other times not. I'm out of ideas for this model. A USB GPS antenna may be worth trying.
GPS is weird on the new Intel units.

I know that this is a bit late, since you have apparently bricked your unit since this, HOWEVER, it probably isn't a bad idea to discuss this here in case somebody else shows up looking for something like this....
Best/easiest option for external GPS is probably going to be a BLUETOOTH GPS receiver. For example, something like a Holux M-1200. Combine that with some software that can feed the data from the bluetooth gps into Android like this; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mobilej.btgps and you may end up with working external GPS.
A step beyond that would be to integrate it into the system frameworks, but that would be part of a bigger job to bring up AOSP on these things... although, it may also be possible to add this feature using xposed.
Some off topic posts removed. Thanks!

When the unit first starts, it takes a bit to find the GPS. It will find it eventually and then work fine.
Not sure why it takes it some time

I've taken another look at this. I think the magnetic antenna works better than the variety supplied with the MTCD x86 units. With the one supplied I'm seeing GPS accuracy of 50-60 feet, with the magnetic about 20 after a few minutes. The thing about the Intel HUs is once it acquires GPS lock, it looks like it remembers the parameters and is much quicker next time. My unit has basically two modes, on and sleep. In sleep mode it takes about 4 milliamps. Yours may be different if it has a standby mode. Mine comes out of sleep instantly, but takes several seconds for apps to restart. As for the GPS cable, I'm using one with a pigtail termination that solders to the board:
https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/rf-solutions/CBA-SMAF-OP/CBA-SMAF-OP-ND/5845760
If your board is like mine, it looks like it's designed for a board edge connector, but I haven't figured out which one that would be.
I like the app "GPS Test" from Chartcross. When I'm doing well it sees 10 satellites and uses at least half of them, with an accuracy under 30 feet.
Hi Folks
I am having severe GPS issues with my S7 edge. It just takes a lot of time to see the satellites and use them for getting a fix. Could any of the following be the reason for this
1. Phone has moved from USA to India
2. Firmware of phone has change from 935V to 935U
3. Display/LCD of phone has been changed as the earlier one was cracked.
Could any of this have caused an issue ?
Folks any ideas, i am going crazy with this GPS issue. Will replacing the antenna help ? I have tried all the software solutions, its just not able to see any satellite or takes a good 2 minutes to even see one satellite (based of app GPS essentials)

Sounds like something is blocking the antenna or like you thought it's damaged don't happen to be using a metal case Do you?
No not using any case at all. Looks like i will have to open the back again to see if the antenna is placed properly or probably replace the antenna itself.
