Add additional key combinations to keyboard - XPERIA X1 General

Hi All,
Is there any way to add key combinations to the hardware keyboard so I can have a backslash "\" and an underscore "_" ....and maybe some others?
If not, does anyone know whether another country keyboard layout might have these keys included?
TIA

adding to this ideea , would be grat if it would exist key combinations for Wi-Fi(on/off) , Bluetooth (on/off), ON/OFF system settings in general.

It is quite easily to change/add any letter/symbol to the "àü" key. Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447989

Ahm, have a look at my X1ButtonMapper or JKingDev's X1BC

Looked at both and running X1BC right now. X1BC does not handle Fn+Key combinations and X1ButtonMapper re-maps the tab button which, I THINK, may be configurable or changed in a future version of the software.
I think a future version of either will address all my issues but I just need something now......might try the au key solution.
Cheers
EDIT: adding keys with the "àü" key has worked very well and I'll stick with that for the backslash and underscore.....of course I still need X1BC for the "Start" button and the Comm Manager

Having a key combination for "special" characters is Built-In Already!!
Just use the "áü" key!!
i.e. type a "-" then the áü, will give you a "_"
"\ + áü will give you a"/"
BTW if you keep tapping the áü key will cycle through a group of symbols!!

Hey, very good to know, thanks! Are there more of these combinations, e.g. for %, € etc?

I just played around and I found the aü key very useful right now
Still missing % and € though, but I can have that with my X1ButtonMapper and Mortscript. \ and _ with the aü button give me two free FN+key combos, very nice!

As it says in the thread listed above, you can create your own combinations. However, the aü button doesn't seem to work in forms with Opera. I assume a FN+key combo would so when a version of X1ButtonManager comes out that doesn't remap the tab key I might give that another try.

I won't remap another key for Ctrl in X1Buttonmapper other than Tab. The reason is, that I often press tab by accident which is really annoying, remapped to ctrl is only executing anything when pressed together with another key.
In addition to that, Tab is completely replaced by the left and right keys of the DPad since WM5. Also, Remapping SYM is impossible for technical reasons and remapping Win causes many side effects as seen wit XBC.
I wanted to remap Fn+Tab = Tab but that didn't work and I still have to look into it why. X1ButtonMapper might get a small update with that but it may take some time.

Question about Wizard keyboard

Does it has ESC key ?
I hate ppc "virtual" keyboard (default, RESCO, ...) because they cant send ESC key. This is important when you are using "vi" on PocketPutty application.
Or anyone know any virtual keyboard that has ESC key ?
Thanks
From the pictures and the I-mate K-JAM manual it doesnt appear to. Stop using VI, its terrible ;p
no it does not have a esc key
dvoraksip in the SDK does send escape keys (most complete keyboard I've seen, sends ctrl, alt, win key, has backspace and delete etc). But it helps if you can type using dvorak!
You could write a program to send custom keystrokes. I wrote a program once upon a time to send any keycode to current app, and this could be assigned to a hardware key etc. But it's a bit of a waste of a hardware key.
V
Escape key?
Maybe, but I am not sure about Escape key defined in Unicode:

Nor a CTRL key. So a bit limited for terminal applications then!
You can get ^ and [ by using the Sym modifier on the Space key on H and K.
Dunno if that can be persuaded to send the CTRL-[ escape sequence though.

JASJAR: For Easy Use...

another experince that i want to share. to make it easy while using the two keys and the keyboard. you can use Hot Keys for example:
at File Explorer if you want to copy file press menu key then press "i" button then press "C" button.
thats all
NiGhTmArE
Wish they had put a "ctrl" key on the keyboard though. The JASJAR is no use with Putty for controlling *nix machines without being able to do ctrl+c or ctrl+d etc.

I agree, a CTRL key would be useful. Perhaps it's possible to remap a key on the keyboard to perform the functions of CTRL? For example, I never use the caps lock key so that would be ideal. Perhaps I'll look into this, been playing with the .NET compact framework quite a lot recently.
I had a try with AEKMap but it couldn't send the correct key code.
The code for ctrl is 0011

If you could figure this out you'd be my hero. The lack of a ctrl key is bugging me.

Wizard - re-assign keyboard key

Is there possible to re-assign a Keyboard key (maybe windows key that I don't use) to "Sym" key (2nd function on Space key)?
Will be a fast way to input symbols or specific Country caracters like á, â, é, ç, ó, etc... because is only necessary one click instead "function+space".
Anybody know how?
Thanks

I think this program will not work... because is a function key (not a character key)!
Anybody know how?
may be, i understood you wrong, but the AEKmap is able to remap returns on winkey + something pressed, and that is exactly, what you want, isnt it?
look at this part of the aek format reference
; "Win" key scan codes.
; Specify up to four 4-digit hex scancodes to enable internal Win key
; monitoring routine. Or leave it empty to use Win key state returned by system
; Standard keyboard Win scancode is 085B
WinKey
sure, probably you cant assign the symbol key directly to win key, but you have to specify, that
winkey + something = á
winkey + something2 = â
etc.

Is it possible to do a ~ on the Titan?

Is it possible to do a ~ on the Titan? I don't see it anywhere on the keyboards. Is it possible to get an expanded keyboard program anywhere to send that key?
Yes it possible but not easy. Hit function then tab an onscreen menu will pop up scroll down three clicks and there it is. Im posting from my mogul so ill throw one up to ~ , you get all sorts of symbols ™ € № {} § those are a few
Thanks. Anyway to map that to a key?
Diamond Keyboard
Use the diamond keyboard app. and just hold "H" and you'll get it. Much easier.
I have had problems using the tilde (~) that you get from function-symbols for our WEP key, so I usually text it to myself from a PC (verizonwireless.com). Not sure why it is different, but this method always works for me.
on a pc one can get any ascii key by holding down the alt key and typing in the ascii value
maybe it works on pda's too
also, you could hit the function key then Q for the @ symbol, immediately followed by Function then Space.

nice 1, that works

where can i find the underscore _

Hello, i have a little problem.
I would to setup windows messenger on my X1 but i need the _ to compleet the setup. but where can i find the _ on the X1.
Thankz.
bring up the on screen keyboard. its a hassle i know but the x1 doesnt seem to have it mapped on the query keyboard
It works! Thankz.
You can use the àü button (just above the "Sym" key on the hardware keyboard) for this and MANY other characters...
For example type a "-" and then press the àü key and it turns that "-" into the "_" that you wanted...
This also works for $, £, and loads more symbols ...you can even customise it (I set mine up so I have easy access to £ and €...)

thay AU key doesnt seem to do anything for me. do i need to set it up first?
No it should just work ~maybe probs if you've installed a keyboard? or manila ...but fresh out of the box it works automatically
Connect your phone in ActiveSync mode to your computer and open \Windows\sym.0409.txt
That shows you the list ...for each character it shows what pressing the àü key will change it to (you have to press àü immediately after pressing the original key)
You can move them around. Each line is representing one hardware key. Each time you press àü it jumps to the next character on the line in that text file.
Here is an extract of mine -
aàáâäåąãăæ
AÀÁÂÄÅĄÃĂÆ
cçćč©
...
@£$€~
%^
So when I type "a" and then press àü it changes to à ...press àü again and it changes to á ...
So to get the GBP symbol I just type @ and press àüand there you go... I have £
im usign the diamond keyboard. it doesnt do anythign for me when i press that button. dont have anything else installed. ill try to look up that file, thanks.
i tried opening it. it has everything you have and more. however, it doesnt work.
i'm using the X1ButtonMapper software and assigned the Tab+s key for underscore using the command SendKeys("_"). at the same time I assigned the $, %, and + keys to other buttons. it made sending e-mails and SMS a lot easier..
