Does anyone know how to get rid of Weather Icon? - XPERIA X1 General

it really annoys me, i hate it being there because when i go to the start menu it often goes to open opera.
any ideas on how to get rid of it? i dont want weather.

I'd also love to know how to get rid of the accuweather widget. Does anyone know?

If you mean the widget that's part of the two Sony panels, it's tied to the clock being displayed. In options/clock&calendar, choose one of the calendar-only selections or none. Weather will go away, but so will the clock... :/

This weather mania is really crazy. Every launcher must have weather icon, and some can't even switch it off.
And the weather seems to be accurate to actual day, so it basically works as looking out of the window .. sometimes even that is wrong.
You might think it's for underground programmers who never go outside .. but then they don't really care about outside in the first place .. I must know

Weather on HTC clock

I have just updated to the latest ROM and have gone back to the HTC clock now it isn't so sluggish. This incorporates weather but my town isn't recognised. So I just get my town name and no weather. Now on all the weather sites if I put in my town it just has the same data as Norwich so I'd be happy if it showed me the weather in Norwich when I am in Wymondham.
Any way to do this?
Cheers
Same problem here. Any solutions?
For some reason it doesn't seem to like wi-fi, are you connecting via your phone network? It seems a bit of a law into itself though, where I live it seems to update with no consistency, often claiming no data but at other times working properly. On the other hand while out for a drive in the middle of nowhere the other day I notced it was picking up and naming every town we passed, even if they consisted of 3 houses and a sheep!
Yeah, the same thing happend to me. I was driving to my cousin's (50mins drive), it was working beautifully - changing the location and updating. However, at home it's not working at all. At home I use wi-fi, but even when I go to work and switch to my network's internet it's still not picking up anything. Frustrating.
What's annoying is that if you go to the website which the app pulls data from (I'm not sure how I got it to come up right now but it was via the app) it has my town listed, which is what why I thought it might have something to do with data and location marking or somesuch.
On top of this, If I go to town (still in the same area as my phone says my home is) I get the info.
The exact same situation here. I've added my town manually to the list and it's working absolutely fine! Yet the current location (which displays the right name of my town) is displaying no data. So annoying!
So whenever I want to check the weather I have to go to the seperate widget to check and am not able to do that on the clock-weather widget.
I removed the original widget, and added it back with my explicit town, now works fine.
shame the auto-location one doesn't work though.

I can't seem to do this as my actual town is not on the list. Despite this sometimes it shows my town under the clock with the weather yet if I go into the weather widget application is says no data available!!!

annoying; you'll just have to pick the nearest town that is on the list, and put up with the "wrong" name, at least until the main issue is fixed.

What i found worked was leave it on 'current city' when your somewhere that is actually in the list, refresh the weather app and it will show the weather for that area. After that when you get back it keeps the weather up. Well thats what mine has done, where i live isnt in the list either but i know have weather when i didnt when i first turned it on.
Another point on this one, if it can't get any weather details it doesn't show you the date either!
Can you force the weather on the clock to just stay on a city of your choice?

Good question; I've assumed that if you add a city manually, when adding the widget, then it would stay on that city even as you move around. But perhaps it doesn't. Clearly I need to get out more
Didnt work for me. I had to do a data wipe. Worked fine afterwards. Although I backed up my SMS data so I didnt lose anything

I might be blind, but I can't find where you can remove the widget and add it back again?

It's not obvious until you've done it once, agreed
to remove widgets in the Sense UI, you touch-and-hold them for a few seconds, then drag them down to the "Remove" area that has appeared at the bottom, and which turns red when you're over it. Then release.
In the same way, you can move widgets about....
Then, hit the + button, or just touch-hold on the backgroun, to add a widget back.
apols if you knew all this and I've missed the point...

Thanks, but it was my fault. I didn't realise the thread was about the Sense UI. I am running M2D.

refreshing widgets on hero roms?

this isnt a major problem, just something that gets rather annoying. 50% of the time when i scroll to my screen with the twitter widget or weather widget (dont know if its the same for other full screen widgets) i need to refresh them. i dont mean that the data is old, its just blank and shows no data. the widget stays blank until i click the refresh button. it would be nice if the widget would show something...even if i had to click refresh to update it...those blank widgets are kind of annoying.
anybody else experience this or know a work around? i am using modaco 1.51 on a mytouch but this problem has shown up on a bunch of other roms as well.

Suggestions for scene widgets please

Hi Folks
Just wondered if anyone has any suggestions for full size widgets for the hero?
Basically my home screen has clock, weather widget and a couple of other freqently used widgets.Swipe to the left and I have a full page of 16 other widgets.Swipe to the left again and i have a full size music player.Last swipe to the left and i have the full size bookmarks widget. If I swipe right from my homescreen then I have my camera album and thats it! The next two pages are empty
Now i for some reason dont like it I dont like to see the unused space but i'm struggling to find anything to put in them. I dont use twitter and not bothered about the footprints widget.
I have had a search on the net for something but as of yet been unsuccsesfull.
Anybody have any suggestions? Dont matter if its a novelty kind of widget or whatever....I'll give it a look!
Thanks in advance
Gaz
I too currently have an empty page
Mainly due to the fact bookmarks widget is not working on latest build of VillainRom.
Can't think of anything to place on that page at all.
The more widgets then generally the slower the UI and faster the battery drains. If you don't desperately need something there I would leave it blank.

Is this just because there is more on the screen graphically or do the widgets themselves slow it down? I was under the impression that the widgets are only shortcuts to the programs and so obviously use no memory untill launched!?

since widgets are "active" shortcuts they are executed the moment you go to the screen they are on. how would it display weather or news when it is a "dead" shortcut?

The weather widget that i use is the one on the clock so not an independant widget. I just assumed that this one was opened when i first chose this clock and just stays open.
Please go easy on me here as im still getting to grips with the whole 'mechanics' of the phone.
So all widgets that i have on my phone scene are active? Most (if not all) are just executable programs like google maps, google sky maps, shazam, flixter, meebo etc and as far as i'm aware dont require to be constantly updated via internet connection(unless opened).
Why would these be active?
If they are constantly active then why would people use task killers? It seems pointless if they are always active anyway!
Like i said,I'm sorry if this is all a bit basic but would be nice to now how it all works as i have actually noticed my phone seems quite slow lately and for some reason notifications on the top notification bar aren't disspearing when i have read my messages etc.
Maybe i have too many active widgets?!?
Thanks
Gaz
you have to make a difference between a widget and a shortcut to an app. the clock is a clock widget with integrated weather support. it is triggered if you go to the screen it is on and by time change (to display the correct time for example). as it has the weather feature it can also activate the background weather service.
a shortcut is the same thing as those on your windows desktop. it is nothing else than a link to the app, and doesn't do anything until you click on it.
check the way you add a shortcut and a widget, after pressing the + sign you have to choose which one you want to add.
It is a gray area as to what a widget is and not all widgets are active. The weather one is active. So is the one I use to give me London Tube status - as others have said they update as soon as you switch to the window (in fact I thought they did it in the background all the time, but i may well be wrong on that).
On the other hand the widget that switches BT or wifi or GPS on or off are not active unless you touch them then they do what is required (switch it on or off) and then become inactive. In reality they are a little mini-programme in their own right, but they are still called widgets.
Shortcuts are not the same as widgets - all they do is open a programme when touched - so Google maps etc are not widgets they are shortcuts.
I have filled all of my screens - any space left after the widgets is now filled with shortcuts to programmes I use most often. Doesn't appear to slow down the phone at all.

Weather Widget bug? or change fr. 1.5

The weather on the home page with v1.5 you could add locations with a map search. I noticed that with v2.1 the map point location 'tool' is not there. I am trying to load certain locations to my weather and 2.1 version doesn't list any cities like version 1.5 did.
Is this a bug or a change? or am I missing something?
They expect you to know where you want to know the weather or else why would you want to know the weather? Confusing
Confusing, yes
Whether or not I know the weather is neither their business nor mine? I'd rather know whether the weather is more pleasant rather than not, in places i'd rather be....whether here or there.
author unknown. It's better that way.
sorry if I'm wasting time. Thanks to all of you who helped all of us who need "Eris and Android 2.1 for Dummies"!
All punning aside, I love the animations on screen. The rain drops had me nervous the first time they came up. The clouds passing by was neat. I think my favorite is the sunshine's aura.
There are TONS of complaints about the Eris weather widget. It's a flaky one for sure. We have three Eris's in my house and have yet to get all of them to work correctly, in spite of me spending lots of time on the phone with HTC. Mine actually works pretty well right now. My wife's would never display the correct city, but we could get close. After upgrading hers, it showed the correct city for the first time EVER...for a little while. The next day, it would only say "current location".
Sometimes your computer monitor makes a fantastic sounding board. As I sat here typing this, a thought popped into my head on the subject. Just grabbed the wife's phone (and some boob on the way by ) and went into settings>location and found that GPS was enabled, but network location was not. Turned on both and voila`...the correct city name popped up. Check your location settings. That's all I got for ya...I hope it works.

I have another issue with the HTC weather/clock widget. I've reloaded this new ROM 3 times already to see if there was an issue with installing other clock/weather programs but I have not been able to fix it.
On my home screen, the weather shows correctly (current location) and updates much quicker than the 1.5 ROM did.
When I tap the clock, by default it goes to "Desk Clock" Where it shows the time, weather and across the bottom you can choose between the world clock, alarm, stopwatch and timer.
The problem I am having is that the weather in this screen is stuck on Akron, OH. While I don't have anything against Akron, I don't particularly care about the weather there (its 640 miles away). I've deleted the location in the weather widget settings but every time the "Desk Clock" loads, sure enough, Akron, OH weather is displayed.
Anyone else with this problem?

Have you tried deleting the stock widget and then adding the htc weather widget and setting a certain location where you live or current location? When you add the new widget it asks what city or current location you want it to default to. I got tired of seeing it set for 14 or current location instead of the city so I just set it to Baltimore as its the closest major city.
hope this helps

I'm not having any problems with the stock time/weather widget on the home screen. It's the desk clock app that also shows the time. If you tap the clock on the home screen it takes you to the different clock, alarm, stopwatch, timer apps and the desk clock app shows the time, date, and weather. It is here that the weather only displays Akron, OH. My home screen updates as expected and about 5x faster than the 1.5 ROM.

Does your weather app update regularly?

Mine doesn't. I have to manually update it even though I have the weather in home screen. This is stupid. It's there a way to update like hourly?

Yep
How?
How?
Think mine does as well.
There are times I'm not paying attention to the weather and the temperature # will change on the widget without me opening the app and manually refreshing.
Have seen it happen on at least 2 occasions that I can recall. Don't really use the weather app that much in the first place
My weather widget doesn't update. I've heard it might be a bizarre issue where it doesn't update in the EU region. Possibly a GDPR confirmation missed at one point. I didn't want to try this method for my reasons, but you could try setting your phone region to India, for instance, creating the widget and letting it detect your location. If that succeeds, you can revert to your region and the thing should then work, in theory. Let me know if you succeed.
I not working ,you can set up automatic update at night. Between 23 and 7!! Who need update when sleep.
I use Google widget At a glance and its working without any problem. Everyone have it in widget - Google
Only option I have is overnight crap. The weather is so unstable in this part of the world. I need to be able to update at least hourly, automatically of course.
Even if it does update during the night, at 6pm your widget will still be showing weather from 7am
I tried "simple weather & clock" by difer, which almost made it. I realized if you use 3rd party weather app, the time on notification bar stays on, in home screen. Which is annoying because I only want 1 big time shown on weather app that also allow me to access timer and alarm. Who needs 2 of same time shown on home screen? I rather have defect stock weather app, looks neater at least..
I also have the clock always in the status bar. Except for when a notification arrives, or right after unlocking it. It's connected to the default launcher and I'm using the Poco Launcher. I need my app drawer
If you don't want the clock in the status bar, you could use the MIUI clock only widget, and then just a separate widget for the forecast.
