Elf to Elfin - Touch GSM General

hi,
Is it possible to upgrade the ROM/RAM of Elf to make it into a Elfin?
the low memory is one big issue in Elf
J

no.
its better to sell ur elf & add more bucks and get an elfin.
between u can use this cooked rom --> Touch Essential ROMs
chk this thread to know more http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415880
iam also using elf and using this ROM i get 22mb free RAM and 63.65mb free storage memory and my elf is faster than stock elfin
NOTE:- if u done any mistake in upgrading ur ROM u will brick ur phone.

For the simple.....
The Silver Elf is ever elfin or not???
There is a serial number that i must know????
Tnx
wrong forum, the elf is the one above
The difference is basic: memory space.
Elf has a 128M ROM and a 64M RAM.
Elfin has a 256M ROM and 128M RAM.
For my Elfin I noticed a change in model number, it has P3452 visible at bottom of his box.
PD: Maybe this is a wrong forum for that question... but if you wanna help, do it.

These are from my Elf (aka Touch or P3450):
Start Menu > Settings > System > Device Information > Hardware
There, just read the RAM and Flash sizes and you'll know.
Is the amount of RAM/flash the only difference?
Asking because mine says 128/256, but the model number is ELF0100 and on my Windows XP it makes a sync directory named HTC_P3450.
Thanks in advance

Touch or Touch viva?

Hi, i'm getting a new phone in the next few days and there's a lot i would like to know before buying.
i know Touch comes in two models (elf and elfin), and that both viva and Elfin have same rom and ram memory, what other differences are there between the Elfin and the viva and which is recommended?
If i flash an Elf model, will it become as fast and as good as a flashed elfin?
comparing all three of them, assuming they have all been flashed with the latest os (6.5 stable i believe?) are there no significant differences between them?
I wanna know as much as possible because i have the possibility to buy any of them and the difference of prices between them is very little, but the HTC Touch looks much nicer than the viva, and i'm still not sure if the touch is Elf or Elfin (64 or 128 rom and 128 or 256 ram right?)
i'm sorry for this post, i'm pretty sure someone else has already asked all this before but i searched a lot on this forum and didn't found all the answers.
Go for HTC Touch Elfin and use one of the cooked roms here in xda.
Touch Viva has the same hardware as the elfin, the difference is it only has updated WM version (6.0 in elfin vs 6.1 in viva) and has touchflo out of the box.
I recommend using miky's roms or onyx but you must hardspl your device first
Miky's Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541886
Onyx Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426540
or try this rom
Ahen's Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569687
Edit:
HardSPL is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445666
use 3.10
hope it helps
thanks a lot dude... i´ll come back when i have it.
..
So this means that HTC Viva just upgraded the OS to WM 6.1 and change into a different housing?
Do they have same hardware components?
HTC Vivahas changes in hardware Tri-band vs Quad-band but thats the only hardware difference there is and also you wont notice any performance increase since its using the same slow omap850
a regular elf has 64Mb RAM/128Mb ROM
an elfin has 128Mb RAM/256Mb ROM
htc viva = elfin only cheaper
OIC. So It means elfin is ok. which do you prefer?
I purchase HTC touch because of the price and luckily it was the enhanced edition.

Welcome to forums
You must know WM 6.5 runs very slow and takes too much RAM on Universal with 64Mb of RAM (this is the factory original RAM that all Universals came)
You can do a RAM upgrade to 128Mb RAM (if you find a place to do that)
1- You can´t just flash a 128 or 64Mb ROM, you can only flash a 128Mb ROM if you have upgraded your Universal RAM to 128Mb
2. If you want a faster ROM then use a WM6.1 and not WM6.5
3. Read here to find out what is G3 or G4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549207 (post 2)
4. As stated many many times before, there is no such "best version" or "best ROM"!!!
Try them all till you get your best!
Said that..... I have found Tomal 8.2 and 8.5 the most stable ones
Read, Search, Respect and Enjoy!
Good luck,
Thanks for you reply.
I have read the post of G3 or G4 but i don't unterstand very well.
If i put an SD Card the HTC will be use like ram memory?
worth put a ram 128mb the htc will be more better or just a litltle?
Thanks
The SD card is a storage card. You can put your applications and their data files on it (if the apps allow this). I use mine to install many applications and put my music, videos, maps and books on it.
The main memory (64MB for most Uni's) is taken by the OS (Windows Mobile 5/6) and other programs installed there, and also is needed by any running programs. This memory cannot be increased by an SD card. It is common to try and place as little as possible here, especially if you only have a 64MB machine.
Only worry about G3/G4 if the ROM is specific to one or the other. In that case, you need to find out if your phone is compatible with that ROM (read wiki). Most ROMs are compatible with G3 and G4 machines.
Hi jonny
Are you happy with 128MB ram you see the diference between 64MB?
I see you have Radio 1.18 but when my HTC Universal boot i have the Radio 0.0 it's normal it's important update it?

A good start would be to familiarise yourself with your device and its specifications, as well as how things work, actually know the basics beforehand, so to speak.
Yes, there is quite a bit of difference in performance between upgrading your device to 128Mb and keeping the standard 64Mb RAM, mainly in the number of programs the device will be able to run simultaneously, as well as being capable to handle resources-hungry applications.
Your Radio cannot be 0.0, you will not be able to run the device in any capacity other than just PDA, therefore it is important to flash the Radio. There are a few radio versions, you can try them and see which gives you the best performance in terms of signal strength and stability.

Linux?
As far as ROMs are concerned, stay with 6.1.

Hi Cali, I run WM6.5 and Opera 10, so 128MB is much better. I can also run my navigation system and listen to music at same time etc etc, which I couldn't with 64MB. (Having 128MB means you can run memory hungry apps like OperaMobile10, and/or run more apps at the same time). [sorry, as enigma says.. I have just read her replies]
If your radio reads 0.0, it just means that's the stock radio that your device came with. I would only change it if you are having reception/connection problems.
