Youtube favourites - G1 General

Quick question guys. My friends has a G1 and has told me that you can only save 15 bookmarks for youtube. after that any new bookmarks will delete an older one. Is there a way around that. I don't have the device myself, I opted to order the touch pro instead. My friend would appreciate any advice, or alt methods you can advise.
cheers
btw not sure if it makes a diff but its a G1 from T-mobile UK

come on 22 views and no input...

15? My g1 wont keep any everytime i dont go into youtube for a few days then i go on youtube my favorites are gone!!!

me too, i had saved 2 favorites a while ago and they both disappeared, so now i don't bother saving favorites. this is for both the youtube app and the browser...

i just save them on my pc and use the web

for certain people new to "smart" phone you tube is a major selling point. Quite a silly thing to have an issue about...anyway I advised my friend to just use vtap which If I remember worked fine in regards to bookmarks on my PPC

Android Apps for the Vogue Port

It was suggested that we start a thread specifically for the apps that run well on the Android port to the HTC Touch/Vogue. I personally own an (Sprint=CDMA) HTC Touch Diamond, but upon seeing the maturity level of Android running on the Touch, I immediately went to eBay and picked up the Touch handset...and I am glad I did. The only reason I boot back to winmo is for work calendar (Lotus), Skype (iSkoot kinda sucks), and Podcasts (hopefully we getting DoggCatcher soon).I've found that battery life with Togga on to be about 8-10 hours which I can live with it, but it's a pain to keep toggling if you really need to conserve (but it could be worse )I plan on posting more battery data soon, but need a few more days of collection. Hopefully we can find a more permanent way of managing the data connection with balance for battery life.
You can find many apps on http://slideme.org/, AndAppStore (both have phone clients - very market-like) and by searching ".apk" on 4shared.com
The apps I have found to run well on my CDMA with dzo/f00bar's (much respect) latest files:
-Scoreboard - I'm not that big of a sports fan, but this app is slick!
-aLastFM - Just got permission to post the link from the developer. Thanks Oleg!!
-Stocker - Simple but effective stock app, but no graphs. If someone could find a better one...
-Weather - Simple, but effective. Multiple Cities, current and forecast, with menu link to detailed outlook including radar from Undergroud Weather.
-AnyCut -Great for making shortcuts to just about any screen in the OS, especially useful for Battery and Sounds&Display
-TextEasy - for sending a text to multiple contacts, until someone can get a hold of ChomperSMS or K9SMS (K9Mail I have not gotten to work either, we need a better mail app, the native client doesn't even recognize URLS, wtf?!)
-OIFileManager - It's the only one I've tried, so can't comment on the others, but there are several out there. UPDATE: I tried out Astro and Glance. I liked Astro, but after a day it stopped working for me and gives me a force quit. I prefer Glance over OI FileManager, it's on 4shared I believe.
-OIFlashlight - amazing how handy this comes in
-OINewsReader - No frills RSS aggregator
-ShopSavvy - Did you say "We'll match any price"?...but be fast with your fingers, camera is not fine enough to capture the barcode
UPDATE:
I wanted to add SMS PopUp as another great app. You can find it along with a bunch of other APKs here. One of the G1 owners that grabbed all of the apps and is hosting them for download.
WANTED:
-DoggCatcher - for my daily podcast fix
-A true Skype client
-HEADPHONE SUPPORT!!
Please post replies with your own favorite apps that run well on this port (with links, please!)
Cheers!
Wow, no replies?!
I'm looking for SMS PopUp if anyone can post a link.
Cheers!
The Meebo app is well worth a look - look for it on 4shared.com. Lets you IM on just about any IM network (Yahoo, MSN, AIM etc). IMs appear in the notification bar while you are in any other program. Great stuff.
I believe im the only person hosting the meebo.apk at the moment.
Meebo Instant Messenger:

I did recieve the "ok" from the meebo!
thanks

i installed and signed into my MSN account, however, just a white screen shows up. No list of contacts, etc. No menu options other than to add another account or sign off. Not exactly useful (at least this version). Is anyone using this successfully?
EDIT: I received a chat, and that gave me a buddy online, maybe no one on my list was signed on at the time I first checked.
Also, it doesnt remember your username and password, which is annoying because it randomly closed on me after tapping the notification in the bar during a chat session today. I'll keep looking for a better app or updated version.

you might be the only one who got the 'ok' from meebo but as i said, it can be found on 4shared.com also.
What about an updated version of Shopsavvy. Mine keeps saying there is a new version, but of course we can't update off the marketplace.
I'm looking for the Locale application. Even though we don't have GPS running, Locale still alows profile switching based on time and days of the week, which would be useful for office vs. non-office settings. If someone could post this I would appreciate it!

If they are in the AndroidApps folder then they should be installed already. I found that sometimes icons don't show up to launch the program, however. This is where AnyCut comes in handy. Use AnyCut to search in "Activities" to find your app. If you are not seeing it in this list then you may have to "manually" install the app. Open a file browser such as OI File Manager or Glance and navigate to your AndroidApps folder. Click on the .apk file and it should launch teh app installer.
Hope this helps.

Scoreboard.apk
I am very interested in the Scoreboard app, I got it running fine, but the other day the game I added to my favorite never really gave me updates until the game was over by a few hours.
Isnt this application able to provide real-time results?
I am having more success simply by going to www.nhl.com :-S
Thanks for aLastFM!
I was looking around and found another 4shared user with a bunch of APK's!

Someone in the main topic said something about an ebay app. What is it and is it any good? Is it secure? It'd be nice to have for me.
There's been a couple apps I liked that didn't fit our screen plus having to reinstall android files often I lose all my saved info so it doesn't work out for me. Sprint needs to hurry up with an HTC Android phone.
Maybe a stupid question, not sure... Why can't someone extract the android market application from the G1 to be used on other phones? Seems a bit odd of Google to limit the market to only a specific phone.
There is a discussion about the marketplace on the big long forum. The marketplace is not open source. They're talking about the commands and encryption and such for it. I'd think it's not open because they plan on having pay for apps but I could be wrong
G1 Central
This is a must have for any one with a Grand Central account- G1 Central
http://evancharlton.com/projects/g1central
Allows you to place calls and check voicemail for your GrandCentral account. Pretty much allows for unlimited free calling. Works great on my friends G1.
Still missing a few features.. like the ability to call contacts that are only in your GC account, but still very good.
Heres the problem.. it crashes when trying to dial out on the Vogue!!! Ahhh!
So close to beating the telecoms... If anyone knows anything about error codes or how to get this working, I might have a GrandCentral account invite...

I noticed this also. i resolved by changing my time zone in settings. Only problem is that this then modifies your "synced" time with your carrier, it adjusts + or - according to your time zone, so you have to comensate...each time you boot. Not by any means an elegant solution, but if you need realtime scores this is the answer. Probably better off sticking with NHL.com

I tried the "Ebay.apk" from 4Shared, but it doesn't display properly. The tabs extend all the way to the bottom of the other screen which is a common problem for us vogue port users.

Sorting Bookmarks in Stock Browser

Just got my phone last week. Trying to get it configured to my liking.
I keep having to resort bookmarks when I add a new bookmark, restart the browser, or power up the phone. Can anyone confirm if this is the norm on this device? I've tried resetting the browser to default with no change. This is driving me nuts. Great phone otherwise. Thank-you
there is an app in the market that will let you sort your bookmarks in any order. you can also save the bookmarks on your sd card with the app. it's called:
Bookmark Sort & Backup
Re: Sorting Bookmarks
This will work for my needs. I was hoping maybe mine was just faulty as I dislike using apps for something the phone "should" be capable of doing. But yeah, I did buy the ad free app version. Thank you so much for your suggestion.
Yep... This bugged the heck out of me too, especially the way I had to re-sort every time I went into the browser. More annoying was the way it made the full-screen HTC Widget bookmark (which I love, and find is the best and quickest way to get to my favorite sites) always be ordered by most recently added too!
Thankful for Bookmarks S&B, it really solved the issue. Hoping any future Inc updates though will fix this issue. I did notice on the HTC EVO, which is pretty similar when it comes to browser and widgets, didn't exhibit the problem within the browser... if you sorted alphabetically it would stay like that, but it DID exhibit the issue within the widget.
My issue is related to this, but not exactly the same. I just recently got a replacement Incredible, and I want to transfer my bookmarks off my old Incredible to my new Incredible. I've tried to find where the bookmarks file is located via Astro but am unable to locate it. Do I need root to do this? Or am I just not looking in the right place? Any other alternatives?
Someone else will most likely chime in with something simpler. But the way I transferred my bookmarks from myTouch to Incredible was with Backup Pro. I backup everything I need on there, minus contacts.
I'd like to see the ability to create folders like, News, Sports, Technical and put bookmarks in them rather than just have a flat list of bookmarks.
Seems strange not to have what is a common feature in the browser.
SubMatrix, I didn't have any luck backing up my bookmarks with BookmarkSB Pro. It kept giving me an error. It would certainly be a cheaper alternative if it works. I couldn't find anything that says whether you have to be rooted or not.
As for sorting into folders or similar, I believe the solution for that is probably right around the corner. Bookmark-Tree may help something like that.

THinking about moving to android, few questions...

Hi guys and gals,
Im thinking about moving from WinMo to Android. I was thinking about selling my Touch Pro 2 and buying the Galaxy S I9000, while waiting for the real treat Epic 4G come to Europe.
If you could help me with few questions...
I dont use any Google services, no gmail as I rather use myowndomain.com... I want to sync with Outlook via usb; contacts, calendar and tasks... Is there good sync software out there?
The main reason for me to have a brick for a cell phone, is that I dont need always have a laptop with me. This brings me to opening and editing office apps; I found "Documents to Go" that seems to be OK, anyone using it?
To me its also important to automatically sync folders while syncing with Outlook, any good programs for that? Ive been using MobSync with WinMo and I guess it could work with this too? I found also Microsoft SyncToy, never tried it though...
Can I get my tasks listed on Android today screen like on WinMo? I need to have be reminded of my tasks, otherwise I would spend ½ of my day reading at XDA and not doing any of the things Im supposed to do...
Any comments and help is appreciated... Thanks!
i'm myself a WinMob convert.
I also use myOwnInsertDomainNameHere.com for my own business, however i use google apps, and i control my domain via Google.
Google Apps is free and easy to use, you gain all the great benefits, you should consider switching.
You can still use your own Exchange or whatever server you happend to be running, it doesn;t really matter, you don't really need Google to use Android
but using Google, will make the convert a heck of a lot easier, else you'll need to figure out a way to export / import your contact list to your new android phone.
by far the best and easiest way to sync contacts between WinMob and Android is via Google Contacts
you do not need Google Apps for that, just a generic Gmail Account.

I found HTC Sync, but it seems only to sync contacts and calendar.. I read that it should work on Galaxy too. Cant test it as I havent bought the phone yet.
The more I read in to this the more I get the feeling Android is not for me. I really hate any company trying to force me to do anything.

Htc sync works with samsung galaxy s too? Do you have a link to where you saw that? This is one area that piss me off a great deal, that I'm not able to sync my contact and calendar to my outlook on my PC. Had to manually reenter my calendar each time I do a hard reset now, and not all my contact records go over so now I only have partial picture. I have no intention of handing over my private data to the cloud.
http://androidforums.com/samsung-i7500/10804-htc-sync.html
I donwloaded htc_sync_2.0.33, found it right away with google. If you cant find it send me a PM and ill send you the link.
Samsung galaxy is not the same phone as galaxy S, but still it looks promising. Ive no idea how to make it work though.
if you use outlook a lot, you might find that samsung kies is not very good. It have a lot of problem connecting to your phone, let alone syncing with Outlook.
I would assume that if HTC Sync works with one Samsung Android phone it works with this one too...
Android seems like an nice operating system, but I aint about to transfer all my life to google. Im little paranoid like that, I dont think its a good thing to have a company in control of wast ammounts of people's personal stuff.
Dont get me wrong. I have no secrets and I know if someone wanted to they can get my data just as easily even if Im using myowndomain.com, but just the thought that so many people have their personal stuff at Google's servers make me feel little uneasy. Who knows what they decide to do with them in the future.
Glad you're not sleeping. How your calendar and contact could be used?
How about:
- government forcing google to hand this data to them, to find out what you were doing via your calendar?
- criminal taking the personal details of your friends and steal their identity, then commit all sorts of crime with it?
Syncing over the cloud is okay for business I guess. For personal use? No thanks. Nothing to do with whether I've anything to hide.
Yeah and you don’t even need to think about it on the personal level…
The thought of one company having the personal emails, appointments, contacts and everything of millions and millions of people makes me sick. Maybe even whereabouts (using Google maps! Haven’t looked at it, but I would assume they have the access to this info too)
Just knowing the greed people have, I see this type of thing bring problems in the future. Im not saying Google has a hidden agenda now, but who knows what and who will be running the operations in 15 years or something.
I don’t mind Google selling their operating system that has an option to use their services, but when they make it mandatory, there’s a problem.
Even if google is really not evil, what's there to stop evil people from hacking into their server? Google couldn't stop the Chinese and Russians from doing that in the past, and certainly won't be able to in the future.
I have a winning bid on Galaxy S closing soon... I made it yesterday before really reading about the android enough... I kind of hope that I wont win it, I probably only have to sell it if I do.
But if not android then what? WinMo7 seems to be a failure in many ways what I have read about it (which is not much though have to admit and I could be wrong)
I really hope Nokia gets their act back together and make their Symbian^3 / Symbian^4 operating systems GOOD... I read that Nokia made a deal with Microsoft to start having Office on Nokia phones, that with the real FREE navigation (Google maps is not free navigation, you need data, when out of your own country your better off hiring a personal chauffeur). If Nokia makes good hardware with the things mentioned above, they could be on their way again... If not, I dont know... The idea of using WimMo 6.5 much longer does not feel like a reasonable choice either.
Uhhhh, I am the proud owner of a new Galaxy S

Congrats! and welcome to the club
yes, WM7 sucks big time, i saw videos of it, it was all over the news yesterday.
and WM6.5 is not that great either if your device is already on WM6.1 it's just some interface change, and API coding change.

Haha. You know that will start a war here. Just check all my previous posts.
Haha ok, iPhone... Well I want to use Office and also like I wrote before, I definitely want a HV keyboard and was just thinking of getting Galaxy S as a temporary phone before getting the Epic 4g when it arrives to europe.
Im not a MAC person... I feel their products are mainly for people who really dont know how to use computers etc. I bought an iPod for my girlfried for x-mas sometime ago... I dont get that, it makes you to sync everything with itunes, haha, well I would prefer drag n drop the album I want to my player. Now that she's getting annoyed by iPod/iTunes all her albums are in iTunes and i dont know can she get them back to normal mp3 anymore.
I think this is so funny and there is a small truth in it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7yD-0pqZg
Congratulations for winning the bid anyway, hope you like it. BTW, have you really owned all those truckloads of phones before ? Hahaha, which one had the longest life?

HD Touch HD Questions

Hi, I've owned this phone for a couple of weeks now and though id give it a good test and check forum answers for as much as I could before asking but still have a few questions
1. Whenever I get a text or email, even if i have read it on the quickview (first screen) it will remain as unread until i click on it and bring up the reply screen (messages) or the full inbox view (emails) can they be registered as "read" automatically without doing the above?
2. Is the endless pursuit of Flash player actually worth the effort, I've had opera 9.5, 9.7, 10 including flash lite 3, used the fixoperaflash application following word for word and still dont get flash on websites. My latest try is 9.7 and fixoperaflash and I am yet to see a working flash video. Only difference is when I go to you tube now and click on the video it loads the inbuilt youtube app and somehow forgets what video I was wanting to look at, also the "bookmarks" button has screwed up now and takes me onto the net where it crashes and wont allow exit.
3. Can I deny networks, sometimes It will come up with a list of networks im not interested in seeing or it trying to connect to eg. I have two open networks at work, one works fine for wi-fi the other doesnt. Sometimes I catch it connected to the none working network and have to manually connect to the one I want
Answers to any of these questions would be much appreciated
Thanks
Stew
