How do I know if my HTC is locked (simlocked) or not without another Sim?

Hi,
I've bought a HTC Magic from Rogers. From the internet, it seems that some ppl were saying Rogers did not lock any smartphone, but most said it does.
I've tested with my wife's Fido Pay-As-You-Go SIM card, it seems to work. So either my phone is unlocked or Rogers and that Fido prepaid card are sharing the same lock-code.
Anyhow, without any other tools, how can I tell/test if my phone is simlocked or not?
Thanks,
Gary
The Rogers phones are locked. Fido, PetroCan Mobility and Speak Out are all virtual network operators that run on the Rogers network so their SIM's will work in a locked Rogers phone.
You need a non-Rogers SIM (like from a new Bell or Telus phone) or a US or European SIM. As soon as you pop it in it will tell you your locked and will ask you for the unlock code.
Phone won't run home screen but instead will ask for "unlock code".
And unless you give it you can't use the phone for anything (you can't even check any menu, settings or anything).

How to flash HD2 to Cricket?

I tried searching everywhere and still no answers.
Does anyone know if it is possible to flash the Htc Hd2 to cricket or metropcs.
they are network providers, so i assume you mean unlock the phone to use them?
no flashing will not do that. you would need the network unlock code, however isn't metre cdma? if it then the hd2 cannot work on it.
Yes as long as the network uses GSM (sim cards )
So theres no way htc hd2 can be turned into cdma and be flashed to metro or cricket?
you cannot flash a phone to unlock it. as stated above you need the unlock code, you can get this from your network provider for approximately £15 just tell them you are leaving the country for a holiday and want to change your sim card to a local network sim card in the other country (to get a better rate). If you would prefer you can easily unlock your phone on the internet, again for aground £15-£20, just search on Google.
as for your other question about cdma im not to sure.
re: cdma i'm only 95% sure but i think you're out of luck, i think its a whole different hardware.

Does Flashing Phone Make it Usable on Other Networks?

Good afternoon / evening,
I have had my HD2 since new and have a custom ROM and Android running on it now. Unfortunately my employer required me to change service providers and I was wondering if it would work on AT&T or similar. I know that Sprint wont' work, but AT&T is what I'm looking at.
If flashing the phone a custom ROM does not unlock it and free it up for other networks, can someone please direct me on how to do that?
Thank you
No, you either need to ask Tmobile for an unlock code or use another unlock code service.
Yup, like juggs said, you either need to call T-Mobile and ask them for the SIM unlock code, or use an external service like from ebay or the like to get it unlocked. Most of the unlocking services are about 15USD so it's not a huge deal.
yes the phone will work on ANY GSM provider once it is unlocked. 3G isn't gonna work due to ATT using different band

[Q] Rooted OK but how....

...do I unlock the phone now that Android is installed?
Should I have done a SuperCID on it when Windows was still installed, or is there a way to do it now, too?
if you mean sim/network unlock, its completely unconnected to roms/flashing/hspl or any of that.
there is no free unlock, you can only get it unlocked to other networks by getting a code off your provider, or paying for one from teh many companies that offer the service.
So, what happens when you stick, say, a Vodaphone SIM in a T-Mobile HD2?

Click to collapse
The phone asks for a code if it's sim locked. If it's unlocked, then it will detect the sim card and connect to Vodaphone's service. The only thing that doesn't always work is 3g data, if the new network doesn't use the same frequency bands as the carrier the phone was made for. Like if you put an AT&T sim in an unlocked TMOUS HD2, you can make calls and use 2g data, but 3g won't work.

free sim unlock ozone verizon GSM??

theres a free way to get unlocked my htc ozone??... and im not able to get the code from verizon (USA) 'cause im not in that country anymore.. i was searching and i only find expensive sellers =\
You might be out of luck b/c VZW (sometimes, AFAIK) changed the HTC default lock code for the GSM radio (SIM card) for global use - unless that orange Vodafone pre-installed card is still intact & possibly activated for roaming use with oversea carriers.
I paid for one of those eBay sim unlock code & it didn't work, called into VZW global support/tech help desk & agent had to lookup the code in their database and walked me thru the steps to unlock & reboot the phone, etc.
Depending on what country you are in & 3G bands use, you might not even get 3G coverage, just Edge - wifi still work - you might want to look at other options for a better smartphone.
BTW, I still have mine & keep it as a spare/backup on AT&T GSM and as wifi device, and set it to Airplane mode as a MP3 player.
Sorry, it's probably not the answer you are looking for & NOT being a customer, they will not give out the code.
