Winzip memory overflow - P3600 General

Trying to use winzip to unzip a document on storage card. While unzipping a large temporay file was created in phone memory. Result, phone RAM blocked to the maximum.
I cannot find the temp file to erase it, even exploring it from the PC.
(1) Any hack to get rid of this problem?
(2) Anyway to tell winzip to use the storage card instead of the phone memory
(Of course, I had selected unzip to storage)?
Thanks for any info,
MS

You can fin it here

Downloading large files in pie to sd card

I sometimes download podcasts when i am out and about but it just seems to hang after a few minutes and never completes the download. I assume that this is because the files are bigger than the internal memory i have available on the device. Does anyone know how to download files to the sd card rather than the system memory
Cheers
Chris
hi, in my experience, when you click a link for download a window appear that ask you if you want to change the the file name and where to save. and I just chane it to storage card. didn't your universal do this? i've just downloaded a 12MB file with my universal and saving it to my storage card. the largest file I download was a 32MB file.
In my experience, the file being downloaded in pie is actually stored in a temporary file on the main storage memory, and then moved to whatever destination you required. There's no way around this, unless you your a download manager-type app.
This is just *my* experience, though. your mileage may vary.
I have downloaded a 432 MB file in my storage card with PIE...

Tips to free up precious RAM

Install Tweaks2k.NET on your handheld,
(1) You can move some .dlls automatically from \windows to your Storage or SD card. However, you don't get to choose which dll to move. Program analyses and does it all for you. There is an UNDO button.
- best to do this when you install one program at a time so you can test and UNDO one step at a time.
Use Resco Explorer for ease of use (make sure that 'Hide hidden files including the ones in ROM' option is selected)
The folder of interest is the \windows
(2) You can move help files to your SD card
.htm files
(3) You can move .unload files (for uninstallation) to your SD card
- but remember that when you want to uninstall an application
eg. MortPlayer, you need to copy back the file MortPlayer.unload to
\windows to uninstall it
(4) You can move \windows\appmgr files .dll to your SD card
- if you want to uninstall or reinstall an app, remember to move that
specific app .dll file back to \appmgr
Install Valksoft Space Reclaimer
(5) set it to run at every soft reset. It will autoclean your temp folders, ie folders, old files and registry during startup.
I managed to free up at least 5MB using those steps. My RAM is pretty much trimmed although I was a bit peeved when the MMS software took up 3MB of RAM (I tried to install on the SD card, but the files need to be installed in RAM).

Free up more program memory...

It seems that more program memory can be freed up by using Total Commander's Copy function to copy renamed files (smaller size) to Windows folder to replace stuff you don't need. After reset, the smaller size files stay. I hardly use ppt 1.2Mb, so I replaced it with a 5k exe file. The Clearview pdf app 65kb is useless... and I did the same for a few other tsk/gif...etc files.
With the latest jarsar rom 1.30.68WWE & Radio 1.09, got rid of most junks from extend rom, cleaned up the Windows folder, now got about 31.12Mb program memory. The speed seems pretty good.
If I install the new ROM, will I have to do a hard reset and install all the applications again.
I have previousl used the ROM unlock tool.
Will the new ROM install OK.
Thanks
Steve
Yeah... will need to repeat the process after a hard reset.
Can just save all those faked renamed files in a folder and then copy all to Windows folder one go.
Not too troublesome...
You will not recover any memory since those files are in ROM.
However, you do have a point in "replacing" large files with smaller versions - the device takes less time to search for the program icon.
Result of the clean-up of unneeded files in Windows folder by copying faked reduced size files into folder:
Both are after a soft-reset measurement -
Before: Program memory 30.41Mb Storage memory 36.64Mb
After : Program memory 31.07Mb Storage memory 38.20Mb

Memory problems in my jade

Hi need some help.
1. what is the defrence betwen program memory and storage memory.
i got on my jade 56% program memory and 91% storage memory.on the storage card i'm ok.
2. where can i see what files are in the storage memory as 91% is very high i dont understand whay it went up to 91% last a i saw it was around 60%.
most of my programes are in the storage card.
thanks in advance.
Storage Memory - The amount of memory allocated to data storage (pictures, notes, docs, music, .tmp etc)
Program memory - The amount of memory allocated to program storage.
Some programs load and build up hugh files in storage memory as time goes on, e.g. you tube. Do a clean up once in a while.
You can use file explorer (or TC or Resco) to see the files.
thank you azahidi
i have resco explorer but where can i fined under which folder/s i find files that i do not need. is there some application to do a clean up. any idea will help.

One very good apps is Memory Maid (purchasable from i/net). You can also use some freeware apps e.g. ClenRAM and some others.

Resco should be able sort out the file size descending/ascending. Then it's up to your own judgement (need a bit of file mgmt experience). Anything that's outside \windows or \program folders are deletable if/when not required. Avoid meddling with files in \windows (if you're not familiar). even though some can be deleted (e.g some .wav files). Just to be save before deleting (if needed) copy the files to your SD Card in case you wrongly delete.
There's this file in my windows folder which is a massive 16MB, called "mxip_initdb" anyone know what it is?
