ok a soft reset fixed it! but im not sure if i lost anything :?
Hi sundip,
I guess you won't have lost anything, normaly on a soft reset you only loose data if some files had been opened and where not saved (like word documents or something else - some navigation programs go sick on softresets while they're working...) when resetting that way.
The stuck bubble might have to do with one of your apps on your today screen. Sometimes those programs don't refresh the screen right, wich results in strange behaviors with overlayed windows or bubble notifications.
HTH,
BGK
Reset button behind back cover??
Not good
But not a no-go item, just a minor irritator for people that fiddle with the software a lot
A normal user almost never needs to reset.
....and soft reset most of the times anyway....
PsShutXP will do the work from screen ( besides any major stucks)
And this could be seen like a security feature, as it's no more accessible to the eye from now on.

I tought that it is a standard, after installation of a new app you always must do a softreset to let it work properly!
If thats a fact, many people get frustrated when they will install a lot of new app's. And I think they will!
I hope the extra feature (soft reset) in SPB Mobile Shell 2.1.2 will work to.
Someone tried this yet!?

It has been reported in the topic 'Programs/Utilites & Games ~ working on the Touch HD' Mobile Shell has problems with the Touch HD.
The drop-down menu's do not work.
Beards
Another Way
There is a quicker and easier way to reset - hold down the power button for a few seconds. You'll get a prompt about saving work but OK that and the device will shut down fully. If you wait another few seconds you can power it up again - seems to have all the benefits of a restart without the hassle of taking the back off.
There's another method for a reset:
Shutdown phone, Push both Volume up and Volume down, push Power button.
Wait till phone sais its resetting on screen.
No need to use the reset button (or whining and biotchin)

And what is wrong with just shutting down and starting up your device? that has the same effect. I have installed quite some applications and most of them offer a soft reset at the end anyway...if not, I just switch the device off and back on...faster than taking off the battery cover first.
I would highly recommend WkTask Manager
Besides providing a soft-reset option directly from the "X" or Close/Ok button, it is highly featured and way better than HTC' X Button.
Regards,
Carty..

Yup. It works
And don't forget, the best way to do a soft reset, without the fear of not loosing data, it's to press 5 secs on the power button. One should only try the reset hole on a last chance!!!

How about the drop down menu problems than!
FDCSofts TM has a soft reset action from the main menu
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php?soft=1612
PHM Powertoys...
Has a reset function. There's a shortcut icon included so I dragged this to my "Programs" tab in manila.
its free too, although written in 2004!

I've been using this one for years. It works well.
I have to say though there are times that nothing else other than a soft reset will do.
How about drilling a small hole in the back cover? And perhaps sticking a piece of rubber sheet on the inside of it to prevent dust getting in, but still allowing you to use the stylus to hit the reset.
I assume the back cover is made of sheet metal? (I'm still patiently waiting for my contract to run out! )
Or you could try A-A reset manager - search on the forums for it
Are there any other ways to do a soft reset without opening the back cover? Given how often a soft reset is required (or at least advised), I'm concerned for the longevity for the little hooks on the plastic back plate that hold it firmly in place...
EDIT: I am quite good at answering my own queries today - as suggested, A-A Reset Manager is a nice little app that seems to do the trick, just run it when you need to reset (or schedule a regular reset - eg overnight). After some searching, I found it here:

Petrov.
I noticed that the SPB panel has a soft reset button under "tools".
Is it possible to get that in the launcher rows for Sony Ericsson Panel 2?
I wonder where the link/program is located?
Or is there a program/.cab that can be downloaded?
Everytime I search "soft reset", I get so many irrelevant post/threads.
Thanks in advance!
I don't understand why would you need it. Turning the device off and on again will do the same. And if the device is locked and unresponsive, launcher icon wouldn't help you.

cause it's a pain in the ass to have to switch panels to the spb panel, just to reset the phone.
I understand, what the op is talking about, I was going to look into a solution.
I use phm soft reset. Simple app and it's free. I don't remember where I got the cab, but just google for it.
I agree with the OP. I just prefer to press a shortcut instead of waiting for the phone to turn off and turning it back on again and this way you can put it anywhere you'd like. I keep mine in the start menu, even though I have at least five other ways to do the same thing on my phone, this is the only reset that I use.
edit: Smaberg's actionscreen is great too as it has both soft reset and power off (along with a ton of other useful functions) in an easy to reach place, but I still use phm for plain old soft resets. Highly recommend taking a look at it though.

thanks jhoffa for the link!
thanks mrbkkt1+jhoffa for understanding!
Dr. Sid, I am asking for something like this not because I want to reset when the X1 stalls. It's when I'm using it on the move and I only want to really dedicate one hand to the unit.
People can say I'm lazy, but I'm looking for some convenience. Convenience, isn't that what we're all after when we bought a beautiful unit like X1?
I use also phm soft reset. Anyway, there's a reset button under the cover battery on the right, for me it's the easiest and fastest way
Use smaberg's power button add on. It's here in the forum.

lol, the battery cover is the last thing I want to deal with.
Some people say it falls off from use, but mine seems like a pain to remove and it's actually the most "least liked" physical part of the phone.
Thanks all for the tips, I actually have phm soft reset and smaberg's power button add on.
Smaberg's power button add on, makes it feel like a true SE machine
Yeah you just take the battery cover off take the stylus out and you should see a hole to the right of the battery in which you can press the stylus into and your phone will soft reset
The battery cover is the worst part of the X1. I'm almost breaking my nails trying to open it. I wonder why didn't they put the soft reset button somewhere outside the battery area.
@Hisatsu, I have that in my launcher.
What I did - go to Windows/Start Menu > Copy "Reset PPC" > Click Programs > Edit > Paste Shortcut > Go to launcher and add it in.
somehow the zoom bar on my htc touch2 stopped working! this means that i cannot zoom in/zoom out to take a pic and i cant adjust the internet browser's size! help anyone??

Hi!
I was stupid enogh to install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6594359#post6594359 since it read "Manilla 2.5", not noticing it was for Touch Pro2.. Now my Hardkeys have died and I have to restart my phone (battery in and out) each time the screen shuts down.
Anyone got a resolution to this? /: Been searching with no luck for some time now ):
Thanks in advance!
EDIT:
I got a response from the authour of the app. that uses this and it reads:
"Goto to Start/Settings/System and you will find there the Keyboard Config.
- Open it and you should see ther the Home key created.
- Press and hold on the top of the "Home [10"] and a small menu should popup.
- Hit remove and than update config.
- You should also remove the dotcompt TP2 Start Menu Hardware key remap.cab.
- Soft reset"
I got no key-values in the list.. and I cannot add new keys (the app says I should press a key and release it to set it, but nothing happens, no reaction)
Is there something similar designed for the HD2?
Hi guy, wich key doesn't works?
You have uninstal the cab for remaping? You try AE Button?

Same problem
I'm having the same problem. None of my hard keys are working at all. Touch screen controls are fine. Tried going in through "System", then Keyboard Controller, but it says wrong drivers are installed :/
Bad mistake to use soft from TP2 topic
AE Button is a tools to remap Key, but it works only for WIndows and Green Button

Installed and tried that AE app now, still dead.
Oh, the volume buttons are also dead.
Well, I guess I'll have to wait a couple of weeks and just live with it until I'm ready for a hard-reset of my device.. a couple of days worth of work modding it back to what it was earlier today ><
Sorry guy :/

That, I know all about, after a couple of years in cust. service for mobile d: contacts and messages are luckily saved through Windows MyPhone <3
I fixed this issue. Go into your REMOVE PROGRAMS screen and delete the application that has KEYBOARD Controller, or something similar to it. I noticed it on my list of applications and did not recall it being there before. I removed it, then performed a soft reset and all was back to normal afterwards.
