Keyboard request - P3400 General

This may seem like a silly request, but I really struggle to type on the QWERTY keyboards because they so small. If I'm in the car etc, it becomes very difficult.
Would it be possible to get a predictive (T9, I think) keyboard for typing messages etc?
Basically like the dialler, but with predictive text like regular phones...
Hope this makes sense

I am aware of the predictive text, but as I said, I DON'T want a qwerty keyboard... I want a 9 button keypad, that works like all regular cellphones with T9......................

Somthing like this...
I'm looking for something like this:
http://www.o3touch.com/
This actually works really well accept, instead of predictive text, you hold the key down to get the next letter & it works as an application for sms & dialer only.
I'd like something like this but as a universal keyboard that can be used throughout the phone

You're a legend mate! Thank you.
Unfortunately, this one doesn't seem to be working too well on my device (P3400, running LomLom's rom with Manilla2D)
At first, it would only input numbers and after a reboot, it doesn't input anything.
But I did find this one that works like a dream:

oops, newer version of Coo Tek:

TapTap Keyboard - write without stylus!

Hello all,
maybe many of you tryed my previous application for SMS writing TapTapSMS and maybe you like this new way of text inputing. So here is NEW native SIP (software keyboard) for your PocketPC (all resolutions - WM5, 6, 6.1, 6.5 and 6.5.3). I must mention that you must get used to this new technology because it differs a lot from the classic PC-like input method. It's because standard PocketPC (without hardware keyboard) differs a lot from the classic PC. So enough about it... try it!
P/S: It chanced that I found a THIEF who stole my technology without any word that I'M THE AUTHOR OF THIS UNIQUE TYPING METHOD: http://tikilabs.com/app/tikinotes/
UPDATE1: VGA version available
UPDATE2: New black skin!
UPDATE3: Fixed missing equal char ("=") and some other chars added.
UPDATE4: Fixed uninstall problem.
UPDATE5: Now supporting custom layouts and skins.
UPDATE6: I have added new US/German optimized layout to customize section.
UPDATE7: Added two new panels (navigation panel & basic operations panel).
UPDATE8: Added HVGA version.

bkf1,
i tried ur keyboard and find its the right screen size. only thing i don't like its the repetitive taping to choose a letter. it would be better if u make one tap and give options kinna like T9.
Hi, idea is quite interesting. Is possible to create it as SIP? So it's usable with others programs, not just writing SMS?

I'm sorry. It is SIP. At first I clicked at TapTapSMS link. Really good work
right, as a SIP and with word completion/suggestion/correction and skinning it would be very nice. I write a lot on my device but hardly any SMS

UPDATE: VGA versions (low/high resolution) available!
please a request
can someone put a cab file here? thanks in advace
I have already downloaded them If you want VGA version with high-res graphics you must download it from my site Use any downloader (e.g. Download Accelerator, DownThemAll (Firefox plugin), etc.).
New black skin... !!!
Big BMP images replaced with small PNG images... so now it's smaller especially the VGA version...
I'll try this out and report back. Thank you.
It's freezing Sorry to you all I must replace it with previous version
UPDATE: Fixed uninstall problem.
Suggestion
I like your app.
i suggest that after tapping a letter i prefer that we stay at the same group of letters and if we want to change another group we tap on the back button thanks.
While long-term testing I have found out that I need to use chars from other char panels more frequently than from currently selected char panel. Anyway thanks for your suggestion
thanks for your answer.
Great idea but I must admit I had thought of a similar method myself but lack the time or patience to implement myself, so I figure i'll see if you want to do anything with it
Same idea, click on a group of letters and it brings them up larger, but instead of grouping a,b,c,d,e etc into 1 group, why not group it as it appears on a standard keyboard? it'd be more intuitive for most people as the same keys are found in the same general area as a normal keyboard...
So have what looks like the normal WM keyboard on the screen, but have thicker lines seperating the different groups. So left of the keyboard can be the letters q,w,e,r,a,s,d,z,x then have t,y,f,g,h,c,v,b,n as the next group followed by u,i,o,j,k,l,m or something along those lines? Basically it has the user looking for certain keys in the same places as there already used to.
It's just a thought but a good one I think personally though others may not agree
It is definitely very precise.
While I like this aspect of it I do like the idea of a qwerty layout however.
Believe me I have tried the QERTY layout (btw there are only 7 keys, the 8th is for ENTER) but typing with it is very hard to learn (remember a,b,c,d,e,f,g it's much more easier than e.g. q,w,e,r,t,y,u). It's because this keyboard HAS NOTHING COMMON with the other keyboards. This is completelly new original type method.

who uses the standard keyboard?

there are a zillion keyboard out there but no of them seem to be right for me, i like the standard one since i can type way faster with the standard wm keyboard, but i just wish it was a tad bigger. there is a way to make it larger but that removes the number buttons from the top keyboard and i'd like to keep them.
so my question is to everyone, (i know there are some that prefer the good 'ole standard keyboard) is there any possible way to make it larger?
i was searching and while this one looks a little bigger, it has the same layout as the standard one:

im not even sure where to get the keyboard in the pic above it looks around the same size as the standard keyboard but the buttons look a tad bigger.
can anyone help increasing the size of the default keyboard?
you can try Resco Keyboard or ZoomBoard if you haven't already, they use the default keyboard as a basis (stuff like gestures are the same), then expand. Otherwise, no, the keyboard in your picture doesn't have big buttons, it's just a keyboard skin (I think it's from Marshall of MarshallWaitCursor fame)
maybe it being a picture makes the keys look bigger..
if it can be skinned, i will figure it out... i wasn't aware the keyboard could be skinned.
I mainly use the slide down keyboard on my 8525, but when Im to lazy to pull it down, I use the HTC keypad to quckly send some texts.
For texts i use Phone Pad, which works quite well as a T9 input system, not yet found a full QWERTY one i can use reliably with my thumb and that my Trinity will consistently open. There is a known issue with Trinitys and alternate SIPs.
you should be able to make them a little bigger if under options you chose large keys (you can even keep the number row if you chose to use gestures). they're still pretty small though.
You can find that keyboard skin over at Marshall Skins Site & it's called
(Marshall Keyboard Skin) - Crossbow
http://www.marshallskins.ilbello.com/php5/htdocs/downloads.php
PocketCM keyboard is like the standard keyboard but bigger. Works very well for a full-sized qwerty keyboard on a small touchscreen device.
Well if you haven't already, try Touchpal. I have a mogul and use touchpal instead of the slide out. I love it!!!

EasySMS - new finger friendly SMS app

Hi All
Did a search of the forums and didn't see anyone post anything about this new SMS program, so thought I'd post it here as a FYI for everyone.
It's another replacement SMS program, but the difference is that this one actually looks very finger friendly.
Currently it's FREE to download because it's in Beta. Use the link to the company's website below to give it a whirl.
Haven't tried it myself yet, but will do so when I get home and sync it onto my X1! And no, I'm not affliated with them.
Features: (Copied and pasted from their website)
* Big (fully customizable) fonts for convenient reading in all circumstances
* Easy and comfortable single-handed text input without any need for the stylus
* Fully customizable automatic standard replies with one single on-screen button
* Snooze function to remind you again at a more convenient time
* standard SMS inbox/sent box still functional

Many thanks for the heads-up. This could be useful as I am struggling with the minute font of my current SMS application.
WB
Just installed and tested it. Like the look of the application; however the digits for input are still too small for finger or one handed use. Could not find a predictive text option which was a real pain.
Also wiped all my data out of my text inbox but left subfolders untouched. Have had to restore from a backup.
In summary a good start but a lot of functions to iron out yet in this beta.
WB
Tested it on my Niki.
Slow as hell, especially with hardware keyboard entry mode.
At this stage barely usable... I went back the default texting after few tries.
will try it and give a feedback later on...
Thanks for this!
I can report on my Universal works great!
Bug I found:Every time I open the app, keyboard is enabled, even if I deselect it. (ON my Uni I really dont need a virtual kb)
Gracias!

Did you turn off the built-in keyboard under the *Edit* tab? On my X1 the onscreen keyboard *doesn't* come back up after I've deselected it.

Really? I've got it installed and it hasn't touched my SMS messages at all. EasySMS doesn't actually even seem to read from the outlook sms database because I can't see any of mine when I use it.

Yeah I agree - conceptually it's great, but needs some work. I'll definitely keep an eye on this and post any updates as they come.
What annoys me most is that there doesn't seem to be a way to access the Contacts address book... I'll wait until they release a version that does. Either that or Inbox Central starts working in WVGA and can write sms
This app is now out of beta and is no longer free for download! Anyone tried it, and would like to share their experience???

SwiftKey Beta is out (IME)

What is SwiftKey?
SwiftKey brings the future of text entry to smartphones. It uses TouchType’s breakthrough Fluency™ technology to predict the next word you want to type, before you even press a key.
Fast
With SwiftKey, your next word is predicted with such incredible accuracy that a third of suggestions are right first time and usually you won’t need to press more than two letters.
Accurate
SwiftKey uses advanced error correction, meaning grammar and spelling errors are a thing of the past. Typing with SwiftKey produces text you can rely on, in a fraction of the time it takes on a regular QWERTY keyboard.
Intelligent
SwiftKey doesn’t just predict regular words – it learns as you type and remembers how you write. As words and sentences are chosen over time, its Fluency™ engine creates a dynamic understanding of your writing style to boost the accuracy, fluency and speed of prediction.

But is it really that much better than the HTC keyboard? I'm not a fan of Swype to be honest. I like tapping much more, especially since I don't always use standard words, which can be annoying with Swype then.
Download:
1. Search for it on the android market.
2. Or use this QR Code:
Thanks for posting this.
I have to say Ive just tried this and it seems very good. Might be my favourite so far out of the Stock keyboard, HTC Mod, and Swype. Time will tell though. Only wrote a few texts with it, but it does seem quick.
So far, I quite like it.
I wish it would stop inserting spaces after punctuation and word selection though.
Other languages than English are supported ?
I like it a lot, also because it can learn from your sms history and HTC IME mod is extremely poor in dictionary.
So far it's working ok, but it needs some fine tuning in the interface and it allows just one language for now!

Was blown away by first message... typed a full sentence and only had to press the first letter of a few words and space bar the rest.
Have been using BetterKeyboard for a while now, but SwiftKey immediately outdoes it's prediction and easier to select other words. Hopefully this takes off and skins are developed etc... keys felt a touch smaller than BK.
edit: "I love you." = , [space], [l], [space], [space] - still has the same meaning

Not that I know about. I uninstalled it quickly after. I still love the Sense keyboard more.
With Sense you can type something like:
gey, egat ere yuu diing ronught?
It will actually manage to fix it to:
hey, what are you doing tonight?
Well, as long as there is no multi language support for this keyboard I will have to switch back to sense too. But I have to say the the Swift keyboard is the best keyboard I tried until now (besides the original keyboard).
Greetings,
Thomas
it' cool very cool.
But it's very boring that add a space every time.
If I want to add a three point I have to cancel the space.

Stock Keyboard: Long Press for Numbers

I'm sure i'm missing something here..
I can't get my Nexus 7 stock keyboard (stock OTA 4.1.1) to longpress the top row and get numbers... eg: Longpress 'Q' to get '1'.
It doesn't show the small numbers on top of the keys either.
Have tried changing some setting, I also tried changing keyboard language but nothing :/
My nexus S is updated with Jellybean (stock OTA 4.1) and it does work.
Anyone got the same issue?

i still don't understand why the tablet stock keyboard does not have that functionality... is there any specific reason why they would take that option off?
It just doesnt.
Not sure who would answer that or provide you with an answer you would accept... Just get another keyboard, there are many to choose from.

This one is for you
Actually the standard keyboard has this feature, but only in the 360px layout (thats why it works on your Nexus S). In tablet layouts (600px, 768px) the number shortcuts are available in English, but not in other languages (e.g. German).
This is somewhere in the middle between a bug and sloppy design on Googles behalf.
4.2 Keyboard
Now if someone can fix the 4.2 Keyboard to work with long press for numbers I'd be really happy. Swype Keyboard sucks compared to the new 4.2 keyboard.
Bump... Seems I can't get the old fix to work... and I liked it so much! Definitely a fail on Google's behalf.
Found this after starting my own thread, sigh. I see that the stock keyboard in the CM Roms for the fire have this but not the Nexus 7. Is this because the two devices are on either side of the resolution threshold?

This is so disappointing. The keyboard is one of my most favorite things about my galaxy nexus. All inclusive, from the gesture typing to the long-press for numbers. To me, it's flawless. But now that I've got a Nexus 7, and I have to hit another button just to switch between alpha to numeric? It's like using an iphone! Disturbing!
So this is a bump. Seeking out other threads and solutions. I mean, I could install another keyboard, but.....no. The 4.2.x keyboard experience is just too fantastic without this flaw.

Don't know if this trick is known to everyone already but you can actually long press a key for a number. Just long press and hold the number key "?123" then slide through the number you like then let go and voila you have a number and you'll be back to letters again - similar to an iphone keyboard in a way
The MoDaCo ROM has a patched keyboard with the longpress enabled.

Oops, I misread what you were saying. Nice tip, actually. I just wish it worked the way I previously expected, because I'm not a fan of your (valid) method.
Didn't know that about the iphone keyboard either. Now my work iphone is moderately less unpleasant.
