Hello
does anyone know if there is an application to turn the HD into a webcam ?
To use with skype or MSN.
Thanks.
I don't believe you can use the phone as a webcam for msn or skype, I don't think the mobile versions support that. However, if i've mis understood you and you want to use the cam for PC msn or skype, then check out ATEKSOFT web Camera Plus. It's a fantastic program which will allow you not only to use the phone as a webcam over activesync, but you can do it over wifi too with an IP connection.
See what you think.

there are programs apart from msn and skype that allow both video and text chat directly from your device.. i tried a few but the quality of the video isnt worth the trouble
Webcam Plus
there is a tool which will turn your pda to a webcam and you can use it on pc.
But this will not work with the pda versions of skype, msn etc, it works on your pc:

WebCameraPlus does not work with THD. Tried WebCameraPlus from my Prophet where it worked perfectly.
another video-chat thread
not tried by myself, but maybe there is something interesting:

Is there a way to use videochat over wireless connection from Universal like from desktop computer? The O2 ROM has MSN Messanger but this doesn't support that feature.
Thanks.

Messaging clients on Windows Mobile aren't great. MSN is a battery hog. Agile Messenger is featureless. You'd think there'd be a great one to support this video conferencing feature by now. It'll happen.
I hope so. Video call is supported via GPRS/3G (way expensive), but not via tcpip.

Actualy via MSN Messenger, surely it would just be GPRS/3G data, not the video call facility being used?

I'd prefer MSN Messenger video via GPRS/3G data and via wifi as well. Video call is also ridiculously costly.
More Camera Function for your buck
As indicated here, and restated here to reduce double up....

Any programmers out there? Gurus, god like creatures, avatars, superheros, and supreme beings..... PLEASE can any of you develop a program to allow us to get more functionality out of the camera:
1. As indicated, as a security camera
2. Instant Messenger or alternative instant chat by camera over WIFI rather than needing a video call
3. Perhaps even, maybe possibly, enable the camera flashlight also.....
4. Remote control operation from PC
5. Remote control operation over the web!!
I'll tip in some bucks for it and I am sure given the number of forums on this, that others will also.
Alas, mine is the JJ rather than Wizard, but I think many and all would like some additional apps and functions out of the cameras.
Hi!
I got a problem to set up the Hermes as a webcam for messenger apps (Skype, YIM). I got coolcamera 1.15b1 and everything works fine within that application via activesynch and USB connection on dekstop.
But when I try to select the Hermes for webcam device within Skype or Yahoo messenger, it is not shown as option there (only standard windows device or nothing). Maybe I need some driver for using the Hermes as webcam in WinXP (SP2)? How to setup XP or Hermes that Skype will recognize it as webcam device?
Any help much appreciated.
Cool Cam
You need to install there desktop app first and run it. It should then appear as a webcam choice in skype/ options/ video/ test webcam etc.
Otherwise, troll the cool cam forums.
Also, I got it working on yahoo messenger first, then on skype, couldn't get it working otherwise.
I installed desktop app but no option in skype/yahoo to choose it (even while running the app).
I got some register error though, but by ignoring it, program installed successfully. Hm, maybe I need this C++ update for XP then. Gonna try.
Update: It was the C++ thing eventually, so I downloaded http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...EE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en and after installation Coolcamera was shown for webcam device. Works fine now.
Hi,
Is there any way to use the video cam on the tytn.. if you do not have access to 3g or gprs? is there any way to get this working over a wireless connection?
Is there any other software that will enable its use in anything other than a video call. At the moment for me its a bit useless!
Thanks
Webcamera Plus from Ateksoft lets you use either camera as a webcam (with a wifi or USB connection to a PC).

but does this software alow u to use the hermes on msn messenger as a webcam?
msn and skype and........
yes you can, but only from pc.
One missed thing is to use msn + cam directly with the pda (without pc support)
I hope there are commercial reasons, because video calls can be unuseless if you can videocall via mobile messenger.
That would require someone to write a version of Messenger for the PPC that supported video calling, though. Unlikely that anyone except MS would do that, as I don't even know of any 3rd party PC clients that support it fully.
As someone mentioned in another thread, MS Portrait supports video calling - that might be some use.
Here's the situation so far.. I have the software mentioned above, and I can use the Tytn as a webcam, but the problem is that it only shows up in the window on the desktop that one has to open using the software.
I can't get the image to show up on MSN messenger instead..
Is there something that I am missing??
A few people have had this issue. Uninstall/reinstall/reboot worked for me, then you select the source in the webcam setup part of Messenger.
hi guys,
this question has nothing to do with the PC.
i mean strictly on the PPC, can i do this?
thanks!
Webcam Chat With Front Camrea Over Msn Mobile
with this program from microsoft, you can sign in to your msn and make a video call with the ones on your list. Two things i should say;
fisrt, this program does not use front camera, only the back camera can be used, and other friend should have this program installed in his PPC too..
There is also a seperate PC software which is used for making video call on PC, otherwise man on pc can not see your video coming from your PPC...
install and play for a while, you will understand the usage easily.
By the way, both GPRS and WiFi are supported. And both are the latest versions. I hope you are using windows mobile 5, because with windows mobile 6, sometimes program can make some problems.. Like you can not see client, but client can see you, or vice versa...

Hi there,
I was wondering if Windows Mobile Remote Desktop (with WM6.1) can possibly work over Bluetooth. I have my computer and mobile connected via Bluetooth ActiveSync, and I have my computer configured to allow remote desktop, however, I can't seem to get the two to connect.
Does anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks!

highly doubt it, RDP runs on a tcp/ip based network. i dont think that htc phones are capable of that over bluetooth

Yes they are.
remote desktop over bluetooth works fine, i prefer to use realvnc for remote desktop connections though and mocha vnc client software on the PPC , in my opinion its much better than MS remote desktop software
I wish I could figure out why it isn't working then. All the settings seem to be correct. I'll need to try and hunt down a guide somewhere, or I will fiddle and get it working and write one
HI JADEL,
You can use app like BTREMOTE it's a client/server based application allowing you to control most of your apps on the PC.
Try it.

Hi there, I own a HTC TUCH HD, and I want to be able to get remote desktop over bluetooth!
I see you know how to do that, so if you would not mind giving me a short tutorial on what should I do?
thx
it works just fine over bluetooth but not over activesync connection you need to use PAN
when you connect it log out the user disconnecting the activesync connection
thats not the case with bluetooth PAN and wifi
how you set it up is not really a wm question all the setup required is on the pc
and the same setup that you need if using remote desktop from another computer
so google got piles of guides how you turn on remote desktop on the pc and open the ports it require in the firewall
thank you very much for the answer!
