Please help this newbie...:D - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

i need a suggestion, while i plan to upgrade my xda using wm2003, which best rom version can running well in my xda?
which one is best between wm2003final and ppc2002 with rom version 3.20.06?
i have already dload rom version 3.20.06 rom kitchen with .exe file...
can someone explain to me the step by step upgrading rom with .exe file?
thanks a lot to all of u...

yesss
i've already upgrade with wm2003 4.02.04 ENG standard.
now i try to upgrade with wm2003 4.02.04 ENG with rom kitchen.
but, (
all my backup in my sd card cannot be read with this new rom..
i'd try to downgrade my rom with ppc2002 3.20.06, but it cannot be downgraded..

any suggestion, pls???

i try to downgrade using rom version 30.02.06

i am stuck with it....

Try doawnloading it once again. There was an error in the File.
Or extract the EXE-File manually with winzip, and copy the nbf file out of the direcotry German into the directory English.......
Than just run the start.bat file....
Stefan

thanks lumpistefan,
but it doesn't work.
i run start.bat file, but nothing happen.
well, i let my xda run this os wm2003
thanks god i've already made "permanent save" before,
so i didn't loose my contact...
now the problem is the poor signal this xda have...
how to tune up this poor signal?
btw, after upgrade, my xda had a change in model number, it used to have PW10A1, but after upgrade, it become PW10B1. Did that model number change is one of the factors that make the signal poor?
pls your suggestion and review of this case...
thanks a lot!!...
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009....

You may use any ROM Updgrade, you may even want to cook your own ROM, but please do not think of performing a radio stack upgrade if your present radio is working well and giving you a trouble free service.
Hi guys,
I 'm in same situation but with higher versions, and can hardly wait to get a new 2003 ROM.
I can't just play with my XDA as I use it all the time for work and it's pretty stable so far. I just also can't tell that the ROM is 'totally' separate from the RUU in WM2003.
So the question is: is there any one here who has gone through a 2003 upgrade for Qtek 1010 to tell us his thoughts after the upgrade ?
I read a lot about the stability of 4.00.16 ENG, but all been written was for O2 R4.21 or T-Mobile R6.xx. Did any one in this region (Mid East) with R 3.2x went into this upgrade ? and what is the current status ?
Thanx all ....
Latest ...
I tried upgrading to 4.00.11 ENG from the kitchen ... no matter how many trys it just restarts and gives the same error message "Can't open USB/com port ..." ...
Do I miss anything ??
more update ...
Tried to cook the new ROM as .nb1 file and used Xdatools from the kitchen to flash my device .... same result :?
Is it possible that there is a ROM protection on my XDA ???

Hi Biso007,
Look at the IDIOTS GUIDE at:
http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3171
and follow the instructions thoroughly one by one and you can't go wrong, it did work for me, I was in the same situation.
Samohile - Thanks. It is good advice to not mess with the radio if you can help it.
My only problem is that my device periodically shuts off. Then pressing the power button soft boots it. I cant tell for sure but it seems that this happens after an incoming or missed call. It seems that other friends using ROM 3.18.04 and Radio 3.25.01 (like our friend biso007 here) seem to have very stable systems.
I can try upgrading the ROM only and see what happens but the information at www.carrierdevices.com seems to imply that both ought to be upgraded at the same time. I notice it is an Australian site. Does that matter? Also, the version of the radio upgrade is a bit confusing, at least from its name. (Radio Upgrade File : RSUv1.15_(GPRS_T32500_ENG).exe] ). I wonder what this RSUv1.15 translates into since the name of the exe file for the ROM is nicely descriptive of the version (3.18.04).
Any advice in this would be very welcome..
Well i am using WM2003 4.00.11 and its working fine for me no problem i cooked in the kitchen you just need to read arround this great forum for a whgile on topics such as upgrades and ROM to know exactly what you are dealing with and then you will able to upgrade smoothly.
Hi ARZLEB
I read lots and lots about upgrade lessons but none of them worked for me .... I got an advice to use SD card with bootloader as it's the only working way. Now I wonder why the EXE method was created!!
I see that u got the 4.00.11 working. Did u upgrade it using EXE or SD card. Any help would be so appreciated ... thnx
Well i used the EXE methode the file i cooked in the Kitchen but i didnt change the version i left as 3 at the bottom of the page it works fine i upgraded from 3.XX to 4.XX then i downgraded from 4.00.11 to 4.00.05 then upgraded again all using EXE format so far working great.
i will be honest with you i know about the SD methode very well but never tried it so u have to make more search on this issue.
If you need anything more plz message me anytime and i will be more then whilling to help you step by step...

Faisal sorry for very late reply.
I have flashed my Qtek (bought in Abu Dhabi) with several versions of roms cooked in kitchens (Jeff's and Stefans's), but I have finally settled with ATT release wm2003 Siemens SX56 upgrade. It comes with most of the bugs fixed (except multiple reset bug) and is quite stable. I almost never have to reset it. You can flash the ROM only by SD card method though. You can try it. It's always a good idea to flash using SD card method. USB method using ProgramA is not very safe. I guess the network in Pakistan is compatible with the one in the UAE, so you can safely use it, if you don't mess up with the Radio Stack. My Radio is 3.23.01 and I have no problems with that.

Problems updating ROM, I need help, please.

I'm trying to upgrade my XDA with ROM version 3.14.16 GER (Model number PW10A1) with the upgrade file (v3.17.03) downloaded from O2 UK website (I mean, I would like to change the language only). When I execute the upgrade file runs ok, but after several steps occurs the following error: ERROR 007: NO ROM IMAGE FILE. Cannot find the ROM image to upgrade your Pocket PC.
I also have tried with XDA Os Image tool (downloaded from this web) with Source:...NK.nbf and Destination: Device Memory (via Programme A) but there is another error: Programme A not found -run with '--register' error openenig target device (but Porgramme A is installed on my PC).
Thanks in advance.
What language are you trying to change to?
Now it's in german, I want to change to english.

Ok I suggest you upgrade to the Qtek 1010 ROM
http://www.carrierdevices.com.au/downloads/asiapacific.htm
Download Radio Upgrade File : RSUv1.15_(GPRS_T32500_ENG).exe
The D/L comes with both the ROM and the Radio Stack Upgrade last time I checked so just do the ROM.
or you can go with the XDA developers Special Edition ROM v1.2
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe
http://www.xs4all.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe
either way your ROM will changed to English.

Thank you very much but I've tried the two ways. The first one doesn`t work because there is only the Radio Stack Upgrade file and with the second one I've got the same error than before, ERROR 007: NO ROM IMAGE FILE. What I'm doing wrong?
I don't know anything about the German ROM, but what about using the SD card flash method? It lets you get around the Programme A problems that occur with ROM's such as those from T-Mobile.

I don`t know very well that method. What I have to do? Do I have to do a copy of the ROM file to SD card first and then copy it to the ROM of XDA from the SD card?
Thanks a lot.

Basically I linked to the information necessary to do SD card flashes from this thread, as well as covering other issues with changing ROM's, such as with the bootloader (5.17 is an extra technicality) : http://xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3860. You will need an SD card reader which shows your SD card as an extra drive in explorer.
Let us know if you have further problems.

WM 2003 OS on XDA1

Hi
Is it possible to get WM 2003 on the XDA 1. ie upgrade the 2002 version supplied with the XDA1
If so is there a step by step guide to the process.
Thanks in advance for any help
Cheers
Ric
I read this message on this forum and would like some help please
"T-mobile WM 2003 for MDA I will be available 29.Dec.03 ???"
Yes it is possible to upgrade your XDA I. I put the T-Mobile Backup-Rom provided here on my XDA I and it works perfectly. How to do it, is explained there as well. But be aware that the ROM provided there is a German one. I don't know how to change it into an English one.
C U @ Mallorca
The ENG version is here ftp://tmobile:[email protected]:21 .. but be careful as it contains the upgrade for both RSU and ROM.

your device is 900/1800mhz = the A model
the upgrade you trying to put on it is the american version hence tmobile.... which is 900/1900 the B version

EURO Upgrade
Where can i found an european wm2003 upgrade (in english, not in german)?
marco
the versions of wm2003 you can only use are:
v4.00.01, v4.00.05 & v4.00.11 no other versions of wm2003 as of yet the others are american versions.
www.yorch.net
Gaz, ur right but the A,B difference is significant only for RSU upgrades. That's why it's performed with TMO 4.01.00 file as it contains both RSU and ROM upgrades. But if you use Winzip to extract the ROM files only, I don't think it will show this error.
However, I 'm still waiting to see a kitchen option based on 4.01.00, but seems the focus now is on XDA II stuff
Is there any chance you could send me the 4.01.00 file, can't find it anywhere. Ronnie
just check 6 posts higher in this thread
Your a GOD, thanx
Hello Biso;
I downloaded the file, right clicked on it and used the winzip options to unzip it to a folder where I found a file named upgrade and a folder named English. I found the folder to contain the rsu, so I did not try to use it as you recommended, and I double clicked on the upgrade.exe file. Unfrotunately the same error message of device a and b came in and I could not continue.
What I am doing wrong.??

Nothing wrong, All upgrades made by operators will do such check and since your device seems to be PW10A then you will always get this error if you use the EXE method.
In the \English directory, you will find a file named NK.nbf which should have a size of 32 MB. After extracting this file, you have 2 options:
1. If you have SD card and reader/writer, put it on the SD card and flash your XDA through the bootloader.
OR
2. Use the XDAtools from this site and make the source is the NK file and the destination is the XDA flash ROM.
2. Use the XDAtools from this site and make the source is the NK file and the destination is the XDA flash ROM
Thank you very much Biso, you were of great help. I just flashed the rom and I know I will enjoy it. by the way I changed my device to qtek 1010, to have an extra 32 of ram.
BTW do you know a cool site from which I can change the skin of the phone. I just did not like the TM logo

Upgrade my XDA (1) to New 2003 Software

Somebody plz help. Got a XDA 1 (A Version), and have Rom Version 3.17.03 ENG, and Radio Version 4.21.00. I am on the Vodafone (UK) Network and want to upgrade phone to new 2003 software. Is it capable of being done yet, and if so, what files do i need (or a link plz). Many Many thanx to all those who reply. Regards, Ronnie[/b]
www.yorch.net and please scan around the forum before attemting anything that may kill your pda.
thanx for the reply, i have been to that site but not sure which files to use/download. Any info appreiated, thanx, Ronnie
1. Go to the kitchen option on the left side menu. Select the base for your new cooked ROM ... ex: 4.00.05, or 4.00.16 ... etc
2. You should see the top screen gauge in red. That means you have to check and uncheck some of the s/w contents untill it's green.
3. Select the EXE method and wait till it's "cooked" then down load the ROM file. Connect your XDA to your PC using the cradle and run the EXE and follow the instructions.
4. IMPORTANT: better to have a backup on SD card befor starting just in case.
Good luck ...
Thanx, will that work ok with the A model??
It worked for me. The difference between A and B is significant only for RSU upgrades not the ROM. However, official ROM upgrades do this check as well, but the kitchen doesn't .... clever developrs!!!
Is there any chance you could send me the 4.01.00 file, can't find it anywhere. I notice you have that update on yours, and radio vers 6.24.01, do you have that available too?? Will it be ok in the uk, or am i best just using the 4.00.05 one from the kitchen, and leaving my RSU with 4.21.00 vers.
Many thanx for all your help, Ronnie :?

One very important lesson, if you have a functioning RSU, do NOT mess up with it
Got it updated thanx, works very well, but cant get active sync to work now, downlaoded v 3.7.1 and still nothing. Any ideas?? Ronnie :x
what is your device info right now ?
what type of error you get with active sync and is it on the XDA or the PC ?
Hint: try another PC to see whether it's your XDA or the PC
Device Info is:-
Rom: 4.00.05 ENG
RUU: 4.21.00
Worked fine before updating Rom, not done anything different to pc, and now it just can't find the XDA...??
Not sure why.
Ronnie :?
Do these tests in order and check the result after each:
1. soft reset
2. reinstall active sync
3. another PC
4. hard reset
many thanx for teh advice, got it sorted now, had to re-install active-sync, now works a dream, and a lot faster too. Many many thanks to Biso007 for your help, this forum is COOL

It doesn't matter which ROM you have now. Just cook any 2003 ROM there and it will put you on WM2003 (unless your device is from T-Mobile, 4.00.05 is a best choice).

Sorry for late reply. Dunno why nobody has replied to you yet.
I don't know if you can get a french version of ROM, but the one in English released by ATT for Siemens SX56 (A.30.09 ENG) works very good. I upgraded my Qtek 1010 from version 3.14 to wm2003 several versions cooked in Jeff's kitchen but I have so far found this to be the most stable and convenient. Not only that, many bugs in the earlier versions of wm2003 are fixed. (Multiple Reset Notification bug still exists but it can be handled by scarybear software available free at http://www.scarybearsoftware.com
You can get it if you follow this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5623&highlight=qtek+wm2003
I discovered that the Activesync method to flash this ROM does not work. The Program A just does not run. I used SD card method. It works.
The ATT release comes with ROM upgrade and Radio Upgrade files. If you are not having any problems with your present radio, never attempt to upgrade the Radio Stack. You can find enough dead devices if you browse through this forum.
Somewhere I read in this forum that the NK.NBF file can be extracted from the downloaded file, however I could not figure out how. I ran the application and quit before it started to flash the device. You can find the NK.NBF file in c:\Program Files\SX56 Upgrade*\...\english\ folder.
You can get the .nbf file out by just opening the .exe file with winzip. At least that's how I did it
Perhaps it can be done with winzip. I use Ultimate Zip and it does not allow it
i just change the extention from exe to zip and the file acts like any other zip file
