Hello everyone,
first merry x-mas.
I spended a whole afternoon to find the accelerator of GPS for my trinity.
on the forum, there are three tools exist:
1. QGPS from http://www.avaricum.net/qgps.cab
2. SeaSGEE
3. a modified QuickGPS from P3300
QGPS is unique FOR HP DEVICE, SeaSGEE and the QuickGPS from P3300 are FOR SiRF Star chips which download a "packedEphemeris.ee" to the windows root.
It's been a misunderstood on this forum that many members think that trinity has a SiRF Star Chips.
But, as a matter of factor, what's in trinity is a Qualcomm gpsONE chipset. (qualcomm 6280). And the right satellite map file for qualcomm chipset is "xtra.bin".
So actually, trinity MUST use the same QuickGPS as Kaiser or Diamond which use the same Qualcomm BRAND.
Somehow the quickGPS is coded uniquely for Kaiser or diamond, on trinity it will say connetion failed.
With some luck I found the quickgps.exe cracked for any deviced, version which download xtra.bin instead of packedEphemeris.ee
Tested after a hard reset (so that's sure that will be a cold start of the gps), and the quickgps really works like a charm, tomtom finished his first location within 30 seconds.
Hope this will be helpful for all of you. good luck
At last a quick gps that works.
thanks for sharing
Thanks. It works properly in my Tinity. I've just renamed QuickGPS.exe.0409.mui to QuickGPS.exe.0C0A.mui, because I use a Spanish ROM.
Best Regards !
Hi,
Are you sure that it's working ?
I've just try the cab.
It's download the xtra.bin from the webserver but it didn't upload it to the radio module.
I enabled "AT command debug" for retrieving the content of the exchange from the PPC part (samsung) and the MSM6275.
Connection to the GPS port send the [email protected] commant but didnt upload the xtra.bin...
And i've just try to have a fix on my place.
It's take exactly the same time as before.
For your information, the msm6275 retrieve the ephemeris over the air thru the low speed like provided by the GPS system.
This , as read on the Trinity Service Manual, take 35 sec on average.
This Ephemeris is stocked on the radio part of the MSM6275.
It's have 4 hour of validity time.
So, if you try to connect , even after hard reset (since hard reset only reset the ppc part), this ephemeris is ok.
You will normally have a fix within 15 sec in this case.
I also have found the best way to improve the fix time on the trinity.
You have to use he "GPS sharing" fonction provided by wm.
I set it to share the GPS on COM4 . The original GPS COM port is COM9.
After that, i start a GPS information software on COM4 and also TOMTOM at the same time.
I have to also be on stationned position ( car stopped ).
The fix take less than 35 sec in 95% of the case.
Canope
I am usually a sceptic when it comes to those tools but I just installed this (also had to rename Windows/QuickGPS.exe.0409.mui, in my case to QuickGPS.exe.0407.mui for German ROM).
I went outside and I got a fix in about 45 seconds which is unusual for my street. I'll keep an eye on the GPS fix times.
EDIT: I just read what canope wrote and now I'm not so sure if my mind wasn't just playing tricks on me. Debugging the AT commands seems a more scientific method. Could someone do the same for a device like Kaiser or Diamond to check if the upload can be seen there?
Italian MUI
My italian mui for this QuickGps version
i'am using a portuguese rom any help to put it working ?
Yes: go to your windows dir, look for files ending with XXXX.mui.dll to find out what the portuguese number is (XXXX for germany is 0407).
Then copy Windows/QuickGPS.exe.0409.mui to your PC, change 0409 to the ID you found and copy it back.
You can then delete the english QuickGPS.exe.0409.mui if you want.
This will make it appear to work but as canope pointed out it may well be equally useless as all earlier tools for Trinity.
hello canope,
u give me a right way to verify it.
I enabled both my trinity and diamond.
based on the log file, diamond doesnt show a upload command neither.
I dont know if at log will write down this action.
I can understand why u think the xtra.bin is not uploaded. the SiRF Star chip absorts the packedEphemeris.ee, and the file will disappear in windows root. (based on my knowledge of tomtom one 1)
Somehow Qualcomm chip doesnt act the same way, it leaves xtra.bin in windows root all the time. (based on my test on diamond)
besides, the log file is uploaded, u can see the diamond dont even show [email protected] command after starting a Tomtom
This tool definitely works. Fix within 30 secs with Google Maps and haven't used GPS on this ROM yet.
Hi, can you try this sequence on the diamond, with atdbgcmd on:
- shutdown it;
- start it;
- launch quickgps, update the ephemeris;
- start tomtom or other gps client;
- copy the atdbg file located on /temp to another place;
You will normally see commands like [email protected]
the [email protected] is hardcoded on the quickgps binary file.

hello, the log i have uploaded is actually the sequences u demend.
Did you have taskmanager on your mobile phone ?
I've noticed something strange on the at command logs.
There is an agpsadress setted.
I'm interrested to know which diamond rom version you have ?

yes, i noticed that too. the rom is official RUU_Diamond_HTC_FRA_1.93.406.1_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship
[email protected] may have string in QuickGPS code, yet it's on propose for the acient device such as p3300 (SiRF STAR again) which i can recell it's where the first version of quickgps is found. the programmer normally doesnt rewrite the code completely.
another exemple is the log file I have provided, diamond doesnt even have [email protected] which trinity has. different devices have some different AT commands.
For another deep study case, I found the gps tool in the forum, which explain how @setgps works (cool, warm, hot, xtra start) just use setgps.exe and restart the device.
One thing I must point out, on the SiRF STAR chip, packedEphemeris.ee is upload automaticly by the code of windows ce, quickgps has nothing coded to do with the upload thing. if you place a packedEphemeris.ee in the windows root (a sirf star chip of cause), modify HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\EE\AcessTime, the packedEphemeris.ee will be uploaded and disappear.
Thanx
one Question: Dose it effect Battery?
This confirm my feeling.
QuickGPS cannot work on the trinity.
For me, the ephemeris is uploaded by something else.
I think it uploaded by the rilgsm.dll.
This file contain the ril driver specifically made for the device.
So, for me , the rilgsm.dll Diamond's files is in charge of the uploading.
Can you send me back this file for the diamond ?
For your information, i was the first one who have gps fonction on the trinity .
Check on the forum, you will find my contribution to the trinity .
I've send the first radio gsm enabled rom and the necessary files ( rilgsm.dll included).
So , for me , the rilgsm il in charge of this actions.

Hi
I don't know if this quickgps works or not, I can't verify because it's snowing and the fix is difficult. My nmea log is about 90kb and after 5 minutes no fix at all...
But inside the package there is a registry key:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS]
"region"="US"
Have you tried to change it to the country you live? And does the server provides information for more than a country?
Ciao
works for me
I'm no expert and don't know anything about the inner working of a GPS but I tryied the file this morning and in a cloudy day while speeding on a motorway got a fix in 30 sec. (+/-) - haven't used the GPS for over a week before this morning -
I had the same fast fix with the latest PDAMobiz ROM's too so there must be a way to speed up the fix on the trinity and really think that this is it
BTW if is just my mind playing games with me - well I'm happy just as well
thanks a lot to themaskfly for posting this and happy new year to all

QuickGPS does make a difference
This program really does work! When I used the original HTC Radio ROM 1.46, it was very slow to obtain GPS fixes. But after upgrading to radio 1.56.70.11 (my base ROM is still the original WM6.0 WWE version 3.00.707.18) and installing QuickGPS (with corrected region to download the right data) fixes are now obtained very quickly from a cold start. That is compared to many occasions of waiting about 20 minutes prior to installing this software.
I did have to change the region in the registry [HKLM] - Software\HTC\QuickGPS\region because when I installed it, the default region was the US which also initially accounted for some slow fix times until corrected.

I fiddled around with my extended rom this week.
Now I managed to get all my favourite apps in the ext-rom so in case of a hard-reset (especially when on holiday, do no PC around) I will get a decent config back.
Until now I did not manage to get a CAB file for TomTom.
TomTom comes in APK files, which seem to be some other type of archive. I guess there are 2 options:
1. Create a CAB from the TomTom APK files and put them in Extended rom
2. Find out the way to install from an APK file ON THE DEVICE
Anyone with hints/tips????
:?:
Hello,
the cab of TT are created during the installation of TT ( see in program files / Microsoft ActiveSync) . You can download the upgrade of TT, during he instllation, the cab are uncompressed. You can find after the Cab and save in the extended Rom.
@+
Sperli
Thanks, but this is what I guessed allready.
There is nothing TomTom like in the Progra Files/Microsoft Activesync directory.
I started setup again (it processed the APK files), but did not connect the MDAII. So whith next sync it will ask to install. That makes me conclude the CAB is somewhere on my PC.
When I look in the Registry, I find following under H-key-localmachine/software/microsoft/windows CE services/appmgr/apps/Tom Tom Navigator:
installdir -> c:\winnt\profiles\<username>\temp\navigator
listcabfiles -> navigator_eng.ppc3_arm.cab navigator_eng.ppc3_sh3.cab navigator_eng.ppc3_mips.cab
I think I only need the navigator_eng.ppc3_arm.cab
Gues the files should be in c:\winnt\profiles\<username>\temp\navigator then.
But it isnt . . . .
Should it be there only during the copy to the MDAII???
Anyone more clues?
FOUND IT!!!!
Just when the installer mentions the files will be installed at next sync, the CAB's are in the directory I mentioned.
TT3 after Hard Reset
Here you are the 3 necessary cab for TT3,
Gps, Nav and voice, english in this case.
Two of those are taken from the upgrade file 303.
Voice are english and it's from original cd.
Enjoy
Rups
ehm, thist this might be called illegal software now!!!!
i don't want that,
only a way to have it after hard reset...
Sorry, moderator can you come...
Rups
how can it be called illgal software now when......
it doesnt have the maps with it nor the activation code!
some people eh?
theis method of backing up sounds like a very good idea,
Tom Tom Navigator is essential to my job for finding my way around the country and i have had 2 occasions where it has crashed or hard reset whilst i was using it, I am not too worried about any of my other info but i need to be able to run TTN3 all the time,
My current method of ensuring i have always got a working copy is to carry another PPC (ipaq 2210) with another gps and another 256 meg sd card with a full install of TTN3 just in case i get into trouble, But this sounds like a much better and far more cost effective method !!
I will give this a try, I assume i just install my maps onto my SD card like i normally do and if i reinstall i just reactivate the new install to get it working again
Thanks guy...
In this case i wrote that the cab was extracted from the upgrade 303... normally find it at main tomtom site and free of charge...
Second the many voice files you can find free of charge on the internet...
Third my idea was having tt3 in any occasion... also after a hard reset...
Fourth No code or maps...
And than here we go...

Hi
I'm new to this loading stuff to the extened ROM business, but I like the sound of it.
In order to do this do I copy the CAB file anywhere in the pocket PC, i.e. my documents and then run it, or does it need to be copied to the extended ROM.
If it is copied to the extended ROM, do I then need to actually run the CAB file from the extended Rom after a hard reset in order to re-install it, or is it actually installed.
Finally what is unlocking the extended ROM tool required for?
Cheers
JustinP
please don't post software here.
By all means put the instructions, but the RTU for tomtom make it quite clear that it should not be dissasembled, distributed or made available without permission.
I'm currently using TomTom 5.00 on my Magician (1.12.550 Qtek ROM + 1.13 Radio) paired with a non-TomTom bluetooth GPS with success; but I would like to upgrade to 5.10 to be able to use CheckPOInt in order to show and warn me about all possible speedtraps.
However, as soon as I upgrade to TomTom 5.10 and I launch the application, my Magician turns itself off. Turning it on again results only in it shutting down instantly again. The only way to gain control again, is to perform a soft-reset.
I even tried several cr****d versions of the 5.10 upgrade, but all have the same effect
Oh, my 5.0 version is installed from the 5.0 BakoNL release + the POI patch, but I did try other installations of TomTom as well.
Could anyone help me out ?
Same problem here
I have exactly the same problem. Can someone help us. Pleeezzzzz...
Before I forget ... my reason to upgrade to the latest Qtek Rom in the first place was to get this update running. With my original I-mate 1.11 ROM I did have the same problems.
A collegue of mine has the same version (installed from the same media) running flawlessly on his HP 63xx series, so I think this is related to the Magician and not the software.
Hi,
What you can try is to download that upgrade but not install it yet.
Just unpack it on your computer and find the gps upgrade and the dll file that came with it. copy these files to your my documents on your pocketpc and then launch it (put the dll file in the windows folder first!!).
It works for me
Hi TomTom fellows,
I am currently running the newest 5.10 version on my Magician flawlessy. I have experienced a few problems in the past (expecially with version 5.00) but I found out they were related to the POIs. I have solved them by renaming the POI.DAT to something else. Sure, I missed the POIs, but I'd rather use my personal ones, so who cares.
Give it a try and let us know...
Silver.
5.0 did have some problems with POI, which could be solved by using an older version of the POI file. 5.10 has fixed this and now POI is working perfectly, as well as everything else. If it's not running on your Magician, most likely you have some other software obstructing it.
I don't dare to bet on it, but I'm quite sure I did run TomTom on a clean device with the same effect. Perhaps it is caused by my 5.00 TomTom release icw the Magician then ?
@raouljokhoe : how do you unpack the files out of the official TomTom upgrade? All I have is the setup.exe and a .apk file ?
TTN5
I'm in Oz.
I have TTN5.1 running with no problems at all on my magician.
Also just the 5.0 allows you to add camera POI's and have an alert for any POI catagory you'd like.
I tried TomTom 5.10, it runs perfectly well. But it does not recognize "Major Roads of Europe" Map. So, how is yours?
I solved the problem by replacing the .exe file (only) using the old version 5.00.
And it is now working flawlessly on my 1.01 ROM (yeah!!).
Note: I experienced a lot of problem with 5.00, but then I got a new .exe from my friend, still version 5.00 but it works perfectly.
TomTom has one big flaw: If the currentmap.dat file is not in \my docs\tomtom\ then things dont work properly. I run 5.10 on my magician with no problems but everytime i hardreset i need to replace the currentmap.dat file. The file basically just says where the current map folder is.
My file says:
& \Storage Card\Great_Britian_Plus-Map\

I know that just the 5.0 can warn upcoming POI's, but it is based in number of meters before the POI instead of number of seconds. Also there is no indication when you are speeding. CheckPOInt does all that ...

That isn't the problem ... The file is there and correct. At startup of 5.10 I even have just the time to see part of the map before the PDA shuts itrself down. The 5.0 version does run well, with POI's and all.
Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem ... and others run TT5.1 flawlessy on their device
:?:
At last someone having my problem
I have been getting this very problem too. Searched everywhere to find an answer at last I have found other people who have my problem!
My story so far....
I started with the cracked version originally of TT5.0 which worked ok and I didnt need to activate the maps. I then downloaded the 5.1 update from TT website, I then installed it.
I succesfully launched TT5.1 but it wanted me to activate the maps. So I downloaded the 5.1 crack using p2p software and installed it. this involves switching the pukka tomtom.exe file on your ppc for the cracked one. Soon as i launched the crack version I started getting these crashes on launch that shut down the magician.
So after loads of reinstalls/hard resets I finally decided to go and buy the original discs. So after recieving the discs I hard reset my device (again) and started a fresh brimming with confidence that my problem would be cured. But to no avail using the pukka route with official activation codes and the official 5.1 update it still crashes.
So my theory is given that other users use 5.1 ok that the 5.1 crack is the devil in all this, as its use somehow screws with your ROM rendering it useless to any further reinstalls of the proper the 5.1 tomtom software. And the only way forward is to reflash your rom So this I am now planning to do as one last attemt to get it working and to gain the big storage facilty.
As I now have properly registered software I now put my self in touch with tomtom suport to see if they had any ideas on what the problem was. (obviously neglecting to mention I originally used the crack version  )
Here is the support thread so far

I have just bought your tomtom navigator 5 software, I have installed the version 5 updated it to 5.1 and installed the UK maps. The next step I loaded TomTom from the the today screen to start the set up process but the screen just goes black and crashes mt PDA. What is causing this It's brand new it should just work out of the box and your site says it supports my device?
Customer 03/10/2005 06.06 PM
I have since uninstalled all the software, deleted bad registry keys, and reinstalled, this time I just installed v5.0 which started up and allowed me to activate the maps. So then I installed the 5.1 update and it did the same as before and kept crashing my MDA when youlaunch tomtom. The screen fades to black and shuts the unit off. When you press the power again it comes on shows the nav screen breifly then powers off again. Very frustrating! Please help I so need this to work!
Customer 03/10/2005 09.17 PM
OK I rang your support line tonight, as this system seems slow. They had me hard reset my device and reinstall just tomtom navigator 5.0, which does work. The guy stated that there was no need for me to update to 5.1 as there are no known issues with the MDA compact. But I am unhappy about this situation as I wanted to use either checkpoint or poi warner with the tomtom software in order to give me speed camera alerts. Both these peices of software state they require version 5.1 or higher.
from checkpoint site:
CheckPOInt 5 was created with use of the software development kit (SDK) for TTN 5, and apparently it is required to upgrade TomTom Navigator to version 5.1 before applications created with this SDK can run smoothly.)
I await your resonse thx

Thank you for your email.
We would first like to apologize for the late response of this email. We hope that it has not inconvenienced you.
Your PDA model is not compatible with nor meant to be used with the 5.1 update. All TomTom products and software run on all versions of Navigator 5. As we do not support third party programs, please contact the manufacturer of CheckPOint.

Thank you for you response
I would like to request that this information be made available with the 5.1 download, so far I have wasted nearly 4 days in time trying to get the update to work. A simple statement on your site about incompatibility of the 5.1 update with the MDA compact would have saved me hours of time and will also help future users of the mda compact & tomtom not go through the same thing as me.
I have to say I find it the most bizzare situation that you provide a software update which cant be used with by some models and you don't state this fact on your website.
>>>As we do not support third party programs, please contact the manufacturer of CheckPOint.
No but you provide the SDK telling developers only to write for 5.1!!! If this is the case with certain models you should tell them to write for 5.0. Third party software is all part and parcel of wanting to buy your software had known I would have skirted passed it.

Then your site is confusing
It states it is for Pocket PC, my MDA Compact is a pocket PC running Windows Mobile 2003SE
from your site:
This update can ONLY be used when you have already installed a registered version of TomTom NAVIGATOR 5 on your Pocket PC or if you are using a HP iPAQ HW 6510/6515.
fixes:
Improved phone functionality for your Pocket PC
Easier installation of 3rd party (non-TomTom) GPS devices
Improved display on devices which have a VGA display (640 x 480 pixels)
I am using both phone and third party GPS system so this update indicates to me it's for my device!
Please clarify the situation

(I know this post will probably attract some anti piracy responses, but hey I do buy some software, and I mainly d/l it for free to test the software first).
So to establish whether this problem is related to cracked versions of the TOMTOM 5.1 update or not....
Are you using genuine or cracked versions successfully or unsuccessfully on your Magician?
Hello Jimmy ...
You sure went trough a lot of trough a lot of trouble for contacting TomTom support ! I was honestly thinking about buying an official version myself, but apparently that does not seem to be a good solution either then ... since even with the official support and license, they just wimp away any questions regarding the MDA
I'm afraid I will go back to my Alturion installation if I cannot get this issue sorted (yes, it's an oficial one, really ...), although I do prefer TomTom on the PDA
Unless of course a 5.2 release might solve our problems of course !
I seriously doubt the 5.1 cracked version messing up the ROM honestly .... Why only on the MDA then and not on any other PDA make ?
Cheers !
I am using TT5.0 instead of 5.1 because I need to load TT 2004 USA map. I do have TT5 USA map but found 2004 map works much better in California. (TT5 USA map only display INCORRECT exit number instead of exit street name). So far so good until the day I need to search for "Wal-mart" and it crash. Works fine now after I overwrite the TT 2004 USA POI file w/ TT5 USA POI file. I guess it has something to do w/ the POI file format.
I'm getting this same problem with a fresh 5.0 install. Has anyone found a way around this. Also if anyone has a working version of 5.0 on an MDA Compact could they let me have a file list of what is on the SD card as I'm wondering if there is any third party add ons on it.
Well, I gave it another try doing a hard reset but to no avail.
Since others are running 5.10 without any problems apparently, this must have someting to do with either the rom version or the ext_rom contents.
What versions are you using and is the 5.10 upgrade working for you ?
Me, I run the Qtek WWE_11200_550_11200 + Radio upgrade 1.13 on what used to be an Imate Jam. All roms were taken from the XDA-developpers ftp.
@job : I PM'ed you so we could try to find out what is wrong
Hi,
until now i had no problems using TT5.0 on my Magician (original MDAc german).
Yesterday I upgraded to the new 1.13.01 ROM (org T-Mobile Germany). After upgrading to the new ROM-Version and installing TT5.0 it was not starting anymore. So I decided upgrading to TT5.1, but the downloaded upgrade hangs while installing on the device. The only help is a Soft-Reset.
I think, there are problems with the new ROM. Has anyone same problems or a solution for that problem.

Looks like Extended ROM problems. Try a hard reset and then soft reset the device, just as the 3 seconds countdown appears. Install TomTom and see if it runs. If it does, try installing the prgs of the Ext ROM one by one, until TT fails again. Then you will know the culprit.
all guys having Hermes/TyTN already - could you check if there is in \Windows directory GSMTestMode.exe file, and if yes - what is happening after execution?
it is GSM network monitoring application, it works in Wizard with AKU2 ROMs, so i wonder how about Hermes/TyTN? thanks in advance.
Hi,
The file \Windows\GSMTestMode.exe doesn't exist, at least in TyTN WWE rom.
Can you attach this file from a Wizard rom and any associated dll? We can try if it runs on Hermes...

shame. maybe i'll send you GSMTestMode.exe file from my Wizard and then you could check if it would work with your TyTN? drop me your e-mail address on my PM. TIA!
For the forum archive:
I've tried it, i can click it but it does noting. Nothing is launched
Probably some dll is missing or just it doesn't work on TyTN.
eva_d has recomended me to try NiceTrack, i've never heared about it before, googled it and downloaded it from here:
http://www.nicecuppa.com/download/NiceTrack_Release_1_6.zip
When I execute the exe on the TyTN it says: "You have not selected a COM port for your GSM Modem" "Please go to 'Menu -> Settings' and choose a COM Port."
I did this, and tried the "Detect" option on COM Port settings, but it says "Modem not found, please restart the application and try again".
So, I restarted the app, and manually choosed every COM port from COM0: to COM9: but on the main screen I always see "Area: Unknown" and "Location: Unknown", and empty signal indicator. So I guess this app is not working with TyTN

Area/Location says unknown, if your current cell is not listed in app's internal database, so that's all right. most important values are: CID and LAC - are these boxes empty as well?

Yes, CID and LAC are empty, I repeated the test of selecting all COM ports, just to make sure. None of them works for me

Hi,
would you pls check this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=57938&highlight=engineer
Still my question is unanswered:
How are registry keys parsed and decoded ?
Could we find the string values of registry codes somewhere in the code of a .dll which checks for the value in the .hiv file ?
If so it would be in Unicode (and easily be found with my HexEditor).
Which files should be checked ?
I made a file dump with a modified version of the WM5filedump utility from buzzdev but the destination directory "modules" keeps empty (only the file directory is filled with lots of files from the ROM).
Unfortunately the ril.dll and rilgsm.* files are not among these files :-(
And if you scan the ril.dll which you can find with the explorer it only contains zeros :-(
I think we need some kind of collaborate work in order to find out how to use the TestMode or get it to work.
Also it might be of big value to find a way to have H displayed for HSDPA and E for EDGE.
(The latter is possible with the WM5 predecsoor models from HTC but not with the TyTN.)

I could attach it, but no avail.
Doesn't run on the Hermes (see my original posting I quoted in an other message of this thread.)
fieldtest
as it was mentioned by eeter in this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=57938
there is fieldtest application within \Windows folder, which is supposed to be netmonitor, like GSMTestMode. anyone having Hermes/TyTN could confirm that, attaching some screenshots if it is working indeed? many thanks for that.

Yes, I can confirm: that it's NOT there !
There is no file called fieldtest.*, there is also no other *.exe file on my HTC TyTN that is the fieldtest / monitor mode (got 222 exe's using the Find function of the explorer, incl. the applications installed on the storage card. Checked each of them. Negative.)
I think we should now ask eeter about the where's and how's and maybe he can upload this file (and it's no fake or trojan or the like).
But even if the GSMTestMode application would work on the TyTN I could not say that it is so great.
OK it provides the most basic cell information but it is way not as good as e.g. the monitor mode of a Nokia 6680 (which I have on that phone
OK better than nothing it would be on the TyTN.
But still no sight of a fieldtest application for the TyTN :-(

Let's continue this thread here:

as it's been now revealed that the Monitor Mode of a HTC TyTN is no longer called Engineering but Field Test !

Pof, I am also using TyTn model but diff name: Dopod and I also face the same problem. The site is down and sharpstuff is not responding to the Nicetrack post, I think. Do you have the earlier version? Might work coz he did mention that some of the later version didn't include some libraries/files... If you have, can you email it to me at tr4657[at]streamyx.com...
Field Test is present in the 8525 ROM.
After hard reset I am able to use TT7 and Google maps with GPS for two days and then the GPS cannot be found. I installed the Nadavi_HTC GPS tool from the Polaris forum and again the GPS cannot be found.
I’ve read elsewhere in this forum that other people are having the same problem yet the tread just stopped with no solution.
I have no GPS problems with both my Polaris and Diamond.
Anyone have any idea’s or suggestions?
Same issue...
And unable to download A-GPS update (download up to 77% than says "connexion fails. Please try again later") - updating was OK (and GPS also OK) last week :-(((
Other users have the same problem on the french forums...

That's a general internet connection error. Is the device set to use a proxy?
Hard Reset the device and the same fault developed after two days.
No one else having the same problem??
Hmmm, seems odd that it's after two days (i.e. a time limited thing)
Have you tried turning off assisted GPS and then resetting again?
It's just that the assisted GPS thing does have a time limit on it

I doubt it's an Internet connection issue, because it was perfectly working last week, and all the other Inetrent-enables apps (Meteo, Opera,...) are working.
It's more like a driver ou dll issue, that prevent the OS from communicating with the GPS. It would explain both with the GPS is not working, and why the a-GPS update can't be done (my guess is the upload of the ephemeris from the net to the app is done correctly, but that the app cannot upload it to the GPS)
Thanks eyaeya, I think you could be onto something...I read in another post that there could be a conflict between the VoIP drivers and GPS drivers. Have reset the phone yet again and will wait and see..
Update and GPS is operating for the time being.
Digging the system...
I did a full backup, and a hard reset : the QuickGPS HTC app (A-GPS ephemeris downloading) is working, as well as VisualGPSCe (both were not working before the hard reset).
Restored the backup : both are not working again :-(
Open the registry : found 87 instances of "GPS"... I'm going to check the values in the 2 version of the registries... maybe we'll have a clue ! And if not, I'll check the windows/systems files. If I don't find something, I'll reinstall all the apps one after the other anc will check the GPS functionnality after each (BTW, thanks for the VoIP driver tip : I've installed Skype, Fring, SJPhone Beta, WM6oIP,SIPCOnfig 2.0.1, so one of them may be fooling me around)
Will keep you updated...
-update 1-
I've been quickly comparing the registries with Word.. haven't found any valuable information yet
I also compared the\windows directories with winmerge (which does a binary comparison) : some differences, but nothing linked to a driver or dll...
I'll try to restored the backup set (the one I did after the hard reste) to see if it makes the GPS working, or if I have to go through a hard reset again (which would mean the issue would be somewhere in the chip itself, or in some non-volatile mem...)
-update 2-
I've being paying with backups forth & back... If I restore the backup I did after he HardRest+few programs installed, the GPS is working again. SO I just have to find what in the bakcup is making it work again => system file ? registry key ?
Anyway, it shows that we should be able to restore the GPS function without going through a HardReset.
-update 3-
I tried to restore the backup I did before my first hard reste, but without the registry - after that the HTC asked me if it should activate some .exe and .dll (including the VoIPcanvas.dll) ; tried the GPS (with visualGPSCe) : didn't work :-(
I was wondering if some GPS dll could have been modified in the restoration process. There are a bunch of files that deal with GPS :
\Windows :
CleanGPSData (exe?)
CleanGPSData
GPS-icon (icon)
gpsapi
GPSAux
GPSAux.dll.040C
gpsdriver
gpsid
gpsid_HTC
mxiupdate_PA... (4 files)
QGPS_BUT_L (icon)
QGPS_BUT_L2 (icon)
QGPS_BUT_P (icon)
QGPS_BUT_P2 (icon)
QuickGPS
QuickGPS.Exe
QuickGPS (Htlm file)
QuickGPS
QuickGPS_help
However, I couldn't find them in the backup file (I use SPB Backup, which I recommend : you can extract all the files and registry from the backup set to your hard drive). Went to the HTC with resco explorer (you need to deactivate "hide system/Rom files") : those are ROM files, so they are not modified in the restoration process...
--update 4--
Did the same restore as above (update 3) but without accepting the .exe and .dll (warning at loggon) : GPS still not working. I ran "\windows\CleanGPSdata" : GPS still not working.
I found were the ephemeris are stored : \windows\xtra.bin (the registry keys are under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS] : "folder"="\\Windows\\", "path"="", "EEFile"="xtra.bin"). I'm going to play with those, and check they are not corrupted.
--update 5--
I managed to have the GPS working again ! This involved resetting the registry (ie installing the one I backuped after the HardReset), deleting some files (\windows\xtra.bin, GPSLogFile.txt, GPSLogFileBack.txt), desinstalling TomTom as well as all the other VoIP apps, and rebooting.
I'm going to try to reproduce
--update 6--
I've been able to have the GPS working again, without any restoring, just by deleting/modifying some registry entries, deleting some files, and de-installing some progs. Looks like the VoIP functionnality is the one that was messing everything (check if you have VoIPphonecanvas.dll).
Will try to dust my procedure, to remove unecessary steps, and I will post i here
Just to give some hope to those having a GPS issue
Up. Just to give some hope to those having a GPS issue.
ayaeya, looks like you have put in a lot of effort to help us out. Thanks!
My GPS has worked fine for the last few days. I did not install the VoIP program or Skype.
I have attached the VoIP cab that I used on the HD whiched worked fine on my Diamond and Polaris. Both phone do not suffer the same fault.
The only other program I have installed in TomTom 7.4 and I installed Google Maps directly from Google and did not use the version which came with the phone.
easy solution
Had the same problem. Am very grateful for eyaeyas solution. Tried deleting
\windows\xtra.bin, GPSLogFile.txt, GPSLogFileBack.txt. Still no success. Found another copy of xtra.bin in /temp and deleted it. Immediate success!!
So, to recap:
Delete following and soft reset:
\windows\xtra.bin
\windows\GPSLogFile.txt
\windows\GPSLogFileBack.txt
\temp\xtra.bin
(actually, it seems like the problem lies in the two instances of xtra.bin, which, I think, contains ephemeris information, so maybe it is enogh to delete these)
Remember to get new ephemeris file (fast gps) to speed things up.
mikdyb
i'm facing the same problem
suddenly gps stopped functioning
quick gps can't be updated and garmin can't find gps device
com port is set to 4
i follow the instructions and deleted this files and soft reset but no luck
\windows\xtra.bin
\windows\GPSLogFile.txt
\windows\GPSLogFileBack.txt
\temp\xtra.bin
any other options :S
i also have problem with GPS on my HD..
I was using Igo8 and everything was fine...
but in one moment its stoped working..
Igo find gps on port 4 but no signal no satelites...
what to do?
works great
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=596682 . d
well, its the same old story as with earlier rom of udk! on r7 you cannot start quickgps due certificate-error. he earlier provided the quickgps as cab in his thread (i will add in here again)! just install it over included quickgps and now you're able to start quickgps. problem now: after round 79% of downloading quickgps seems to stop and shows error message. now switch to temp folder of polaris. in there you'll see a file called xtra.bin. copy or move this file to windows-directory of polaris. start quickgps and notice that it states a "last download-time", but file is expired... taking a closer look you'll notice that the "download-time" is one hour ahead your polaris-clock!!! this is the reason, why quickgps shows the file as expired. when waiting one hour or changing clock of polaris, everything will be the way its supposed to work.
for sure its not the final solution, but with camera fix posted by EZengin, the latest opera and google maps installed udk Syrius R7 is bomb again and no need for impatiently waiting till r8 will arrive!
possibly the misbehavior of quickgps is registry-related... when looking at hlkm\software\htc\quickgps you'll find keys like "region". changing this one to your country could solve the timezone shift between quickgps and polaris clock - for me it didnt work yet. maybe someone comes up with another idea for setting quickgps to "local-time" of polaris. and of course second problem is, why quickgps doesnt copy downloaded xtra.bin to windows by itself anymore...
cheers!
ps: why did i open a new thread? its quite simple, because everybody using udk-rom or is thinking about using it seems to struggle with this problem and with already 218 pages in original thread every "newbie" is asking for a quickgps-solution every second page again and it soon gets lost... no offence!
all I get is upto 73% and then it fails. has never worked since installing R7 or the so called fix

plz read and start over again (the whole message)...!!! as downloading xtra.bin is only a small step to success.
...or post more detailed what doesnt work for you AFTER applying above steps.
Hi i have a problem whit my quickgps.
I can download the xtra.bin file... but i have no idea of where it goes.
its not in anny temp map or in windows map.
in the registry it says that i should be in "\windows\" map...
annyone has the same problem?
and i downloaded a registry file.
"folder"="\\Windows\\"
that should be right way to type in registry and i have tried whit both one "\" and two "\"
still i canot find the xtra.bin file might be so that no xtra.bin file is created but the quickgps finnish its download.
