Have you guys seen this thing?
http://www.sonyericsson.com/x1/?lc=en&cc=US
It looks freakin' awesome. I know that it isn't out yet, but can anyone make a UI similar to something like this? (or maybe even port it once it comes out or when it leaks )
Looks awesome ! !
I whant !!!!!! Very nice !!!!!!!!
Yeah...I saw it yesterday on CEBIT . This phone is awesome...

There are better news than that too. I just read in the General forums that someone found an article in Russian that said that the OS is actually WM 6.5, which is said to be a big breakthrough in the history of the WM OS. Plus, this will probably be the final instalment before WM7 comes to life in 2009.
Anyway, I guess it won't hurt to repeat my question... can someone make something like this? tene and A_C, I am looking at you guys
Had a sms from a friend regarding this a few days ago, but I couldn't find the type of processor it's using, hopefully, it'll be faster than most new phones nowadays
Why do we need another thread for the Xperia X1?
There are already 10.000 around here.
Cebit is not thte first place they showed it.
Also Wm6.5 was a canard.
It will be running WM 6.1 (Still not officially anounced by MS).
Processor will be 520Mhz.
For more info: Read the other threads.

I appreciate the input. But if you look closely, my intention was not to open a new thread about the X1 specifically. I am asking if there is a possibility to make a UI similar to the X1's. Sorry for the confusion
Hey!
As i've previously mentioned here once (I think), i started a small forum where I tried to gather all the setups for running Android on various HTC models. Now that the HTC G1 (Dream) is soon released, we will will get some very interesting challenges while trying to build Android ROM's, etc..
This forum is great, but its also very big. Thought that it might be a good idea to have our android resources on a separate forum?
Anyways, thought i could register a domain and such, but for now the forum is at http://www.connect-utb.com/htcandroid
Some of you are there already! Hopefully, with the experienced user base we have here, we can get Android ROMS and whatnot for our HTC models, as the HTC Dream looks rather poor. (Although better devices will surely come in the future).
you must be joking. Android is a total OS unlike apps that we see all over which are portable among HTC devices. It takes months alone just to get Android as it is today for the kaiser. Mostly everything for WM can be ported among other devices which some exceptions to nontouch devices. It'll be a long time until you see Android ported over to more devices than now. My suggestion would be to use a device that's got android projects already in progress or at your nearest convenience to buy a device with android on it.
Think we misunderstand each other, but you dont believe that if we can extract the android ROM from the HTC Dream, and modify and install it on lets say, the Kaiser?
You can always try before saying that it isn't going to work.
I will track this post because i'm very curious by the Android OS.
I get it...and completely understand what this is about...it's HTC...which means theoretically we should be able to at least somewhat get it working...I've started a wizard thread on your new forum in hopes that any information or progress getting it ported over gets posted all in one location for easy access....kudo's for thinking ahead as I dont think android is going anywhere soon and while this forum is very useful it's mostly for winmo devices....nothing wrong with speading the wings a lil bit and branching out...
looking forward to the press conference!!
I would say we should be able to get Android to run on the OS level of our devices, but it will probably need a bit of modifying. However, since it's open source I'm hoping the modifying will be a lot easier because of this.
Hey,
I was just on HTC homepage ( htc.com ), where the G1 is shown.
They printed the specs, which are very similar to the diamond
Same chipset, same rom size, same ram size,...
SO I think, it would be ( maybe easily?) possible to port android to the diamond

Same here!
If my memory does not fail, I remember that one of the first peaks at Android was being run in a Blue Angel. So, I guess there is a big chance that we might in fact be able to see Android running on more than one device (of course, you will have more or less features depending on the device's capabilities and hardware limitations, namely apps that work with an accelerometer, etc).
Maybe, the development should be worth following because as much as I don't want to believe it, my device (Blue Angel) will only trick death for so long (by death I mean not being able to move to newer versions of WM) and we will need a way to pass the time .
HTC Touch Vogue in progress of being ported
Hey don't forget about the senior member "DZO" that started ANDROID porting to HTC Vogue and it is Successful
This is his direct link to the files : http://cs-alb-pc3.massey.ac.nz/vogue
And here is the link to the posting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=382265
I think he did a GREAT job porting Android. I am running Android 0.9 with most of the featuress except installing programs but only because he is the only one that does that. So, he needs help! I am sure... Plus, on this site people are cheeping in for HTC Diamond so he can work on that too...
Here is the link: http://www.myhtcphone.com
So, if you want something done we should start by contributing either money, or programming support! I wish I knew how to program this
ahhhh I wish I would have fully functional Android on my HTC
Thanks for the support! The forums are slightly active now!
Hopefully, we will be able to get Android running more or less flawless soon! As pointed out, its possible!
he he nice link, it seems that there are allready htc devices running with android.
just wondering, is it possible to have dual boot in one device ?
hmmm, seems to have no desktop syncing.. this may be a huge set back for anyone trying to get androig running on another HTC device.

well currently (or in the case of the vogue) android is being booted via haret (a linux bootloaded) running on top of windows mobile.. so i guess its already kind of dual boot
For now, Android has to be run from within Windows Mobile, so no true dual boot yet
Already started
Hey you guys might want to check out the following links. Over at PPC Geeks they already have a thread going:

Diamond doesnt have QWERTY keyboard, so i think it could be on Touch Pro instead
Someone ported Android for BlueAngel?
Please can someone tell me if Android is already running in BlueAngel? If there is a way show me how. Thanks Man!!!
Maybe I'm mistaken, but wasn't Android made so that it can run on a wide range of devices. I, for one, can't wait till its ported to samsung omnia. Damn, that would be good!
@Coldheat,
What does the cab file do? Its an OS, so cab file??
As a stalwart Linux user, I am really excited about the prospect of replacing WM on my xda Orbit with Android, but I seem to have reached a dead end in my search for an Artemis version.
I have got Qtopia running, obviously only a barely functional version, but it's given me hope!
Unfortunately, I'm no programmer and I'm afraid I'm stumped. From what I gather, I need to get the Artemis kernel and compile Android for it, but that is beyond my expertise.
I know enough to tantalised by the prospect, I presume the Artemis kernel must exist because Qtopia runs on the phone, and I know that Android is available, so all it needs is for someone to put the two together right?
Is anyone working on this? I can't offer any programming skills, but I'd be more than happy to be a tester.

Why do you think android will perform better ? Because of some magic "google spell" ?
qtopia does not work properly because there are several hardware features not implemented in the kernel.
Ah ok, showing my ignorance there!
So, the problem is that the kernel for the Artemis is incomplete, so no matter what other software gets layered on top of it, certain parts of the hardware can't be accessed?
I guess this is down to HTC not being open about their hardware?
Ok then, I'll rephrase my question, is there any hope of a fully functioning kernel becoming available for the Artemis, and is anyone working on it at the moment?
I have tried some different version for other mobiles but can just come to the red dot moving left to right and back again forever :O

i too am a linux user and been crying out for android. my main reason is the inability of wm6 to sync with linux. (have you spent hours messing around with synce and all the rest of it to no avail as well?)
can i assume that android will talk to linux???
i too have no expertise but would happily devote time to assisting in testng etc.
there are kindred spirits...
any news about android on artemis? i googled for a long but i didnt find anything newer than october 2008...anyone know something?
Im not going to update this thread anymore.
It has been a terrible experience here.
All the updates from now on will be on irc channel ..
I hope everyone will be happy and excited about this closure.
Cheers.
Cant we have dual boot on the HD2. it will be cool to have android 2.0 and windows 6.5 on the phone, it will surely kick some ass. and do you think that this phone is upgradable to windows 7
Only possible for dual boot as you need to run harret to get it to boot into linux - android stuff.
Acer Liquid, coming on november will bring Android powered by a Snapdragon processor and wvga screen, I don´t know how it works but maybe it´s rom could be ported easier to HD2? and adding the Sense ui from Hero? I´m sorry I know it´s not easy, but since I´m not a developer I just can see these steps inside my head

Cool! I like WinMo, but I would prefer to try Android, and since no hardware is better than HD2´s, and new possibilities to port Android successfully are coming, I think a new monster could be born here
yes, i`m definitally for this thing.... there will be no problem if leo won`t support wm7, if it will be able to run android...
In fact it will support wm7, but thats up to the OEM's if they want to release a wm7 test rom for these cortex 8 devices =].
HTC have says no to android on HD2, so if its going to happen your going to have to do it yourself.
What would be required? Android 1.6+ supports other CPUs including Snapdragon so what else is required to get it to work with Android? Would be very neat.

that would be great, but what makes you so shure??
who wants andorid 1.6 on the hd2. what we want is the full version of android 2.0
Definitly 2.0
maybe the release of a htc android device with the same hardware as the hd2 will make it easier for developers - but better off getting in the mindset that it won't work
the hero has the same processor as the hd1 doesn't it (and android development on that seems very difficult and slow)?

yeh but look at the possibilities of where we were and where we are today. progress is being made every day now, i hope you go throught the irclogs if so, and it takes time to achieve every goal. a seed doesnt grow into a tree in a day, it takes time and thats whats being talked here. so it wont be hard enough for us to get to the deep of the phone when it comes. cheers.

it would be good to see the progress.. I have read the last few pages on the blackstone and haven't seen anything from the developers. Last update was the 18th where it went back from v1.6 to v1.5?
I can't see why time is being devoted to 1.5, surely the focus should be to work on the most up to date version of android than taking a step back.
Obviously i'm not a developer for the android project on the hd1, but if one comes to the hd2 I will donate to a project with quicker progess on android 1.6, preferably 2.0.....
I have one of these HD2's on pre-order just for this reason I hope I can get something accomplished, and am willing to work on flashing and dumping things
if anyone so asks, as soon as I have it in hand.
Ill be working on it myself too.

wow .. so do i man !! im buying only for the sole pupose of seeing android on this phone
I'm just wondering why there is not so much activity to develop and/or improuve further the WM7 for HD2? any special reason for that?
I tought that after the port, there will be quite a lot of cookers who will make things better. Until this point of time, there is only one ROM.
Maybe one of you knows why.....
yes ive been wondering the same thing, can someone educate us plz

You are right, if you relate to xda.
There is no kitchen on xda, but DFT cooked this, so for sure they have to have something. So I guess, the question changes a bit: Why there is no available tools for the cookers?
lol, patience.
You would also benefit from doing a little reading in the windows phone 7 forum to understand the hard work in the early days.
You will also know that MS is releasing an update soon to close the unlock loop hole, although schaps is working on this
You are right and I am aware about all of this.
MS will realease the update and is clear that DFT or someone else has already a "way to keep WM7...running" no doubt about that.
Somehow I've got the impression if the first release is out -everybody will try to cook. Now the question comes: from where the guys knew that MS will try to close this gap and they are keeping hiding the kitchen until 1st update from MS?
Sounds like theory of cons... but yeah...just some toughts...
Anyway, I'm using WM7, great for bussiness part.
The idea is that it was expected a burst of rom's, but seems with WM7 they are....holding a bit. In the end, will be good, I know, but if I look in the history: wm6, 6.5, android....it was that burst and now is not.
Cheers,
Seba
WP7 is young, we can use it on our HD2 for maybe 2 or 3 weeks. Just be patient. And the DFT will know, why they don't provide us information about wp7 and maybe there's a good reason. It would be interesting to know, how the update frequency is on wp7, when microsoft get to work with updates on it.
We have not to be worried about microsoft and our modified wp7, because they said that they have no problems with this.
In a month you'll find more wp7 roms as you can imagine xD
