I've loaded some photos onto specific contacts so they show up in the TouchFlo People tab as speed dial links. The photos look crap when they're shown in the flickable list. I've tried all resolutions (from large to small). One photo looks fine (no idea why) but others look like really heavily compressed jpegs.
Photo slides in the Photos tab look just as bad. The original ones loaded onto the machine looked fine but whatever resolution I try for my own images they look heavily compressed and pixellated. They're all jpegs, just like the originals.
Can anybody help please?
Just recently got the HD Touch myself coming off of the Pro Dual and yea, had the same "issue". Basically had to re-do my photos for contacts; ended up doing 500x500 saved as pngs...
Hope that helps!
Thanks for that. I'll try making some pngs and see if it helps.
Well png images for the People tab has certainly improved things. Thank you for that tip. They also look great in the Photos tab. I guess TouchFlo doesn't know how to optimise png images.
But what about the 'Photos' tab? My albums are full of jpegs and I don't want to have to reproduce them as pngs just for the bloody TouchFlo screen. Why do the original photos look so much better?
There are people in this forum complaining about the sharpness of the TouchFlo background image, but am I the only one whinging about these album pics? Grrr...
Try using photo album, then choose the photo and assign to contact.
i used the people tab and from there added the people and then choose menu --> change picture. looks a lot better and no resizing pictures needed.

I've tried all ways and the png method is the only thing that made a difference.
I had the same prob....You need to add the photo from the people tab using the menu button, they look fine if you do it this way.
I found the way that gave the best quality by far was to add them via the Favourite People tab as a 256 x 256 JPG. A bit of a pain in the arse to do but at least you only have to do it once.

calvin55 is right - I had the same problem and then moved good pictures into "My Pictures" folder and then from the photo album used the "assign to contact" option.
Big improvement !
OK, I've taken a photo of the screen to show you what I mean about the poor quality images in the Photo tab. Hopefully it's clear what's wrong with the preview image...
I confirm that the album method works fine and fix this problem.
Create thumbnails of your choice and move them all to My Pictures folder.
Then open Album, choose an image, and 'Save To Contact'. works great.
Can I remind all people to read the tips & tricks part of the wiki
It already has the solution to your problem amongst other tips/tweaks you may all like
Hi Res Contact Photos
Assign contact photos on your SD card directly to specific contacts for hi-res thumbnails. If you assign contact photos in Outlook and then sync, the contact photos on your phone will be low-res.
All contact photos should be saved to My Pictures folder on your Storage card
Normally, People will go to
>>menu>>change picture>>name.jpeg
But that will give u low resolution.
Try using this method, it eliminates the trouble to resize or change format.
>>file explorer>>[open pic file]>>menu>>save to contact>>select a contact
and this will solve your problem

Is there a set resolution or size the picture has to be so it can be clear in the box? Thanks!
i have the same question cause my pictures are distorted
My pictures are currently set to 2MP, there is no distortion in the pic whatsoever. The only problem is that it takes a while for the pictures to load up, i'm not sure if its because they are located on the storage card or because of the large resolution of the picture. Whats the resolution of the pictures you use???
I'm pretty sure that we can assume phonebook pics are saved onto the phone itself, not storage card... because if you take your storage card out, the pictures should still work.... plus that's built into the whole outlook/contacts part of the phone.
Whenever I'm cropping pictures I usually make them somewhere in the range of 150x150 - 200x200 or somewhere along those lines. It just depends... I haven't really sat there and thought about it too hard.
actually i do have the same problem. the pictures are shown very small and blurry this is even though the original pictures are pretty large and sizable...
is there any problem to customize the incoming call window anyway
my resolutions are SUPER high like 1600x1200 and its still blurry
yeh same here my pictures are 2mb in size from an 8 megapix camera soo i dont why its still blurry i tried puttin it in the phone insteead of the storage card but its still blurry
make the photos .png, I use that hand have very nice pictures
yeh no luck with the .png either
anyone care to post am image of a distorted image...
what do youll use to get a screen shot sorry iam new at this???
I actually think your images may be too large, you are using 2mp images with a very high res and then squeezing them down to a very small part of a 240x320 screen, try resizing your pictures down to say 200x200 or somthing like 120x160, this will also make them much smaller and save mem, and load much faster ...
all my contact pictures, for the dialer are like 240x240 and they all look fine ...
Using a 2mp image on a 240x320 screen is just going to wast your memory anyway ....

it doesn't really eat the memory, only uses .1mb to access but the main problem is that it takes a while to load up the pics, and they only load one at a time. will try the resize
As for taking a pic of the screen
http://www.pocketpccity.com/software/pocketpc/graphics-screencapture-datesort-1.html
True it does not waste memory, unless you are not storing the pics on a storage card, then it just eats storage memory for the large pic, but storing pics that big in main mem, would just be silly anyay ...
yeh i tried resizing it still blurr....
"update"
ok finally got it after I installed pocketcm the pictures cleared up thanks guys for ur help
its not really a matter of picture size, what i found is that is actually a problem with the orientation of the picture.
when the phone is in normal view, HTC home screen crops the picture, very baddly. the picture gets a square ratio, but when HTC home screen is in the landscape orientation, the same blurry pictures now look perfect. what i've done is to change all my pictures to have a square ratio or atleast a vertical 4:3 ratio
my 2 cents
how does pocketcm work? helps a lot?
The Answer
The Answer to the original question is to use the 'Change Picture' from the Menu Button on TouchFlo 3D. For some reason, chaning the picture in either Pocket Outlook or Desktop Outlook distorts the picture and doesn't keep the resolution. I hope that this can solve the thread.
Edit - Sorry if I sound smug but this post was first on my google search but I didn't find the answer for another 2 hours!!! I reckoned this would stop others from having to hunt.
Hi Guys
I got 2 problems related to the Album.
1. My photos appear extremly blurry on the main screen (the part where you flick through them). It's not a huge deal, but I wouldnt mind some focus.
2. When I make my way to a video album the videos are only displayed as windows media icons. No text and no thumbnail video preview. As a result I have to guess which one of the 50 videos is the one I want to show a friend.
Please help me.
Unbelievable
I just can't believe absolutely no-one has a solution, or some advice at the least.
If I can't get help here, I am doomed.
I thought this forum was over-run by brainiacs.
Guess not.

Hey!
To be honest....it's not a solution I can offer you...because I think everybody has the same issue with the blurry pictures and no preview video, but I think I can explain why....The main reason I guess it's blurry, is because it will take too much time for the device to pre-load the images on the sceen ie...especially if you have many high resolution pictures, it takes forever to load for every picture...the same with the music...that can also takes some time to load when you slide to the music tab.....
for the video the same reason I guess..
Please anybody...correct me if i'm wrong....
BTW...If you see the amount of views for this topic, you'll see that a lot of people see your problem, but don't have a solution for it....so please newby...don't complain allright??? we all try to help each other......
I had the same problem very blurry photos. But I solved it on mine.
Copy the original photos onto your diamond into the internal storage. I put mine in my pictures for while I did this.
Then on the diamond go onto your people tab and on each of your favourite people click on the menu bottom (bottom left).
Select change picture.
Then select the photo from the location you copied them too earlier..
That's it.
Do that for each of your favourite people.
It seems outlook contacts get saved with much lower resolution photo's but if you add the photo's on the phone it's a much higher res.
Carl
BTW I deleted the folder I'd copied into internal storage once i'd completed this and the photo's all stayed so there's no need to have the copied photo's permanently on the phone

That's a good answer nice man! I knew the problem was also on the Favorites Contacts tab, where the photo's were blurry as well, but I didn't know you could also fix it on the Photo/Video Tab...!
Nice tip!
me confused
Capt_Carl, I think you are confusing "blurry pictures in Photo & Video Tab" (my problem) with "blurry contact pictures in the Favorite People Tab" (solved this a while ago).
Am I just misunderstanding Capt_Carl.
What do you think Pietje_1985?

Yes....to be honest...i'm confused as well.. because of the fact that I knew there was a problem with the Favorite People tab and the pictures, but for the Photo/Video tab, I still think you can't solve that problem....... I thought Capt_Carl had the answer, but I think not after I read your post MaD-CoW
Ne ways...I hope maybe somebody else is familiar with the problems and somebody has got a solution to it.....
Cheers
Bump
Has anyone solved the blurry photos in the photo & video tab?
I have the same problem. 700 views and still no luck. I'll wait.
I'll join in the wait as well.
Update?
Maybe an update to the new official ROM 2.03 could help?
With the 2.03 ROM the problem started for me. On 1.93 it was fine.
Make the pictures 240x320
When I take photos and open Album app to view, the thumbnail previews of the photos look very saturated and posterised.
Any tips?

Yeah, I mentioned it here.

BTW, they also look the same if you put your card in another phone, or as thumbnails on your PC ??!!
It's not a solution but, if you change the setting Quality to super fine (my ROM is French "Super fin") the thumbnails are over satured, if you put back standard setting (fine), there is no over satured thumbnails.
It's a bull**** but maybe it could make htc make a patch.

Yes, oversaturated on PC too.
When someone calls me I don't see any quality on my 2400x2400 px photos.
I had 96x96 first, I tried 400x400 and 800x800, I came to conclusion that resolucion is not the problem.

It makes a contact image out of the one you supply, rather than directly using your image. For example, if you delete an image that is linked to a contact, that contact will still show the image.
It'll be the process of resizing the original image that's the problem. If you've ever used graphics apps, you're sure to know that the different methods of resizing can have very different effects, and there is no consistent "best method".
Yes, I am familliar with photoshop.
But if you look on the photo on computer is in great quality.
After I copied the photo on micro sd I linked new photo to the contact. And the quality is the same. So my conclusion is that phone doesnt "resize" it properly.
Maybe would it work if I resize photo to the same resolution as phone shows on incoming call, so phone would not need to resize it?
But how can I know what widht and height, which are probably the same, he uses?
I think the best thing you could do is to try and find where the contact image thumbnails are kept on the phone. You could then view the properties of them to see what size they are.
I'm afraid I can't do that, I believe that contact photos are merged into outlook's contact cards...

I'd be very suprised if they're not stored somewhere simply as thumbnail images. That's how WM works for everything else I've looked into.
Hi!
I found something weird when I was surfing my images by htc albums … I had faced to this problem, bug, or whatever you call in my computer’s win7 before, but in my HD2 that is really huge! … the problem is that image thumbnails are not updated, means if you have a cropped or edited image, you will see the thumbnail as the original image! … I cannot give you a screenshot of that from my ppc cause the images are something private, a friend sent them to me, and I’ve not checked this problem for other images but I can give you the screenshot (attachment, it is not mine, i have found it as an example) which shows the problem in windows7 pc just to know what I mean!
But as I said, this problem in htc albums is more obvious. Cause I could see the thumbnails showing the original images which for I was not able to see those thumbnails even in win7 pc … in fact I thought they are ok cause they were ok in pc (thumbnail and image were matching each other) but as I brought them in htc album, found out they were cropped!
you can check it if you have some pics which are cropped or edited … put them in a folder in your ppc … go to htc albums, now you can see the thumbnails differ from the original images … to see more original images; click on one of them, try to quickly go to the next images … it will take fraction of a second to load the images so it shows temporarily the thumbnail (which has lower resolution), quickly tap and hold the screen to stop loading image!!! Now you can watch the thumbnail how long you want … holding the screen try to go to the next images (drag the image to the right or left in landscape and up or down in portrait … for a moment release ur finger and quickly tap and hold the other side of the screen by another finger, now you can drag the next thumbnail to the center of the screen without loading) and watch all the cropped or edited images in original type, one by one!
This can be annoying, and for someone like me may be useful!
I wanted to know, how can I have those thumbnail freely?? I mean without trying to watch them like that! I want the thumbnails separately! Any idea?
Sorry if I have not chosen the right place to post my thread!
Thanks for attention!
I can see two causes.
HTC album can have problems with refreshing thumbnails. If the file has same name as some picture which was in the same folder, there could be a problem.
The other cause could be that JPG can have thumbnail inside. Some album software can use this thumbnail, instead of creating it's own. As HTCAlbum is pretty fast in displaying thumbnails, I guess it is the case.
Then it is problem of the editing software. It cropped the image, but left the old thumbnail. Try to safe the image to BMP and then open the BMP and save it to JPG again .. that should remove the inlined thumbnail no matter what.

thanks for reply!
the images have been cropped by windows xp photo viewer, the crop tool!and have been edited by windows xp paint! i have searched for this problem and found out the other programs like windows7 live photo gallery will cause to this problem!
i said i dont really want to solve this problem, i wanna have these thumbnails separately! ... don't you know where htcalbum saves the thumbnails?? cause windows7 (pc) explorer shows some of the thumbnails (original image) but htcalbum shows almost all the thumbnails in original type!!and even in higher resolution in comparison to pc thumbnails!
in computer, i have tried to refresh the windows thumbnails cache to update them but no use!
anyway, i want to find where those thumbnails are saved in winmo!
seems no one can help!
