Hey guys,
well i've been waiting for a week now and my bodygaurdz hasnt come in the mail yet and guess what? i dropped my phone today on cement that has the pebbles in it so it just thrashed my phone. I can like 10 lil scratches in it on the front of all places. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on scratch removers?
Here are the two I was looking at on amazon.
Displex<--Bad idea read it's bad for touch screens

Idrops

Radtech Ice Cream

Applesauce

wow, that's pretty cool, I was looking for something to take the deep scratch on my tilt. Good info.
also, will body guards cover up the scratches or will it make it even more noticeable?
Bodyguarz does help cover up some minor scratches but it might still be visible. I'm using the shield right now and its not really that great. Makes the touch screen less sensitive by a reasonable amount.
If anyone gets this done, please post up the results. I have 2 scratches I'd love to get rid of!
none of them work for touch screens so it would be bad idea to use\
looks like they are only able to fix screens and shells of ipods and such
ice creme says it works for iphone 3g but only works for back if you read.
i recommend : iDrops
ive used it on my Zune, Tilt and Fuze..works wonders, adds a wicked shine to ur screen ..and its only $15 bucks too..if u look hard enough u can find it on Ebay for $8 or $9 bucks

But Jstar you have actually used idrops on your touch screen and it fixed the scratches without damaging the screen or reducing the screen responsiveness?
ok so i ordered Ice Cream and it works pretty good. it does get minor scratches out. My scratches were pretty bad so it reduced them significantly but it took a lot of time and several coats. Of course as all scratch removers they are not miracle workers and it just takes patience to use them.

I have a scratch/small abrasion on the chrome part (of course the part that the Invisible Shield doesn't cover...)
Did you use this on the chrome part or the screen?

Some of you people may find this gayish but I am worried about how "scratchable" is the screen?
Ok, I can live with the fingerprints, simply wiping the device from time to time, but having some scratches on that marwellous screen would be a real disaster.
So far I can rank some devicer in terms of hardness of their screens' plastic:
1) iPhone (some kind of glass or smth.. hard to scratch)
2) HTC Diamond / PRO (plastic, but pretty hard though)
3) SE Xperia X1 (plastic, but i get the feeling of nearly scratching it with my nails)
So, where would you guys think the Touch HD would be?
PS: while answering, please omit alternatives of using screen protection film. Looks ugly and the efects a very manufacturer-dependant.
Thank you.
anyone?........
gayish...???
gayish...??? what is that???
Not sure how you can expect accurate feedback on this (i.e actual resistance to scrathing rather than just a feeling) without someone actually testing it (possibly accidently) on thier lovely new gadget
Also:
"PS: while answering, please omit alternatives of using screen protection film. Looks ugly and the efects a very manufacturer-dependant."
To be honest, a well designed and well applied screen protector is practically invisible (imho). Particularly with flush devices, since you don't get the edge around the recess.
I just applied one to the wife's iPhone a couple of months back and she did not even notice it. But she also dropped the phone the other day and I think it's time to order a new protector. Perhaps the screen would have survived scratch free, but I'd rather not take that chance
Zuber
Just my thoughts, Zuber.
A good screen protector, applied carefully, with patience! is a great thing! I use the Javoedge screen protectors and they are excellent. Doesnt even feel as if its there!
Just put one on my wife's iPhone yesterday, and there is no difference between using the device with the screen protector, and its not looking one bit different to "without" it.
I've tried the GadgetShieldz for my HTC Touch HD and it's really good, it installs quite fast and I paid $13.50 for two units. I will be testing my keys on it later today. Check it out:
http://www.gadgetshieldz.com/smartphones-pda.html
Nails will definitely not dent it!
scratchable
I scratched my screen after about a week. Best I can figure is it was on a metal rivet in my jeans just above my pocket... the scratch drives me crazy. I bought a replacement screen cover for about $20 and I'm waiting for the weekend to install it. There are many examples of these on ebay, here is one.
Dont' have a lab that can do experiment and tell you the hardness....but one thing for sure, HTC screen is scratch resistant. Had it for 6months, kept my screen sparkling clean all the time by cleaning it with microfibre cloth everyday. Till now, not a single scratch can be seen...happy with it!
Was in a Mac shop once, the iPhone sales person demonstrated the hardness of iPhone sceen by scratching with a pair of Scissors. Any dude dare try this on THD???
All that I've done so far is to take a coin and scratch a THD dummy display set in the shop. Absolutely no issue.....and I believe the dummy screen is the same as the real device.

hey,
seems you applied the GadgetShieldz on your HD. how it looks, is it scratch free?

Zagg
I just bought my wife an iphone (2nd hand) which came with a Zagg shield (the whole phone not just the screen). Amazing stuff, seems unscratchable. The only thing with the full body shield is that it is impossible to get on 100% perfectly.....still....it's staying on and after a year (that's how old the phone is) the shield doesn't have a mark on it. There's a youtube video of someone scratching an iphone up with a set of keys and then attempting the same on one with a shield. Check it out...I was impressed.
Touch wood, I havent. But wondering if the screen is as resistant as it is said to be?
nope and hoping I never do.. it should be pretty hard to do anyway, check out the youtube vid hd2 and knife..!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYZF0e3HVaI
No. In use since 1,5 month. Seems to be really resistant glass.
I have, not sure how though. Thankfully it isn't too deep or long so you can only see it when the screen is off.
ok. so all in all, it looks like a winner so far.
lets see what other responses other Leoers have,....
I use mine for more then month, no scratches so far
I had scratches on other htc phones after a while, but nothing on hd2.
I am very happy with build quality overall.
maybe not but they broke it
I've had mine for a bit more than a month and no scratches here yet. I always use the case that came with though.
I got it screen protected, the protector is falling off but it has no scratches perfection!
Ive had mine for 6 weeks and work on building sites but its still perfect, think the case i got with it is the best for me and stops dust getting in, no screen protector yet but thinking about it?
I've had mine for about 2 months and I don't use any kind of case or protector............... no scratches yet (not even surface ones)
*touch wood*
Started from day 1 with the HTC screen protector; however its virtually impossible to put on without leaving unsightly bubbles behind so I took it off yesterday.
Really not comfortable about leaving the screen without a protector no matter what people say but if I can't find a protector that stays on without making the screen look like I left icing sugar all over it then it will have to stay naked.
I tend to have the phone in a case virtually all the time now (paranoia, I'm afraid).

Whoa, that was hard to watch at first! Amazing how it comes out perfectly.
Using for a few weeks now and no scratches. Always in HTC sleeve/case (whatever you want to call it)
No stratches after month
No stratches after a month of intensive use, but I am getting annoyed with my greasy fingers ruining the view. Its my fault because I need to moisturise , but I was wondering if anyone has a screen protector that resists the grease like the iPhone 3GS is suppose to...?
I don't believe in screen protectors which reject grease. Rather keep a piece of soft cleaning cloth available.

Mate you're not alone, I've been treating mine with kid gloves, being so overly careful with it but recently I've eased off because this thing is virtually indestructable! *touch wood*
The cat stepped on the screen while it was out on the table, Wolverine claws dragged across the front but nothing, not a scratch! The rubber parts on the back have been rubbed around while sat in the holder between driver and passenger seat in the car, it's even slipped off the back of the gearbox area while cornering and there's not a mark on it! Hats off to HTC for hardening the phone so well, I'm hoping it will continue to be so bullet proof!
P.S. This is without screen protector, leather case only
i have mine for almost 2 months now and no scratches for me either
90% of its time its in its htc leather pouch that came with it and no screen protectors..
the build quality of leo looks really good so i believe it will stay scratchless for a long time... (preferably for ever)

Had mine for month and a half was using sleeve but then purchased a full body "invisible shield" for it, not to much problem to put on without bubbles (watched a lot of You Tube videos!) and the few that were there disappeared once the shield had cured and dried, I'm afraid I wasn't taking any chances, the cover isn't to bad for fingerprints either, got a micro fibre cloth to deal with that.
hi all,
i just acquired an hd2(yey!) and im just wondering if the screen is scratch proof. it did not come with any screen protector and we dont have it available yet in our country. so im a little jumpy regarding the screen. so is it scratch proof/resistant? can i not put any screen protector on it?
thanks!
Isn't it glass like the iPhone? Nothing short of metal keys will scratch the screen I believe. I don't bother using a screen protector on my ipod touch and there's no scratches but my friend's keys scratched his to hell and back.
true that it is glass. im just tad worried in wiping the screen with a cloth or something. i have an ipod touch with a screen protector. really it does not get scratched? i keep my phones and itouch AWAY from anything metal.
thanks!
You may cry or feel sick to your stomach:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcEaehKWr2s
My perspective:
It's a touch screen. It is designed to be touched with fingertips. Nothing sharper than your finger should ever need to contact it.
1) Buy a micro-fiber cloth to clean it and 2) always carry the HD2 in the very nice included leather case when not in use.
Wipe it down with the micro-fiber cloth when necessary to remove smudges, and with just a little very basic care, scratches should not be an issue.
I wouldn't take it to the beach and body surf on it, but it is pretty resistant to scratches, in my experience. I highly doubt you'll ever get a scratch if you follow simple common sense principles of use like the one's I described above.
What Donalgodon said. Keep it away from keys and don't mistake your cleaning cloth with sand paper and you'll be golden.
so is it scratch proof? my package did not have any screen protector. i asked htc and they dont know. i have to call them back after 2 hrs... tsk tsk

Nothing is totally scratch proof, but in all honesty and sincerity, I do not think any reasonable person who exercises any level of due diligence in using their HD2 needs a screen protector, or any other kind of super deluxe, super shell kryptonite diamond laser embossed anal-retentive vault to carry it around in.
It's a tool. Use it. If you are too worried about it, then you should find something you can live with (or without) if something happened to it.
I don't mean that to sound flippant, I am just trying to inject a little perspective, because it is easy to get carried away thinking that it needs to be treated like a Faberge egg.
It's scratch resistant. Under normal operating use, you shouldn't be able to scratch it really. I doubt anything is "scratch proof".
thanks for the reply everyone. im just so excited in playng with the pone due to its screen but i am very hesitant in doing so. ive had a number of htc devices and all came with screen protector. this is the first one i got so im quite hesitant touching and wiping the screen.
leather case rocks!
I totally sympathize with you. I made the mistake of not putting a screen protector on a Touch Pro and I have always regretted it. But that screen was made from flismy plastic, this one is glass.

due care should be there but functionality should be maximized. its a good thing that it is scratch resistant.
See the Vikuiti range of screen protectors for the HD2 - best on the market imho.

i was the same till i got a screen protector, they available on ebay and cheap,
You have a phone thats worth almost up to the price of £500, buy a £10 screen protector
Its one of those sods laws, you can watch that scratch video and see it with stand it all, BUT it always happens when you ARE being careful
i guess ill try to purchase one as soon as it becomes available. i think we dont have it yet and the screen protector usually comes with a silicone case or something.

Whilst some argue it doeesnt need it or why bother if you are that padentic over it, at the end of the day they are a few $ on ebay so why on earth wouldnt you put one on. its so easy to do and does offer more protection so for such a cheap price delivered straigth to your door, i dont see you would want to think about it.
Just be warned some are not as good quality as others and can look ugly as it doesnt stick properly. Ive got one on from Ebay, you wouldnt even know its there.

Weird, I have my Zagg on and it looks fine. Unless of course your talking about when the screen is off.
I'm using an XtremeGuard which I got off eBay for $2.50. It is wonderful!! It had bubbles and stuff when the screen was off when I first put it on, but EVERYTHING cleared up within 2-3 days. I used a mild soapy water to put it on, so it was kinda "rainbow" looking when the screen was lit up, but all of that has since dried up. The screen is crystal clear both on and off. If you didn't know there was a screen protector on there, you would see it. You can tell by touching it, it feels a little more grippy, which I actually like. Also it hasn't intefered with the performance of the touchscreen as well, I'm 100% satisfied with it.

Mine looked terrible at first too, but after about a day, I guess the liquid fully dried and it didn't look cloudy anymore.
Bought a 3-pack from a Sprint store.
Don't use the anti-glare one. It significantly lowers the image quality.
It's akin games which use the film grain effect, except here you'd want the clarity instead of fancy effects.
Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate it. I guess it only looks bad because I got a few scratches on the screen protector itself but I guess that's why you buy them in the first place. I might call to get a replacement if it gets any worse, these have a lifetime warranty.

That is exactly the reason I don't use a screen protector. They are made out of plastic and will scratch easily. The glass that is covering the LCD is made out of glass and VERY difficult to scratch. Seems like a waste of money to me. I had 3 iPhones and never had a scratch in the glass.
Did not work for me
I bought an invisi shield Saturday and they put it on my phone, I have had problems typing with it. I even tried to recalibrate the typing but it was not even able to type the first letter. Therefore, I took the front shield off and i am able to type with no problem now. Sucks.. maybe they put it on wrong because my wife's phone is working fine with it on. Life time warranty on it so Im going to take it back and have them try it again.

How is the fit on that screen protector? Does it fit exactly all the way around? Is there a space around the edges?
Thanks!
I just got a screen protector put on mine (first time ever having one on) and now it screws up my swyping in... swype... it confuses it... messed with settings and everything.... pain in the...
+1 for Anti-Glare.
I know most people do not like them because they "reduce" the colors or quality of the screen, but I like the fake that it provides a smooth surface and doesn't leave any fingerprints compared to Crystal-Clear screen protectors
I got the Zagg (actually I am on the second one, as the first came off in my pocket and got covered with lint).
I should say that Zagg is great, they sent me a new one with no questions asked and even waived the shipping, since the replacement was requested so quickly after purchase.
In any case, I am now second guessing my decision after viewing a youtube video on the scratch resistance of the screen.
Just go to youtube and search for "HTC EVO screen test". (sorry, as a new user I am unable to post the link).
Here's the link. Pretty impressive.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeoAl-94bks
I've used all kinds of screen protectors for all my devices until the ZuneHD, which is supposed to have Corning Gorilla Glass, supposedly super scratch resistant. Long story short, i pulled it out of my pocket where it was by itself and it had a nice fat scratch on the surface. Brought it back to Best Buy, got another one, and swearing to never trust any claims to scratch resistance.
Using a clairvue clear on my Evo 4g, and clairvue antiglare on a tp2, and a martin fields on a tp1, all 3 are well protected and i've never been happier.
Hey was wondering how is the screen holding up. Do you guys having any scratches on them or anything? I'm debating on whether to take mine off
It's a very tough screen, mine is still in mint condition w/o a screen protector, but I never leave any sharp objects such as keys in the same pocket as my phone either.
No scratch at all, looks like new... (other than the rest of the device).
And I never used any "protective" thingies.

I've had my HD2 for 14 months and there are no scratches on it at all. When I first got it I saw the well known youtube vid of a guy trying to scratch his HD2 screen and failing. One night I was drunk and decided to show this to a mate, so I took a bottle cap and went to work with my screen, as hard as I could! We were both very impressed at the results (or lack of), but I noticed not long after that you could see where I had scratched it when I'd run my finger over it. If I wiped it clean then you couldn't see it at all. It was VERY feint, but it was there when smudged.
However, it's now 100% disappeared, even after major use.
I used to have a screen protector, but no longer bother. It's obviously always recommended not to put your phone in your pocket with keys & loose change etc., but this screen is THE BEST screen I've ever had on a phone.
I think it only needs a minimum of common sense and it will live for a looooooooooooong time!
Took mine off month ago, and very happy I did. It did nothing but lessen screen sensitivity and slightly dull viewing.
The glass on the screen can't withstand every stracth known to man, but it's pretty tough. Usually, the people with really messed up glass dropped theirs and the glass BROKE.
Here's the scratch test video and here's another thread about this where others share their thoughts and experiences.
I have just avoided putting in the same pocket as my keys, so far so good.
Wow that's pretty cool. I think I'm still going to keep one on though. To me its sort of like insurance. I may not need it often, but when I do, I sure will be glad I have it!

AHHH!!! They really need to move that damn thanks button, but thanks for that
To be honest, if it gives you peace of mind and doesn't have an adverse effect (sensitivity & brightness mainly) then yeah, keep it on.
I have my HD2 about 1,5 years now, and the screen didn't have a scratch at all. Unfortunately the back plate loses it clear finish, but that's acceptable.
Almost a year and no scratches whatsoever. I do keep it in a case whenever I am carrying it around, though. The only wear I can see at all are some indentations in the material on the top right corner of the handset.
Hi,
Got a cover, no scratch at all, like many people, i don't mix keys/smartphone screen, the best way to damage it !
almost a year and no scratch at all. I must say I guard it with my life.
it never leaves my sight and is always in it's original leather pocket.
I had a HTC Touch Cruise before and it was a plastic restitve touchscreen.
Even that thing was okay and usable after 3 years... It had many deep scratches but with backlight on you only saw them a bit and it wasnt a problem for the usability
The screen of the hd2 really needs some effort to get scratched. In my opinion a screen protector is useless, because the power that is needet to scratch this screen would easily cut the protector
But i also use the barely there case, to avoid scratches on the housing (put some tape on the corners to avoid damage from case on/off). The screen protector that was with this case gives me a better feeling on the touchscreen, its easier to glide ^^ and i dont have so many fingerprints
^^^
Fingerprints can be easily removed, you know
Mine is over 9 months old, still as good as new .
My secret is "The Magical Original Leather Pouch"
It never gets out of it, unless I want to use it
Is the camera lens cover made from the same material? Does it resist scratches as well as the screen?
I also don't use a screen protector. My phone is kept in a leather belt pouch, but is handled delicately (partially because it is expensive and partially because it is such a beautiful phone).
Got my TMOUS HD2 when they first came out, and screen is still perfect. I do keep it in a pocket by itself though, so no contact with keys or change.
Ive had mine around 14 months now, never used a protector and there's no problems at all with my screen. This is even after I stopped using the leather pouch a few months ago after getting an extended battery and even after dropping the phone a few times!
Almost one year without screen-protector and without case.
Not only one scratch on the screen.
I have two scratches on the screen, but you have to make effort to see them.
I took it to a sandy beach to read books every day all summer long, no protection whatsoever.
It's a great phone.
