Does anyone know of any software that would create a virtual D-pad on the HD? somethign like what the diamond has but a soft keypad on screen?
the screen is so big and i think the HD is missing a D-Pad (as discussed in the poll) its something alot of people have got used ot using and i cant live wihtout.
Maybe a cooker could make one up - il definately be in for donating!
You can use this to get a short press of the vol up/down buttons acting as cursor up/down if that helps... http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php

Hi Vijay, I try your keypress utility on my Universal. However, have problems setting a "shift" key on the videocall hard botton. I changed the value to 16 according to the keylist. Any advice on this? Thanks.
stanip: this should be moved to the VJKeyPress thread...
VJKeypress can be used to simulate a key press, but for shift, it's like on your pc, just pressing shift and releasing. It won't do anything. I imagine what you want to do is simulate pressing and holding shift, to make CAPITALS. It doesn't do that.
I did make a set of programs to do this, pressing and holding shift, ctrl and alt, but I didn't release them because Tom Hiro's PQz came along and is an amazingly useful program. Try Tom's PQz, and if you get really stuck I'll see about releasing my app. Mine works usefully on non Universals as well, eg Magician (my main phone), but there are issues with the way the Operating System responds to having these keys held down, so it wasn't worth finishing off at the time.
V
Vijay, PQz is a great tool but I failed to find any feature to set a "shift" key for capital letters... Have been looking for this as I use Word quite often. The right shift key will save me the thumb stretch reaching out to the other side. Thanks.
stanip: it might be worth asking Tom to add any features you want, he's actively updating it seems!
I will look into the Shift key issue again, but I'm a bit busy on a few other projects. It might happen soon if I can get it out.
V
Vijay, already suggested to Tom... believe he is prioritizing it. Initially thought the keypress could solve this one faster.
It would be great if yours could help with this request.
I've been searching for a while for a re-mapper/utility that will remap the d-pad to move around the numbers while on the Phone screen. Currently the D-pad does nothing while you're in the Phone dialing or call screen. It would make the Wiz into a great one-handed device if I can get the D-pad to move around the on-screen numbers pad. The center button can emulate pressing of the on-screen numbers. This way I can use one hand to enter the phone number and not having to use use my hands or the stylus while on-the-go.
I know I can slide out the keyboard but are you able to slide the KB out with 1 hand and use the number keys? I tried and it's VERY awkward and you'll have to remember to press the dot twice to enable the numbers. I'd rather not do that in a time of emergency.
Any one has tried to make this happen? Is there an app out there which will do this? This plus smartkeys/smallmenu will make the Wiz the ultimate one-handed device.
Anyone? am I the only one with a Wiz wishing for this function? I guess people like touching the screen with their hands more than I thought...
I would really be interested in something that could achieve this. I have my K-JAM in a PDAir case and being able to simply dial numbers with the keypad would be great. Rather than scroll through the contact list or opening the cover to access the keypad.
On Himalaya the D-pad had function in the dialer to get to call history and speed dial. That would help too.

I want that too!! Like was in my Magician...
hi all,
A cool Japanese Freeware called FakeCursor does this. It doesn't tab between fields, but emulates a Dpad controlled 'mouse'.
There is a program called AEKmap that allows you to remap the keyboard.
I have attached several layouts I made for the Phone and Calculator for use with AEKmap. (2 of the layouts work in AEKmap free mode, the other 6 require $20 activation to avoid NAG screen.)
Joeman
btw on my qtek9100 the keyboard is automatically in number mode while in the phone application. I don't need to push the blue dot twice.
I'd just as soon se a remapper that brought back the WM 2003SE phone functionality (right - Call Histtoey, left - Speed dial, etc.)
It's a shame M$ took that out in WM5

*Everyone else there*
"BRILLIANT!!!"

Did anyone create an aek file for mapping the alfa keys of the hardware k/b to the phonepad values.
ie: pressing a, b or c generates the code that is recognized by smartdialer (and interpreted as a, b or c respectively)
This way we can use the h/w keyboard letter-keys in the smartdialer!
This is especially handy when youre using the Wizard in your car in the landscape brodit holder (on-screen 'keys' are simply too small to be used safely)
it would be very cool.
wonder if Water can extend SmartyKeys for that - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060

that man is a genius!
hello.
this is my first post, and my english is too bad..... i´m sorry!
I have a new Htc Touch HD, but i have two problems:
-when i actualized opera and flash, i´ve lost the zoom button in the left - down corner. i need it! help please! i´ve not the zoom option in the configuration menu.
-I´ve downloaded too many aplications and games, and they need a dpad for use or play them. I dont know if exists any aplication to simule dpad in the touch screen with virtual buttons. normaly this aplications have a smaller resolution, i have enough screen to put virtual buttons of dpad. nobody knows something?
THANKS.
Hello everybody,
Today, I have HTC Wizard with a lot of hardware keys . I like the blackstone but I'm affraid to see that there is no hardware keys (no Dpad). I use applications that work only with Dpad (no touchscreen functions).
Have you solution to have software direction pad when applications run (Like the soft direction keys on the virtual keyboard)?
The standard SIPs provided by HTC all have "virtual" arrow keys. Most apps will work fine with these, provided that they play nice when the SIP keyboard is enabled.
Also, I'm sure D-pad specific SIPs will appear soon, and I'm hoping for a virtual D-pad solution + WVGAFIX3 combo. The 160 rows of leftover pixels when in 480x640 mode would be just great for 4-directional buttons and and action/Enter key.
However, I've had the HD for a couple of weeks, and I can honestly say that I don't miss the D-pad at all. I migrated from a smartphone (HTC Vox), so I was definitely wary. I've found that most apps/games (and the WM 6.1 GUI) work fine with touch (as they well should, on WM Professional). For the really small buttons, a finger nail or stylus is needed, but I find these occasions to be rare.
The worst example I've come acroos is Opera Mini (essential on my Vox), which is practically unusable on the HD without the stylus. Then again, I don't miss Mini when I have Opera Mobile.
Would you care to elaborate a bit on the apps you need to use?

Hi,
I had problems to map hardware keys ( slider keys ) with Morph Button.
Every time I mapped a button it show the key code 229.
I read the post Key Assign Problem (Morphgear+PocketGBA) ,
( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425646&highlight=morphgear ) here at XDA Dev.
It seems the HTC Touch Pro have the same Problem.
After few hours I solved the problem.
All you need to do is:
1.
- Go to button setting in Morph Gear.
- before click the assign button press and hold the Strg key
- then you can enter the hardware key you want
now you can play by holding Strg and the mapped keys
2-
- go to global menu in Morph Gear
- in the submenu Input: click Polling Method
now it works
But in Genppc 1.09 I still can not configure keys.
Hope this helps somebody
Sorry for my english
Strg key?
Hi Bub3d
Sorry to be a dunce but can you clarify what you mean by the "Strg key"?
Thanks

Better known as Ctrl to us non german keyboard users.
However, this doesnt work on my dutch pro 2.

I'm sure there is a way to play without holding down the Ctrl (Strg) key all the time. I did it before I just don't know how I did it. Can somebody help me out?
Just remove eT9.
Button Mapping will work with all emulator and games now, like on my old Hermes.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409]
"Layout Text"="COMP IME"
"Ime File"="compime.dll"
Hope it helps.
Worked perfect! thanks a million. Thank god cause without multi-touch, mario is near impossible to play with the touch-screen!!!

worked for me too, thanks!
What does STRG stand for?
What were the original registry values for enabling eT9? Can someone check for me, please?

I have a sprint touch pro 2 and did the above and i still can't map keys in morph gear. Can someone post the eT9 string that i deleted so i can put it back??? Also what does deleting this do???
Not working on my Sprint Touch Pro 2 either.... any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
I solved the Sprint TP2 morphgear button mapping issue. When you go to map the keys, click the little "..." to bring up the "request button to map" pop-up.
Now, click on the bottom center of the screen to bring up the keyboard. When the keyboard is up, next to that same icon is an upwards arrow. Click that and it will give you input methods. It might be on something like "Full QWERTY", but change this to "Keyboard". You should now see a virtual keyboard different from the usual one. This maps perfectly to the slide out keyboard. Use the virtual keys to do the mapping, use the slide out to play.
dont forget to set polling methot or else it wont work
srry for my english

For the record, this also works for Tilt 2 and is my preferred solution.
No need to edit registries. Also, you don't have to hold Ctrl to play nor disable eT9, which brings other problems like not being able to edit the eT9.*.txt keymapping text files.

How do you prevent the "Input Mapping" window from disappearing when you bring out the virtual keyboard? Everytime I click on the bottom center virtual keyboard button, the "Input Mapping" window disappears and then the keyboard shows up. It's like the chicken before the egg scenario!
