Try hard resetting your device, and make sure that you hit the "No Yes Yes" options correctly. It seems that you may have an unclean hive. Hope this helps...

You were doing the Hard Reset when you press Power + Soft Reset.
The YES, NO, NO, thing is:

After flashing and soft-resetting, you have to hold power + record +WMP button on the side of the unit and you will be prompted with three options to which you must put "No Yes Yes" (do this by using the side buttons record and WMP). Once you have set these two options, press the "Mail" button. At this point the screen will turn white for a few minutes and the system will reset itself, at which point it will prompt you through the whole setup (you know, set the date, Time zone, blah, blah, blah).

Make sure you do the power + record +WMP as soon as you see the first bootloader screen, but, before you see the R G D HTC BLUE ANGEL text at the bottom right of the bootloader. That is the trick of it. Trust me, I tried way too many times untill I got it. Requires a little coordination, have 2 fingers ready on the Record and WMP buttons, Press the Reset, Quickly place finger on power button, as soon as you see first bootloader screen, press all 3 buttons!!!!! and you'll make it. LOL I can feel the emotion and frustration.
Good Luck if you decide to come back to WM6.1

Problem upgrading my Vario II

I have a quick question regarding my MDA Vario II. I've downloaded the recently discovered (so I am led to believe!) official WM6 TMobile UK Rom and wish to upgrade my device. The thing is, when I confirm the ROM update, it seems to turn my Vario II screen off, ActiveSync loses its connection and the installer gives me a [260] Connection error.
ERROR [260] : CONNECTION
This error occurs when there is an “open port error” before upgrading the CE ROM image.
Solution: You can reset the device and run RUU again. If you still encounter an “OPEN PORT ERROR” again, reset your computer and try again.
I've reset the device and the computer over and over; I've even tried the process on a second machine but I still get these same symptoms.
How can I get my MDA Vario II to successfully take the ROM update?
Thanks in advance
Hi i had the same problem with the t-mobile update and the way i installed it was to manually enter the bootloader so you get the tri coloured screen, then right click on the rom install exe and click extract to RUU_Hermes_TMO_UK_3.60.110.2_6275_1.50.00.00_108_Test(or whatever the name of the rom is that you want to install), you will need winrar installed to do that, not sure if winzip supports this feature too as i have always used winrar.
Any way once this is extracted you can double click on the folder and then right click on the ruuinside.exe and click extract to ruu_inside. Once this is done double click the ru_inside folder and double click on the ROMUpdateUtility and click that you have done everything it says you have to do (even though you havent got an active sync connection etc) and if it goes well, Like mine did it will install
Let me know if it did , good luck
P.S. I am using vista and if i do it this way i can install all the roms
off topic but do you look like jolie or do you wish you did

Thank you for this but I'm a little worried about doing all this as I've never flashed before, (although I'm experiened with technology). Out of curiosity, how can I manually enter the bootloader?
Edit: Never mind; Side OK, Power and Soft Reset
It's going over now I hope it works
This will ERASE the whole phone so make sure you have performed a sync before doing this. Press the left top button and the right top button and the camera button all together and reset the device using the stylus. You need long fingers to accomplish it lol. Just hold all the buttons in till you see the tri colour screen. If you dont see the tri colour screen and just see the normal boot screen then try again, you need to have them all pressed at the same time when you reset. Its fiddly to do on your own or you get someone else to press the stylus in while you press the buttons in.
Also you dont need to press the buttons at the exact time you reset. You can just press the buttons in any order just as long as they are all pressed when you reset, hope that is clear enough. Also if it is a t-mobile device then it will update no problem , if it is another providers rom that is on there it wont even try to update and you will get a device id error

Do a camera power reset and try again.
i tried that and it didnt do anything at all. isnt that just where you hold the end key and the side camera key and stick the stylus into the hole?
if so, it have any different effect than the standard soft reset

Hold down the power button and the camera button at the same time until the tri colored bootloader comes up. If that works, try flashing the stock rom for your carrier.
If that doesn't work try the same steps with the memory card removed.
If that doesn't work try to do a hard reset and see if that will take you to the bootloader.
Also, what are the numbers in on the bootloader...are you sure your device is unlocked? I believe it should say... SPL-00.40.coke... on the 2nd line if your unlocked.
You shouldn't need to connect to activesync to reboot. After you run ImCokeMan's unlocker you should be unlocked until you run it again.
As I said in the last post, all you have to do to get to the boot loader is hold down the power and camera buttons at the same time. This will put the phone into the boot loader and you should be able to flash back to the stock rom and start over.
It kind of sounds like you relocked the phone and then tried to boot a custom rom.
sorry i wasnt saying i needed to connect to activesync to reboot, i was saying i needed to connect to activesync to flash, and it wouldnt boot up so i couldnt get to activesync.
and i did to imcokemans unlocker, and everything went fine. when i was setting up the device (ie. setting password, time zone, calibration, etc...) i just decided that i didnt need to finish that as i was intending on flashing a custom rom anyway, and so any settings i put up the time to set would be erased.
having said that, i went ahead and starting flashing a custom rom right from the wm welcome screen that you get on a first boot.
thanks a LOT for your help, promptness, and attention
So are you back up and running?
well, now i am. i just took a 30 min drive down to the sprint store and got a replacement :S
thanks a lot for your help though, im scared i may really need to refer back to this thread later. but if i do, at least i know i should be able to fix it!
thanks.
well, i just did it again. i must be doing something wrong in the cooking of my ROMs...about to try out your solution..hope it works!!
wish me luck :S :S :S :S
well i was able to re-flash, but, unfortunately, it is stuck in the same "htc smart mobility" screen again. i think i have been able to narrow it down to the oemizer app. i must be doing something wrong in there.
oemizer http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=100746&referrerid=10115
ill keep cooking and trying tonight until i find what it is the problem is i guess, thx for your help guys. especially you 360discgolf.
well, after cooking and flashing too many times to remember this late, all i can do is ask for help when you guys wake up and check this thread.
in the last couple of builds i havent been doing anything with oemizer at all and it still hasnt been working, and i dont think i am doing anything extra in buildos that i havent done before in successful ROM images...it seems sort of erratic.
any suggestions/hints/comments would be great, thanks a lot.
you can't just hold the two buttons and press the reset. You have to hold the two buttons at the same time, then while holding them, use the stylus to hold the reset until it restarts. If you just tap the reset button while hold, it doesn't work.

i'm having a similar problem. my attempt at flashing didn't go over that well and now when I turn off the device, I can't turn it on again unless I do a soft reset. I tried doing the power/camera thing but all it does is ask "are you sure, yada yada" and then the devices turns off. you were talking about a stock rom? where would I get one and how would I re-flash the rom (assuming that's the problem in the first place.).
Thanks!

what carrier are you?
EDIT: also:
1) what os version are you running? (build number)
2) what radio are you running?
3) what bootloader are you on? (can be accessed via holding power + camera button and poking reset hole)
4) what are the orange numbers in the very bottom right of the screen when you are booting up?
these kinds of things all need to kind of jive for the sleep function to work correctly

If you used the imcokemans unlocker a 2nd time, I believe you re-lock your phone.
You also mentioned that you tried to flash the ROM from the Welcome Screen. That certainly won't work. You have to be at the unlocked rainbow bootloader screen which will load when you run the RUU or when you press Power-Camera-Reset. If it doesn't go into bootloader then you've probably re-locked your phone.

Hi muslim2009
I tried a few searches but all the results say you need the bootloader screen , are you sure you didn't miss a step in hard reset or bootloader mode :
To enter the bootloader:
Hold down the camera button and reset device with the stylus. Keep holding the camera button until you see 'tricolor' bootloader screen.
An alternative way to enter bootloader:
Switch the device off by long pressing O/I (power) button. hold down the camera button while pressing the O/I button about 1 second. Keep holding the camera button until you see 'tricolor' bootloader screen.
Alternative(universal?) bootloader(3)
As almost all htc smartphones with onboard camera, when you push and hold the camera(photo) button, and plug in usb adapter. Even a "stupid" usb power adapter will work.
To hard reset:
Hold down send/reject buttons (green/red at the front) and reset with the stylus; release the stylus but keep holding the buttons till you get 'this will erase all your personal data' message, then press 'action' (big front button) to hard reset.
I sincerely hope it helps
I was also born in Morrocco at Casablanca and lived there until age 16. Anyway I'll continue searching.
Tito
thanks for help,but it won't work :=(..

add me if i can show you my htc ..

I'm not sure if it's possible with the HTC Touch, but I know when I was playing around with an old iMate SP3i (smartphone) I was able to do a ROM upgrade from files on the memory card.. Took me a few attempts to get it right, but it worked. I think I also upgrade my SP5 to WM6 from WM5 that way, but I'm not too sure about that.
Either way, a basic idea of what I'm talking about can be found here, but that is obviously for a different phone.. Maybe some of the more common members here would have better luck finding a similar process on a Touch....?
maybe its will be workin but what marterial i will need for this opperation??
On some HTC devices (cheetah, for example) if you put the ROM file (.bin) in the root directory of the SD card, the phone will flash directly from the SD card.
I think you do require to put the phone into bootloader for that to work though ... not 100% sure, but probably worth looking up.
Ok... Been trying to search for more information for you, but with not really knowing all the correct terminology it's taken me a while longer than I thought. I've found two threads that have some of the information I was looking for:
Recover / Revive your dead / bricked HTC ELF or ELFIN
Recover HTC Touch from tricolors RUU boot-loader (Mtty)
The second link is actually found inside the 2nd post (I think) of the first thread I mentioned here, looks like they are linked in some way. Your best bet is to read through and see if it is something that may help. Let us know if this works for you...?
thanks you man,i was read the first link befor..i will see for the second
hope will work.thank you again

HELP !!!!!

Hi i have a TP2 and i installed an app called truecaller (Beta version) now it says its over and i have a screen that tells me its over and to go to website to buy/get newer version ......i cant get rid of that screen and my phone isnt working i have tried a hard reset but nothing it wont connect to my pc ...its locked up i neeed help !!!!!
If you get into the bootloader screen(hold power and down key while restting) you can flash your rom from there. since you allready did a hard reset that wont be much of a leap for you i wouldnt think.
i dont have a down key...if i do a hard reset and start phone with no sim its fine as soon as i add sim and restart i get that damn screen
You said that you installed that program yourself. Then you didn't hard reset. Otherwise the program would be gone. Press the call button + end button + power on. That is the way to hard reset.
i have hard reset about 10 times now ............im gonna try to flash a diff rom and see what happens but im so confused as to what this is all about
Did you already try to contact the maker of the program? Maybe they know of the issue, and also have a solution.

Really strange if you cant get rid of that screen after a hardreset(sounds impossible)
I have to ask you, have you mixed up hard reset with soft reset, dont mean to offend you but I have heard it happened for some...
im not offended ...yeah i did hard resets (hold power ,call and end key ) still couldnt get rid of it i flashed back to a prev energy rom and all is ok .......i just want my sense 2.5 back ....lol thank for all ya input

Hard reset fails!

I desperately need an alternative way to hard reset my hd2. Holding the up down button and shortly pressing the on/off button just switches the phone on. No reset. btw I cant start up normally so the software approach doesn't wort either.

Use the reset button on back whilst holding up/down buttons
a few people have commented on the difficulty of getting both up and down pressed correctly.
I find I get a much better press with the battery cover off, and I press one first, then the second.that way you can feel them connect individually.
Why don't you guys use the build in software to hard re-set the devise.
1] Press Star Icon
2] Press Setting Icon
3] Press System Icon
4] Press Clear Storage Icon
That should start a hard re-set on device and re-store everything back to original configuration.

the dude can't use the software approach because his windows won't start, remember?
what about using task 29 or the reflash original splash screen while its doing its thing you can use both hands to hold the vol buttons, other than anything else suggested i dont thinj there us another way to hard reset other than reinstalling your rom maybe fix the software wipe storage app.
That works!

Thanks, finally got the thing going again.
I have the same exact problem. None of these methods are working for me. Is there anthing else I can do?
Same for me. Locked out of the phone completely. When it boots it only gets as far as the O2 start up screen and doesn't get any further. Hard and soft reset do nothing. Have tried all suggested here already.
When I get to the screen where I'm prompted to press Volume up to restore, it goes straight to 'restore completed' in a fraction of a second, then back to the start up screen when I press Volume up again.
Need help as I now have an HTC paperweight and no phone!

Been using magldr? Cos hard resetting with magldr installed just affects magldr, hence a very short reset time that does nothing.

No, I don't even know what that is. I'm not very technical and all I had installed was Cookie's Home Tab Editor.
I have the same problem.
My HTC is blocked ( the WM "forgot" the password that I set - a common problem ), so I have to do a Hard Reset that doesn't start.
I can't reflash or do anything else ( as told here ) without instaling HSPL first. As this can only be installed by the Active Sync, and Active Sync doesn't connect to blocked phones, I can't do anything else...
Is there a way to do anything else with only a new ROM in the sd card ? Or I REALLY have to install HSPL first ?
Thanks,
Leo

It is possible to be stitched from a SD-card without reinsertion HSPL. It is desirable to stitch official ROM
It is desirable SD-card to format a feather an insertion.
