is this a full debrand? any extra programmes and what benefits?
yep full debrand, one tip though remove your sd card before doing hard spl, no more vodafone stuff, runs a lot smoother and it downloads all the needed vodafone internet settings on reboot opera is like night and day now doing what it should and not restricted - wifi is also a lot better + you can now get more uptodate roms direct useing se update. (not tried this yet). All good

going to do it later on, its not as straight forward as nokia debranding
i dont hve a card reader how will i format m memory card?
dont need a card reader most likely your card is already fat32, as for copying the file rom to the card just do it as you would normaly transfer something to the phone. If you are going to try it remeber it is risky and could brick your phone if done wrong.

im currently formatting mem card, taking a long time
the NBHUTIL folder which is also extracted do we use that?
i dont see it mentioned.
no not needed
im at the 2nd stage and there a white screen saying loading...
is this normal?
is your sd card in the phone, if it is remove it then run hard spl without the card inserted and it will work, then just follow the guide rename the rom place onto your sd card remove battery, put battery back in hold volume down key and press hold power button at same time until you get the 4 colour screen and follow the instructions displayed on your phone.

Hi, since I upgraded my SPL to 1.54/1.56, i've tried installing both Dutty WM6.1 v2.9 and Mira WM6.5 v8.1 but neither of them seems to like my storage card, i have to do soft reset for it to recognise the card, but after a while the card will disappear again...
any1 got the same problem or know how to fix it please?

I've seen one other user with the same issue. What type / brand of SD card are you using? Trying to narrow down what is causing this... he had the same issue with same rom(s).
its the SanDisk 8GB SDHC one - one that came by default with Orange UK contract.
Btw, I did upgrade to the offcial 1.54/56 ROM before upgrading to the 2 ROMs above.

Maybe it's got to do with the power management policies the Chef applied. Try to use schaps' Advanced Config 3.3 to disable SD Card Power Management and see if it helps.
Also, some caches and DMA could be the culprits but first let's see about power management.
The Power Management is disabled.
Also, 1 thing I particularly noticed is when I open Windows Media player, attempt to update my library on storage card, it can find all my music files, but when it attempt to add the music to the library, it doesnt. and then the sd card disappear from File Explorer, WMP libary option.
Backup your sd card to your PC, and reformat it. Had the same problem, fixed with a format

I have the same SanDisk8GB SDHC one - default card which came with the phone. Same thing happned. It has become very slow to access, and practically useless, the phone cannot detect the card. If put into the computer with the adapter then also it is the same computer cannot read it or sometimes takes too long, cannot format. this happened after the 1.54/56 rom.
Happened to me also with some custom ROM.
I used my warranty to exchange the SD card.
My advice : backup your SD card when you can, from time to time.
Same Thing
Same thing happenned to my card. Same default card that came with the phone. But I have SPL 1.14 which I have had for a while now. I just flashed to a Miri ROM and it started happenning. I will try reformatting to see if it helps.
did you remove the sd-card when you flashed?

I am "others" too.
I tried every hint I could find on the forum including disabeling the SD card power management and setting the PnP values higher.
Nothing works (and I have a Apacer 8GB card)
For me it narrowed down to:
1) Hardware faulty or
2) Hardware cannot "cope" with 8GB .
I've called HTC in the US - which where very friendly brw - and the lady said that most handsets are only guaranteed / tested to work with 4GB cards, Although there are other handsets in other countries who where sold with an 8GB card as a bundle.
Today I called HTC "support" centre in "New Zealand" and the phillipin/indian/nepalese customer service lady told me that my handset had been parallel imported and therefore needs to be send back to the NETHERLANDS for a diagnosis / repair!
I told her that if she would'nt give the number of their authorised repair centre in NZ I might have to think to contact Ministry for consumer law. So I got the number and I will go there now, cheking what the story is..will keep you updated.

EDIT: gurluver I think you're right! I downgraded my device now back to spl 1.14 and no problems anymore. As I am discussing this with crackwhore it seems that
1) some countries's touch hd might have a different hardware
2) however even though I have downgraded to official HTC ROM spl 1.14 (and the card is working fine then) as soon as I upgrade to offical and / or other spl 1.56 the problem appears again.
Conclusion: I have to go and (probaley argue) with HTC and see if they are willing to either fix it or send me a new device.
Will keep you posted
so to sum up, i guess i'll have to try these when i have sometime, and see what happens after each step, and only go to next step if previous step works.
- restore to Orange UK ROM SPL 1.14
- upgrade to Official WWE SPL 1.54/56
- Try another 1.54/56 ROM.
- Format the card
- Install SD tune up
I'll report back here my result.
update...
i have flashed my device several times, at least 15 times,.always using USB activesync, never thru the stotage card. I have v1.14 and I have never had a problem. After rebooting the phone a couple of times, I got my card to reappear today long enough to backup my stuff. Then I formatted the card, put it back in, loaded it up with the same files, and I havent had another problem, though its only been about 8 hours.

restore to orange UK ROM spl 1.14..and you will see that you will be sweet. After I upgraded to official SPL 1.54/56 it didnt work again..and I tried several versions (NDL; came with the phone , EUR & WWE)
I just think that its not right to be "stuck" with spl 1.14 in order to use or card...
SD Card Problem
I had this problem last night. Basically my card just disappeared from the file explorer. Could not connect it to disk drive mode or anything. Took the card out, re-inserted and the card would appear for a few seconds and then go again. Soft re-setted and it would appear for a bit then disappear.
Done a hard reset and the card still would only appear for a while until I tried to access it then it would disappear.
I eventually narrowed my problem down to something I had installed on the card which was MaxTTM. After deleting this folder from my card, it remained visible. Been working fine ever since. I didn’t have to delete my music or video files which make up around 6-7gb of my card. From now on I think I’ll install my software on the phone as opposed to memory card. My card is a 16gb Sandisk.
When the problem happened to me, first, only some directories had disapeared. Or at leat I couldn't access to them.
Even with a µSd card reader on the PC.
I formated it with the storage tool, on the HD, because the PC would'nt see it.
A week later, I couldn't access to the card anymore. Neither on the HD, nor on the PC.
I concluded that the card was destroyed.
Hopefully it was still under warranty.
I don't blame the cooked ROM I was using. Maybe the SDtuneup with some parameters I entered with Advanced config tool did the mess.
Like power management.
My first SD corruption occured when the card was almost full, and I was downloding a file with Opera. In the meantime I plugged in my PC in mass storage mode. I recognize my error. But instead of simply having a file system corruption, why did it destroyed the card ?
Because after then, the card access was longer. Perhaps the system was trying to recover some bad sectors ? I'm working in phone industry, and we do a lot of tests on these kind of use cases. So I can't beleive HTC hardware isn't that robust.
In my case, it ended with a hardware destruction. Even on other devices (with other OS/ ROM) it also failed reading.
Bad luck with a weak µSD card ?

I've sent my device in for diagnosis / repair / swap . I will update you what's happened. Good Idea with writing to HTC though
I had also an old Sandisk 6 GB card and copied to it the content from 8 GB card (which came with HD). That solved my (SD disappering) problem !
I hope I am not hallucinating but I've been trying to flash every ROM in this forum and what I have noticed is that when I flash the same ROM with NO SD card inserted I get a faster ROM response even if I re-insert it back when windows finishes setup.
I have asked a friend to check what I was saying and he did notice a difference; Maybe it has something to do with the windows setup preparation after flashing but I am sure it is not the same for me. Can anyone confirm ?
This is interesting never tried it. Thanks for sharing m8.
interesting.. Maybe it tries to index all files on the SD card which causes more time? Have no clue yet on how to test this properly.
Well dont really know about this, but many chefs writed to remove sim + MemCard before flashing their ROMS. So I do this everytime I'm not flashing throught MemCard.
xeon,
I noted same effect yesterday when I flashed last rom (first time without sd card). In that case I noted a faster reboot only after a HR. During a normal use of blackstone, after last flash, I noted a normal boot, not fast reboot.
For me only if I flash with no memory card inserted I get a better ROM performance. We need a ROM cooker to confirm.

same here, but the from a technical point of view it doesn't make sense that your rom is quicker. In the installation process this makes sence but not afterwards

yes it looks like it does... i'll try it next time i flash.
The mem card must is being checked for some reason, the reason i can say this is i have a copilot autorun file two folders down that wants to start being installed straight after a flash, even before i start using my HD2.

Well I have done some testing. I can 100 % say that on my ROM's flashing without Storage card does make a difference. The benchmarks are faster, but more importantly it is more smooth and stable. I will be instructing all my users to flash without storage card, not for the benchmarks but for better stability.
There is some strange things going on with the storage card ever since the Documents tab was introduced. This has also led to problems with Extendir.
I suspect that they could be related.

Does it apply to Hard Reset without SD Card too or does it only work with flashing wihtout the SD Card?
Sounds interesting, although counter to everything we like!
SD card flashing is fast and safe.

Just so you all know, this only works once!
i.e. if you flash with no SD card then use the rom it will be fast, the second you insert the SD card, it starts up a service/dll which slows down the device again.
Also some of these benchmarks deactivate the SD card service before the Benchmark takes place to give the look of higher speeds.
The ONLY way this will work permanent is if you NEVER insert the SD card!! But we all will which makes this abit pointless!!

According to bobsbbq, benchmark results were better when flashing without SD so to say that the benchmark tool deactivate the SD service is not accurate. To be honest, I've experienced the same feeling as bobsbbq when flashing without SD even if reinserted... device response feels faster and smoother. I still didn't find any logical as for flashing and hard resetting twice etc..

Do you use manila 2.5 with Documents tab?
I have similar performance problem when i use this version of Manila.
Hi i have a big problem. I tried to upgrade my Leo be flashing the new WP7. My previous ROM was NRG. After executing the RomUpdateUtility exe, however the phone rebooted, and NRG logo showed on the screen, and then nothing on. Hard reset also didn't help.
Did you check you have correct hspl and radio? Magldr wont start without 2.08.hspl and 2.07.50.x or higher radio.
and a task 29 followed by a stock rom flash should sort you out
The radio is exactly 2.07.50, i flashed it when i flahed the NRG rom few months ago. The HSPL version however is 1.42. as far as i could see it. Can i install a newer version of HSPL now when the phone is already dead.

The phone isnt "dead" , only your ability to read information before modifying your device.
All you need to do is put your phone into bootloader mode and then flash what ever you want, WM, HSPL, etc etc
a) Power dow phone.
b) Hold Volume down button (just "down", not "up" aswell)
c) Press power button once.
d) Wait till you get Tri-color screen and release Volume down button.
e) Plug in USB and flash rom.
Yea, as above.
Use hspl2 or hspl3 or hspl4, it makes absolutely no difference which, just be sure and only choose 2.08.hspl, nothing else will work.
wrong HSPL, wrong radio, i assume you dont have MAGLDR working given the first two points not correct, overall the post 2 above me is spot on, read, an if in doubt ask, you must have had some thoughts on what you were doing might not work given that you have not carried out any of the steps to install it, so read, ask then install or you will end up killing it one day!

You have to set your APN manually. Check your carrier/mobile operator.
Yes, WP7 doesnt recognize your sd card. This is not a problem. This is how it works in WP7. That is why in the beginning (and maybe up to now), people complains of having difficulty to transfer file. You need zune to transfer your file.
Cheers..

The APN settings need setup, use HTC connection manager or manually add them in the settings>phone/cellular>add apn
as for you SD, im not sure what the above poster is talking about, his right in the sence that there is no SD file transfer ( there is but it takes a bit of fiddleing and only works on you PC) but i assume you are actually meaning your Windows phone doesnt have any storage available at all, i mean, windows phone doesnt see the card in itsself?
if thats the case then you have an incompatible SD card.
Right, before you believe all the fud on this forum about "confirmed compatible cards" let me tell you there isnt any confirmed cards. unless you can find one of these at&t WP7 branded cards.
anyhow, that is unlikely, so its luck, class 2 and class 4 are about is good as the advice is going to get, your just as likely to have issues with Sandisk as you are a supermarket own brand, so buy what you can afford but dont expect it to work, even if it is detected you may have issues with it, random reboots, wifi not working, lagging, etc, but once you get a woring card it absolutely flys!

Mate,
What I was trying to say is that when you flash and boot wp7 with your micro sd card inside, it will format and create a partition such that you cannot see it via windows explorer or any other file explorer apps. You cannot transfer the file from your PC to your HD2 (with WP7 installed) via copy and paste. You need Zune to transfer the files.
You still can see the partition created by WP7 in your micro SD card, using partition manager/tools in your PC. You can search in the WP7 subforums
Cheers

do you use winmo, and which rom do you want to flash, and what steps do you make?
Yes, i am using a winmo, HTC HD2
i tried many roms, and i am talking about the ROM, not android.
and on each ROM i tried to load different Android, but it still
do not work.........stuck on a screen every time
Basically i use "energy rom", http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
and tried with American Android ((( this one worked on a first sd -card)))
steps from a beginning : i flash rom on my phone, after hard reset, i flash it from my PC. then i copy the "Android" folder on sd card of my phone, then with "file explorer" i enter the "android" file ((for example - AMERICAN ANDROID)) , i choose CLRCAD, (nothing happens) and then i choose the HARET and loading begins. after that just a screen with HTC logo, a black one. i waited for 20 min, and more - nothing changes. (( tried to reset and load again, same screen, no progress....))
i just have no idea what else to do....
been searching for solution for few days now.
some say that updating the rom helps, but done that.
When i were using winmo i were formatting my sd on such a case. If it doesn't work i was formatting winmo too.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
ye....... the problem is that i done that all.........
just weird.

for example - AMERICAN ANDROID....i take it from your writing.you must put the folder Android to sd card not american android folder. i mean
sd card/android/clrcad then haret. not sd card/american android/android/clrcad
of course, i understand it.
i read manual for 100 times now, just to be sure i am doing things right.
i know the basics.
so lets see :
format to phone and sd card - checked
updated rom - checked
different sd card - checked
different rom with different android - checked
if i think about it know - phone is not working that's why i can't install android.
but - every rom is working good and android did worked once on a old sd card.
so have no idea what to do next.
at first i wanted to copy files from sd card where Android did worked, so there were file named "data.img" , couldn't copy it. don't know why.
so, in order for android to work on a phone now , it must create same file now. maybe card is somehow protected and doesn't allow phone to do it................. but i can copy all other stuff on it.
my knowledge and fantasy just ends here, but it kills me that such a simple thing doesn't work.
and if it doesn't work on an old card either, so can't figure out what causing this problem.
i can lastly say: download a new copy of american android.wipe everything from your sd.unrar american android in your pc.find the android folder.copy android folder to your sd via usb or card reader.clrcad then haret. the rom creates a new data.img in first boot.this rom may take half an hour to load. because i use it also. sorry if i'm unable to help
i had the same problem installing AmeriCanAndroid. it seemed like you did everything right from what i could tell anyway. i would try a different sd build to see if thats the problem.

I will say that if you ever want to go to a nand version and dont like it for what ever reason you can always switch back. I'm sorry I couldnt of been more help.

Received my first HTC through the post yesterday and joined the site in an attempt to run android. I know nothing and there's an overwhelming amount of information on this site so just need someone to point me in the right direction.
Used this and followed instructions carefully: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652
My problem is after running clrcad.exe and haret.exe, the phone reset after a grey screen. Looked like it went well but now the SD card has disappeared from the file explorer and windows when connected through USB.
Any help appreciated, just want to get the SD card back up so I can format it and so on. Thanks.
I take it by the lack of replies that this isn't a common problem. It's kind of put me off trying any new ROM's as a simple procedure like this can't even go straight. Will have to stick with Winmo then
Im not quite sure anymore, but i dont think you are able to mount your sd as long as you use sd builds. I dont know if this is changing with an ext partition on your sd.
Just check out the NAND section. Its installed on your internal memory and not running from sd. WinMob will be fully deleted and replaced with Android, so first do a backup of contacts etc!!!
If you do not need WinMob for any kind of apps for work etc which arent ported to Android yet (which i dont think there are much NAND is the best solution for you.
Started like you with sd build 2years ago, too. But switched to NAND as soon as it was stable.
Now it is almost perfect.

How did you get the card to show again? Or did you buy a new one?
Just a thought, have you tried a soft reset? Switch phone off Take back cover of and press little red button for a few seconds, put cover back on reboot into android
Also make sure your SD card is formatted to 32kb (slow format)
