t-mobile number to PAYG to new T-mobile contract - Touch HD General

I am currently on a t-mobile contract and I want to get the touch HD and have seen the t-mobile deals on expansys and I am really tempted but I want to keep my number.
I know that you can transfer your number from t-mobile contract to a PAYG and then back onto a new t-mobile contract. But I want to know which PAYG provider I should switch to and from to a new t-mobile contract and how long do you think it would take?

I did exactly what you describe, using o2 as the payg bit. They didn't give me a hard time when I phoned up and asked for a pac code after 1 day
Whole process from first request to final number going live was about 8 days.

Thanks for that I've just ordered my free sim from O2 and when I receive it I'll call T-Mobile and get my PAC and then order from my HD from Expansys and then hopefully transfer my number. Hopefully I get it all sorted in two weeks fingers crossed.
Thanks again.

Migrating from O2 to O2 Online

Hi All,
Is it possible to buy an Exec from O2 online(Online 50, £19 per month, 12 months, set cost £139) and migrate from an O2 shop account and keep my old number?
I am currently on the lowest tariff and they have quoted me £329 for an straight upgrade.
You could port your number to a free orange PAYG sim and then port back again. I mean, what a pain, why do they make it so awkward?
I asked O2 for a PAC code to move to o2-online and the immediately dropped the price and gave me 3 months free contract
Chris
Can you move from an O2 pay-as-you-go SIM to a O2 online SIM?
You're lucky chrish01, I tried to upgrade and was told by the upgrades team there was no way I could get a deal anywhere near the online one. The guy I spoke to made no attempt to offer any kind of deal to keep me on my old contract on better terms. So I went ahead and ordered the online deal that terapixels was talking about. However when I went about trying to keep my old mobile number and asked for my old contract to be cancelled I was told that the number cannot be transferred to my new online contract as I had not requested the PAC after cancelling the 02 UK contract. They claimed I have to enter the PAC code while taking on the online contract to transfer my mobile number.
Bearing in mind I requested cancellation of my old mobile contract at the same time I requested transfer of my old mobile number to the new online contract, it is a bit rich to be told that O2 " no can do". At the end of the day I have two current mobile contracts on a single account with the same service provider. So of course they can do it if they want!
What I don't understand is why they are treating existing customers so appallingly. Most of my friends said that o2 had an c**p reputation. Now I understand why. I still haven't decided whether to cancel my new online contract during the 14 days cooling off period and then move completely across to Orange. I'm still hoping O2 will come back with some kind of final offer but I'm not not holding out too much hope!
Let's see what happens.......

MDA Pro For Sale

Ladies and Gents,
I have an T- Mobile MDA Pro for sale, brand new, boxed. As i already have an EXEC, this phone is up for sale.
Please PM me if you are interested
It is listed on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9126315634&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MESE:IT&rd=1
I am willing to end the auction early for 375pounds + 11.99 Shipping.
Cheers,
You really should add the fact that whoever buys it will need to have a t-mobile sim to use it since it can't be unlocked at present.
thanks for that shuflie!
can they not be unlocked at all? i'm so used to popping different sim's in my exec.
cheers,
Adam
They can, but it costs 100 euros with t-mobile
unlocking the mda pro
after you have paid the 1st months invoice, you can ask for the unlock code from T-Mobile UK - if you got it from them. Cost me 20gbp ISTR
Did they let you do that without paying off the rest of your contract? Very nice of whoever it was that gave you the unlock code but I've seen stories on here of others that have tried but couldn't get the unlock without canceling their contract and paying off the remainder of it.
adamchahl: If you can do this without having to pay of your contract it would probably increase the value of your MDA pro to be able to say it was unlocked in your auction.
Yeah, guess its worth a try, i will ring t-mobile tommorrow.
Will let you know how i get on.
Thanks,
nope, did not have to pay for the rest of the contract.
Contact T-Mobile customer services. Explain that you want to transfer your numbers from your old (voda/orange) sim to your shiny new mda pro. They will add the cost of the handling fee to your next bill. You tell them your imei number. Unlock code arrived a week later.
Note you get a 10 digit number, prefixed by two zeros and then eight numbers. Just enter the eight numbers, leaving out the first two zeros.
Worked a treat. ABSOLUTELY ZERO HASSLE.
T-Mobile UK 18 month contract phone ... still got my contract, 100 minutes a month and 40Mb a month data. Very happy with the service.
T-Mobile quoted my £15 to unlock the MDA Pro, however they mentioned that it can take up to 28 days for the code to come from HTC.
I will be more than willing to supply this unlock code for free to any purchesor when it arrives, so the phone will be unlocked.
I realise that there's a huge element of trust with doing things that way, so if it doesnt sell, i will just put it up for sale when the code comes through!
Cheers for your help!

Is the HD worth buying sim free?

I've been considering buying the HD for sometime now and have been considering buying it sim free for £500 (hopefully due to the proposed VAT drop on Monday) and taking out a sim only contract for either £20/£25 (T-Mobile/O2/Vodafone). I am not fussed by the data packages as I have wifi at work and at home so I can use that instead.
But I have recently seen deals on O2, Orange and vodafone which are tempting but I would have to transfer my number and how easy is that?
I have worked out that if I save £20 every month for two years on a sim only contract I would save £480.
Which would you recommend? Sim Free or contract?
I'm not a big fan of the branding the phone companies do; I really hated the pinky-purple t-mobile slapped on my last phone.
I go my HD from Expansys. So I can choose the contract and company I want (I went again with t-mobile cos I like their data prices) and still get an unbranded HD, whichever provider you go for
Logically, you are better off buying it through contract. However, i bought mine for £500 just because I was impatient. My Polaris was overdue and since the HD was not available directly through O2 and I did not want to wait any longer on missed promises from mobiles.co.uk, I made this move. I wanted to remain on O2 because I like hem and I am a Select customer (don't if it is worth it, but I get 25% discount on accessories). However, I had recently switched my contract to SIM only (700 min + 500 SMS + Web) for only 20. Because I purchased my through third-party, my insurance was deemed null against my new handset, so I cancelled it.
You should not worry about transferring your number; if you buy through mobiles.co.uk, they will deliver the device on whichever SIM is on it. You will then have to obtain the Porting Authorisation Code from your existing provider and the process is straightforward.
To summarise, if you can afford it, I would recommend SIM free; personally, I do not want to be tied up for 18 months. If available, I rather take a 12-month contract and pay the extra rather than a year and half; many handsets can be released during that time and I am waiting for the Omni – it may be the next bigger release for O2 with WM 7.
One thing I like about Orange (after having made sure I got a data bundle), is the fact that if the handset is faulty, they get a new one out to you next day. The courier will come either between 9am-1pm, 1-5pm or 6-10pm. Really good service.
Well if you feel SIM free is too expensive, the trick then is to buy the original HTC handset at a subsidised price with a mobile contract through Expansys. Do this and you can always 'renegotiate' the terms of the contract/tariff with the mobile network directly following delivery of your handset. I did this 6 months ago with an original HTC Diamond, then called T Mobile direct who put me on a combi 30 with free web n walk for £30 to match Oranges data deals at the time. Remember you have a 14 day grace period, use that to your advantage to secure the best deal, but in terms of tariff negotiation, do NOT deal with expansys but the mobile network directly.
Thanks for the advice. What I could do is try and work out a deal with T-Mobile first for a sim only and try and blag a good deal and buy the phone sim free because at the moment I am paying over the odds on my contract.
But carola your O2 sim only deal would be perfect and one thing I notice is that O2 offer the free data blot on with a £20 plan which I think if I talk to T-Mobile might be able to blag a similar deal.

Unbranded HD2 from mobiles.co.uk or mobilephonesdirect.co.uk?

Hi,
I'm thinking of ordering this phone either from mobiles.co.uk or mobilephonesdirect.co.uk and I would like to know if people in the UK that have recently got their phones on UK contract through either of these companies have received unlocked and unbranded generic HTC phones with all the standard software and accessories.
Also if you believe that your phone is unbranded have you been able to use the serial number to download a ROM from the HTC website?
Now that O2 and T-Mobile are also supplying the phones directly I am worried that these vendors may start supplying branded units from the networks.
Thanks.
Unlocked, unbranded stock bought directly from HTC.
I bought a HD2 on contract from mobilephonesdirect (instore though) and it was unbranded and I was able to flash the ROM with the upgrade from the HTC website.
If you buy the phone direct from the network provider you will probably find that it is locked down and branded.
Just had mine delivered from mobilephonesdirect.co.uk, on t-mobile contract (ordered Monday pm delivered Wednesday)
Phone is unbranded. The serial number let me download the latest 1.48 ROM from HTC (already installed on the phone when it was delivered anyway).
Just put my old O2 sim card in. Connected straight away, so it's sim unlocked.
bought mine from mobiles.co.uk with a vodafone contract.
unbranded and unlocked, as are all their handsets!
amazon
I bought mine from inkino in london for 519 pounds at the beginning of Dec.
Today I bought another one for my friend and I asked for the price they said 539 pounds, so we end up buying from amazon.co.uk for 513pounds.
I bought mine on a t-mobile contract a few weeks ago from mobiles.co.uk
I haven't tried entering the serial for a rom upgrade yet (just gonna wait for 1.61) but as near as i can tell (is there a way to check for sure? like a code in the rom version?) it's unbranded/unlocked. Youtube app is still there, no branding anywhere in phone etc.

As i mentioned in the previous post, all handsets from mobiles.co.uk are sim free versions, that is why you got your sim card in a little white envelope instead of in the box with the phone.
I've just bought an O2 HD2 from the shops. The case itself is a stock HTC HD2, not branded. The software has an O2 splash screen and a few wallpapers, along with CoPilot trial.
So the case is fine, and a custom rom later down the line will make it look like a standard HD2.

Definitely good to know, since otherwise a sim free handset with a stock rom would cost a fortune.
You might want to take a look at the list of vendors/sellers in the wiki.
Right now Handtec are the cheapest (without a contract) in the UK with a price of UK£ 486.40 (€538)
Word of warning; not all handsets are unlocked/unbranded.
Look for the "Unlocked" green tick on product pages.
If you buy from Mobiles .co.uk and order through Quidco you get £50 cashback!! (£5 to join). Got my cashback into my Quidco account to be paid in January.....
I Looked at both of these company's but the lack of contact number on one and the fact the other never picked up the phone worried me.
I Ordered mine from The www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk. They picked up the call in a couple of rings, So i could check availability. It was then delivered the next day. They are part of the car phone warehouse, so hopefully any possible future problems should be resolved quickly. They are also offering 12 month contracts that i have not seen from the likes of vf,t-mob etc. My total contract price is less than the RRP of a sim free HD2. Great!!
Its Also unlocked
I eventually got my HD2 through mobilephonesdirect after about 2-3 months of phoning up, emails and complaints. The website form wouldnt work with my address and they refused to admit there was anything wrong or help with the problem. My flatmate is trying to order the same but still has had no luck. I only managed to get an order through with them when i managed to speak to the one decent guy in the call centre. I think his name was 'adam', he'd be worth asking for if you need to phone up. He took 10 mins out to process my order over the phone and completed it without a problem - the site form hadn't worked with the exact same information.
The staff promised many times to give me a call back to take a phone order but i never recieved one. Often they were rude or had an attitude.
I'd really advise anyone to avoid them, however they did have the best monthly deal (tmobile web n walk 30 package - 700 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited web [and the highest fair usage cap per month compared to vodafone's 500mb monthly usage]).
Another note: instore staff are far more polite than the people i've spoken to on the phone.
Dont order from mobilephonesdirect!!!
hi just trying to save you alot of hasle. do not order from mobilephonesdirect website. i ordered my phone from them it didnt arrive after a week so i cancled my order. about an hour after canceling i had an email saying that my order has been dispatched (AFTER I CANCLED) not only that all my emails where not answered correctly. i then had my second caclelation email answered by 1 that said i would not recieve my phone for another month at the time i had already recieved bills from o2 and they couldnt cancle my new contract as mobilephonesdirect had set it up and they refused to refund me my money till they got the phone(WHICH I TOLD THEM NOT TO SEND) back and i didnt even recieve that. had to get trading standards involved and i started a contract with tmobile but still no refund for the bills that i payed.
# oh yeah also when i ordered they advertised garanteed next day delivery and also said the phone was in stock... only after a week and atempting to cancle i found out that they didnt have it in stock at all.
My thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my query.

Upgrate From T-Mobile to EE (Hand In HTC One x for HTC One)

Hello,
I spent the past year and a bit in the HTC ONE X forum, I just pre-ordered my HTC ONE from the EE store in Fareham. I'm wondering if anyone has got their HTC One this way as you don't get penalised for the remaining contract and all you pay for to switch from T-mobile or Orange to EE (4G) is the cost of the handset on the plan you choose. I'm hoping I get the phone this week, can't wait to get it.

Welcome,
I have been waiting for my phone from T-Mobile for more than a week and no luck. It is stil out of stock
I didn't go for 4G as they were asking for £6/month extra on my contract.
The contract i'm after is the £41 per month which means the phone will cost me £29, i've paid a £20 deposit for the phone, but forgot to ask if all I need to pay when I collect it is £9. I think it should be as you usually get the deposit back. Can't wait to get it, he said it should arrive this week, fingers crossed.
Well its been a week since I pre ordered my HTC One from the T-Mobile store and its still not arrived in there shop!!!!
Getting impatient now as i'd like it before I go to London this Friday.
Wonder what the delay is!
