I saw this post recently on another forum saying:
The panel pictures are just static images while the panel loads up, if you notice the fish clock says 11/03/08 06:18 and the Sony panel is New York 10:10 etc
These are really simple to change. (Back up the originals though)
The pictures are .bmp format and a similar size. Each panel has 4 images -
Portrait Large (240x350),
Portrait small (120x175)
Landscape Large (400x190)
Landscape small (200x95)
They are located in Programm Files eg Programes/Panel/3DFishPanel
(sometimes within a Images folder)

So i thought, great, I can make the fish panel generic via photoshop and not have a time on it until it gets large and refreshes with real data.
BUT I found that...
1) The original file can't be deleted/overwritten/changed
2) i have noticed that the files on the x1 are SYSTEM files,
3) If i copy any file into that directory (which would eventually be named the same as the original) it would become an ARCHIVE file.. would this matter
Any suggestions?
anyone?
Surely this must be an easy one

Open the file properties using Total Commander CE or similar file explorer and unhook the SYSTEM property.
Delete the file (or rename it for backup).
Copy the new file.
Done!
The ARCHIVE propertie doesn't matter. It's just a flag for backup software to know that the file is used since the last backup.
excellent!
That was a breeze.
now to get photoshop to the resue. I hated having the wrong time on my panels.. god knows why they couldnt mke they have more truer info on them when small.
Ok I have done it and here are my first lot.
You will need to download the free Total Commander for Pocket PC/Phone.
Total Commander - home
and also download the zip files from here (these are ones I have created)
Or see the file attached below
This contains 4 *.bmp files that will replace your old files on your phone.
You need total commander to delete (or rename) the original files.
Copy the new 4 files I created into the directory and use Total Commander to change the new file attributes to “system” files.

Okey Dokey,
will do. I have played with mine a bit and lost the originals, any chance you could send me the bmp files from your phone and i will work with them
they are the bmp's from this directory on your phone (should be 8 of them?)
\Program Files\Panels\SonyEricssonPanel
thanks
Adam
Problem with the thumbs for the SonyEricssonPanel is that they get redrawn everytime you change your settings (clock from analog to digit, background from red to blue, connectivity buttons on/off).
Which is useful in that they then match up and look almost like the real thing, but does mean you end up with the wrong time in New York.
you know what, after playing around for awhile, and creating 2 sets of images... i had just come to the same conclusion.
Luckily for the fish 3d panel that never changes, but the sony panels do.
If you are never going to change the colour scheme etc then you could use the following (but you would have to rename them as what you have on your phone.

pick the color you want for example RS_Bar_blue.png and RS_Ind_blue.png and rename them to RS_Bar.png and RS_Ind.png then copy to \windows folder and allow to overwrite the original ones, I included in the zip file the original color just in case you want to go back to it.
Man, great work Poorlyduck, let me just give this thread a bump. I used the yellow random access along with the other yellow cube and htc home icons you provided, my mogul looks real nice! Thanks!
Poorlyduck,
Excellent tool. Hopefully will be appended to a ROM or 2 somewhere, with your permission.
Thanks for the excellent work.

thank you guys for all comments.
@wacky.banana you definitly have my permission to use them anywhere you want, enjoy!
BEAUTIFUL!!
Among all HTC's shipped softwares, random access might be the most practical one. However, it's black-grey bar just doesn't see eye to eye to roms with non-htc-black&grey-interface. Your work just make everything perfect! thank you a lot!!

I also get the access denied message, so probably the files are open.
However, besides Active Sync (which I cannot kill for some reason) there's nothing running. How can I overwrite the files?

you cant overwrite the file from the pc to your device if its protected, so you need to move it to storage card or somewhere beside windows folder, and use your device to move the file to windows folder.
I cannot get these to work at all. The files on my device are read-only and I cannot replace them from my PC or when I put the files on my storage card and try to copy them into the Windows folder. It gives me an error about memory and making sure the files aren't read-only or in use. Any ideas?

first make sure contacts (random access) is closed, leaving the app running will prevent you from changing the images. Then using resco explorer (or any other 3rd party file explorer) copy the files from teh storage card to the random access folder (typically this will be the \windows folder). If prompt with a warnign about overwriting ROM files, go ahead and ok the prompt.
That didn't work for me. I downloaded Resco File Explorer and copied the files from my storage card to the windows folder, overwrote the files and nothing changed.
I've had the same problem - tried the storage card, tried Rescoe - what else can I try?
welcome to my world! I can't seem to get random access working on my touch either....says it doesn't have perms to install....aggravating...

Awesome !! Great JOB !!
thanks for sharing .. !
thank you a lot... nice tweak
I've found how to modify the background of the "Menu".
First find the file Launcher.exe.T1.skin in \windows.
Then you must copy the file to your PC and open it (I've used Reshacker).
Then replace the images BMP No 212, 214 (for portrait mode) and No 213 and 215 (for landscape mode) with other bitmap images of the size respectively 240x374 and 400x214.
Finally overwrite it in \windows with Resco Explorer (or similar).
This is mine (as per attechet file)

UPDATE 6 october : Changed the icons. See post n. 20
Really great work, thanks
That's fantastic! Will give it a go later.
If theres a way to change the font color, it will be great !!
Is there also a way to change the collor off the bottem taskbar?
For those who are curious, these are some of the png images hidden in the Launcher.exe.T1.skin file (extracted on a mac with filejuicer and made a screenshot of the generated HTML file)
That's cool. Which program can I use for PC? And I managed to change the background but I'm still looking into changing the font colour.

Doesn't ResHacker allow you to extract or replace the menu png files as well?
No, for the PNGs, all I see is Hex code. I can only replace the Bitmaps.
Anyway thanks to the thread at MoDaCo I managed to find "secstresSilver96.dll" and "secstresBlack96.dll" in \Windows\ and all I did was rename it to "secstres96.dll" on my PC and using Resco Explorer or TotalCmd copy it back to the device and reselect Samsung Today 2 in the Today items and its done, you have a new Today menu, and you can change the fonts colour under settings\theme.

You could try the 30 day trial version of resource tuner it supports png files as well:
http://www.heaventools.com/resource-tuner.htm
BTW the font color in the theme settings doesn't apply to the samsung main menu unfortunatelly
Hi,
is there a way to put other program shortcuts you want onto the menu or in exchange with other programs that you do not or seldom use?
Thank You!
Wow! This really works for my omnia!
It'll be perfect if someone can work out a way to change the font colors too
Hope someone can figure out this very soon!
Cheers!
Ok, I've done the whole procedure up to the last step. Resco tells me that the file "Launcher.exe.T1.skin" is in ROM and I could damage the phone by trying to overwrite the file???
Am I to understand that in order for this to work one needs to have it burned in a modified ROM ???
Haven't played with this burning ROM stuff so not sure if my reasoning is right? I have the I2 ROM version so no need until now to change it.....
Thanks
I suggest you to copy the original file Launcher.exe.T1.skin somewhere in My Storage and then safely overwrite the file that Resco indicates be a ROM file. It's normal that there is this alert.
Nop! Tried that and Resco tells me it couldn't overwrite because the file already exists. So it IS in the ROM..... Well, one day I'll update my ROM and change this file at the same time. Right now I see too many people loosing their Omnia trying to burn new ROM versions. But thanks anyway.

this themes/skin changing only icons on today screen , main menu background its still white and icons its still color check this video in 04:21 main menu its black and all icon its white or grey i trying do it same effect
Lol, you have the icons, now you just need to search for a 240x400 black background, that's not hard to find.
Edit : Oops sorry, i understand that what you want, you want to change the menu icons and the background, not change the today screen.
Than, i think you need to extract and edit the menu icons on photoshop, or somthing like that, because the menu icons not available with the same look of the today icons.
Update: using PE Explorer I managed to change the icons. I attach the file with the icons changed and I thank my friend Duncan for the support.
I attach the new file I've used as for screenshot

I have Pm'd the author of WM Longlife (before you ask) but he can't remember which device he took the screenshot from.
I have found the Office Mobile and Games Icons quite easily and used them in my WM6.1 menu screen as per post #9 of this thread but I can't find the others.
I guess it may be that the folder icons are not on the Topazas standard, in which case is it possiblefor me to import them if someone uploads them onto here?
Many thanks.
im searchin' these icons, too. Can some post the path to the "System Tools" Icon please.
The icons are inside the shellres.dll. You need to edit that dll with a resource editor to change them.
dwizzy130
Thanks Dwizzy but I'm afraid that doesn't mean very much to me - I'm not very teccy.
I've looked in the Windows folder an the dll you mention doesn't appear. (there are some with similar names)
When I created the Office Mobile and Games folders as per the thread I referred to the icons appeared automatically as there was an icon.lnk in the folders. When using explorer though, these .lnk files are no longer visible.
I just tried to create a new .lnk file in a folder called Applications but the files dissapeared afer I rebooted!
I'm just fumbling around really so if you can give some more detailled guidance that would be kind. Thanks.
Adam.

Well the icon.lnk is just a shortcut pointing to the actual icon resource inside the shellres.xxx.dll (Or other dlls). For example, inside the icon.lnk for the Games folder:
1#shellres.dll,-8229
That's all it is. It tells the folder what dll to look in and the -8299 refers to the exact resource number.
Also, are you using WM6.1 or WM6.5?
If you are using 6.5 then there is a much easier way to do this....
dwizzy130
I'm using WM6.1 (When I saw all the comments on here from people that had upgraded I decided it wasn't worth the hassle!)
Are you able to tell what the resource numbers are for the icons in question then?
Thanks.

Not sure if it helps, but I attached all icons that are stored in the shellresxxx.dll file. You should find at least the icon files for the folders inside.
For creating shortcuts, use Resco File Explorer or another free file explorer.
Thanks for the reply BeeGee but I think those Icons come from WM6.5 and I'm using 6.1.
Do you remember that the reference for the Games Folder Icon is: shelres.dll,-8229. Its the equivalent for the folders in question that I'm after.
I also don't have a file simply called shelres.dll. I have three called:
shellresapps.192.dll
shellresapps.96.dll
shellresapps.dll.0409.mui
I've tried using three different resource editors but none will find the phone in the directory tree and I therefore cant get access to the files. I also can't copy the files to my PC because they are protected.
been searching for these icons for a while. there you go...

Ahh. thanks!
Works like a charm
is there a tutorial to making bootanimations like this?
Thanks
Well it's mostly just animating. Corel Animation Shop is an easy to use application that let's you make animations. It has some build in effects so you just need one picture or text and you can add effects to it like fade, wave, shine or zoom. You can easily create an animation like in the firt post with it. But if you want to make more complex animations you will have to draw them image by image, so I'd suggest you to find a better application for that. Using more complex software requires lot of skill and effort.
After you have created your animation you can upload the .gif file here and it will send you a zip file that has all the images separated. Then you just find a bootanimation.zip (ex. from this thread) and replace the images inside it with your own images and rename them correctly: 0.png, 1.png, 2.png... Or if your animation has more than 10 pictures: 00.png, 01.png, 02.png... You also want to make the images the sime size as your screen (800x480) unless your animation has plain white background.
Then you create a folder called "data" and inside it create a folder called "local". Inside the folder "local" you put the bootanimation.zip. Now compress the "data" folder with winrar and set the compression method to "store" as shown above. Now the zip file need to be signed with an easy to use "Sign ROM" tool. You can google for it or pm me to sign it. After that the bootanimation is ready to be flashed.
You might also be able to use RootExplorer to locate the folder /data/local/ and replace the bootanimation.zip with your own one. You might also want to delete or replace the android_audio.mp3 inside the same folder because it's the bootsound file.

not sure about how to use adb to do this, but Root explorer is what I use.. It's one of the most used apps I've purchased..
My bootanimations are stored at:
system/media/ (place bootanimation.zip here)

Hey there,
i'd like to share a little application i made.
The problem:
I was annoyed by the uncomfortable use of MTP in Windows.
Especially when having more and more files in one folder like the camera folder.
Windows needs several minutes to get the complete filelist.
The solution:
i created a little application which pulls files from your android-device via adb.
the app checks all specified folders from the configuration-file and pulls all files which are not existing to the destination folder.
there is also an option to change the created/modified timestamp of images/videos by parsing the filename. this function may be useful for sorting your pictures/videos.

Setting up the app:
the app creates all necessary files on the first start.
after creating, it automatically opens the configuration-file for you to edit it.
there is a comment in every line to understand what the application will do.
there are a couple more of options, read the ini-file-comments to understand.
Requirements:
- Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0
- the ability to modify a textfile
- ADB-Debugging must be enabled on your device
- the internal path you want to sync from your android-device
if you don't know the path, install "es file explorer" or any other file-explorer and try to find out the path. see screenshot...
if you like this tool feel free to donate.

It's a great idea but the tool does not really work well. I tried many different things now and it either didn't sync at all saying there were no files to copy or only copies the one given directory without subdirectories.
I hope it's not programmed that way since it'd be very un-useful for those who'd want to make a backup of their phone before flashing (as example me right now).
Good idea tho, really like it yet!
Hi, thanks for your work. I have a Zenfne 2 and this works for me, but i need to copy all the sdcard folder and subfolders. What i need to do?
Great no-nonsense tool!
Allow me to recommend two minor additions
1) For JPG and PNG file, examine the "DATE TAKEN" meta-tag, and use this for filestamp (by an option)
2) A flag for Traverse Subdirs.
(If not easy on the source side, it could be OK with the destination side, one could easily do a initial full copy in explorer)
ADD:
3) An option NOT to try to supply it's own ADB.exe, without a confirmation dialogue as this might be wrong compared to the version used on the system...
...And a tiny bug.
4) When "OpenAfterCopyOnly" is selected and multiple sync-sections is in use, it should ONLY open the destination folders for the dirs that got new files, not all destinations.
Thanks! Just used this to solve my issue. Phone rebooted within 2 minutes, so doing it straight didn't work for me. Good work!
People interested in this, might find this little tool PortableDevicesIncrementalCopy helpful too
It can do INCREMENTAL copies via MTP of the entire tree, so very handy and reasonably quick to keep a backup including all your images on your PC

Note it is not a MIRROR-function, so files deleted on the device will stay on the PC.
Not work on my pc. Error cannot write file.
