Hi all! I'm thinking of upgrading my Touch to the Touch 3g. I'm not sure though how to go about transferring all my data from the old touch through activesync to the new touch 3g through activesync. I'm sure it is possible, does anyone know how? Help appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!
With ActiveSyc. No problem
What data do you want to transfer..? Files can just be copied over using a pc.. PIMbackup can be helpfull when you want to backup your contacts.. But, when you sync Outlook, u can easily use Outlook to sync contacts the first time. (just mind the sync settings)
If you want to copy over text messages/sms, you will need Yejo.. U should be able to get it done using the trial versionnof yejo/jeyo.
You *could* have found all of this by just using the search on the forum you know..
my.funambol.com
you can use it as backup ,and you cna also keep your phone in sync with outlook thunderbird etc

Because or requirements at my job, we don't use Outlook. We use SyncML to sync contacts and calendar events with our internal server. Really nice being able to sync without hooking ot a computer and anyplace you have GPRS / WiFi access.
Here's a post where I put some info and links about it:

i need an exactly same like palm desktop to sync my contact and calender when sync with usb cable
zzzzzzzzzzzz
any 1 have third party software that can sync contact to desktop to view and edit??
i have try uninstall outlook 2003 and activesync 4.5 many time, and the result remain the same
I have had the ActiveSync problem since 10/2006 and have not found a resolution yet. I have posted on this forum, tried all suggestions and tried everything except a Hard Reset. I still cannot get my Desktop or Laptop to recognize my MDA via ActiveSync even though my Desktop and Laptop recognize my MDA. I have asked for 3rd party software to update my Outlook address book and calendar and have not found anything. I have even asked if there is software to update/change the MDA PIM.VOL file via a desktop or laptop. Still no luck. I have researched this out and checked all possible sites. NO LUCK. I still have not given up. I continue to look daily for a solution other than a Hard Reset.
So, you are not alone. There are many of us out there. ActiveSync is a very poor application. Maybe someday we will find something to use instead of AS. The only think that is missing in the AS is the last 'S'.
Hey friends,
I dont know if this reply is useful for you. I am so new to this forum. I am using a Motorola Mpx220, but gonna get my Cingular 8125 within a couple of days. Anyways, when I was syncing my Mpx, I had the same problem. The solution I found out was(after a long research), while the phone is still connected to the computer, go to Start -> Accessories -> Modem link. In that "USB" connection, make it active and then deactivate. As soon as you do this your active sync will detect the phone and it will sync smoothly.
I have no idea why is it happening like this nor I dont know if it works with MDA coz my Mpx220 is running on WM 2003 SE. I can only check WM 5 after I get my 8125. If this reply help you guys in anyways, please let me know.
Thanks mates.....

So there is no third party "phone manager" like for example Oxygen Phone Manager for Symbian phones ?
Contacts backup without outlook
Try " Jeyo Mobile Companion" . Google for it. It can save the contacts + call log as well as SMS on your comp. You can restore/ update the it any time It doesnt sync though. Just use it for back up purposes. Very hand. You still need to connect that phone to the comp. and AS to recognize your device.
Trust this helps
I assume that I can backup my PIM.VOL file on my 2Gb Storage Card. I have not had to reinstall the PIM.VOL file so I don't know if it really will work. However, I still would like to find an application that will allow me to update/change my Contacts and Calendar without using ActiveSync. Bottom line, why can't we find something that can do this without using AS since we are having problems on using AS? I have used Palms since day 1 and other things without as much problems as AS.

asctony,
AFAIK, you still need AS to connect the PPC to any PC ( I cud be wrong). What you can do is to set AS not to sync your contacts and others and use another 3p software to update / modify contatcts. The prog - Jeyo mobile companion does just that + back up your SMS too. Which is very crucial, in many cases as they cannot be backed up through the regular way.
heya,
have my prophet running pdaviet rom v 4.0.0.0 when i connect to activesync there is no option to save my contacts ( i don't use outlook as it annoys me!!) and i use ubuntu mainly so only use xp for syncing. is there anyway to save them. i like playing around with roms and don't particularly want to manually load them again every time i switch.
cheers guys
ps. if it means using outlook i guess i am willing lol
Yea, you need outlook... Sadly, I had it installed also... Welcome to the club!
still a problem
right when i have active sync isnatlled and it wont allow me to share my contacts. as i say im using a pdaviet windows mobile 6 rom. its a bit frustrating. in the menu of things to select syncing only the bottom 3 are avalable. this does not include contacts, only favourites etc....
chees
????
please anyone? or anybody got any idea of any roms (windows or different) thats will sync?
Hi all.
I gave my TyTN to my GF a long while ago and she used it only with cable sync using MS AS 4.5 and Windows XP.
Well she's since a while back using Windows Vista (Home ed) and want to start using her TyTN again and here's my question:
She has a lot of stuffs stored on her TyTN (mailbox, calendar, tasks and notes) that she hasn't got anywhere else. As I see it the WMDC cleares the device by default when adding a partnership.
Is there any way to pass by that problem? Otherwise she won't be able to use it again and she can't get her old stuff back to the puter?
I know that she should have put it all to a .pst-file before changing puter, but that's to late for it now...
Plz. anyone help me. (feel free to pm me or get in touch in any way you want...)
Use a backup program... I use SPB 2.0.1 (it is a commercial program but it does have a trial period I believe with 5 backup and restores) - it seems to be what I need. It backs up EVERYTHING... You could also use pim backup (its on the forum and its freeware|). This will save all your contacts and messages.
Cheers...
Thanx m8 =)
Hello,
I wanted to backup my data from my XDA terra but I don't get an ActiveSync (4.5) connection to the device although there's a working USB-/ TCP-IP-connection.
The network connection to the Herals is enabled on the Desktop PC
If I try a HTC Kaiser there's no problem with connecting and syncing.
The Kaiser get's the same IP like the Herald if connected to the Desktop-PC (not both at the same time!) - so DHCP works fine on the Desktop-PC.
I suppose it's a Windows Mobile 6 problem, because there seems to bei no WM6-Active Sync running.
I already deleted the partnerships, an rebooted Desktop PC and Herald.
I'm afraid of doing a hard reset to the Herald, because I don't want to lose all my data (contacts, dates and SMS/MMS).
Do I have any chance of backing up my data/transfering it to the kaiser?
You won't be able to back up your SMS/MMS this way, but you could always sign up for a free account at http://live.mail2web.com and sync with them to leave a copy of your contacts, dates and to do list on the server as a backup.
pim backup is another solution a very good back up system backups contacts caall log sms and emails

I'm no fan of sharing personal data through an online system I can't control.
Last time I switched my Windows Mobile device I used Outlook in combination with Jejo's to transfer my contacts, dates and SMS/MMS.
It worked fine, but I need a working Active Sync connection.

Don't I need an working Active Sync connection for installing new software?
Second thing is that I'd like to sell the Herald device - but only if it's fully functional - including Active Sync connection.
There must be a reason why the Harold does not connect to Active Sync while any other WM device can.
Guys,
is there any other good email sync prog for syncing emails from a laptop - outlook to windows mobile 6.1 ??
Im in on this one.
i have a sony vaio notebook, and for some reason there is no way for activesync to work on this thing. i install it at work. *plop* and it works. done
i tried everything at home here. but still for example when installing hardspl or simply just wanting to backup my data or sync my tasks i want to use this
is there any alternative? or an expert on activesync whos up for the challenge?
