Your Sprint Mogul must haves? - Mogul, XV6800 General

I am issuing a brand-newbie question warning to start with...Ok, I expect to see my Mogul in the mail sometime today. I bought one gently used online, and its set to arrive exactly as they come from Sprint, with wm6.0
So I've been reading around on modifications, upgrades, roms, etc...
My first really dumb question is:
1. What is a "radio" roms function? I see radio versions and releases all over the site, but don't quite understand what it is for.
Next I really just want to know what some personal experiences with the Mogul have made some software must haves for people.
At a glance I think I'll be doing the wm6.1 update so that tv and gps are enabled, and then I thought about installing the wisbar softwares. I kind of like the idea of things being larger so I don't have to use the Stylus as often. I even considered the iphone skins, but have been warned by others to beware that it will slow the machine down, and I don't want to turn it into a snail.
Any and all input for a rookie is appreciated.

by default the newest Sprint (ROM) - (updated OS, Drivers and Tweaks) has a larger theme for using just your finger.
I would say must haves are
Pim Backup -saves cotacts txt emails ect.
Samsung Omnia 3D driver for titan(Mogul) better 3D performance.
HTC Home-better on screen bigger on screen clock
Those are the 3 main thing.
Now for a Radio its how the cell phone connects with the tower but requires you r unlock your phone and voids the warrenty its now very simple but still scary.
Im bout to go back to work for 3hours and then ill b back to add more to this.
If you want I can get you a Download link for many programs. just e-mail me [email protected]

Thanks for explaining the radio rom simply. I am on sprint and the Mogul I got is a sprint phone. But its an eBay purchase so I don't have a warranty to worry about.

Two apps which are must haves for me are S2U2 and S2P. Both can be found in the Development and Hacking forum.

Damn, mail came and the phone still isn't here. It must've been mailed parcel post.

SPB Mobile Shell
Phone Alarm
Mortplayer w/darkglass skin
Egress 4.1
Oxios
Pocket Informant
Opera mini
Opera 8.65 or 9.5 if you don't mind the keyboard bugs and out of memory warnings. Use mostly for downloading.
WKtask 1.0.2.4 - later versions don't allow you to easily terminate the phone app, freeing up 4-12 mb when needed.
Coreplayer if you don't mind paying, tcpmp if you do.

7z is 7zip. Excellent format to zip files. Much better compression than standard zip.

Use Ultimatezip to extract. At least that's what I use.

I have one that I'm using that doesn't require installing another app that hogs up memory. This is a simple Vista "aero" type theme and a nice dialer to match. I'm using them now and I like 'em. I think I might have even gotten them from the forum, or maybe not. Anyhow, enjoy!

I see from your Avatar that your sporting the new Hermes headset. It's nice 'cos it doesn't require the Bluetooth connection - you just tuck the Hermes inside next to your ear and away you go; and with Wifi on it keeps your ear warm as well. I've heard a rumour that there's a dual core Hermes with twin hand-sets that keeps both ears warm. Bit itchy though??

Not sure what the problem is, Zgembo was able to get it extracted and working. Are you just extracting the whole folder onto your desktop (or somewhere) and then moving it over to the phone?
Exactly, simple as cake... Just copy two file to any folder of your phone, and run it... Dialer (bigger .cab file) is just an option, instals as standard application... Skin (.tsk file) is very compact, and just double click it to add it to phone's themes... You can delete these files after installation...
does anyone know any drawback to the ETEN dialer besides losing video call as an option?

i can build wizard roms and cabs, etc.. but when it comes to *.tsk and dialer skins, i will admit defeat.. i have tried at those and failed so many times.. its not that i couldnt create them, its that they looked horrible.. i am seriously lacking in artistic skills.. i might look into anyway since i am dying to start cooking roms but the bootloaders on these phones right now is a major roadblock.. we will see what time has in store for me
Excellent phone skin! I love it!
i found the site where the nice dialer was from:
http://www.paulya.com/dialerskins.htm
he appears to have E-TEN dialers with Smartdial (scroll down to the bottom round classic) It states the "Blackglass" has smartdial. Anyone try that out on a TyTN?
Anyone know how to fix the AeroMobile.tsk theme to support the Portrait mode? When I slide out my keyboard, the skin should strech but doesn't. I tried to fix it with MS Theme Generator, but no luck... Any suggestions? I'm using Pocket PC 2002 Theme Generator V2, as that seems to be the last release from MS.

Full iPhone UI?

I am new to the whole XDA scene as I only bought my Wizard a couple of days ago.
badically i was wandering if it would be possible to install the iPhone UI (with the slide to unlock thingy, and the all the menus etc) and be able to swap between that and windows whenever I want. Is this possible? If not, how hard is it to go back to the normal windows mobile?
(Would this have anything to do with installing ROMs? I have never done anything with phone ROMs before, only with emulation software.)
Thanks!
read in the general forum, there is a 'slide to unlock thread' a 'how to make your phone look like the iphone' etc
always seemed like a backwards step to me and jumping on the bandwagon, so i have not done anything like it. i think it requires phoneAlarm (payware) and cLaunch (freeware) to do so

Make Your own Panel (I think)

Hi All,
Don't know if somebody already posted this, but I couldn't find a thread about it.
I just saw a link in a Dutch forum regarding a website where you can create your own panel.
Here's the link: http://www.mysonyericssonblog.com/x1panelcreator/index.php?step=1&lang=en
It's just that my Italian is not that good, so I cannot find the guide. Maybe somebody here can find it and explain how it exactly works. But it sure looks promising.
Herman
Here is the English tutorial
BTW. It's an HTML panel designer
WOW Nice find,
without reading it all yet, will do later, it looks like it will be incredibly simple to do something such as a program launcher.
cool, i'm thinking of making a Hyves panel (dutch facebook like social website)..
Groet, Steven
this sounds great but i dont know how to program in html
anyone one able to give me a basic guide
Wow! This is a great find!
Now I just need to come up with some good panel ideas...
Nice!

Get hold of a WYSIWYG website editor and use one of those..
I think dreamweaver is still available as a trial, try that to build what you want to see, then save the page as html.
otherwise there's huge amounts of websites that give tutorials on html, it's not difficult at all.
SE Panel SDK supports native panel (i.e. panel developed using windows programming technique) and html-based panel. the latter will be more designer-friendly, but probably won't be sophiscated as the native since API will be limited. That said, with all the panel request on running certain app as the background, I got to say html-based panel might just well do the job.
This is a really awesome find. Makes things simpler/quicker...

Sounds like a good idea.
At the minute im just making a simple development panel.
Just so people can see how it works when they look at the HTML of the panel etc.
Ive managed to open .exe's etc, just wondering how to open sections of the .exe.
For example: clock.exe opens up the alarm bit where you can set alarms. However im wondering if the tabs on that part are also part of clock.exe

IE 6?

Has anybody tried this on there Titan yet?
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/6on6
I've used IE6 from no2chem's NueROM-M 201 and it rocks! You can find download here for that ROM. I've heard not-so-good things about using IE6 before I actually used it, and I have to say it probably is one of those that you either love or hate. I happen to love it. New download manager, better zoom support, JS, CSS, Flash, switch between Desktop and Mobile code view. I have to say - as a web developer and WinMo user for the better part of two years - do everything you can to get this application. It is awesome!
Jacob,
Glad to hear that you liked the new IE6, I can't wait to try it.
I am sure someone will be looking for it, so sere's a direct link to the standalone IE6 .cab: HERE.
Thanks in advance,
Matt!
Does the cab, IE6, replace IE Mobile? How is performance on the titan, with its limited memory, is IE6 actually usable or is it like Opera 9 (Out of memory errors)?
I'm on the NueROM as well and I found it to be very slow - especially when used to browse forums.

thanks, can you tell us where is cab from?
Unable to find app
I installed the cab, it asked to restart my phone, I did so and now I am unable to find any changes. I've repeated this process twice. The first time I installed to main memory with no joy. The second I installed to the memory card and was unable to locate any changes at all in any folders. I tried launching pIE to see if it was just a overall replacment also to no avail. I could use some help if I've don'e something incorrect.
Yeah I see no changes. Is this really the right cab? Hopfully if I uninstall it, it won't delete my mobile IE
Since I backed up everything, Im very daring.
I've tested this uninstall for you and it doesn't remove pIE
Im going to take apart the cab and see whats in it.
**edit**
I don't know what Im looking for to be honest. It went quicker to view it than I thought.
Thanks I appreciate it. I would like to know where the thread of that attachment came from.
Hmm. The more I use the IE Mobile and read about it, the more it seems to be missing. I have the browser set to mobile view, yet it stays in full desktop style. Had this problem in NueROM and now in GaMedic's ROM. Was under the impression it doesn't work - now I wonder if it just isn't working on my Mogul for some reason.
EDIT - Oops. I need to clarify - the mobile/desktop toggle works in that it disguises my mobile when I goto sites that auto-detect. I really miss the One-Column style browsing. Any way to bring that back?
Its really slow and the web pages dont fit the screen so I quickly removed it

My new HD2

Well, I finally got my HD2, and have been getting to grips with it for about 2 days now. Pretty steep learning curve but go it connected to home wifi, and I'm just considering which apps to put on it? I apologise in advance if I ask a question that's already been answered, and only ask that someone point me in the right direction? Happy posting!
For a beginner!!
Perfect free tested apps for HD2
Co0kie's Home Tab 1.8.5 and its editor (a must have app finally for customizing the home tab)
Midomi (song recognizer)
Datacontroller (controls data internet connection)
Skyfire (IE with flash support)
coreplayer (best player)
Nimbuzz (IM collected)
Dragonball (cooooool game, luxor style)
Openwebradio (free international internet radio but needs TCPMP)
Mp3 trimmer (cuts mp3s to use as ringtones)
Reboot
Omniano the band v 1.1.2 (best free music instruments collected)
IGO8 (best GPS navigator)
Stopwatch
Getytv (download youtube videos)
Omarket (free app market)
TCPMP (player)
cleanRam
uconvert (best converter)
Duttys task manager for Leo (brings back the top right corner task manager)
SPB TV (awesome international internet tv)
Mp3 tag editor
Scilor's groovemobile v13 (retrieves songs from a database to listen to and be added to playlists for later playing)
Scilor's groovedownloaderwm (downloader for songs)
SciLor's LeoCameraAnyKey (allows capturing of photos thru the volume keys)
BSB tweaks (cool tweaks for the HD2)
JWMD icon changer (change app icons and themes)
Experiment 13 (cool game with nice graphics)
Just search for them on the site or try googling!!
Welcome to the world of HD2, Enjoy!!!
In case u don't know how to install....
The files' extension is .cab
Transfer the app thru bluetooth or by usb cable then search for the file then install it, i recommend installing the apps on the storage card except for BSB tweaks, datacontroller and skyfire better to be on device.
Try to save all the source files (the .cab ones) in a separate folder on the storage card for later reference .
My 2 cents.
First off coreplayer isn't free but it is worth the cash. Also look up wifi remote access premium. Again not free but it's only £5 on ms marketplace and it is probably the best application i have. It allows you to transfer files, edit the registry and remotely control your phone, amungst other things, over wifi.
Secondly, once you have got to grips with your new gadget, look at installing a new rom. It's probably the best thing i have done to mine since i've had it. New roms third party roms include a lot of the free apps and usually increase the performance of your Leo. I prefer the energy standard series but there are tons of other options.
The brilliance of owning a windows mobile or even an android based device is that they are extremely customisable if you have the willing and patience to learn how to do it. You are right, the learning curve can be steep, but it is totally worth it if you put the effort in.
As a side note, there are some apps (coreplayer is an example) that use activesync (or windows mobile device center) and an .exe file on your PC to install the program on to the phone but to be honest once you get your head around everything it's not too hard to figure out what you need to do to install any program.

Best place to ask that question is in the android boards. There is a sticky thread that should cover all your questions.
from personal experience I thought "omarket" was a great place to start as most apps mentioned can be download from there . You might have to register/download the app through the website then after installation use the app to download other apps from your hd2. The website Is www.freewarepocketpc.net

The only thing I would recommend from omarket is the htcaddicts cleanram utility.... but I think you can get that on xda.......
Seeing as nobodys mentioned Cookies Home Tab yet I thought Id throw that in the mix......... Have a look at the CHT thread
Once you've got your apps sorted you can spend the rest of your life trying out all the different sense modifications / themes that are out there......
oh yea how can we forgot CHT??
re my earlier post, i meant to say omarket is a great place to start in terms of downloading your first app that was it ...but xda is the dogs bollocks you dont have to look elsewhere

Calm down and try app one by one.
And also follow any instructions CAREFULLY.
Don't forget to read any warnings.
T8585
Hello everyone,
I got my new T8585 last Saturday. Had a hard time sync contacts from Outlook 2010 (64-bit), finally found that it is not possible and had to install outlook 2007 and then do the all importing exporting and sync. Finally was able to get that done yesterday and have all my contacts moved to HD2.
Still not sure how to feed in the aniversary/bday reminders as i was always using Nokia before this device.
Have not customized anything yet, just able to configure the WiFi and 3G and copy contacts.
Also my vendor said that if I change ROM, my 1 yr warranty would be void. So not thinking about modifying ROM (1.48.720.2 an Radio 2.05.51.05_2).
I have noticed that the battery is really poor with this devide, specially if I keep the WiFi on. Are there any tweaks to modify the battery life?
Any suggestions to make most of this device will be great.
Thanks for all the help and advice.

Thanks richteralan. I've got about 7 apps on my device now, and read the reviews instructions/feedback carefully before deciding which ones to install. Many thanks for the advice tho. Much appreciated.

Yet more thanks conantroutman! CHT was one of the apps that had the biggest influence on my decision to get this bit of kit. I've now got it installed, along with NET3.5 and CHT editor. (salute)

Welcome xprav. You've come to the RIGHT place to get the answers to all those questions! I had mine about a week, and am enjoying it immensely! I plan to mod the rom eventually, but I'm in no hurry just yet. There are plenty of tweeks and mods to try before you do that. I'd start with Cookies home tab & editor? Install NET3.5 to get it up and running first tho, and check in regularly for advice/guidance?
how do i install net 3.5 and where can i get the CHT editor from? will be great help, thanks
i would also like to know that why CHT Editor is so important, looking for the same on google too
