System Volume Max x10 - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Hi Guys
When I have the HTC earphones plugged into my diamond, the volume CAN'T be changed.
It's extremely loud and therefore hurts my ears and damages the speakers.
The volume does NOT go softer when I change the system volume or the volume of Windows Media Player.
This happens ONLY when I play music.
The volume of videos and the radio CAN be adjusted - no problem!
I've never had a decent portable music player.
I really want to listen to music.
Somebody please help me!

got almost the same Problem. I found out: it depends on the rom you are using. With Aztor V7 I could adjust it, and thanks to some configuration tool (Advanced Config or s.th. like that) I could reduce the over all sound volume to an acceptable hight.
With bepes Roms the sound volume was too quite.
My solution: I ordered bluetooth headphones now - with tunable volume. Hopefully that will help, but the volume problem on the Diamond really is nasty....

Well I dont have this problem so it is not a diamond issue, maybe the image you're using?
I seem to remember that at some point I had a similar problem with a previous image but it is gone now. I am running the latest panosha
Of course the volume cannot be changed if the device is in stand-by, you need to turn on the screen and then change it.

I have NOT messed about with the ROM.
Still running the original HTC Rom.
The problem is probably somehow linked to Diamond Tweak or Avenced Config Tool.
I've checked and re-check their settings time and again.
I am stumped.
What 2 do... what 2 do...

Touch HD incredibly loud through headphones?

Anyone find it incredibly loud through headphones both system sounds and the touch flo music player? I have to have it all the way down to 1 bar in the system volume control.
Funnily enough coreplayer will play at reasonable volumes.
EDIT: maklik found a great solution. Volume reduced for headphones but still plays loud if not plugged in
maklik said:
u may edit the registry file:
Local_machine\software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\SavedHandSetVolume
Change DWORD to 0
plug in the headphone and adjust the system volume to 2-3%
u may find that if you once plug headphone into your mobile the volume will adjust to previous volume you saved, if you plug it out, the volume will restore to normal
question2,
the music too loud, you can edit the registry to fix it too
Local_machine\software\HTC\AudioManger_eng\Config\music_player_volumn
Change the DWORD to 10 or lower and soft-reset the mobile
the music will become lighter in the TouchFLO3D music player
sorry for poor eng, i come from HK ~ cheers

Usually phones are to quiet. that is an odd problem.
I'm having the same problem when listening streming radio station with my active Bose headphones. I have Media Player down to 5% volume but it is still quite loud. CorePlayer is ok, but that doesn't play the streaming format my station is using.
I'm finding it ok.
But you can use HD Tweak or Config Tool to lower the volume in the reg settings, that way it should be fine.

Have the same loud sound through the headphones even at lowest level. I prefer it after having a quietish Polaris. I think I remember seeing all the settings at 100 in the registry files so may be it is undoable?
Wow, are you kidding? I find it absolutely not loud at all!!... But I have a german (europe) version, so perhaps its the limitation... Does anyone know how to get this limitation away?? Please, I really searched a lot, but didn't find anything with my keywords and my fantasy is out now... So, I think there must be a cab or something like this, if anyone knows it, please post it or give me the link^^ greez, cad
@Cadenza: You should be able to remove the limitation using "HD Tweak"
Same problem here though: Sounds too loud for me ...
Thank you very much for your answer!!! Its true, I didn't try until now HD-tweak, only Advanced config and this doesn't have this option. So thanks a lot, I'll try this^^ haha, I want it loooud ok, now btt, I'm sorry that I post so offtopic, I really don't want to disturb you here but thanks a lot!!! Greez, cad^^
I gotta agree its very loud even at the lowest setting. I've just installed HD Tweak and see no way to lower my sound as the EU limitation is already active.
It's a funny problem to have, it is usually the opposite with anything you buy in the EU, maybe i can sue htc if i go deaf . If it makes any difference I use in ear earphones (otherwise you can't hear anything on London underground) could that be the cause?
Figure there mut be a registry setting somewhere to control this.
I also think it's way too loud, even though I've got a danish version, which should be limited... I dunno.
In wmp it's no problem though, cause it has it's own volume control.
HD tweak only allows to up the volume, not to lower it. Anybody got an idea?
LOL
Just tried mine and about blew my ears off! LOL
funny
Lol that were my thoughts exactly when I used my earphones for the first time! I only tested it on my own sennheisers though, not on the stock phones. Can anyone confirm that I can change this using that Tweak tool?
It's even worse through my UE Super.Fi 5 Pro as it approximately double the loudness compared to standard headphones. I hardly ever go above level 1 or 2.
I can't imagine what it would be like at level 15... Probably blow up my headphones.
Level 1 is not so bad during the day with lots of external noise but at night it's too loud!
no fix for this?
I thought s2p would help me get around this but I agree its still too loud... I like to sleep to music and this verges on painful on all but the very lowest setting... I've switched to a headset I use on my computer for voip calls that has a volumn control but I would much prefer a solution that allows me to use my Bose earbuds
using wmp solves the problem, as it has it's own volume control. But I want to use the htc player in tfl3d.

Sounds like you have a faulty Touch HD. I would backup your stuff and try a hard reset to see if this issue still persists.
No way I can turn to max volume. I would go deaf...
Hi Guys, I also have UE super.fi 5 pro's and find the HD stupidly loud! The only way I can listen to music before I go to sleep is to have the volume on the lowest setting and turn all the equaliser settings down to minimum! Any Help yet?!

some questions about customization...

hi there!
i just got my hd last week and i played around with it only a little with help and advise from a friend whos active here on the board...
still i have some questions about some things i was unable to solve:
1.) the sound of my phone while playing music via earplugs is way too loud. while 20% were set as default when switching the phone on in the first place, setting the volume to 1 or 2% still is too loud for me. how can i adjust the sound volume to a more "normal" level? (meaning that i can set the volume to ~5% as "hard to hear anything" and 100% as "extreme loud"). don't get me wrong. i like loud music but this is definitly too much... using the slide2play-player is sth like a workaround for this since it comes with a seperate volume controller but this isn't a real solution...
2.) how do i set the sound volume via the side-buttons in SMALL steps? like 2% per click. clicking up or down once in/decreases the volume by ~20%. this is no way to use this. especially combined with problem #1...
3.) this is nothing software-related, but i'm searching for a (wired) headset for my touch hd with a control on it to adjust the volume, control the music player (play, pause, next and last track), take and end calls. like the hpm-82 for sony-ericsson handys. important: in-ear-plugs! searched around a bit, but found nothing...
noone here with an idea?
For me was also very loud, but now i'm using WMP with which also i can adjust loudness.....But with any player and you can adjust with it....
for #1: is there a "general" volume setting (somewhere hidden in windows) i can adjust?
there are some tweaks in advanced config which help you BOOST the volume but for decreasing it i dont know. anyway about #2 it's an issue that i would like to see solved as well... i somewhat managed to sortof workaround it by invoking the menu screen with the volume hardkeys and then tapping on the desired volume level directly with finger. of course it's all but handy, still it works.

Volume rocker in Youtube and email LED

Hi,
When using the youtube app the volume rocker acts as rewind/fast forward and doesnt change the volume. This is really annoying. Is there any way to change this as I dont want to go into a youtube video, assess the volume of the vid, come out of it and then set the handset volume accordingly.
Secondly, is there a way to enable the notification LED to blink when email is received to the handset? Looked in settings but the option to enable it is greyed out...
Seconded on the YouTube thing. What were they thinking? Any tips?
Indeed.... can't really tell you how much I didnt enjoy loading up a gaga video only to have my ears DESTROYED by beyonce's wailing as she was in the song too
I had the first problem for a while too, here's how I fixed it:
-Download, install and start AEButton
-Disable the volume rocker buttons
-Re-enable them
-AEButton will now tell you that it'll restart the device, let it do so
-Fixed
I don't have HD2 yet, but the HTC volume control should have a custom setting for the Youtube app in order for it to work properly. On other HTC devices, it's under HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\InhouseAPClass\YouTube and should be HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\InhouseEnable2ndUI\HTCYOUTUBE. Do you guys have these keys? If not, you can try to create them and value under them, ClassName=HTCYOUTUBE and Enable2ndOverlay=0 respectively. Also, you could try to go to HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\3rdPartyAPClass, create a key there (name it anything, could be YouTube), and ClassName=HTCYOUTUBE under it. The latter hack allows to have the youtube-style volume control in any application (I use it for CorePlayer, for example).
Hope this will work...
Sigh, just found out that when playing a song under the music tab - and you use the volume rocker, surprise surprise it doesnt actually control the volume at all! It controls the track listings.
Bah! This is a STUPID idea, a shame really!!
WHAT??? Volume rocker doesn't control volume during playback? And how are we supposed to do it?
Correct. Unless it's just mine, but I doubt it?
How to control volume you ask? Well that's simple.
You come OUT of the music application and then adjust the volume, and then go back INTO the application..... Logical.
That's a damn stupid design decision. Beside the inconvenience, music player doesn't need to have the same volume level as the rest of the phone! On my HD I have maximum volume for system/ringer, whereas my music player is set to like 20%. When I plug the headphones in and start it, it's set automatically to this level - otherwise I'd be deaf by now.
And does this happen both with the headset plugged in and without it? Again, on Touch HD you can adjust volume even when the device is turned off while music is playing.
So could anyone check the registry keys I mentioned earlier? Hopefully, it's just a missing setting...
Just read my post again on how to fix it, and no, it's not a design decision, it used to just control the volume for me, it only started controlling playback once I used the mediacontrols on the headset.

Volume Rocker
The Volume rocker works perfectly for me in both YouTube & Music player.
volume keys work for volume in both youtube and music for me..
is there anything you've installed that could interfere?
Hi Fards, great to see you in this thread. You were a valuable asset at ironing out bugs & probs when I was using Itjes Xperia ROM's. I'm sure you will be here too.

Now that just makes it a whole lot worse. I had nothing installed when I tested YouTube originally. Volume controls control cue/reverse. Does that mean unit defective?

Possibly. Though its a stock rom sim-free unit. Even if its just a software bug or a rom issue, average Joe (or Josephine) shouldn't have to go hacking the registry, or what not, to fix it. Imagine trying to explain that convoluted series of (potentially disastrous) steps just to make your bloody volume button WORK...
Different roms should not justify this oddity.

See entry 24 for solution here:

Indeed, it would appear it is a problem with the headset, damn bizarre.
This is what happened with me anyway...
Listened to music with the headset in and then the volume controls control the track playback, not the volume, whilst you are IN the application. As soon as you come out then yea that's fine it controls the volume again.
When you disconnect the headset, the settings don't seem to revert and once you go back into the music application, the volume rocker still controls the damn playback not the volume......
.... actually i don't know. From using my headset yesterday I've just tried adjusting volume in the music app now this morning and the volume rocker isnt doing ANYTHING when in the music application....
***
Resetting seems to solve the problem, don't know when the problem will re-occur though. To be honest, I don't know how to alter registries and things like that!
oh this is ridiculous there HAS to be a way to fix this.. i dont ever want these to do anything OTHER than volume.
OR have a volume control on the inline
at the moment i have skip controls on the headphones AND skip controls on the side of the phone!

How to change bluetooth audio volume?

I'm using HD2 with a Jabra BT3030 bluetooth headset and the problem is that even with the lowest volume setting on Jabra the volume is too loud making my ears hurt.
I can work around this by editing the audio files' volume on my computer before transferring them to my phone but that means some extra work so I was wondering if it's possible to change the volume through some registry tweaks on HD2?
I found the bluetooth settings at HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth but can't seem to find anything regarding volume levels.
Is changing the volume possible at all?
Same here! HD2 + BT3030. Voicecall volume is ok, by pressing the volume button on BT3030 the volume control on HD2 is popping up and works as it should.
But if ur listening to music, the BT3030 internal volume control gets back in action, and the lowest setting is still too loud. Changing volume with hardware buttons on HD2 is showing the volume bar but doesnt change the volume.
Any solutions?
I do have the same problem. After testing my HD2 one day with BT3030 I would say all is prefect apart from this issue mentioned and unfortunately this is currently a NO-GO to me. I love my BT3030 and don't want give it away.
A little bit of tweaking maybe will bring some light at the end of the tunnel
Cheers,
LEE
I have the opposite issue with a Plantronics headset: the volume is too too low!
Can you help me?
Thanks in advance
I have the Philips BT Headset.
Volume is very high to start with.
The volume buttons don't respond very well ... but if you hold them down, the volume does eventually change to a sensible level. It will go up and down ... just need to be patient.
Paul.
Have to push this thread because this problem is killing me. I have a Sony-Ericsson HBH-IS800 headset and everything worked perfect with my Touch HD, but now it's useless for me if I can't change the Music volume.
Any solutions for this problem???
Just found out that the volume controls of the CorePlayer can change the volume
Tried it also with Nitrogen, Windows Media and the Manila Music Player, but CorePlayer is the only one that can change the volume for my Bluetooth headset
/HKLM/software/widcomm/plugin/av >> all the volume settings should be there. try to play with it.
Only found one interesting point: DisableRcVolumeControl. Setting it to 0 ends in a message "the connected BT-headset doesn't support volume control. control the volume on the headset itself".
That's BS, i can control the volume over headset in phonecalls and even if no application is opened it controls the system volume. So still no solution found

I guess you managed in:
menu>tools>settings>Audio page
the Volume and Preamp settings???
How did you set them?
I have a HD2 and BT3030.. Same problem with volume level.
I have tried with Coreplayer as suggest. I cannot turn down the volume on the BT3030, but turning it down in Coreplayer will lower the volume level.
I really hope for a tweak here.
It seems to be the bluetooth connections/software interface that is doíng something wrong.
still playing around with it...
If Coreplayer is player with low volume it will be low volume in the BT3030.
Pressing Play on the BT3030 will start manilla, with low volume as well... unfortunately with the sound from both coreplayer and manilla player. As long as coreplayer is playing (not running) manilla volume will be low. As soon as coreplayer is munted or stopped the volume on the manilla will go up.
Hope this can help some smart tweakers....
I found a similar thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-424565.html
they tweaked with theres files:
Using a registry editor, I've changed the following key values:
HKLM\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\Config\music_pl ayer_volumn --> 20 (default: 100)
HKLM\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\Information\vol umn --> 20 (default: 100)
It seems that the default volume level of the HTC player (aka manilla player; I am not right?) is too loud.
I will try and play with this within the next couple of days..

I've just changed the volume at the lower right corner of the home screen of CorePlayer.
Btw it's the same setting as menu>tools>settings>Audio page>Volume.
Preamp is 0, and Volume is at 30.
I am also having a problem controlling the volume when using my SE HBH-DS200 bluetooth headset. Coreplayer's volume control works, but s2p's does not.
It looks like Coreplayer has its own independent volume control, seperate from the system volume. The other media players (s2p, and at a guess all the others mentioned in this thread) use the system volume.
the problem seems to be that the bluetooth audio connection is ignoring the system volume setting. Anyone have an idea of how we can fix this?
Would like to find a solution as well.
I have a Samsung WEP420 BT headset and the volume is too low. I can barely hear the other calling party specially with some surrounding noise.
We need to approach HTC on this issue, it is a obvious bug in the Widcomm bluetooth stack, I had previous Widcomm based HTC phones with the same headsets that had no issues.
This is a copy of my email to HTC, feel free to email them and add any pertinent info:
There is a serious bug with the Widcomm Bluetooth Stack on the HTC HD2. It is impossible to change the volume of any Bluetooth Stereo headset from the phone.
This is critical as most bluetooth stereo headsets do not have a built in volume control and they rely on the phone for volume adjustment.
This makes my HD2 useless as the volume on my bluetooth headset (Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800, or Jabra BT3030) is at %100 all the time.
Please address this issue with a software patch or a system firmware update.
My HTC Nexus One does not suffer from this issue, and previous Widcomm based HTC phones I have owned did not suffer from this bug.
Thanks
Great. Thanks. Hope HTC will really come out with a patch soon!
Here is HTC's reply:
Hello G, I understand how frustrating it can be when a device does not function as expected. I have tested this complaint and found that our test device exibits the same behavior. Adjusting any volume levels on the device itself does not affect the volume output of the headset, with the exception of setting the Windows Media Player Mobile volume to 0%, which will stop audio from coming out of the headset all together. There are no planned patches for the HD2 at this time, but I will submit your concern on this issue to our feedback department for condsideration in any updates that may enter development in the future. If you have any further questions or concers, please feel free to contact us again or check www.htc.com as well. We also invite you to participate in our feedback survey at survey.htc.com/worldwide. We enjoy getting feedback from our customers and look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Joseph
We need to step this up if we ever want it fixed, everyone needs to send a suport request to HTC so that they understand that this is a major issue.

Adjust A2DP Volume from phone?

Did a search, but "A2DP Volume" returns mainly headset reccomendations etc.
Just got a Altec lansing T515. Bargain at just £15 inc p+p!
Paired up fine with the HD2 and seems to work great so far (for the price).
My only dissapointment is that the volume controls on the phone do nothing to the volume of the headset/speakers.
I was really planning on getting some good use out of this wireless audio through a better amp and speakers but would really need to be able to use the HD2 as a remote control (Inc volume control).
Is there an app/utility/reg hack that will let me adjust the A2DP volume directly on the HD2???
Any and all advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
try it with windows media player and not the htc sense music player
Thanks mate, tried that.... same deal (almost).
When I adjust the volume inside WMP it still does nothing to the volume of the speaker/headset BUT when I press the mute button or lower the vol to 0% the sound on the BT Speaker DOES mute.
Also at one point I did get some funky 'pairing' problem where the wireless volume was changing using the HD2 volume rocker but the sound quality was terrible. Not sure what happened but I switched off/on bluetooth and when the devices paired again - the sound was back to good quality but the volume no longer worked.
Can anyone please confirm that I should be able to control the volume using the HD2 on ANY A2DP headset/speaker?
I'm currently using EnergyRom Maxsense 23xx 24th July.
Might switch to the 21July 23121 CHT ROM instead to see if that changes things.
But can anyone first please confirm that this SHOULD be working? or let me know of a regHack /cab/app I need to use or apply to get this 'remote volume' working?
Anyone help on this ^^^ please?
Same problem here with expensive Sony headset and reasonably priced JVC. Report it to HTC as a fault. No fix yet afaik
hmm well im getting my jaybird sportsband in a few days through mail, ill report in on if they work or not
This problem i have with all my bluetooth headsets ( i have had 3 ) and also have with the altec lansing soundblade (a bluetooth speaker - really cool)
the problem is that the volume control in software only effects the audio drive,a but A2D2 driver is on a different path so not affected.
For me has not been a problem because volume is always outputted at max via A2D2 and then i use volume control on the headsets or the speaker to reduce as required.
But i see if you have a headset without volume control then this can be a major problem.
Only method i did find to adjust volume via software was install SRSwow and in the options it is having 2 gain settings, input and output. Adjusting these does affect A2D2 volume.
I know its not a fix but it is a work around that may be usefull untill someone has a better option for you
Thanks very much for your input peeps!
rumpleforeskin: (Funniest name Ive seen all week lol)
Sounds like its not just a problem with my headset/speaker (or headset / ROM combo).
Ive got volume controls (which do work) On the headset adapter and on the speaker, but I REALLY want/need to be able to control volume remotely as I was planning to link the adapter to an amp without a remote control.
Looks like SRSWow might be the solution for now....I'll give it a try and report back tonight.
Thanks again for all your help chaps.
I actually fear this could be a demonstration the output audio is hardware wired and not software driven, thus meaning full incall recording will never be possible.
