802.1x Campus Network on Touch Pro/Fuze - Networking

Hey guys, I've been lurking for a few months now and have been able to figure out all my questions with the almighty search, but this is one that I'm having issues with.
I picked up the AT&T Fuze a couple weeks ago, and immediately flashed it to ROMeOS 1.40. Everything is working great, except I am having problems connecting to my schools wireless network.
The campus uses 802.1x and WPA. On desktop and laptop machines connected to the network, they require the use of Cisco Clean Access.
Here is the link to the ITS (Information Technology Services) page that covers smartphones, PDAs, etc...not very detailed is it? http://its.truman.edu/documentation/index.asp?docId=327
I'm trying to connect with the following settings:
Best performance power mode
Network Name: TrumanSecureWireless
Connects to: The Internet
Authentication: WPA
Data Encryption: AES
Checked "The key is automatically provided"
Checked "Use IEEE 802.1x network access control
EAP Type: PEAP
When I try to connect to the network, the device says "Connecting", but eventually quits and just goes back to "Available" Shouldn't it prompt me for my network user ID and password at least?
iPhones and iPod Touches are able to connect to the network (http://its.truman.edu/documentation/index.asp?docId=331&audienceId=), so I figure my superior WM6 device should be able to as well.
For what it's worth, I have tried the registry tweak listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-284534.html with no luck.
I'd really appreciate it if anyone had any other suggestions. Thanks!

My Work Wireless Login Instructions (WiFi)

Hey Guys,
I have a 8125 from Cingular and when, when i try to log in to my work wireless network, after typying in my username, password and domain, it gets connected and as soon as it does message pops out saying: "cannot log on to the wirells network. This network requires a personal certificate to positively identify you."
so pretty much i can't get connected, what should i do to resolve that?
Here are the network card settings for my work access:
Authentication: WPA
Data Encription: TKIP
802.1x
EAP type: PEAP
thanks
I have the exact same problem as you. I haven't been able to figure it out either. I believe my connection is LEAP though, not PEAP.
ive just set up my home network. I got everything working on the setup, main puter, 3 laptops, XDA mini s and XDA2i. I then added wpa psk with tkip. The laptops and the main puter all work fine but both the XDA's with the password entered just sit there either saying connecting or netwok available. They will not connect. Very very frustrating.

For some reason using PEAP on a Windows Mobile device requires you to have a Client Certificate installed on the device as well as the server certificate. Luckily the Wizard has a certificate enrollment utility built in (Settings, Connections, Wireless LAN). Make sure the certificate template 'ClientAuth' is enabled on the CA Server.
Obviously you need to enroll whilst the Wizard is connected to your PC and on the network.....

Need help setting up Wifi Network with PEAP

Hi,
I'm pretty new to EAP and PEAP, but it looks like my campus just upgraded the Wireless to WPA2 using PEAP. I wanted to configure my Cingular 8525 (which I just bought secondhand last week) to take advantage of this newest Wifi network. I am currently not on campus (and thus do not have access to the network), but I wanted to have all of the configuration ready before the next term started. There is some Cingular/AT&T version of WM6 currently loaded.
I start off by creating a new wireless network, just like I did for my home network. I can add the network ID, and I set the security to WPA2 and AES, and check the box "the key is automatically provided".
When I go into the next page ("Configure Network Authentication"), I select PEAP for EAP type. However, I cannot open the "Properties" dialogue.
It gives me the error: "Cannot log on to the wireless network. This network requires a personal certificate to positively identify you".
Here is a PDF link to how we are supposed to configure the new network under Windows XP. I guess once it is configured correctly, we just have to log in with our university User-ID and password to use the network.
Will the registry hack mentioned here help solve this problem?
They have older WEP networks, but apparently they are slower and have a more limited range. Also, it tehy wireless configuration utility states "invalid key" for the newer WEP network, since the key is ASCII and contains non alphanumeric characters.
Also, is there a way to set networks as "preferred", like in windows XP? At my house, many nearby networks are detected, and I sometimes have to manually connect to my own.
Thanks in advance for the help.

New Touch Diamond 2 Wifi Wont Connect

Hi Guys & Gals,
I have a brand new HTC Touch Diamond 2, on O2 network - this is an untouched device, all i have done is booted it up and sync'd it with my PC,
I have tried to connect the device to to wireless networks now with no luck.
1. My home connection - security enabled WPA-PSK password protected, The phone can see the network, i type in my network key - i also checked the password on my router setup. The little spinning circle comes up and try's to connect with no luck. It will then keep trying for as long as the wireless is on
2. Home connection again with no encription - again the same thing
3. Work connection WEP secured, type in the key, same thing again.
Has anyone encountered these sorts of problems before in the past - if so how do i fix it so i can connect wirelessly.
Cheers Guys

Doubt if this is an issue with the phone more likely to be a setup of the wireless.
What router do you use?
Do you have MAC Filtering enabled?
Do you use your router as a DHCP server?
Are there any error messages displayed on the phone?
When it doesnt connect and you tap the notification area (top bar to the right of START) do you have any messages there?

I too had problems with WIFI. My home work network was visible but it would immediately drop or not be able to connect. A few days later it started working flawlessly and I have no idea what changed.
I am sure you have tried a soft reset but just in case...
Tony
I have a NetGear DG(Some Number) v4 ADSL wireless router, which i have set up and works for all of my other devices (ie. Laptops, PS3). With a simple encription key.
I get no messages etc, all it sais is that its 'not connected' and there are no new notificatons
It then persists in trying to connect again and again, when it cant connect for a while, it then comes up with 'new network connections found' in the notificatins area.
I have switched the power mode to best performance with no luck.
I have tried on 2 different networks now. including with all encription off. WEP and WPA-PSK - This is driving me nutz cuz i love the phone, i just want to use it to browse the web without paying out the nose for it.
DHCP server is dynamic from my ISP.
I have contacted HTC now about the issue, but im going to feel so stupid if it turns out to be somthing simple like a setting on the phone somewhere.
But thanks for the reply
Have you checked you arn't using MAC filtering?
Log-in to your router and check under Wireless settings > Wireless Station Access List.
While you are on your wireless setting page check what Encryption your using for WPA-PSK? TKIP? (The wrong encryption chosen will cause you not to be able to connect)
Ok maybe telling you how to suck eggs but on your phone:
Settings > Communication > Wifi
Select Advanced at the bottom right.
Select Change Network
Click Add new...
Type in the name of your network (The SSID also found under wireless settings, Case sensitive)
Select Connects to: The Internet
Leave the other two boxes unticked.
Click next.
Select the correct Authentication - WPA-PSK is different to WPA2-PSK. You will probably be using WPA-PSK.
Select the correct Encryption (Propably TKIP)
And type in your Network Key
Click Next and Finish.
How does this fair and what are the results of checking info on wireless setting page?
Im at work at the moment trying to connect to the WEP connection,
This connection most deffinatly does not have mac filtering on it, just asked the network tech.
Okies.....
Changed the network key to.... Shared key and it works
so i am guessing that it must be somthing to do with my setup at home..
Cheers guys
Cool.
Just match up the Authentication / Encryption / SSID and Network Key from the router to your phone setup and you should be fine.
HTC TD2 Wifi issues
Hi
There's some discussion around the web about this problem of encrypted wifi connectivity: a few things to note
1] the TD2 is _very_ sensitive to the power settings applied to the wifi chipset.
The default power saving settings are only likely to work if all other on-board devices - bluetooth, HSDPA, GPS [and maybe even the screen] are either off or in low power mode: the general recommendation seems to be that one adjusts the wifi device power to be "best performance" if one wants to guarantee connections.
2] several people have reported that both the wifi device [card] and the settings for the particular wifi lan [SSID] to which you are attempting to connect should both be configured for "Work" rather than "The Internet".
3] these secured/encrypted connection failures are not about the WiFi access point or router: I've personally tested with several different makes and models of Router and Access Point [3com, Cisco, Enterasys, Netgear, DLink, Belkin etc] - both on my own and on client networks where I have complete control of security, and have also methodically tested every single combination of TD2 setting for WEP and all variants of WPA. In each case my TD2 has failed to make a valid encrypted connection.
The same device will happily connect to "open" unencrypted access points and routers.
Other models of HTC device, such as the Tytyn II and Touch Pro work fine on the same access points and routers: so we can be pretty sure that this is specifically a TD2 issue.
Conversations with HTC's European Tech Support on this issue have not been helpful to date, but they HAVE pushed the issue further up the line, so there's a chance that we'll see a resolution.

Help, cannot connect Universal to my wifi network

my universal now is running Tomal's v10 rom, all goes well, but when I'm trying to connect to my wifi lan, it's discovered by my device as available but never connects.
my wifi lan is hidden (this isn't a problem for my other devices), I allow the universal mac tol connect to the land and I've asigned an specific ip direction inside my lan (as on my other devices)
I've configured my universal as my hermes: network name, as a hidden network, authentication wpa_psk, data encryption tkip, network key ok, use ieee 802.1x network access control marked, and eap type smart card or certificate
I don't know what else to do
Please, I would appreciate some help, dudes

[Q] CM7 7 802.1x connection problems

Hello:
Hoping for some help here, as I'm out of ideas.
I a running CM7 7.1 stable release on my nook color. Ever since I rooted to CM7 several months ago, I've been unable to maintain a stable connection to my university's 802.1x network. Here's what happens, from the beginning:
NC finds the signal, and I enter in my credentials as per these instructions from the university website:
"Configuration settings for BU (802.1x)
Your device may not require all of the settings included below.
Connect to: BU (802.1x)
EAP method: PEAP
Phase 2 Authentication: None (if available) or MSCHAPV2
CA Certificate: N/A (only option)
Client Certificate: N/A (only option)
Identity: <BU login name>
Anonymous Identity: <BU login name>
Wireless Password: <Kerberos password>
Related: use Automatic IP for your BU network connections
When you use BU wireless (or any BU network connection), your device should be set to use an automatic (dynamic) IP address — never use a static IP. This setting is usually already chosen on your Android device, but should you ever want to check it, here is the sequence of commands to use.
To make sure you are using Auto IP, go to:
Settings,
Wireless & Networks,
Wi-Fi Settings
Click the ‘Settings’ button
Choose Advanced Settings
And enable Auto IP"
Doing so will establish a connection. I'll get a couple of bars, but not full strength wireless. Eventually at some point, as I move from one app requiring wireless to another--let's say I switch from Pulse to the browser, or just change pages on my browser--the connection drops. I go back to the wifi settings and attempt to reconnect to the network. Sometimes it works, but eventually it will start refusing to connect, and I'll have to forget the network, restart wifi and add the network again. But the drops are so frequent that it's not even worth it since they constantly interrupt browsing, etc. So I've been just been tethering off my cell phone.
Stock nook had no problem holding a connection, hp touchpad (webOS) has no problem, nor does the laptop. I've researched here and other forums and haven't found a worthwhile solution. I know other people are having no problems maintaining a connection at their schools. I ran wifi ace and saw that there are multiple channels broadcasting BU's wifi signal--my guess is that the nook is jumping from one channel to another and losing connection along the way, perhaps? I'm no tech guru so it's just a guess.
I'm at my wits end and have exhausted all options I could access before posting here. Any help/advice/assistance to help me hold a stable connection to this 802.1x connection is MUCH APPRECIATED!
