Adjust volume to 1-19%?

I've seen a lot of posts about volume being too quiet, but none about being too loud. I have a Jabra wired in-ear stereo headset, and putting the system volume to it's lowest, non-muted, setting of 20% while turning down the volume of Slide2Play to it's lowest, it is still too loud. It's not too loud to listen to, I just mean I want to be able to make it barely audible if I have to, for instance if a co-worker says something I don't want to be forced to take the headset off.
Is there any way to adjust the volume to somewhere in the 1-19% range rather than 20% being the lowest?
The headset is pretty comfortable, so I'd hate to have to buy an out-of-ear model which I imagine would be less loud at the lowest setting.
Mind you, I don't want to lower the overall volume. I like that it can be loud too, I just need it to be a little more quiet when I'm in the zone trying to bend a piece of code or SQL statement to my will so I don't miss what people say around me.. hehe.

just open ur headset and put a higher value resistor in it.

I'm more looking for a program, cab or registry tweak that allows for greater control of the volume rather than the simple Mute, Quiet, Medium, Loud, Louder, Very Loud settings that our BAs come with.
I found a cab that allows you to adjust the bass and treble which was very handy, but I can't seem to find one that allows more refined volume levels all around.

hv u tried the SRS WOW HD? it has a tab to adjust the input and output gain it decreases the volume level.

Hmm, that SRS WOW HD does help. Although it seems to like to completely mute my device if I unplug my headphones, or plug them in. It kind of seems like I need to reset the device after I plug or unplug my headset.
Kind of annoying, but music does sound better and I can make it more quiet. Thanks for the suggestion.
Anyone know how to keep it from disabling sound on my device when I plug/unplug my headset?

Ringtones and media Volume more LOUD

does anyone know how can get the volume more loud for ringtones and media player? thanks

I want to know this too, as well how to get the vibrate to be more noticable. lol

a device cant play louder then it was ment to do
so the only path would be to use a audio editor on a
computer to inc the vol on the file itself
of cause inc vol have a limit as inc higher then
the bit res would just result in overload and poor degration
of the sound

There are several .csv files in /windows, these dictate the sound model used on the phone.
I've been playing with one, but can't get any boost that sounds okay, you can try changing the reg key from the operator assigned one (if europe then theres a 100db limit imposed I think) to the standard HTC one.
Have a look to HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev\AcousticFile in the registry
mine comes as AudioPara3-XC-Vodafone_V5.csv
The standard HTC is AudioPara3.csv but theres also a AudioPara3-XC.csv in windows.
Try them out if you really want to, but don't blame me if it makes things worse, blows your speakers or causes pixies to come around and eat your brickwork!

I wonder if you're having the same problem that i'm having...
Whilst the phone lying open on a desk seems quite loud, the moment you put it into your pocket you keep missing calls as you don't hear it ring.
I couldn't figure it out until i accidently put my thumb over the bottom left side of the phone where the speaker hole is. if you do this it loses all of it's volume and becomes barely audible.
Now with my old K800 the sound kinda 'leaked' out. and was fine when in my pocket, but with the X1 it's becoming annoying that i keep missing phone calls

I know for playing media if you use core player or tcpmp it will amplify ur volume but it will most likely get more distorted as u increase the amplification

Any idea to get loud the volume?

I've tried them, they mess up the sound, the csv aren't right for the x1, the internal speaker gets dominated by far too much reverb.

I've tried all three csv files that came with my VF X1 and the VF one is the best sounding, so I'll try and tweak the gain levels some more to get a bit more volume out of it.

OK all values in HEX.
Music playback through the speaker is virtually full strength in the VF csv, at FEC9 so there's no way that can go louder.
Audio during call using earpiece and through headset* is at 4000, changing it to 4800 gives very slight boost without distortion, anymore and I found I've turned the volume down during a call.
Same with music playback through headset * and standard system volume.
* I'm presuming headset is wired headset as it makes a difference when you try it!
vodafone csv attached.
If you dont have a VF X1 then you'll need to extract and rename this to what ever you registry points to at HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev\AcousticFile in the registry
PLEASE BACK UP THE ORIGINAL FILE IN WINDOWS FIRST!

The base key is
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Attenuation
There are three values below that 0, 1 and 2. General sound is associated with category 2 and this is probably set to 1 at the moment. I have changed the value associated with category 2 to 3 for the moment. I have heard that it can be changed to as high as 5 but I don't want to damage the speaker.
So in short change the HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Attenuation\2 registry setting from the default 1 to a higher value (between 1 and 5) and this will factor up the volume for most phone functions. Once you've done that power cycle the phone for the change to take effect.

I do not have this key in my device.

Im afraid that made no difference my ringtone when I tried it, went from 1 to all the different values up to 5 with a soft reboot inbetween, but the ringtone remained the same level.
I also tried this one.

which caused the ringtone to go silent.
then there's this which explains it a bit.

1 =1 Default=1 Attenuated During Call – Affected by system volume
2 =2 Default=2 Attenuated During Call – Unaffected by system volume
Add the following to \Attenuation\ (d-word)
3 =3 Create Muted During Call
5 =5 Create NOT Attenuated During Call – Affected by system volume
6 =6 Create NOT Attenuated During Call – Unaffected by system volume
So if those is true all those people claiming it makes their music louder are hearing a placebo effect.

I'm having exactly the same problem.
However when I play the mp3 that I've set as my ringtone in the music player either the system one or the Touchflow 3D one then the music is very loud.
To give you a reference the music is played almost twice as loud at full volume.
So I how do I make the settings that the music player uses work for my ringtone settings.

I've just checked my settings.
I don't have the HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev\AcousticFile in the registry.
Under WaveDev I only have the following options:
Dll, Flags, IClass, Index, Order, Prefix, Priority256
On the phone in the Windows directory I have the Audiopara3.csv and Audiopara3_XC.csv files.
Can you tell me if I need to add the AcousticFile key and if so what the value is for the key. If not then which one of the CSV files do I replace.
Will a soft reset be needed afterwards.

try calling it Audiopara3.csv but make sure you back up the original first.
Soft reset to test it, if it makes no difference try calling it the XC one. If sound ringtone disappears then restore the original!

I think this is more a mechanical (acoustic) issue than a digital one.
I've noticed that while just sitting on the desk the volume is quite loud for both music and ringtones. However the speaker's sound is released only through this tiny gap on the lower left side of the housing, which is easily covered when the phone is put into a bag or pocket.
Once that hole is covered the speaker becomes almost inaudible because the sound waves created by the tiny speaker simply have no way of leaving the phone's housing.
It's a bit like sealing the resonance tubes of a subwoofer with a pair of socks, except that a 600W-Subwoofer will most likely punch it's way through the obstacle, while the sound wave generated by a 0.1W phone speaker just flatlines upon impact.
To me this is a fundamental mechanical design flaw, I don't think it can be corrected by software.
The "right" solution would be to drill a larger hole into the housing next to the speaker, so the sound waves can spread more easily, but that's probably not an option for most people.
Of course one can try to increase the software amplification factor limits, but since these limits are generally set according to hardware limitations you will very likely not get the desired results, just blow out the speaker or overload the driving transistor...

volume too high with 3.5mm headset

Hi all,
as I dont like the sound quality of the htc headset that came with the jade I bought an adapter mini-usb to 3.5mm to fit my in-hear sony headset.
Now I have a problem that at the minimum volume level the person on the other side of the line during a call is actually still quite loud and I can not find any way to set the lowest value lower!
While listening to music now is excellent, as with windows media player I can decrease the volume as much as I want, I can not do the same with phone calls!
I looked into registry tweaks but they didnt do the job.
Anybody had the same issue...?

So. it's about the person at the receiving end hearing it loud, not you. What you can control is the volume of your earpiece, not the other end. You cannot control the speaker unit. So you have to speak more softly or put the mic a little bit further away.

Music volume too loud for hearphones...

hi everybody i love my legend but i'm really disappointed with this issue: even at the minimum, the volume is too loud too listen it with hearphones...
Is there an app to fix it?

Hey, I agree with what you've said above. I have the same issue. Please note that I have no direct solution for you, but the work around is this:
Use a different set of headphones. I have three sets I use.
1) pair of ear buds that came with the legend - these are fine when I turn the volume down low
2) Phillips SHS3201 - these are basic ""over the ear" hook style ear buds. volume is fine if I turn it down between first second "notches".
3) Monster Audio Turbine ear buds - foam sealing passive noise canceling. These are too loud even at the lowest setting. I think they have powerful drivers that simply boost the sound and foam fittings that drive the sound into my ear canal. Though they sound great, I can't really use them because they are too loud on the phone.
Are you using a high quality or "foam sealing" headphone?
That being said, I'm interested if anyone else knows how to adjust this!

There is another way to fix it but i don't like it.. You can change de volume of your mp3's by using mp3 gain (freeware). The volume is better but if you want to connect the legend to a loudspeaker, you realise that the sound has unfortunately a very limited volume...

I am interested in this as well. I have tried the Music Player with EQ platinum (by changing left and right channel to output lower volume) but it kills the CPU. If you view photos while listening to music, you might not hear any music anymore.

Same here. It gets very annoying when the phone rings while I'm listening to things on my earphone - it hurts my ear everytime. (I have ringer set to max volume, which seems to make the ring tone play at max volume through earphone as well. I can barely stand min volume as it is.)
I've already rooted my phone - I guess changing the audiopara files should do the trick. Can anyone tell me how to understand those files?

I am using j-jays intra earphones and the Legend really disappoint me about the sound quality (volume setting).
So I tried to set EQ as down as possible... what there is no EQ on Android's music player? f****!
Finally I have found and used Astro Player beta on the market, wich is not very good-looking but has a complet EQ.
And an other problem about Legend sound quality appears: the sound in noisy at low volume!!!
Ok let's hope a flash will correct the problem. For the moment I am using my Sansa clip+ to hear the music in my bed and my legend with RockPlayer to watch movies in my bed

Volume issue Android
I've been having an issue with the volume being too loud when streaming music via pandora or last.fm
To check to make sure we are all having the same problem, follow these steps and report back.
1. Play media (music) w/ headphones
2. Turn off silent mode
3. Go to Settings/Volume
4. Edit the volume of the ringer (it will play a test sound)
5. Accept changes...
Now, did the volume go down on the media so it's nice and quite? If so, how long does it last? I know this works for me for the rest of my current song, but as soon as another one starts it's back up to crazy loud volume (even when the media volume is set to smallest amount).
I have also downloaded a 3rd party volume control app, but the same thing happens. Please give this a shot and let us know what happened!

Anyway to make the external speaker volume louder through a hack or app? Its way to low making it it useless for car navigation but more importantly I can't hear it ringing when I have it in my pocket.

After we manage to run custom roms from NAND, you can use DSPManager, but in the meantime, you can hack your AudioPara.CSV is you know how to.

they could probably increase it with a firmware update not 100% sure
as for ring volume as a work around just open an audio editing program like audacity and increase the volume of an mp3 that you plan to use as a ringtone then copy it to the device and use that it should be louder cause you have increased the volume of the mp3
its nto a fix for everything but its a work around for the ringer at least

AudioPara.CSV is a windows mobile file. This in an android device. Your instructions are useless.
I am also looking to increase audio volume. Mine is quite low, I cant even use speakerphone properly. You cant hear the person.
I also own the samsung galaxy and the desire hd is about half the volume, if that.

I can hardly hear anyone on this phone and the music/podcast playback is ridiculously low. Did anyone in HTC actually use this phone before manufacturing it?

I dont find it that low.
Was about to set a alarm signal and it was too low to hear.
But instead I choose to use a file from the music folder and
it was much louder.
Seamed strange, but the volume is OK!
