I have an 8 GB micro sdhc card on my wing and it has been working just fine until today. In fact, using a number of the tweaks I found on this site I had it running exactly the way I wanted it.
This afternoon, all of the sudden I couldn't access my SD card. I did a soft reset and then my home screen, Pointui, wouldn't come on - of course because the data is on my card. Tried file explorer and it didn't know the card was in place.
I have hard reset, re-inserted the card, everything I can think of to get it to read.
Unfortunately, I am at the in-laws and don't have the regular sd sized jacket to put it into a card reader to see if the card is just plain shot.
Any other possibilities or suggestions.
Be gentle, I am a newbie to all this stuff. Also, apologies if this has been answered before. I did do several searches.
Thanks in advance.
Where did you get the microsd card from?
sd card
If I recall correctly, I got it from newegg, it is an Adata card - reviews were good.
thanks!

The data from my SD card became partly unreadable, some prgms could not be started and when looking at the root folder of my card I found some items named like ç!é”è((é§éç. Putting the card out and back in didn’t help, only a soft reset did the job. All data was still intact. This thing happened twice untill now. I use a Sandisk 1GB card.
Has anyone had this problem before? I remember reading about the same problem on a forum but couldn't find the posting.
I also experienced the same problem
I had this problem before. When I pulled my Sandisk 1 GB Micro SD and pushed it back in, the System did not recognize my Memory Card. I did it several times and suddenly it came back again.
The trick I used was pushing the Memory upward (against the back of the phone) until the memory was not completely inserted. Roughly about 1/10 of the memory sticks out of the memory slot
I believe this is a major hardware problem with the Memory Slot.
I have had this problem with my 2GB miniSD on my MDA Compact- the first time i had no choice but to re-format the card and start over but second time, re-inserting the card solved the problem.
May be something to do with the card not getting proper contact.
It doesn't work at all anymore!
I've had the same problem with my 1gb SD card since I bought it 2 years ago. It's crap, because copying a movie for instance through the phone (MDA compact) takes forever.
Now I reformatted it, and copied some stuff to it through my card reader. But after putting it back into my phone, the card now is not even seen at all by my phone, and putting it back in my PC doesn't work either... now it's not recognised anywhere anymore...
Anyone, now how to get this fixed?!
Thx!

Try using this utility (or similar) to format your card from a card reader:
http://www.sdcard.org/Downloads.aspx I've used it many times on various cards and seems to do the trick.

Hmmm, thx for hint, but that didn't work either. Since the drive isn't recognised, so does this tool... weird enough the adminstrative tools in windows (drive managament) does see a 1gb drive, but assigning a new drive letter causes an error.... damn... looks like I'll be buying a new SD card.
Does anyone know which brands/types (I now have a 1gb Kinston) have less problems with this, so I can copy files to and from my card though my card reader instead of my phone, without srewing my card up?
Edit: Ha! I formatted my SD card with my digital camera! Leaving just the problem of not being able to copy files to my card through my cardreader...
Hello All,
My Vario is behaving weird. The mini SD card is not being recognised at all. I have tried:
Soft reset- nothing
Making a 20KB backup on the inserted card: works
Checking if anything else is on the card: no, card only lists the small backup file
thousends and thousands of times: inserting and removing the ^%%*&^$&^%#&-card- nothing
Hard reset (I saw no other solution)- to my horror: nothing (sys info states: no card is inserted)
After the hard reset, my options are very limited. I do not have a card reader to get to my backup file....
Anyone here has an idea on how to get my card being recognised again?
Anyone else also very tired of this WM **** crashing all the time or is it just me? (and my usage?
had the same problem on my hermes guys from a different forum gave me a solution is not the best but it works for me cut a little corner of a business card and insert it under your sd card to make a tighter fit and keep it making contact if everything was erased of your sd card you might have to reformat and reload your data this is a pretty common issue i guess i had to get a new sd card because the last one says I have a 4GB file in it but its only a 2 GB sd card crazy ****.
holy mozes!

So I checked with my provider just a minute ago and they told me it is still under warranty!!!
I guess I can close this post now...??? ...good, now where's that dutchie...
My MicroSD was working nicely since new (1 month ago) And it just stopped. Just now. Just like that
Reinserting does not work. Reset does not work. And if I put it in USB mode, the XP disk manager and file explorer jam. And I was not even writing to the card or anything. Putting it in a USB card reader makes XP respond the same. Putting another (128Mb) card in the phone works well, no reset needed.
It looks like the SD card itself is corrupted. Not the FAT or partition table, but the card itself, because otherwise disk manager could repartition it.
If I reconstruct events: I was checking some OpenGL based programs. I ran GL maps. Then I ran BeerV2. (all from the card). BeerV2 was reeealy slow, and I noticed GLMaps was still resident, so I killed it. Then I noticed Diamond Hologram did not want to start, so I figured OpenGL in a bad state and I reset. And then my SD card was gone.
So, when I ran BeerV2, the card must still have been there. When I ran Hologram, it was probably already gone. All application were installed and ran OK in the past.
I destroyed my SD card by killing a running process that probably was not even writing at the time????
Very strange. Can't even believe it myself, must have been coincidence...
So, I am down to 128Mb for the moment..... Better read that thread about the 16Gb cards again.

Have you tried formatting the Card? It sometimes works!
This might have been a flakey card or just bad luck. Do not use Windows format for any SD cards, it's not formatting them according to SD/SDHC specs.
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter.html
Try this one.
Only microSDHC available at the moment is the SanDisk 16GB class 2 for ~€50.

Check out the thread of mine on this. I had similar problem on 16 gig card. I used the Softwinter.com storagetool app to restore. Now seems OK.
But, tomorrow will load up a few more gigabytes on the card. Have restored all applications including 2 gig of route66 and all is well.
...
here is the thread link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3159350&postcount=54
Before you start formatting, try the Windows Error Checking tool.
I had problems with the SD aswell, and this fixed it up.
Guys, all those tips on reformatting are kind, the card itself is broken. Not just lost its formatting, but lost its ability to present itself as a card.
Anyway, already ordered a replacement. 8Gb-ultra only, the 16Gb-ultra were out of stock. I want it fixed today, because I need (well, want) TomTom tomorrow on my trip to Paris.
But at least I can see if the ultra series is really noticeably faster than the normal SANdisk.

I would suggest to try the storage tools app (it's free). I had a similar problem with my micro SD stopping presentation to the laptop and USB sync mode. It would work in the HD but strangely - very long delays in pocket pc explorer.
Before I went out and bought a new card I tried the storagetools app and it worked for me !
Ok, I have SPB backup to backup my device every morning at 2am. I have been doing this for the past few months, with no problems at all. Anyway this morning I woke up, and there was a message on the screen saying "backup unsuccessful" but the HD2 did soft reset, because I seen the splash screen for a few seconds.
Anyway I noticed that the wallpaper was not showing, and didn't think anything of it at first. But when I tried playing some music, my device didn't show the Micro SD card as being installed. So I popped the card out, and back in, and still the HD2 couldn't read it. Also under the "SD card & phone memory" it shows no SD card installed, even though the card it in the HD2.
Got home, and tried putting the Micro SD card in my PC, and even my PC won't read the card. Don't get any error messages, put it just shows nothing?
Bit gutted about this, as I had my last 3 backups on the SD card, along with other documents I need.
Suggestions please?
seems the hd2 is hard on memory cards. I scan and fix mine about 3x a week just to be sure. Since then I haven't had any problems.
My memory card would not allow me to add anything on to it.,.,pics I took wouldn't save and such.,I even tried it in a digital camera with the same results. I couldn't even format it on my PC.,just gave me an unsuccessful reply. One thing I did notice was I couldn't move certain stuff off the card (I think it was in opera) it would show me the file and when I tried to move it off the card it said the item no longer exists.,or something along those lines.,(sorry I'm at work and it's been a while since I have had this happen..,I could always reattempt and post results if you guys would like) I threw in an 8G card and everything has been fine.,but would really like my 16g card back

Gonna keep that in mind. Purchased a new 8GB card, but had to restart my phone from SCRATCH!
Hi
There is a quick link to find out if you cards are real or not? I cannot post this link , but Google detecting usb counterfeit drives.
I know a lot of people buy cheap from ebay etc, and few are real good copys. Always remember to buy sealed branded makes with the class in the circle (2,4 or 6)
Living here in Thailand i know all about the copies!! I bought a few, and yes they were copies not 8gb, but 2gb. so at least with the link above it can keep you right.
Also when you get your new real card, erase it in you mobile, then format it before use.
I back up my SD to my D/Drive, but i unhide and show all files on the main computer to make sure all files are transfering over, including the hidden ones.
Just a few tips lads.
Russ
Hi, My 2 MicroSdHC 8GB Memory card experienced the same. 1st card only work for 1 and a half day and the 2nd card only work for 1 day!! It's showed NO SD CARD on my HTC HD2 Leo. I bought both card on Ebay. They sent me the replacement card. Unfortunately both card are same. They claimed that they are selling 100% Genuine Micro SD Card!! Lucky I am getting my full refund from them after open a dispute!! Now, I am trying to get other 16GB MicroSDHC for mh HD2 Leo. Hopefully the new 16GB card work well with my HD2 Leo.
Anyone else getting this with their S4? I bought my S4 two weeks ago and a Sandisk 64gb card to go with it and started seeing this error about twice a day. I returned it for a Samsung SD and didn't see the error for almost a week until today.
The card actually appears to be fine, all I have to do is remount it after seeing the message and all is good, it's just worrisome cause I store all my photos on there. I'm wondering if it could be the phone itself? I have one day left to exchange it, but it's rooted.
SD Errors are because the card is physically moving when its being written to. This cause bad sectors on the card. Try putting a piece of thin scotch tape and cut to shape of the face of the SD Card. See if it fits more snug....
Are you jogging with the S4 or something? Samsung SD's are class 10 which I think write faster. Maybe that is less likely to cause damage because its written so fast? Not sure....
Try the tape trick and see if it reduces the problem. Else its a physical problem with the slot.
i also have a class 10 64gb, some guy on the forum posted this problem too, he said that by formating the card with a PC and then formating it with the format utility in the phone settings has solved his problem. If not, might be a slot problem like slider mentionned
I had this problem too with my 32 gig class 10. When I put my shock absorbant case on it my problem went away
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337
I had never had an issue with a Sandisk card until my S3 ate a 32GB. I then started readibg how the S3 ate non- Samsung cards. I have been using a Samsung card with no issues
hope you make regular sdcard backups and copy to pc
polish_pat is correct, reformat your card with sdformatter, use Full Erase On and Size Adjustment On
Of course backup first
you shouldn't have to reformat again in phone--
if the card is good this should solve your issue
I had tried 3 different San disk 64GBP class 10 cards and had this problem, the fourth one works so far...doing some searching I found lots of complaints from lots of different device forums about this card. Only fix I found was running chkdsk repair on the card in Windows but this only worked for a few people ( couldn't save my first three cards)
anyway, imo exchange the card or better yet buy a different brand
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
Posting here as doing a search revealed this is the closest to the problem that I'm having. I've had my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 for approximately 1 month now. I purchased a Sandisk 32GB SD Card for the phone. Two days ago I began experiencing issues where when unlocking the phone I would notice the card would unmount then remount (this was in the notification bar). Later that night, the card unmounted and there wasn't any way to get it recognized again. I posted in some other forums and someone said there were some good posts here.
I've contacted Sandisk regarding the card and they refused any involvement stating it's a problem with the phone, not the card. They determined this because once I was able to get the phone to recognize the card and plugged the phone into the PC, the card was able to be read. As long as it's readable, it's fine. After dealing with this I eventually found my MicroSD to SD reader and plugged it into my media reader in my printer. I had quite a few issues from time to time reading the card, however I can't 100% for sure say whether this is the card or the printer.
Anywho, I grabbed copies of what I needed. Formatted the card on the PC, then formatted it on the phone. I began to copy my entries however at one point instead of saying I had 29.* GB Available, it said something like 2.0 EV of 3.0 PE or something like that... these weren't the typical numbers I've seen nor the units of storage space. I apologize that I can't recall that information. I reformatted again and it worked. Left the card in the phone empty over night then tried to copy files later today. This worked.
Now, approximately 48 hours after the problems began, I noticed more issues. SD card stated that it had been damaged and that I should reformat it. While this message stayed in notifications, I confirmed I was still able to read files on the SD card. When googling that error hoping I'd find more resources, the card again unmounted.
One of the resources I found had me do a CHKDSK /F /X on the card. I did this and found no issues. I've replaced it back into the phone and it seems to be working for the moment.
1) Are there any confirmations if this is a bad card, or if perhaps any applications are causing the card to do this? I do have QuickPic and have enabled some of the hidden file features if that helps.
2) Do we know if there are any logs that can be pulled to help verify this?
3) Is it a specific card? (I've heard SanDisk 32gb, but also have heard non-Samsung SD will fail)
Looking to get this resolved ASAP. This card was purchased directly from AT&T when the phone was purchased. I am just looking for some confirmation that if I have to buy another card, I'm not going to gamble if that's going to have the problem as well.
Thanks! If I forgot anything please ask!
Edit: Per the thread, this is a Class 4 card. Also the phone was not moving when it was writing data. I've been couch-ridden all day and unlocked it. I don't believe the phone was in deep-sleep mode as I had received a text not long before I began noticing these messages.
same problem
i have the same problem and guess what ?
the phone is acting like the ***** it stays ok for 3 weeks while that time i download to many stuff to my ext card 32g Elixir Memory after that it crach and give me notification that sd card is damaged and i have to reformat it sucks
by the ****in way this's the fifth time it crash i changed the memory to sony and same and changed to Kodak and the same
so abso****inlotley its the S3 for me soon its going to trash
