hi there
ive synced my hd with wmp and all my songs etc are on there fine in mobile wmp. all the individual songs show up on the songs tab in the tf3d music player as well but my problem is when i go to the artists tab, it shows enough artists to fill the screen but when i finger scroll to go further down, the list just disappears, like theres only the first 10 or so artists and then theres nothing.
has anyone else had this problem?
ive resynced a couple of times, deleted the audiomanager.vol file etc but still the same problem. plus it takes over 2hrs to sync so i dont want to do it that often. have over 2000 tracks.
cheers for any help
just bumping up to get help
i got the same problem... but what doesnt work in my player is the current playlist and songs...
just uploaded a vid 1 minute ago:

Probably the player isn't designed to handle such a big amount of data.
I know this is not a great help, but you should really try CorePlayer. It has a media library, which works quite well .
i have coreplayer and use it for videos but for music (normally also for vids but wmp suxx rele bad [-> codecs]) i always prefered the built-in player.. usually u only listen with shuffle coz i need variety ^.-
i just dont wanna use an extra player coz its an extra app and i wanna avoid that as far as possible.
what i really miss is a hardware button or something like that to chance to the next song.. i used a sony ericsson w850i walkman phone for the last 2 years and i could use the volume buttons (long press) to navigate through the playlist without turning the display on, thats hell useful when its in the pocket, especially when ur riding a bike.

well.. since its not possible to even chose the music dir (seems to must be in <root>/music) the player should be designed to handle any amount of data. i only have 300 songs on there atm. usually i would have, like kauka187, 2000+ =)
i really hope there will be a good firmware update very soon...

Yeah youre prob right about the amount of data.
ive got coreplayer to watch movies and s2p when i want to find a specific song (since theres no search function in built in the tf3d music player WTF!) to play so i guess they will have to do for now until htc hopefully comes up with an update because i really like the look and finger friendliness of their player.

just watched your vid and yeah i have exactly the same prob but like you said, my issue is in the artist tab.
you never know, some bright spark in this community may be able to come up with a fix
This seems to be a bug, I discovered it too with about 3000 songs on the player (which required a softreset for anything to show up in the TF3D menu)
It seems that when you try to scrol down, it snaps back to above the first artist.
When it happend to me I could get back to the other artists if I just scrolled down again.
There's still quite some bugs in the TF3D Player and I wouldn't mind replacing that tab with Coreplayer or WMP itself.

I may have just found a solution to some of the problems with the TF3D music player.
I loaded a bunch of new tracks onto my storage card via the USB cable earlier and edited some of the artist/album details on the tracks I added. The TF3D music player wasn't recognising the new tracks or the changes I'd made to the existing tracks. A soft reset didn't solve the problem. Removing and re-adding TF3D to the Today screen didn't solve the problem. The wrong details were still shown in the player. (As well as this, the Playlists tab wasn't working at all and I couldn't queue up new songs to play.)
Removing and re-inserting the SD card while the list of artists was showing on the HD's screen, however, HAS forced it to re-index the music on the card and now it's all perfect again. Perhaps someone else with a problem could try this?
Sequence:
- copy tracks to the card over the USB lead, or update artist/album details
- unplug USB cable
- go to Artists list in TF3D music library (leave TouchHD turned on)
- remove SD card
- list of artists is erased from screen
- insert SD card
- after a few seconds the list of artists is rebuilt correctly
Report back your results!
did just like you said and the list is built up again, but the list of songs and the now playing list still won't scroll..
yer me 2... just re-inserted the memory card but problem still occurs
the only thing i can think of is an encryption problem in the tags.. i used the musicbrains global database to tag my entire music in order to remove all problems in the tags. but since my tags are ALL tagged the exact same way i got trouble finding the problem ^^
Same problem here!
I had to rebuild my artist-list through updating in WMP. But problems remains to be solved...
I have 860 songs on my card, and it fails to scroll through Albums and All Songs.
Only Artists works.
I believe though, that it is a problem that HTC should solve, and not us. This is not an improvement, tweak or anything else.
This is a real error in the Player!
I tried to describe the problem to the technical support at HTC.
When (if) they respond, I will let you know.
awesome cheers
Update on problem and HTC Tech Support:
HTC has replied to my request, and their recommendation is to clean the card, and then sync it all again through WMP11.
I followed the procedure, but the problem remains (
Only positive thing, however, is that I now have A LOT more album covers!
I'll be back later...
Hey felas
To start with, I'm a fresh virgin in WM and just bought the Leo, flashed the ROM with 1.48.405.2 WWE and it's all a dream except ..
I go to the music player tab, play a song and in 5 to 20 seconds the song just stops playing. It doesnt pause it, just halts and when i hit the "play" button twice it plays from the start. Unusable..
I am using an 8GB SD, tried formatting it twice ( through win7 and WM ), tried uploading the songs via Media Player and by just copying them into the folder. Its all the same. Soft reseted the thing a gazzilion times and it still doesnt like me.
I searched trough the forum but didnt stumble upon anyone with a similar issue.
I give up. help?
Thanks in advance
That's frustrating. What's the format of your music files? And what's the bitrate? How do you have organized your music files. In seperate folders or in one large folder?
Just curious.
BTW, does this problem occurs constantly. I mean, if you leave your phone alone for a couple of hours and try to play the same music file then, does the same problem occur again, or is it just after an update of your music library.
appelflap this problem has been noticed by others. You might want to check out this thread which documents several solutions.
Slow Music player
try to erase the Music maps inthe sd card and create a new one,put music inthis first, more less like 200 tracks and start again the player,if this work put more music
Thank you for the assistance guys The problem were the mp3's I guess.. or the dumb HTC developer that coded the Media Player. Anyhow, I reckon i might like this forum after all.
Happy holidays
The solution ?
Hi. I experienced the same problem with my music player. I noticed that EVERYTIME I connect my LEO with a computer, whether or not I add new music files, the music player would just "stuck", find no music files, display the message "No music found" when I turn it to landscape.
Found the answer on another forum. Actually, "our" music player is unable to read some MP3 ID3 TAG... It seems to be only reliable with ID3 version 2.4 UTF-8 type tags. So what you should do is "simply" convert all mp3 files on your storage card to the appropriate ID3 format. It's not very long since you don't have to recompress the audio files! You can use mp3Tag to apply change to all your mp3s at once. More info in this threat => http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=42474
One definitive solution would be to convert ID3 tags of all your music collection! It would take quite some time... unless somebody find the way to fix this with a magic cab?
This just adds to the very long list of issues of this "wonderful" piece of technology. Thanks who?
Hi. I'm new to this so apologies if this problem has already been answered. I've bought and installed a 16GB sd card in my HD2 and have transferred a fair bit of music to listen to. However media player is playing albums in an incorrect order (seemingly random, not alphabetical). When I transfer an album from the sd card to the 'my music' folder on the device, it plays in the right order! I've tried neptune which plays in the correct order but that won't respond to my bluetooth headset (when I press play, it automatically uses media player). Now when I copied and pasted an album onto my device which was also on the sd card, media player displayed the tracks twice in the correct order 1-15 consecutively (1-15, then 1-15 again). I deleted the device version and the sd card version went back to the seemingly random order. Can anyone solve this irritating problem?
Addition
Could I just add that when I say the problem is with windows media player I am reffering to the music player within HTC sense. Please help!
I have the same issue, very irritating , could anybody help please??
A poor solution
Right, until I can better this I'm gonna cut and paste the album I want to listen to from the sd card onto the device.
No
No, that doesn't work
Have the same problem with the HTC music application and Windows Media Player. Pocket Player and Pocket Tunes don't have this problem.
A solution that works!
Right, it's like this. Got to settings>personalize>home screen tabs and uncheck 'music'. Open 'Windows media player' either by playing a song off your music folder or adding a quick link to it. Then click 'library' and get it to scan for al your files. Now use windows media player as your player not HTC sense and it will all be fine. Thank goodness!
is there the same resolution for the HTC player?
Thanks mate. Now I can see it works fine on the Windows media player. but thats a pain to use with those annoying menus. I like the HTC player as its very much like the iphone player & its easy to use. Has anyone found the fix for the HTC player or is there another good working player thats similar to the iphone player.
Cheers
Shala
Hasn't anyone found a solution to this silly problem yet?
When you transfer music to the device, it apparently removes any existing track order, yet not every album is out of order when I play it on the HD2! It makes no sense at all.
Using WMP is no solution, I'd rather play the music without order or sit for several hours making playlists for every album.
EDIT: Googling the problem, I found a thread about a problem like this for the HTC Touch Pro, where a solution was proposed:
Found a solution for you...
you will need a registry editor for your HTC Touch Pro. I recommend the PHM registry editor (google it).
Locate the following key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored and modify the key Music Gizmo1 to the path you want the music file to be stored. I created a folder on the SD card named MUSIC and updated the path to \Storage Card\Music then rebooted the phone and all is well. Now I can turn off my phone, pop in the SD card and copy all my tunes over and bam.. I have all my songs at my finger tips. I hope this helps

hi,
if this does not work, i can share my application. It scans your music folder and generates playlists in the correct order.
it uses mp3 and wma tags for cd and track sequence. it works well for me but sometimes you need to clean up tags on desktop before copying music.
I have a 16 gb card as well and all my albums are ordered correctly using playlists instead.
I am sure using media monkey to synch gives you an option to push playlists as well and should give desured results.

Damn, it didn't work. Quite disappointing.
Now how about this app that you mentioned?
And I can't find such a function in Media Monkey, any ideas?
Regarding media monkey please have a look at here:
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f41/tutorial-syncing-music-and-playlists-3761/
You will need to connect the device in usb disk mode and then you can synchronise playlists when uploading tracks.
I will upload the application later on today or earlier tomorrow morning. I would however recommend the option above first as the application I have is picky on the tags and it expects track numbers and disc numbers to be set correctly in metadata.

But yeah, the Media Monkey solution does sound smoother, I will try it out.
Thanks.
Hi again,
I have attached the files to this post. I still think, if Media Monkey option works for you thats the way to go. But this little tool helped me with the track order issues I had.
If your files are not in \Storage Card\music folder, you will need to set the location using the botton next to the text box.
Then you need to point the location to save the playlists. For me "\storage card\playlists" worked with every version of manila I used (Polaris, Diamond, HD, HD2)
It only supports mp3 and wma so there isnt much point to add more extensions, however you can remove one to exclude files of that extension.
Once all set up, you need to chose file - > Create playlists and application will scan your files and save the playlists in desired location.
I am using it with 16GB card and on Hd2 its pretty fast.
Here are some limitations:
1 - Extra information is created in the palylist file but still, when you select the playlist in manila player, it does not show fields like artist.
2 - Although some tags are valid, they cause errors in the application. I have some very old track I converted from CD's records mid/late 90s and if I see the issue on the mobile, I just run an application like Musicbrainz Picard to reftesh the tags and it all working again.
3 - If you have multi cd albums and disc numbers are not tagged, the track order may not be correct.
I always use usb mode to copy tracks and for me this tool works good enough to create the playlists the way I want to listen.
Hope it helps someone.
Simple Fix that worked for me
I to had the same problem with CD coming up in the wrong order in the player in HTC sense. When I checked what CD's were in the wrong order I noticed that they were all ones I had purchased off itunes and that the track information wasn't being picked up by my windows desktop. So i converted all my itunes music to MP3s using real player converter and now all of my library is in the correct order.
Hello,
I have the same problem. However, the tags are properly showing in all of these software :
MusicBrainz Picard
Windows Media Player
Windows 7 properties
So the track numbers seem to be correctly assigned. But still, the album tracks don't appear in the correct order for several albums in the HTC audio software.
The playlist utility keeps crashing on me, too.
By the way the HTC support regarding this issue is *terrible*, they keep telling me that the player sorts the music by "last time you played it". Nope. It doesn't. If so, when I play a single track, it would either pop at first place in the album or last place, depending on what they meant in their ballistic explanation (1 sentence). It, obviously, doesn't, and a player acting like that would be the stupidest music player in the world.
Does anyone have a solution ?
Did the "MediaMonkey" solution work,Overlord Yuri ?
Thanks in advance for any anwsers,

I barely tried and didn't have any luck. Since then I've given up..
Oh, okay.
Thank you for your input, anyway.
This thing with the HTC support is starting to get on my nerves, especially how they still try to convince me that the problem will go away if I hard reset the phone (nope, done two times already due to FixOperaFlash ruining my config, and still the music player doesn't work)...
I have figured a work around to the track order problem.
Download mp3tag you can find it on download.com or just google it.
I opend up all my music and looked at the albums that were out of order.
They seemed fine. I just right click on the track and saved the tag. I though why not nothing else seems to work.
I resynced the album and it was in order!
I guess try it out and see if it works.
S**t man , it worked !
HUGE thanks to you !
By the way I just opened the whole library (which was already on the phone), selected all, and clicked on save so it refreshed all tags. And after deleting /Application Data/HTC/Audio Manager/AudioManager_eng.vol so it regenerates the library, it worked like a charm.
I'm still having issues with the music player. I am trying to persevere with the HTC music as I like the interface, and not found another music player yet that I do like the interface on.
Over the past couple of days I've been having issues as it's not been transfering my artwork across, and also tracks appear in random orders in many albums (but not all) on the phone. I have solved the cover art problem by adding the music files using the phone as a hard drive rather than through active sync, but the tracks still appear in a random order.
I have tried using monkey media, and media jukebox to arrange my files and add artwork. The tracks appear in the right order in every music program I use, whether it be monkey media, windows media, or simply opening them up from my music on my laptop. Also, if I open up the files on the phone from my laptop the tracks are in the correct order. Can anyone solve this issue for me please? It's been causing me a headache for the past 48 hours now and I think a blood vessel is about to burst Oh, I've tried adding files from my itnes folder as well, but I get the same problem. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the order of the tracks differs each time I try adding them to the phone
Someone told me to change the tags using mp3tag, but when I run this program it won't let me change the tags, and besides I wouldn't know what to change them to. In the column that says tags, they all just say WMA anyway.
Cheers

I think I saw this yesterday after I reinstalled everything following the new ROM upgrade, it was annoying me but this is what I done...
Slide to the music panel/tab and wait patiently while the screen in black and appear frozen for a while. I think it is actually 'loading' the list of all of the music tracks as 'now playing'.
If, when this has loaded, you tap the library button, then randomly slide to the artist tab to select a track, and play it, it clears the 'now playing' queue to the track you have just selected. You can then go back in and create play lists etc. as you would want to usually.

Hi, Thanks for your reply, but I'm not sure you fully understood what I meant?
If I wait for the media to load and tap the library button it doesn't matter if I go to artist>album or directly to album, the tracks displayed for the album or in the wrong order, and play in the wrong order eg on my Dido album "Here with me" is listed as the 11th track, when actually it should be the 1st. I don't want to, and shouldn't have to create a playlist for each album just so that the tracks play in the right order. Is there a way to get the HTC music player to organise the tracks so they are listed and play in the right order, ie track 1 first, track 2 second etc? It's so frustrating
Oh, sorry. I thought you were describing the thing I had...
Sorry, I don't know how to help you, hopefully someone else will be able to assist you.
Are you sure you don't have Shuffle switched on as that will randomise your songs. It's the icon with two arrows crossing one another to the right of the word Music on the Music tab in Sense.
2 things...
First, what format are your songs ripped in?
Second, you're probably better off letting the music player get the album art for you. Just click the CD icon in the top left of the screen and it will automatically do that for you. It's obviously better to let it handle as much as it can natively.
have you tried looking at the advanced tag editor in windows media player to see what order your tracks are actually in?.as for the album art,I use mp3 tag,its an easy program to use and works everytime. I know how feel as iv come across this myself and it did my head in lol. keep us informed.....

My songs are in WMA format, but I've also tried M4a (ie itunes)
The trouble with letting the program find the artwork is that it can't find a lot of them

If I open windows media on my laptop and change the list options to details, across the top of the window I have the following columns:-

The problem is definitely the ID3 tags.
I can't help you any further than that I'm afraid, as I've been using MP3 format for years now, and every piece of music that I possess is in that format. It's still the most universal format, and therefore works flawlessly on most devices.
I do know that m4a stores the tag values differently to ID3, so they may not be read succesfully. I don't know how wma stores the values, if at all!
I'd recommend getting a piece of software like Sony Sound Forge so you can do a batch conversion and make everything MP3. After that, use something like WinAmp to automatically populate the ID3 tags for you. Once you've done that, the previous suggestion I made about album art will definitely work, so just don't bother doing anything manually for that.
That's all I can suggest. It's a lengthy process, but done right it will definitely solve your current problem.

right click on the track in wmp and you will see an option for advanced tag editor. click that and see if the track number is the same as it shows in the actual track listing of the album. if i were you mate id convert everything to mp3 format, i just find that things like album art and track listings seem to work better, but thats just me.....

totally agree bud. when i got into the digital music scene what seems like years ago now, all my collection was wma and i had nothing but hassle when transfering to other devices, the same as the op is having regarding mixed up tracks and missing art. after a lenghty process of converting everything to mp3 everything worked fine. i suggest its what the op does to solve the problem........if i were the op id convert the album thats giving him issues into mp3 format and transfer it onto his phone to see if it solves it. let us know op how you get on............
You may have already tried this.
But here goes if you go to your album on the pc then right click properties then goto details on each song that will tell you what number the track is & album artist etc that is the way the hd2 lists them from the properties not just the name of the song.
This is probably the first thing you tried but thought i would tell you anyway.

I'll convert everything to MP3. I did start re-ripping my CD's as MP3's at top quality (I only ripped my wma at 128kbs), but I can't for the life of me find them I'm hoping they're on my other laptop when I get home, otherwise I'll have to do it all again I'll post on here when I done this and tried it and let you know the outcome.

Good luck mate. It may take a while, but it's well worth doing.
Incidentally, don't forget the good advice from donwhann - try 1 album first and make sure you're happy with the results before converting everything. If it turns out to be something else then you'd be mighty angry lol

I don't get an option for advanced tag editor if I right click in wmp, or my library. Even if I go into properties that option isn't there?
I'm running the latest version of wmp.

strange.......iv just tried it myself now and its there. are you right clicking on an individual track listed in an album?, stick at it mate, if your like me its a must have to have your music all sorted and looking good lol. keep us informed......
Funny I have always had this same problem. I didn't find the tag editor either BUT I just put the TAG column in my list and if I click by the song IN THAT COLUMN it opens up a text window for adding a tag. Nothing to say that the option is there just opened the text window. Might try that.
If i try to sort by artists or search in music it crashes and says not enough space in music database...I have 4gb of free space on card and more than that on device, any help?
same here, I would love a fix because I actually like the stock player and dont want to change it out.
is moving to the internal sd an option?
i had the same issue and found a thread here or on another site suggesting to move the music to the internal sd card. i did this and it worked for me.
granted, you have to have less than ~13G of music for this workaround.
I did not have this problem with the music stored on the external SD card (2gb, damn near to useless). With the music on the internal storage, I get this problem. I for one think it's completely unbelievable that this $500 device with 16gb of internal storage can't handle 10gb of music stored on it. I had a guy tell me music players weren't that great for android phones, but I didn't imagine it could be this bad. I've been trying all weekend and I have yet to find anything offering even minimal functionality. This really blows my mind.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.
i have a 16gb card full of songs and i don't have this error
Does it matter how the files are organized?
What about when using a different music player?
I have a co-worker who also has the phone and is seeing this problem. I've got a 32gb card coming in the mail and I was hoping to put my music collection on it. If the app can't handle a certain size, that will suck.
Could it also be the music file types/bitrates?
Anyone have any idea why some are seeing this and others not?
The first time I synced I didn't have trouble, and then, after adding a bunch of album art I get it consistently. I haven't bothered to track it down past that, since switching to Mixzing worked around the problem.

QFT, I have no issues aswell
I finally got my sd card and put it in the system. I started transferring my music and it quite near the end with something about the path being to deep. However, with about 16.5 out of 17.5 gb transfered I was able to sort by artist without a hitch.
I don't know why the transfer failed because when I plugged it back in and resumed where it left off every thing transfered fine.
However, I now get the out of memory crash when sorting by artist.
Not sure if it is some particular file (name, length, etc.), or if it is because my damn dog decided to run into the cord and unplug it without safely unmounting, but i'll try and figure it out.
I'm going to delete files, from the set that didn't transfer the first time, one by one until it works or I get back to the state where it was working. If nothing comes of that, I'll delete all and add back in until it stops working.
Maybe it is the number of artists? The files that didn't transfer the first time where from the various artists folder in my collection.
Or maybe warren g and nate dogg regulated my stock music app?

It appears it is related to the number of artists.
I reproduced the problem, then went into my various artists folder and removed albums one by one until the problem went away. I then added the album back in that made the difference between it working and not. I then removed a song at a time until the problem went away again. I then added a song from another artist back in and it once again failed.
So it appears there is a cap on the number of artists.
I'll continue working on this and report back the exact number of artists that causes the issue.
OK, well I thought was the number of artists, but now I'm not so sure.
Maybe it has something to do with how the app handles various artists and/or unknown artists.
I added all my music, then deleted tracks from various artist albums until it worked again. I then put back the various artist album track and it didn't work, as expected.
I thought this was artist based, but when I got it working again--by deleting the track mentioned above--and then added a track for a various artist album by an artist that already existed, the app crashed too.
I then thought it might be song based. So I removed that song and then added a set of songs. However, it unexpectantly worked.
The difference with the set of songs added above is that they weren't part of a various artist album. They were a new artist, but the main album artist wasn't Various with a Contributing artist of the actual artist name. Instead, the Album Artist was the artist name and the contributing artist was left blank (or had the same name).
So, it is that the music app doesn't understand how to handle various artist albums?
Could someone else with this problem remove all the various artist albums from their collection and see if their app works again?
DLarva: Thanks, your post was very helpful.
I read elsewhere that when the player has a hard time with VA tracks, it does not recognize them as separate albums or something. Does it allow you to have some tracks by "Various Artists", but then begin to fail after reaching a certain number?
This is good that you found that was the key, because it is easy to work around!
On my vibrant I can only have 3 songs from a various artists album. It doesn't matter what the other tags are--like contributing artist--as long as the album artist is Various.
I'm guessing others will have a different number. This is because when I was experimenting I once had it working with several more various artist songs, but that was when I was missing a handful of my standard albums.
So it seems that various artist songs cause the issue, but that the number your vibrant will handle varies by the amount of artists or standard songs you have on your system--or some other unknown factor.
Any chance something like this will get fixed?
Anyone out there also dealing with this issue and can tell me how many Various Artist tracks they can get on their phone before it crashes when sorted by artist?
I'd like to try and narrow this down a bit further before calling Samsung tech support.
Found a co-worker with a Vibrant and confirmed that he could have a different number of various artist songs on his.
Also deleted a folder for an artist with 3 ablums and was able to add 3 albums worth of various artist songs.
So, it either is something like the number of folders or perhaps albums, or it is some complicated combination of things.
have this problem and it is ****ing annoying. Have to use TuneWiki instead of the stock app.
Just when I think I have it figured out, it all goes to...
I added a new album, from an existing artist, and now without any various artist albums I'm getting the crash.
At this point I'm left with the conclusion that its the number of songs, or folders, or some combination to complicated to figure out.
Anyone else have any thoughts?

I know workarounds suck for something like this, but there is another one available if you don't want to stop using the TW music player, and you don't want to delete or relocate your music.
Basically, you copy all artist information to Composer in the ID3 tag, and hide the artist tab in the TW music player. All functionality will be there.
I used mp3tag, and it worked really well.
If anyone is interested...
1. Load up your music in mp3tag
2. Select all your music in the app.
3. Push Alt-5.
4. On top right, click on "New".
5. Name it anything you want.
6. Click on "New" again.
7. On the drop-down, click on "Format Value".
8. In Field, select "COMPOSER".
9. Click on the right arrow next to Format String, and select "Artist".
10. Click OK... OK.... Make sure that only your new action is checked, and click OK again.
11. Click on Save.
This doesn't rename your files or change functionality or usability at all.
Now your music is formatted so that when you show the Composer tab on your Vibrant, it will show you all artists.
And it doesn't crash when sorted by composer with the same set of files that crashed when sorted by artist?
