Yes, hopefully it can unlock 850mzh 3G which is missing in X1i (although the chance are very unlikely). I tried it on my X1i. No bad effect (phone call and data still works) but I can't prove 850mzh is working or not since I have ATT 3G 1900mzh coverage in my area. Maybe people in Nevada could tell.
Just tried it to.... nothing different except it changed my Today screen background hehe. Though there is an RILPHONE.DLL in the package...
Hey guys,
I had a look at this CAB, and while I'm no expert, I don't believe that it will give us 850 UTMS band coverage on the X1i. I really REALLY hope that it is possible eventually, as I would love to use 3G, but I think it would require a flashing of the entire radio ROM.
With the HTC Universal I used to flash 3 ROMs, 1 main OS, 1 extended rom, and 1 radio rom. Not sure how other devices work, as I've only played with my HTC Uni. Hopefully an X1a radio-only ROM can be ripped and we can see if that will work.
Here's to some hope for the future!

Have you at all read the forum before flashing?
Lot's of people experiencing the same problem. If you still went ahead and flashed, that's your problem.
Agreed. This is a common problem that there seems to be no fix for except getting your phone replaced. Even people restoring back to original factory conditions (ROM and Radio) still have the lower signal.
You have to be aware of the side effects with any ROM Dish
solving the problem for 100EU
You can solve the problem really easy... By moving somewhere else... Actually I moved from the 2nd floor to the 8th and it helped OK seriously now: I'm using RADIO version 1.64.08.21, Protocol version: 25.74.40.02H, WM 6.1 19209.1.0.2, HARD SPL v2 and 3G is OFF and everything works well and the signal strength is full of course.
try to disable the 3G functionnality (if you don't need it of course). My signal strength is always high for me since I disabled it.

Re-flash original ROM, re-flash original SPL, then, Hard reset.
the signal doesnt change only because of software, maybe the scale changed...

another thing might work as well.
switch your phone settings from AUTO to hard GSM instead of WCDMA this might help a bit as well.
I did the easy route: go back and claimed a new phone because the reception on this phone is bad.

Changing from Auto to GSM on the phone band settings I went from 2 to 4 bars on the signal. Makes me think that the issue is only visual and that there is no real change in signal strength.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2167523&postcount=122
Right now I see 2 people who are flashing the Russian ROM and report that after that the signal strength is normal again? One guy with 2 posts, another with 3 posts... this is currently not making me comfortable to try it myself unless someone with a longer presence on this forum is confirming that it works.
I saw another guy who said he has nothing to lose and wants to try it... I'll wait and see his results... maybe it really works?

The signal quality varies much from 3G to GSM. All depends on the network coverage. In the same spot you can have good GSM signal and bad 3G coverage. Roughly speaking, there are 2 antennas on the same network cell: 1 for GSM and another for 3G. Theoretically, the best coverage is achieved by GSM, since it was the first protocol used, and the network opperator added 3G later.
On the end look for call quality, not number of bars ...

Seems, you can save your 100 Euros and just flash this
Murata Radio Rom which was descovered as fixing the issue

you could try this russian radio rom. it helped many users who had the same problem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388823
Just download the rom, flash it (it is in russian), then flash any rom you want without a radio and it should work.

Yes this really is a great forum, it has helped so many people with their problems with their expensive devices, like it did with yours today.
However I recommend you donate (out of the 100 euros) a bit of the money to the maker of the ROM that helped you, and the majority of the money to XDA Developers (say, 25 euros to the maker of the ROM and 75 euros to XDA Developers).
XDA Developers will only work if people like the maker of the ROM contribute to it, so it seems fair to share the wealth.
Its good to see that you are sticking to your promise, a while back someone asked for help and offered £40 as a reward and when the help was given (it was quite a difficult problem) they never paid up.

TO try and help you out it would be good to work out what you want out of the phone.
As for your questions
1. Wouldn't have a clue
2. Both Miri's and Dutty's ROM's are excellent amongst others out there. They are all available here
3. Since we are using ROM's which have not officially been released (mainly WM6.5), there will always be bugs. Although you can go down the tried and tested WM6.1 route.. but why when WM6.5 is so much better
4. If your carrier supports 3g, then it's a simple option in Comm Manager to active/deactivate it.
5. iphone is crap (imho)
6. Internet is as good as any these days. I got mine from HK and not had any problems with it.
7. They are a good phone and the most trouble you will have is trying the different roms until you find one that you like and then just as you load it and later release will come out and you will feel compelled to try it. Just get a good application that will install your apps and save your files.
Hope this helps.

bugs? 2 things to remember here: (1) theses are cooked ROMs and they will contain a bug or 2. heck, even the stock ROMs have bugs. the cooks cook and test as best they can, but they're not microsoft, htc, etc. we flash and report issues and then if it's a bug, the cooks will correct it. (2) when users (me included) report an issue, we often fail to report the other tweaks, software, etc, we've loaded to our devices. undoubtedly, some of this contributes to the issues we encouter/report with the cooked ROMs. if a cooked ROM freaks on me when i install my apps, that app is removed or i try another ROM.

not difficult to do. they are the same settings that the at&t fuze uses. you have to be in an at&t area that has 850 3G towers. Houston (i hear) doesn't have the 850 coverage that Dallas has; but Dallas is corp HQ for a&t so they have to have good 850 coverage here. add the connections settings, pop your sim in and go!

I prefer the titanium interface in wm6.5 to the touchflo interface in wm6.1
As for speed, I think that I can access everything faster with the new interface than I could with the old, so it's all a matter of opinion.
Regarding stability, I found a cook who does very stable roms and doesn't try to add everything under the sun... it's when you start tinkering under the hood too much that you come into problems.
As to everything else.. it still rings, and I can answer the call... that's the main function of these things.
mjgmjg, did you order the phone after all of this? I'd say you should be fine as long as you have ( as mentioned in an earlier post ) 850mmz 3G in your area now.
I live in Atl area where it was always 1900mhz 3G and mine works fine. I believe AT&T pushed out more 850 3G than they are announcing due to iphone 3GS.
I used the latest HTC Rom from EU but will update to Dutty's soon. Mine found all AT&T 3G settings just fine by istself. You will need to read on this forum about installing a flavor of SPL though.
The stock Telstra ROM is not the best IMO but then again I am used to the XDA and EU ROMS

yep i purchased the t8285 from ebay seller "mobiledestiny". I
tracked the phone & its in cali. Hope to have it it in a few days. Thx to everyone who posted, cortez and rap5 and others . I will used the phone as is for 2 weeks before trying to flash. In that time I will study the XDA blackstone forums. If you have more advice please let me no. I hope skyfire and kinoma play will work on cooked roms.
still haven't been able to get skyfire to work with a cooked ROM. if you install it before flashing yours, then we'll know if it's related to using cooked ROMs. Kinoma on the othe hand works great! i use it streaming music from shoutcast during my daily 4 mile runs (ok, jog/walk combination) and at nite when i listen to music at bed time.

I just got mine this week from Negri Electronics, it arrived in 3 days as I ordered it shipped overnight, but it comes straight from Australia so it takes a wee bit longer, which is clearly stated on their website. Perfect service!
So far, I did not have pleasant experience with HTC (previously, I owned Dopod 818 Pro).
It's the ROM here that redeemed the phone.
Now, I have issues with screen and wifi/bluetooth. The "black screen of death" seems to strike some others too.
I had a previous Samsung set i780 which seemed stable enough even with stock ROM...
I will go for the new Samsung Omnia II if I could turn back time.. (if you can stand the outrageous colour UI)

Hi,
This weekend I upgraded my CDMA Hero to DamageControl. Let me say.. WOW.. it is great....
there are a few minor issues..
-gallery landscape issues
-vvm... but Google Voice is great!
-no Sprint TV
-upgrade Radio???
I am here to ask.. should I upgrade the Radio?
did some research and I am getting mixed feeling on this. Since in the past, only real way to brick your phone is to mess with the radio... and all the others that have major issues with the new Radio.
I am having cold feet about this!!
I can see that I am low in signal strength. and my standby time/ 50% of the time my phone is looking for coverage. My battery is not as good as it was before my new 2.1 ROM.
It looks like I should get the 2.41.04.02.(03) version
NOT the (02) version. RIGHT?
Any feedback??

You want it set to CDMA only, otherwise you get problems

PRL.. is for roaming...
that is what I have read.
I have upgraded the radio. I set mine to CDMA only and I was only able to connect at 1X instead of EV after that. I am not sure what is going on with it.
I installed the radio right after upgrading to fresh 2.0b. My phone has been doing just fine since. I didn't know at the time that it could brick my phone. Glad it didn't. I am happy with the radio.
So I've been having issues where my 3G connection would sometime be at a 3 bar, go down to a 1 bar or a 2 bar and then it would switch to the EDGE network and then sometimes the "G" network.
Is this supposed to happen?
Also if anyone near the Mt. Prospect area has the same issues it'd be nice to know that.
Try experimenting with different radios. Check the radio thread in this section if you're not sure on how to do that.
All right, found the thread, also how do I check what radio I currently have?
Settings tab, About Phone (all the way at the bottom), Software Info.
Also, make sure you read about which radios are compatible with your phone on the radio thread. Flashing an incompatible radio is probably the most common way to brick your phone.
Found it, and should I get a higher radio or a lower radio?
Also any thread for how to install radios and what I should watch out for?
Here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
That thread will guide you through your first ROM/Radio flash. They both use the same method. You don't have to change your ROM to change your Radio. Just read carefully first, and make sure you are using a T-Mo US HD2 compatible radio:
X.XX.50.XX (as long as it's 2.07.XX and up)
Edit: I'm assuming you have a TMOUS HD2
One last thing, will changing my radio void any warranty I have on the phone?
Not sure, but probably. You can always change it back to the one that came with your phone before you take it back.

At my job, I do. At my house I get two bars if I leave the phone flat on a table. I'm experimenting with the newest 2.12 radio. So far the reception seems to be the same, but it usually takes a day or two for the signal to "settle"...if the battery usage is better I might keep it.

Short answer: definitely not.
Longer answer: poke around here and find the other threads dedicated to this topic.
Success! Flashed my 1st ROM and 1st Radio. I know that to the guru's here that's no big deal but it took a lot of nerve to risk my $500 investment to the mercy of my newbieness and potential to brick it.
Now I have a few more in-depth questions for the very helpful staff around here.
I flashed Radio Leo RADIO 2.07.50.27_2 on a suggestion I saw in a thread here that stated it was the best to use on AT&T in the US. I had the stock Radio at first. I am running Artemis v331_0409_WWE which seems very well behaved and has just about all I need less the typical bloatware.
My question(s)...
What is the difference in features/performance between the stock Telstra Radio, the generic OEM radio from HTC, and the radio I have flashed? Should I be seeing any sort of improvements?
I ask this because I see all the radios published for downloading but not much on specifics as to features or benefits.
I am also interested in forcing my HD2 to stay (forced) on 3G and stop dancing back and forth between 3G and EDGE. Is that possible?
I have good signals for both 3G and EDGE but sometimes the EDGE is stronger and it drops down to it and screwing up my connection speed to a crawl.
I know that in the TMO ROM on a TMO HD2 it had the ability to select the bands (at least that's what I recall). Do any of the Radio Gods around here know how to do this or any Cooks know if this is even possible?
Any answers on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Answered my own question
After some creative searching I found an answer to the "forcing 3G" question.
Why HTC buried the band settings in a phone menu beats me. But, I found the answer. I was hoping it would have been in a more logical place like wireless connections, but hey... what do I know.
I'd still appreciate some specifics on my radio questions as I'm not looking forward to flashing every conceivable radio to see which one works if I can at least narrow it down by getting some recommendations for the best one to use on AT&T.
there are no differences between those three radios except for version.when you are trying radios you need to run them au least a day if not two to get any idea for comparison.
Wait, you're getting 3G on ATT with the TMOUS? How are you forcing it to 3G? I thought we were stuck using Edge!

I did not say anything about 3G on TMO, the thread is regarding the T9193 (Telstra), not TMO branded.
Yes, I am getting 3G on AT&T, but its with a T9193. TMO's version has different hardware with a different Radio Chip frequency. Flashing does not change that since it is hard coded in the Radio chip.
Sorry.

If there are no differences then why are there different versions? Doesn't make sense to me. I'm not arguing your point but I am curious as to why a new version Radio is released if there are no differences. That would be like Microsoft releasing Windows 7 version xxxx12345.0 and then releasing version xxxx12345.678.1 and doing so for no apparent reason.
From what I've read, there must be a difference if the performance is different so it would indicate to me that there must be some tweaks on some parameters. I'm trying to find out what those parameters are and what they affect.
Oh well! That'll teach me to read more closely!
