Hey all,
I was just wondering if there is a way to control the music player with the headphone button. I am used to stuff like "pressing button twice = next track" etc.
Is there any chance to employ that kind of control on the Blackstone?
Many Thanks,
s
Either there is no quick solution to this or it is too simple. In either case, please let me know
headphone button? No headphone button that I know of on the Touch HD! Only buttons are volume control and the power button...:-\

There is a button on the cable for the headphones, right where the microphone is. When I hold it down I access voice speed dial. If I click it several times I think it redials the last number used. During an incoming call it can be used to answer, and a long press will hang up.
It would be nice to be able to skip track with double click, and pause with single click.

The way such buttons work is very basic, and the potential solution (this was achieved on another device I used) was substituting whatever program is watching the events related to shorting the contacts. Usually it's the voice dial thingie. So theoretically one could write an application with the same name as the one for voice dial, which would issue relevant commands to the player. It's a pretty straightforward task as soon as you know what are the events, how they are generated, what application is currently watching for them, and last (but not least) know how to code. Unfortunately, I am no programmer.

Hello,
Is it possible to affect permanently the side scroll Jog/Wheel to volume function (up/down) instead of the classical menu scrolling function?
Unfortunately, this button (side wheel) does not appear in the key parameters menu.
Is there any registry value to activate it, or any software to install?
PS. This function exist by default in HTC Excalibur/s610 for example, where one can affect the side Jog to menu navigation/scrolling or just to volume control.
Thanks in advance,
Cyrus.
The big question is, why the hell would you want to change a full wheel control into a useless jog volume control. How often do you change the volume on your phone?
No offence but i just cannot understand why you would want to.
On my phone i map the side button to vibra switch when held down so you can change between ring and vibrate.

The answer can be as easy and simple as the one of El_Mariachi
Let’s say that I realised this need when using TomTom in the car...
As my Trinity sound is always low (1st case or just vibrate) on classical use. When using the Trinity in the car and starting TomTom... The sound is really low and practically not audible (always forgot to increase it before)
And believe me that when driving and trying to switch to today screen and then clicking the sound icon and increasing the sound just by your fingers is a highly not recommended thing to do
Get some software with profile switching ability.

I use CoPilot as an alternative to TomTom and CP maps the jog wheel to volume control whilst it is running. Very useful but more importantly it demonstrates that it can be done.
@ Loboman & Jazza: Thanks for the helpful informations.
As an information: In TomTom ,the side wheel also controls the volume (but only the TomTom volume). The main volume is always the one of the phone. Meening taht if the phone sound is low... Even if the TomTom volume is at the maximum, the resulting volume is low.
hi, now i have googled for about 2 hours, but i dont find anything for ppc.
i have an adapter to use my own headphones. the adapter has the mic and a wheel for the volume and only one button, to answer a call.
but i want to use this button to control the music, for example one press for next track and 2presses for pause or something like that.
and when theres a call, it should be as normal, music fade out and button to answer the call.
anyone of you knows such a app?
here is an example, but only for palm

This could be very nice...
Hey peeps, basically I have a pair of headphones that only has one button on it, to start and stop music. I've noticed on windows media player that on the buttons tab, Play & Pause are linked to ENTER....which is the same button my headset is using to pause tracks.
What I want to be able to do is change the Next Track button to ENTER instead, this way I could change tracks without even getting my phone out. I've already tried to press my headset button whilst trying to re-assign buttons but that doesnt work. Is there anything out there to help me? I have a theory that if the keyboard could stay up when re-assigning buttons I may be able to do it. any ideas guys?
According to the leaflet that came with my phone I should be able to long hold the volume key and then the phone will recognise what music track is being played.
I can't seem to get this to work so can anyone tell me how to do it please if it's possible?
I think its the volume up key, that you hold down and a digital voice reads off what track and album your listening to?

confirmed, works well. the voice sounds half decent for once.
so i tested it with some of my metal music and lol while its really accurate for most things i found one quite funny...
Dimmu Borgir... Dimy Bogy
overall though very impressed.
Thanks, I'll give it another try.
doesn't seem to work on mine either, just increases the volume. when am I supposed to press the button?
while in the music player with the song selection on the screen long press the volume up key. doesnt work from home screen/lock screen.
works on mine with stock firmware jf3, using launcher pro. not that it should make any difference..
Does an inline remote that will work on the Defy exist for music playback ( play/pause, Volume up/Down, Skip forward/Back )?
Ill interested in that too. Thats only of a few things that i miss from my iphone 4

I've searched Motorola's site(s) and there's no mentions of such a thing (headphones with more than one button). You might achieve something similar with PowerAmp and multiple button presses.

PowerAmp is the only way im afraid, by default the defy opens some voice search menu when using in line controls, and power amp is the only music player with those options.
Try this app: Headset Controller.
It configures your clicks on the remote button. So that you can play/skip/go back/increase volume even if you have only one button on your headset remote.

Not true. Winamp does that too, and MortPlayer, which i use for Audio books, has an option to respond to headset button(s). And there are probably other apps, so there is no problem at all.

If i want to sync my itune library to Defy and use earphone with control buttons like my ipod. What sofware actually should I get (to receive my itune lib and can play with earphone's control buttons)
Thank you!!!
4 line in Defy earphone:
L,R,MIC,GND
L,R means left and right side output of earphone.
MIC means mic signal input to defy.
funtion key on earphone usually use MIC signal.
Connect mic signal into an ADC,mic signal has a pull-up resistance,about 2.2K.
Different key use different pulldown resistance with different value.
So that the onchip ADC can measure different voltage.
Then the system knows which key is pressed.
I think the key point of this function is whether Moto Hardware engineer connect the mic signal to ADC.
Sorry for my English
This is what I've done.
Ive bought this one and works fine with any headphones:

3 pounds well spent.
Yeah, basically the same thing that I did, but it looks a little better.
Does the button work?
PS: I wonder if I could find that thing some where else (like amazon.de).
