Hi!
Does anyone know of a better Alarm software for Pocket PC?
I don really like the default one, and I dont think there is any "nice" sounds to use for waking up!
PLease help.
the only thing you can do is add some "nice" alarm sounds to the windows directory on the phone, I called mine alarm 5 etc..
got some nice loud ones
not a great alarm app, but it does help to wake you up..

Can I use any file or does it have to be wav or something? And then just rename it "Alarm"?
any wav file will do
Does your alarm function work properly? I've only used it once (for the first time) when I was in a hotel last week. The alarm didn't sound at the time I had set. When I woke up and pressed the on/off button of my XDA II the alarm went off!
Anyone else encounter this problem? Is there something I've missed when setting the alarm?

Hi
Ive experienced the exact same problem. That's why i dont trust it, and i want other software...
Alarm!
I use SPB Time, works GREAT. Had two alarms set for every weekday and during the trial period it always worked flawlessly.
That and I had sent some improvement suggestions to SPB, and the product manager actually responded!
For the 10 bucks, I say it's worth it.
I use AlarmX by MTUX (it has two alarms with nice sounds).
It works fine. The only thing is that you must activate it before you go to sleep, because if not it doesn't wake up.
Bye,
Uros
I search for an alarm program, that automatically sets the volume to maximum. My problem is when I left to take the volume up in the evening, I can't hear the alarm sound at the morning..

AlarmX by MTUX do this. It is indipendent of your system volume.

You could try PocketZenPhone, which will allow you to create profiles that will switch the volume to your required levels at your required times.
I have mine set to switch the ppc volume to silent, and phone volume to silent at 11:15pm then switch back to loud for ppc and loud for phone at 6:15am.
Works like a charm.

Thank you for the tips!
I will check them...
Another solution to alarm problem
I was also having problems with my alarms, read somewhere that unwanted entries in start up could affect this & slow your machine down too, Hope that helps....
Download this freeware (both of them), install them and run them.
http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/ppc_cn_overview.html
I installed this freeware which seems to have (a) cleared a lot of unwanted dross (sometimes 400+!!!!) & (b) sorted out my alarm problem
Someone recommended this excellent and useful 'pocket Alarm' utility when I was still using my XDA I, Burr Oak have now upgraded it and it better than ever!
Try it free here :- http://www.burroak.on.ca/pta2.html (costs $12-ish if you like it enough to register it)
I am using Alarme version 3.06. Get it at http://www.handango.com/PlatformPro...11201§ionId=0&catalog=30&txtSearch=alarme
I am using it for more than a year, it wakes me up everyday, you can choose any wav file as your alarm.
Its volume control doesn't care about your device volume. Even if you left the device muted before you went to sleep, it will ring loud and clear.
Hey the ****y alarm sucks on our tmobile mda (us) and they dont play mp3s sorry for posting for help altho i have already looked and checked the ftp but i didnt know where to look or what its called. so can anyone direct me to the app? or a registry hack to get mp3 suport on the stock alarm? thanks in advance and i really like the site its very nice. good to see so much support
i use ptravelalarm for that.nice UI and can play mp3 file. i have to change the alarm sound every now and then before my ears get used to the sound and ignore it
or else, you might want to try pocketalarm. both application cost you some penny though
isnt there any freeware for an alarm
http://www.freewareppc.com/clock/wolfclock.shtml
this program is an alarm that can use mp3's
but it is kinda ugly and bulky... i removed it shortly after installing it, but your taste might be different than mine.
if you manage to find something else, post it here cus i too would like an alarm that plays mp3s
Try Mortplayer. While it is a music player, it has a simple alarm on it that can made for daily, weekday, or each day use. It doesn't have multiple alarms for the days of the week, but like I said, it's alarm system is simple.
Curious D, I have mortplayer but does the app need to be open in order for the alarm to go off? Or can I close it?

Here is another that i just found, it is in french, but once you figure it out, it works well

Can close. I have my phone on standby with the volume off and it will go off on time with the volume turned back on. It will not turn on the volume for the phone, just the system volume. You can set the volume level for the alarm too by setting the preamp and volume on start up.
damn im having no luck here. i used to have an MPX220 that i had to hack the registry (add a few lines) for MP3 support for the alarm sound, but i figured my MDA would already come prepared for it

Here's a free reliable mobile alarm app that plays any MP3 you choose. I've had this app on my 8125 for over a year, and it's always been dependable, even if you soft reset before the app takes effect. This can be stored anywhere you like...just read the read me file for instructions.
after I soft-reset my XDA, all dates and reminders don't sound anymore.
I checked the sound settings and files. Everything is set up. Even another reboot didn't work. Probably a ROM failure? Or just a REG. setting ?

ROMS don't fail - they either install and work or they don't - so it won't be that. You got sound for other things? (new sms etc.).
well yes. that's the strange thing about it. All other sounds work just fine.
Maybe a startup routine is defect?
I wonder if there is a REG entry for reminders.
There is a reg entry under HKCU\ControlPanel\Notifications\{1511F90......
It isn't actually {1511F90...... that's just what it starts with.
This entry seems to indicate what file to play (maybe the file is corrupt? Have you tried a different sound for reminders?)
There are a few other registry entries for 'reminder' but I'm not sure they are relevant.
crazy - I swear to god I didn't do ANYTHING.
But suddenly it works again. Everything sounds as it supposed to be.
Now give me an explanation to THAT
not sure if this is your issue but...
i had this issue, I wasnt getting reminder sounds, or the pop up bubble, and i dont remember where i found this solution, but im pretty sure its a common one. I dont know why this works, but it does
start/settings/system/clocks and alarms
switch your time to "visiting, hit ok and exit the clocks and alarms settings.
then open it again, switch back to "home" time, and viola!
I dont know why this works, but it does, and it usually sticks for quite a while, though i do occasionally have to do it again which is still unacceptable in my book, but I have yet to find a better solution than this.
cool. thanx for the tip. I'll check it out when it happens again.
cheers mate
Morning
I have set up the alarm on the sence home screen and set my tone to the alarm to but, When the alarm goes off it is not the tone i set and this will not wake me up. Is there a bug with the alarm has anyone else had this problem???????????????????
I used my alarm for a week straight while traveling - after having changed to a different alarm tone (alarm 5 - the default in my previous devices) - and it worked flawlessly. Not sure if we're doing anything different. Mine is the stock UK ROM from HTC direct.
My alarm has just plain and simple failed to go off 3 days running now. Worked fine Mon & Tues. Nothing since. Also having the unlock code being rejected - even though it's correct - on the same mornin
I too have had this problem but solved it this morning. I had a custom taskbar icon set installed. It messed with the volume screen, and was also causing my alarm to not sound. I uninstalled the icons (tsowen taskbar) and now my alarms are sounding again!
EDIT: I have just reinstalled the taskbar icons, and remembered that I forgot to install SDKCERTS.cab last time. Having installed both that, and the taskbar now, the alarms seem to be sounding alright. Will let you know if anything changes again.
My HD2 is still stock. Rather annoyed with the issues actually. Such an expensive phone should've been better QA'd
It seems to set off my reminders tone and my alarm tone at the same time. But it does play the sound I selected just with the other tone mixed in...
HD2 built in Alarm not working correctly
I have the same problem on my HD2. The Reminder sound starts just before the Alarm sound starts. It was not working that way on the HD : Alarm and Reminder were fully separate. I saw my issue on other forums, but no answer so far.
Of course other alarm software do solve the matter, but, beleive it or not, I am happy with the built in alarm, and I do not like unsolved issues.
I have searched the register many ways, but could not find any tuning. Is it a tuning or a bug ? Any idea from skilled developpers ?
It has worked perfectly for me, 100% of the time since early November, and I use the alarm daily.
I suggest you hard reset and try it without installing any 3rd party apps. If it does not work, detail every step you took to check it as you may have done something wrong.
HD2 Alarm not working correctly
Many thanks johncmolyneux for your wise advice. I have just tried it : real hard reset (+&- buttons then + then reboot). After reboot I cancelled all buttons asking for customisation. As soon as I got control, I defined a clock alarm, and... the Reminder (Alert-Soft) ringged just before the Alarm (Alarm-light).
So this problem really exists. I have had it with the stock ROM. And I still have it with the latest official ROM from HTC site "_HTC HD2_RUU_Leo_HTC_FRA_1.48.406.1_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship.exe".
From what you tell me (working OK on yours), it could be either a bug on all french ROM, or a hardware bug (would be rather strange).
Again, can solve by disabling All reminders, but then of course reminders will not sound.
Any idea from skilled developpers, a register entry, a cfg, an ini file ?

Yeah...same bug too. First the reminder tone plays....then right after that, the custom alarm tone plays together..it's like a remix of the 2 tones.
This bug was also present in the cooked ROMs for HTC HD and it was solved using higher builds, starting with 21875.
Try G-Alarm
Hi,
I had the exact same problem with my HD2 running 1.48 with a minimum of applications installed and it was so annoying. I downloaded the program G-Alarm and it seems to work perfectly. I also applied the small hack, so you can access G-Alarm (or one of the others) directly from the home screen. The hack is described on Pocketnow.com.
Best regards,
Jacob
I have problems with the 'stock' alarm too, I use G-alarm at the moment, but it kills my battery overnight, well compromises I guess?? :S
i have problem with alarm too on stock rom 1.48
reminder sounds before alarm
alarm plays for hardly 5 sec ( 10 sec with alarm snooze sound file )
if not dismissed only repeats itself for 5 seconds after 15 sec of initial play back
well problem is alarm duration is too short the alarm sound should continue to play unless interrupted at least for 1 min .
secondly the alarm should auto repeat itself after minute or two if not interrupted.....
g alarm is not a solution actually
g alarm is nice application indeed but i feel its buggy on my phone and a bit unstable .......

Also same problem with ASIAN WWE stock ROM. The alarm rings one time and then dies. The instant solution is to set long music as alarm.
Bah, the best solution is to install Klaxon or G-Alarm... I really can't understand why a so basic feature can't work as expected !
have all of you reported it to HTC ?
we all should pressurize HTC for solution of Bugs they have sold to us....
its their crap .......
so it should not be headache for us....!!!!!!
to talk about bugs in forums is not a good idea any way
we should bombard their service support with mails & calls and so that all bugs are reported well and official solution comes ...........
official update is always good rather then our individual efforts ....
it would save time for developing roms and new features rather then solving HTC Bugs ......
so every one agree?
i've already reported officially to the HD2 support page. They replied to look into the issue.
My HD2 is running on 1.48 (WWE) ROM. At first I had set the alarm from Mon-Fri at 7 am. It works well.
However, the alarm still goes off EVENTHOUGH I had switch off the alarm function.
Any ideas why this happens ?
I'm on stock o2 rom (1.43) and unfortunately have the same problem. First, reminder sound before alarm, then it rings only twice. ... quite annoying I must say...
Using Enom's or Cy's ROM...(with the Nextheme and Goodies)...the alarm doesn't go off at 530am!
Anybody know if it's the ROM itself or the Theme+Goodies? Or do I need to experiment myself? (I've experimented with setting the alarm to go off an hour after I set it....it worked...but not sure if it worked because I was playing with the phone at the time)
All I get when I wake up is the trackball blinking. I've read somewhere that the alarm turns itself off after an hour...but I wake up around 5 minutes after the alarm was supposed to have gone on.
Good thing I used a backup alarm...otherwise I'd be in deep Sh------------it!
My alarm didn't go off today, but did yesterday. I have the clock as ignore in my task killer.
What I have found is that my ringtones somehow get lost on the SD card and not played. I am not sure what is happening!!!
Not cool though.

If you use any sort of task killing application and do not ignore or exclude the clock, it will kill it, and your alarm along with it.
Problem is that I ignore the Clock.
But when I go to check the Alarm Ringtone, and press play, it doesn't play anything, just a VERY LOW beep. Worked yesterday, nothing today.
Very odd!!

I like to push the audio files to the system and into it's corresponding folder. Maybe you can try that.
For me...I totally forgot about task manager! I never thought of it because the Alarm Icon is always displayed on the notification bar next to the time...whether the clock is killed or not. I guess I'll find out tomorrow morning after I exclude the clock app from being killed.
Kind of makes me wish the Android 'stole' some stuff from the Blackberry.
Can you explain that a bit more? How would I do that?
Will Astro work?
I honestly think it is an SD issue and yes, I never had that problem with my blackberry. They keep the ringtones on the system memory and you never have to worry about it.

I'm guessing that it will only work with a rooted phone. (Mine is) This is what I use. Root Explorer. I take the files from the SD card and move it into the system/media/audio/alarms directory.
Not sure if Astro is able to access the root of the phone. Otherwise I guess you can use
adb push alarmfilename.mp3 /system/media/audio/alarms
Either way you do it...reboot the phone.
Got it, and done, thanks.
Will see if this works.
