Hello,
Since I have my brand new HTC Touch HD, I do have some problems to power it on. I find the power on button not that well placed and very difficult to hit.
Powering off the PDA is rather simple without using that button, for instance like the GSEN power off option.
But I'm wondering whether a similar functionality based onto the G-sensor could also be implemented for powering on/wake-up the device ?
Any idea ?
I tried to write such an App on Diamond... but it was consuming too much battery....
There is such a thing. If I understand it correctly, it's called VueFlow or ViewFlo. Something like that. I got it off XDA, but can't seem to get it to work correctly on my HD. Gyrator2 works similar, but wont wake the phone up. Also, look for Shake2Wake. Hope this helps.
Any progress on this one - did you find the tool?

"for powering on/wake-up the device ? " simply get out the stylus...
Mobile magic has some settings to suit. I have mine to go off face down and come back when vertical. It can also be set for stick out and in.

I'll try it, thank you

Hi folks
I'm back again with some more dumb questions (bear with me - I'm Irish).
On my old Nokia, I could lock the phone by pressing 2 keys and hey presto, phone now safe!
With the HD, things seem a bit complex. Firstly, there's power managenent that controls how long the back light stays on for and how long the phone stays on for before going into stand by.
Q1. Is standby not another form of locking ? If so why not just press th epower button whenever you want to lock the phone and be done with it ?
Then there is the built in locking software that comes with the app.
Q2. Whats the problem with this? (i.e. long pressing the end key and choosing 'Lock the device'; Why do we even need S2U2 ?
Then there's S2U2 itself. The settings page is long and complex.
Q3. Is there a S2U2 manual anywhere ? (to explain some of those ambiguous settings)
Finally, and here is my most important question...
Q4. Can I use my HD like I used to use my Noika - i.e. press a key or 2 to lock the goddam phone an just be done with it ?
As it is, when I want to use my phone, I have to press the power button to take it out of standby, and then I have to slide the S2U2 unlock switch. Its a lot of hassle just to make a phone call.
Is it me? Am I that stupid? What am I doing wrong ? What am I missing ?
Doesn't pressing the "End call" button for 2-3 seconds also lock the phone?
Regards!
I do understand what you're saying. I figured out something really basic just the other day, that is if your phone is locked or in sleep mode just pull out your stylus and it'll unlock and wake up.
Just 1 movement.
Sorry if this is really common knowledge and you already know this but sometimes we overlook the more basic functions on such a complex device!!
Cheers

Power button into standby is a fine lock for me. Nearly impossible to accidently knock the power button to turn it back on.

Yep i do this too.
Press the power button mate, and it will lock the phone
I like how the phone unlocks when you take the stylus out but i didnt like how it locks the phone when you put the stylus back in, so i removed that function using the options in gyrator
I have got TOUCH HD since 1week.
I haven't problem with touch hd like touch diamond.
it is in my pocket but the new phone canvas and the sensitive key prenve nt missing call.
for me no need s2u2 or pocket shield like diamond.

Standby locking
I also "lock" my phone by sending it to standby with the power button. This seems to work realy good for me. The only problem is that the HD wakes up if someone is calling. So i often answer a call by accident. Does anyone know a way to deactivate the automatic wake up?
I tried the registry hack with autolocking but this doesn't work for calls either.

Should the device lock when I put the stylus in? I get the impression from this thread that it should but mine doesn't?
Is there any way to lock the power button on the TD2?
I would like to keep the device suspended, with the screen off, even when the power button is hit.
This is to avoid that the screen of the device gets accidentally switched on when I carry it in the pocket of my jeans. This happens all the time, leading to battery drain.
I have tried TouchLockPro, it locks everything except the power button.
Any way to set this up?
Any application providing this feature?
If you lock it, how do you want to wake up the device?
I wouldn't mind finding a way to do something similar. Maybe not lock the button entirely, but make it so that you have to press the power button for a long time (say 3 secs), or press the power button and the hang up button and the same time.
no offence but if you did this wouldnt it unlock when you pull out the stylus?
and also you can change that go to start => settings => system/personal => keylock (also not sure if keylock will be installed as i dont have one, but you should be able to find it on here)
Then you can change the wake up to be any of the buttons, current setup or none.

No, this wont do what is needed. The Keylock simply stops someone from using the phone. It won't stop the screen from coming on accidental in you pocket.
You can 'lock' the phone from accidental use by pressing and holding the 'hang up' button, but again this has nothing to do with screen activation.
It is true that pulling out the stylus will both switch on and unlock the phone though, so disabling the power button may not be all bad. I still think it would be better to activate the screen via a single long button press, or some such.
Totally agree with swinster's comment and proposal.
- Lock the phone by pressing + holding "hang up" button (already implemented)
- Keep phone locked and screen off until
either stylus is pulled out
or power button and hang-up button are pressed at the same time
But disable screen-on when power button alone is pressed (like it is now).
- Anybody able to implement this proposal?
Meanwhile, how are you guys carring around your Topaz without the battery being emptied within a day (because of the described issue)?
This would be a great solution.
Mine switches on in my pocket all the time, they should have recessed the button, I thought about trying to remove it.

Its a bit of an overkil, but my laptop come with me most places.
Reminds me of the Morecambe and Wise sketch (??) where the battery was the size of a suitcase.
I think I need a car charger - which brings me to another grumble - why didn't they implement a standard mini USB interface?
Standard mini usb fits and charges.

Ooh, Ok. I thought they were different shapes. Will look into this.
[Edit - I have just read that it IS backward compatible with USB - the different shape is becasue the HTC connection supplies audio]
I'm guessing that any old Car Charger with mini USB will work then?

When you set EnableInputAtSuspend = 0, it will not unlock the power button at suspend. . It will then only awake via the Stylus. But I do not know if this setting also works on the Diamond2.
I am having some odd problems with mine if i press the power button to put it into standby. Sometimes when i press it it turns itself straight back on others it will come back on if i shake it (like the G Sensor is somehow linked to bringing it out of standby). Can you guys check this so i can confirm if i have a faulty unit please?
I think I read somewhere that someone had a similar problem - might be the stylus sensor thinking you have remove the stylus.

Thanks, sounds plausible, I'll call the supplier tomorrow.
I am sure that on my D810 I could set the lock on at zero seconds with no pin code. Then the keylock would come on every time I came out of standby but with no change of accidentally starting applications and making calls.
On my D2 the password is compulsory for keylock.
Any solution here? I don't want a pin code.
I power button fix would be even better to also save battery. The accidental turning on is a very annoying feature.

ye man,ive got this prob...the phone randomly unlocks bcoz the stylus sensor...im lookin for some application that turns the sensor off....havent found anythin yet...
This is still, by far, the most anoying "feature" of the TD2 phone. I can't believe that HTC did not have the forethought to think that people might actually put the phone in their pockets.
It should be a simple fix so that when the phone is off or in standby, the power button has to be press for say a second before the phone will come on, rather than just a single tap. They can do this to turn the phone off, so why not on?
It first started with the blue light blinking, even with the phone turned off. The only way to stop it from blinking was to remove the battery for about 10 seconds.
Then, everything I typed staarted to ddoublle letteers raandomlyy.
Now, it's acting like the down button is stuck. I can't do anything on the phone because its always scrolling down, beating out any other input.
I can live with the first two, but the third one has made the phone completely unusable. It's never been around water, never dropped, just randomly doing this crap. Any ideas on how to fix it? Hard reset does not work, new rom does not work, its a hardware issue.
Yes it is probably a hardware issue. Time for a phone swap
I'm actually out of warranty, so the only thing I can do it either switch to a different phone or try fixing this one. Have nothing to lose by opening it up, just wanted to see if anyone else has fixed it by cutting any wires or connections on the inside of the phone.

No phone insurance. Verizon completely screwed me on that phone purchase in more ways than one. By the time I figured that out it was to late.
TO bad I got mine added late. I just called the lady I bought the phone from and she added it.
Not sure about the blue-light.
I was able to fix my repeating-letters using the keyboard fix in this post:
For the constant-down input - it could either be the touchscreen digitizer or the hardware keyboard. YouTube has a series of videos on dismantling the Mogul - it may be worth some "exploratory surgery" to see what might be causing the problem (cookie crumbs, perhaps)...
Hope this helps. Good luck.
Htc mogul hardware button - issue
Dear XDA GURUS,
I am facing this very weird problem on my HTC MOGUL. All my Hardware button have stopped responding / Working. Please help me sort out this issue.
Waiting for your valued reply with solution.
Detail given on below link.
My HTC MOGUL HARDWARE Button Issue
Dear XDA GURUS,
yesterday i tried to do some RnD for this same problem. now the inputs. (Nothing technical)
* Even though my camera hardware button is not working, but, i can still enter the bootloader screen.
* Even though my both soft reset hardware button are not working, but, still i can do the hard reset.
This only means that, my buttons are working fine, but, according to my logic, they have lost there assignment.
After that i started searching web, if i can find a App / setting / hack / register setting, in which i can assign then there original key setting. So i found this on XDA forum as below.
Code:
[B]How to assign a shortcut to EndKey, SendKey, Power Button, PTT Button!![/B]
Hello
Since some of you guys asked about this , well there you go:
if you look inside the keyboard driver with a good disassembler (IDA Pro) you would see that you can create these link files :
Long_PTT.lnk (push to talk button+long press)
Long_End.lnk (the read key+long press)
Long_Send.lnk (the green key+long press)
Short_PTT.lnk (push to talk button)
Long_Power.lnk (Power button +long press)
Short_Power.lnk (Power button)
So basically all you need is to create these link files and put them in to windows folder. You can assign these keys to any shortcut you want .
Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356322
ok now, certain things are clear. now anybody out there can help get this thing sorted out.
Waiting for concrete solution.
So i've been dealing with this for the last week or so and I finally decided to stop searching and scouring the internet and ask for some help from my XDA brethren.
I don't exactly know how or why, but all the hard buttons on my HD2 do not work anymore. Volume up and down, pick up, home, menu, back, and hang up buttons... all not working. They all stopped working at the same time.
I don't really care except for the fact that I cannot wake my phone up after it locks/sleeps. I tried an app called Shake and Wake with no luck. Any sugguestions? or should I just look for a new phone? I really don't want to give up on my HD2... we've been through a lot! Thanks a ton you guys, I really appreciate it.
If I were you I would head on over to the nexus one threads and ask the question.
That phone only has one button, and some folk have had that not work, so they are used to the problem, and I'm sure they will have a solution for you. Worth a try anyway........
Button Savior - free from Market
Jadrobe, I really like button saviour but that still doesn't solve my problem, how do I wake the phone up without any buttons?!!
do your volume buttons work? if so, you could use ButtonRemapper (paid app) to remap one of your volume buttons to work as your power button and do the rest with button savior.
Nope, none of the buttons work!! I'm screwed!
Then yes, you are indeed screwed. Sorry for your misfortune.

Pretty much. If you have one working button then you could use an app called "button remapper"
Have you flashed back to stock/something different yet? Seems a touch coincidental that they all go at once. The bottom 5, or the two volume yea, cos they're on two separate input busses, but for both to fail together... not saying it couldn't happen, just saying it could be something else.
If there not working how do you turn on your phone?
When I slide the battery into the phone it automatically boots up as if I pushed in the power button.. it never used to do that before.
And also right after it powers up it sends me straight to slide to shut down which kind of makes me believe I may have the power button stuck on or something? I'm going to try to flash the stock rom and see what happens. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks!
Dude!! Proximity Screen Off (look in Abdroid Themes and Apps sub-forum) could fix you up in combination with button savior !
It has an option to use the prox sensor to put your phone to sleep and to wake it. The downside is it will drain your battery faster than normal because the prox sensor is in use when the screen's off. But it could keep your phone useable til you can get your buttons fixed (probly just your power button is malfunctioning it sounds like to me)

Thanks a ton Huggs. I'll definitely look into it, as the main reason I love this phone is for Android roms!
So far i've had good luck with this Winmo 6.5 app. I had to revert to the base/stock Tmo rom and it works okay.
Shake and Wake

Well i just got an HD2 (love it btw) im successfully running Hyperdroid no problems what so ever . However i have a bug i need fixed , when the device goes into standby , ALL HARDWARE BUTTONS REWAKE THE SCREEN (excluding volume) is there a way to LOCK ALL HARDWARE BUTTONS EXCEPT for the volume up ? For instance , i reply to a text , press "end key" to suspend device , device is in standby and all buttons (green phone, home, menu, back, red end key) are DISABLED and the only way to wake the device up is by pressing the Volume Up key . I like this idea because there is no designated power button , and when the device is in my pocket , the buttons get pressed and it SERIOUSLY drains the power (i noticed in my logcat this was happening) and since the volume buttons are on the side they are less likely to be pressed . However, once volume button is pressed to wake the device i want the volume buttons to go back to normal . I hope this is possible .
Well, it's not exactly what you wanted.
But you could use Tasker and tell it to turn the screen off again if it's upside-down (in your pocket) and/or if something is in front of the proximity sensor(in your pocket/bag/purse). you could also specify it so that these events won't lock your phone again when it's awake for over 3 seconds or so
I could help you with this if you don't understand how to set it up.
This would partially solve your problem, but there is a small delay between recognizing the events and the action taken so it would stay on for about a second and then shut it off again.
Tell me what you think about it.

I found a similar program . Forget what it was , i mean i guess that could work but its still not gonna keep the screen from coming on when the buttons get pressed . Which , with having front facing buttons , will happen a lot . I'll try the program and check my logcats for device wake. Also , how hard is it to develop in android ? ive written many C# programs for my computer and a couple simple ones ror Windows Mobile . Would i pick up android programing easily ?

Hi there,
As far as I know programming is 10% grammatical and 90% knowledge of the vocabulary
If you know how to program, you should. Pick. It up easily.
You could follow some tutorials. On. YouTube to get yourself started, although. Most of them. Are really basic.
Start by googling for android sdk. And eclipse you'll need those programs to. Start programming
