I am using Second Today with Spb Mobile Shell 2, Spb Phone Suite and other plug-ins. Whenever, I switch to Screen 2, it takes above 2.5 seconds to load all the today screen items. Is this a normal behaviour or should it be spontaneous? I had already applied some tweaks to improve performance. Both Spb Shell and Phone Suite are installed on the main storage.
I'm running this "Second Today" to switch between HTC Home and Pocket Breeze on my Pharos, it takes about 3~4 seconds to display PBreeze, I guess it needs that long to load all of my tasks and appointments.
Questions, questions, questions.....

I know this is slightly off-topic but as you are already doing what I was thinking of doing (i.e. use Second Today with Sbp Mobile Shell 2) I thought I'd ask you a couple of questions. Please accept my apology if what I ask appears dumb, I'm still a noob trying to understand:
1. How easy was it to setup? A few pointers would be useful.
2. How do you find it (the setup)? What issues are you having with it (excluding the one above) or is it the perfect setup?
3. Do find that you spend more time in Sbp Mobile Shell rather than TouchFlo particularly as you can reach the same applications (and more) from within the Shell.
4. What are the benefits of working this way? and finally
5. What would you change if you could?
Please feel free to PM if you 'd rather the thread wasn't hijacked.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Mav,
No question is dumb, but an answer can be! We all benefit from this community!
In response to your queries, please note:
1-The setup was straightforward – no skill or knowledge is required. Since I am using Spb Mobile Shell (MS) in conjunction with Spb Phone Suite (PS), I only installed both applications. No specific order is required, however, the installation of PS requires reboot so this was installed last.
2-The setup is exactly what I need – an additional interface to complement TouchFlo3D (TF3D). I very much enjoy the Spb Main window, though it is not perfect for me. Indeed, I was trying to achieve a configuration that would allow to use the photo dialler of Spb as well as viewing the status of the phone, in term of profile. I also use the built-in profile of PS to change certain conditions automatically and I just love the ability to set a profile for x minutes and let it switch back to the default one automatically.
3-I wouldn’t say I spend more time on MS, as I still depend heavily on TF3D for: Weather, Time, and Settings, since MS+PS do not allow me to quickly switch on Bluetooth or Wireless (hopefully on the next release). On the other hand, I spend more time on MS+PS for launching programs, notification and access to advanced configuration.
4-Main benefits are flexibility, ease of use and integration with other Spb applications.
5-If I could change anything I would like to see a Today tab within TF3D!
I trust this helps…

Thank you Carola that's exactly what I wanted to hear.
However, I have one further clarification; in my first question I was referring to the setup of SecondToday and how that links to Spb Mobile Shell. I was trying to find out how easy that was. It looks complicated but that was at first glance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the late response: both applications are essentially independent and function in this manner: no interference or dependency. Indeed, once you installed Spb Shell 2, you can call it (invoke) by gesture and it will pop up, irrespective that Second Today is installed or not.
I hope this helps...

Hi Carola,
Maybe I've misunderstood because I'm more confused than ever. Apologies for being really dumb but as TouchFlo effectively is a shell I assumed that the only way out of it (without turning it off) was through Second Today.
From your note that clearly isn't the case. So my question to you is how do you invoke Sbp Mobile shell from within TouchFlo and what do you use Second Today for?

Don't worry, as long as I am available, I will reply!
Regarding your question, please note that Spb Shell 2.x will operate above TF3D, after it is installed. So, no need to use Second Today. To invoke MS 2.x you tap from the top down vertically and choose the corresponding window (Now, Menu, Photo Dial) by then dragging from left to right. It is as simple as using MS on its own! Give it a try! If you are unsure about how to do this, please visit www.spbsoftwarehouse.com and browse to MS and there is video demo on how to operate it with gesture.
A follow up to this thread.
Is it still taking some time to switch between Second Today screen & SPB Mobile Shell?

OK I had gotten board with the lack of wifi and decent web browser on the Treo 650 that I decided to make the move to the 8125. I knew about the speed difference and some of the other issues discussed in these forums because I researched the device for months before making the move. Therefore I wont say much about that. Unfortunately I have a few issues that I can't seem to find answers for in this forum and I was hoping other users out there could help.
1. Is there any way of making the navigation pad useful? I cant access anything on the taskbar and it would be great if I could. I installed magic button so I can close apps and switch back to home when I want. Furthermore there is almost no documentation on how to use the nav pad. All application instructions say tap the icon. It's very convenient to have one handed use. for example i have yet to figure out how to get back to the location bar in Pocket IE so I can enter a url without having to tap the screen.
2. Is it common that some applications just freak out when you switch to landscape mode (scroll bars not working and such)?
3. As mentioned I installed magic button but is there an application that will pop up a list of running tasks so I can switch between them easily with the navigation pad.
4. Backup. I may be very wrong on this but I fear that active sync does not actually backup my entire device like palm does. Could someone clear this up and if I'm correct is there a way for active sync to do this. I have more programs on this device than what is on my add/remove prog screen.
5. Notification reminders. I see a feature to have the led for a period of time but it would be nicer if it could be set to play its sound also. Like the pagers of old.
6. Notification of lost service. This phone never tells me I have no cell service. Last thing I want is battery draining searching or worse assuming I have service and miss all calls.
If anyone could provide some info on the above it would be a great help. i have already found many other programs that make up for the lacking features. Below is a list of what I have installed please make any suggestions you think would be helpful.
1. AnthaVPN - easiest and fastest to install
2. TN520 by mochasoft
3. Pocket Putty SSH client
4. Eyes On Call - Callfilter like program with many features still limited but the developer is very quick in implementing suggestions.
5. Info sharp - same developer as above but this provides sms capabilities that are very impressive. He almost has chat style sms with the way this program works.
6. OMAPclocker - for clocking to 220. I actually see the difference.
7. IM+ - Sametime/AOL instant messenger client.
8. Info apps I have Metro, Ereader, Bdicty, VadeMecum
9. TCPMP
10. Registry Wizard
11. Calc98 - the built in calc app is a joke.
12. Xpressmail - dont care what anyone says this app does what it says it will do. Pushes email to your phone.
Thank You
- Richard
sorry, you are in the wrong forum. This here is the Universal, not the Hermes (or whatever the 8125 is)
thx
wow didn't notice I posted on universal forum. well at least I can correct the typos and vgrammer before posting on wizard.

I made an easy way of replacing the Calendar app in Mobile Shell 2 with your own prefered application. Once you create a shortcut you can switch between the default Calendar and any application of your choosing.
I made it as simple as possible to add your prefered Calendar Manager, I use ThumbCal. As downloaded, the script is setup for ThumbCal, but to change it all you have to do is edit the first 2 lines with a text editor.
LIMITATIONS:
NOW SCREEN support is not currently possible, as this would require a major hack of the Shell Program itself, I am not skilled in that and it would most likely violate licensing anyway. I have searched the registry, and disected the "XML" files, and determined "Now Screen" support will not become available with the the current version of Shell. My appologies.
1) Version 0.02 only changes the application on the "Menu Launcher" screen, and breaks extended menu features such as "Add New Appointment" from the Mobile Shell Menu. Once ThumbCal Supports these extended features from external apps (rumored to take place in next release), I will release a dedicated version for these features.
2) Version 0.02 Does not change the default calendar from the Spb Mobile Shell "Now" screen, this is planned for a later version (under R&D).
For use with SPB Mobile Shell 2 only, for Windows Mobile support see this thread.
MortScript is requied, download it here.
I hope you find this useful!
To use:
1. Download and unpack the ZIP file.
2. Edit the first 2 lines in the MSCR file, notepad works fine for this.
set AltCalendarName, "ThumbCal"
set AltCalendarPath, "\Program Files\ThumbApps\ThumbCal\ThumbCal.exe"
3. Copy to your device, and make a shortcut.
4. Click the shortcut and answer the "Yes or No" question.
5. Repeat step 4 to swap between the two calendar managers!
Change Log:
v0.02: Changed dialog error.
thank you very much
Great idea. Can't wait for this to support the NOW Calendar
Any updates on the next version?
Only update at his time is that I have been very busy this week, and have not had time to research this much. So far it looks as though version 0.01 was not effected by the spb upgrade to v2.1, as it still works after upgrading to 2.1.
Nice job!
Hoping the solutions for Now Screen to come early.
Can I try to use other Calendar apps than ThumbCal?
Hello
First of all:
I Like the work NiteStalker has done (using more off his work).
Anyway, SPB has a little CAB files for integration with PIMs (and yes, also the now screen):
More info: http://clubspb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7794
I didn't test all this program's, but they are from the creators off the software so I think it's worth posting it
I tested it succesfully with my Wizard WM 6.1 with Mobile Shell 2.1 & PocketInformant
As copied from the site:
"
Spb Mobile Shell 2.0 offers an API to third party developers to integrate into Spb Menu and Now Screen.
Integration module for Pocket Informant, Agenda Fusion and Agenda One is available as a separate download.
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/downloads/mobileshell/SpbMenuPlugins.cab
Please download it to your Pocket PC and install to get full support in Spb Menu and Now Screen (<- NOT SUPPORTING NOW SCREEN, sorry for the mistake).
Information about integration with Extreme agenda is here:
Not tested anything off this:
http://www.birdsoft.biz/forums/viewtopic.php?t=663
Download is here:
http://www.birdsoft.biz/spbBirdsoftXA.zip
Even themes are aviable for Extreme Agenda:
http://www.birdsoft.biz/xamsthemes.zip
"
So, there are 3 files:
1 - for Pocket Informant, Agenda Fusion and Agenda One (CAB file)
2 - Extreme agenda (ZIP with EXE files to run on PDA)
3 - Extreme agenda themes (don't know exactly look on site i mentioned above)
I've attached them in this post.
I've played with these, and was unsucessful in integrating the now, even with the ones they claim to support. Please keep us posted about your progress, thanks

After running the script and clicking on my appointments from SPB MS Its still goes to the outlook calender. WHich is weird because it says that ThumbCal is now my default calender. Ideas?

Read the first post, and the post just before your post.
aww that sucks. Hmm
[EDIT] Nevermind, found it under the Menu>Organizer>Calendar. See I knew I was dense!
Hey NiteStalker,
I really appreciate your hard work on these Mobile Shell scripts. I have (what seems like) a dumb question.
Since there is no NOW screen support (yes I was able to read that ), what does this script do for Mobile Shell? How would you use it with Mobile Shell?
Sorry if I am a bit dense
Thanks again.
Under organizer>calendar is changed to thumbscal.
should we send a request to SPB ?
because - i'm sure they want informations how to start the app: and which paramter for starting the actual apointment, aso .....#
how can we help whith my knowledge ... ?
any news? Does it work with SPB MS now?
Perhaps interims solution
1. i had installed PocketInformat 2008 Trial-Version.
2. installed the integration module for PI
3. test it in Now Screen
4. copy all files from ../ThumbCal/*.* to ../WebIS/PocketInformant/*.*
5. rename PocketInformant.exe to PocketInformant.exe.alt
6. rename ThumbCal.exe to PocketInformant.exe
hope this helps until another solution is out.
ppcfox
That's an excellent tip and worked fine for me, although I had to rename ThumbCal.exe to PITab.exe to make it work.
I also found that after I'd got ThumbCal into the PocketInformant folder I could then un-install PocketInformant to save some space.
I've found that after installing PocketInformant and the spb cab you can change a couple of keys in the registry to get ThumbCal to run from the Now screen without having to rename the .exe
Set these two keys to the values shown:
\\HKCU\Software\WebIS\PocketInformant\InstallDir = \Program Files\ThumbCal
\\HKLM\Software\Spb Software House\Shared\SpbMenu\Now\Pocket Informant\FileP = ThumbCal.exe
For windows pcs there are many programs that replace the default windows shell like litestep or aston. Is it possible to develop a shell replacement for windows mobile today screen? It will be very nice to have a more flexible and finger friendly today screen in place of, and not above, today screen.
What you think about that?
pointUI seems perfect for you.
I know about pointui and I tested from the first version release, but this and some other similar programs run more as a front end of wm's shell and I speak about a replacement. I know that it doesn't exist right now but I think that will be, if it's possible to happen, a good idea, cause like this the today don't need to load at system startup and reserves device's memory.
@dancer_69
GSmart v1 would definitely work for you. You will have to search for it though as I don't have a link to the thread it came from but it sits in the today screen not on top like PointUI Home does.
@persiansown
Please read and try to comprehend what the previous poster is saying in their post before posting a reply. dancer_69 is looking for a shell replacement app residing IN the today screen not on top like PointUI Home does.
I know about GSmart, I used and this for some time. But again this isn't a shell replacement. This is a today plugin. I speak about a complet replace of today screen. And I know that there's nothing like this. This is more an idea for the developers. If you tried a windows shell replacement as litestep you could understand my point of thinking. Windows have explorer shell, and these kind of programs replace this executable completly. They don't cover it or be a part of it, they executed in place of explorer. So this is more an idea for a different developing directions.
My english are not so good and I cannot explain better. I hope
to understand what I try to say.
Well in that regard, pointUI is the closest, because it masks the windows UI as much as it can among all the competitors. And yes, it's not a complete replacement yet, and I can imagine it will be one day as the development keeps going.
Hey guys sorry to post a new thread but hopefully everyone can appreciate this suggestion.
Since you guys are genius when it comes developing for these devices I'll post here and not Spb.
I was hoping someone can develop a tab for spb where we can have 25% of the top screen scrollable showing the notes that have been created and the rest of the screen available to title and write notes. Sort of like a tab full of post its. I find it aggrevating that i have to locate notes to write notes. I know there may be isolated programs that perform this, but if I'm using a mobile shell that is offering integrated functionality why should we not have this.
Everything should be done from the shell. A Now screen with all the information displayed, a programs screen that is scrollable within the tab, a weather screen, a calender screen, a contacts screen, a notes screen, maybe a tasks screen, and lastly a dial pad screen.
Thanks for listening hopefully we can all band together and make something for everyone, you guys are great, btw shoutout to kareem9nba on the kaiser forums, he's making custom roms per requests, that's cool.
Thats not possible, mobileshell is very limited in adding new functions.
please post that the next time in one of the "few" moble shell threads. thank you.
lol "few"
i just wish we can all band together and create something productive instead of having to explore 10 shells that do the same thing but have bugs.
We all use a now screen, we all use contacts, we all use calender, we all use notes, we all use dialpad, and we all use the program folder. These are touch phones, that when stock are anti finger usable.
Maybe a mod can create a Windows mobile Custom Shell thread, where the only discussion is on creating that specific shell. It's possible, but i feel like everyone is off doing their own thang thang.
Hello dear friends! I am new to this forum.
...Well not entirely new as i was reading up things here already...
1. Is there a way to change the font color of the home screen? (Some backgrounds are too bright)
2. Why is the wallpaper quality (home screen) worse compared to the quality when you open directly?
3. Is it possible to use the small qwerty layout when using GSen, so that you can write with both hands? It would surely speed up writing.
4. Is it possible to update things such as wheather info and the rss hub as soon as the device is connected to the internet via activesync? Both things need the user to start the update...
5. btw: Is there a better rss program avaiable?
6. Is there a way to write sms with outlook?
7. Is there a free dictionary avaiable on the internet (englisch<->german et vice versa)?
8. Is there a calculator which a) looks better b) the ability to plot / solve equations? (i already know "realcalculator")
9. Is there a program that is better than the explorer from microsoft? (I hate that there is no "back button"!)
10. Is there an snes emulator? (I have a snes and 40+ games. I just want to play some mario kart... )
Best regards
p.s. As a little gift because I am new here, I'll provide some of my self-made wallpapers. I hope you like them.
hi and welcome
and thanks
ehm, i can't answer all your questiosn since i only got my Diamond yesterday, but, i'll answer what i can.
4. the weather issue seems to want to connect off a data connection from the phone... so i don't know if theres a fix, but i have not seen one.
5. try spb insight
8. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411561 has a much better looking calculator imo
9. try installing SPB pocket plus to boost your default xplorer's capabilites. otherwise, try resco explorer (pay for it) or Total commander (free)
10. Pocket SNES is the one... Look for the TNT 19209 rom's Vanilla fun package in the Wizard Rom forum, or google for it.
where can i get SNES Roms from? if it isnt allowed to speak of them then im sorry in advance
Thanks
hey dude, here. It'll get you started. Please try not to post stuff in threads that doesn't apply to the topic of the thread. You might end up on the wrong end of Jimmy's Hammer!

Many thanks iceblade911 and Vampire2800!
It would be nice if someone has an idea for number one. :/
I can hardly read the tasks one the home screen...
