is there a registry tweak to remove the roaming icon on my TyTN?
the registry hack from my Wizard does not work on the TyTN...
I am using the TyTN on Cingular in the US (Hawaii), and the roaming icon is constantly on even though I am on my home network. I did not get the roaming icon on my old Wizard, but I get it on the TyTN. Maybe this is because I am using the old AT&T Wireless towers...
any help on how to get rid of the icon? :?:
Hi,
What is the roaming icon, something similar to a radio tower?
I think I newer saw it...
It's your wifi trying to connect...
It disappears when your gprs is searching or online.
When you don't start an internet connection but only activate your wifi then you'll see it appear...
the roaming icon is a solid triangle that appears to the left of the GPRS (or UMTS) icon. page 23 of the manual also describes it as a roaming icon.
i got it once or twice on my qtek 9100 when i actually WAS roaming, but my TyTN displays it ALL the time
ok, I understand.
Did you check your "Phone settings" especially the "Range" tab (I'm not sure of the english word, it's after the newtork tab) ?

I have the same issue with my TyTN in San Diego
Possible fix
I had the roaming indicator on all the time on my wizard. Was able to turn it off with the following reg change:
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL
DisableRoamingIndicator
Change value to 1
Try this might work for tytn..... still waiting for mine to arrive

I tried this reg hack as soon as I got my TyTN, but it does not work. I don't know why they changed it...
I don't think just make the roaming indicator disable is the right solution. The device thinks its in roaming mode the because of that all roaming rule apply like Over the Air Sync schedule and so on.
I contacted HTC support but still didn't got reply[/quote]
Any News On This One...?
I'm having the same problem--I'm on Cingular in Seattle. I've tried the registry hack and it doesn't work, the roaming triangle never goes away. I'm assuming this isn't a problem as I'm clearly in my home area, but it would be nice to know what to do to it to make it go away.
T-Mobile (US) vs. Cingular SIM
So I popped a friends T-Mobile (US) SIM into my TyTN and I don't get the roaming triangle like I do with my Cingular 3G SIM. So I'm wondering if the issue with the roaming triangle is with the SIM, or something that can actually be changed in the phone (like the previous reg hack that worked on the Wizard).
I've looked everywhere in the registry, tried changing some of the settings in the "OperatorNames" key and also the stuff in \HKLM\System\State\Phone but no luck yet.
Does anyone know if this behavior is phone/reg based or SIM based?
I wonder if it has to do with Cingular's (in the process of converging) blue and orange towers.
Well i'm in Toronto, and everyone seems to be in different places that this is happening to, so i don't believe its a "carrier" or provider problem. thats my theory... also.. i tried the hack above the LM/drives/Built itn/RIL but cannot see any options in the reg that even suggest hint at disabling the roaming icon.
This sux. I can't believe HTC customer support is as bad as it is.
How can we get to the bottom of this?
I have upgraded to the most recent HTC TyTN ROM (1.35) and the roaming icon is now gone. The new radio ROM (1.18) appears to have fixed this issue.
It is difficult to understand, why it is a “problematic issue". Basically, Roaming triangle appears to facilitate you, that you’re not roaming in your Home PLMN (Own Operator NW). It means you’re visitor in an other GSM Network (VPLMN) and you are registered as Roamer . This is nice to know with Roaming triangle if Roaming charges applied OR NOT.
I get the roaming icon everytime I install a ROM that is a non-Cingular ROM. My phone is an JasJam, when I first turned it on I had a roaming symbol, calls to imate and Cingular were unsuccessful. Installed a newer Cingular ROM (1.34) and the triangle went away, then I installed an HTC ROM (1.35) and symbol was back, then I installed Cingular's 2.06 and it was gone, radio v1.33.
Now I've installed WM6 Vanilla which keeps whatever radio you were using before and the symbol is back.
I'm convinced it has something to do with the OS talking with the SIM so there has to be a regedit somewhere to correct this. I really hate having this thing warn everytime I initiate a OTA Sync. Don't let this issue die its still out there.

Not a problem if it is a true indication. But it is misleading when you are registered on your own network.
Seems I got same problem in Hong Kong.....previouly me using Vodafone 2G service....now changed to Hong Kong 3 2G/2.5G(i-mode) service...I can connect to 3(2G) network but a roaming icon keeps showing all the time.....I am bit nervous the roaming charge now T_T
And I am using Dopod818Pro in Hong Kong
was there ever a resolution for this?
Remove roaming triangle... Solved.
I had the same issue with the roaming triangle... I'm not sure where I found this but it works perfect for me. I use Task Manager (http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm) to import it to my registry, then I just restart the phone and the roaming indicator is gone.
Good luck to you and vote Ron Paul!

Does anyone have a quick shortcut to force a phone to Roaming Only instead of having to dig through the menus.
I get crappy signal at home but Alltel has a tower across the highway from our neighborhood. I don't talk on the phone much at home but the rare times I do, it would be awesome if I didn't have to run outside.
I'm looking for something where I can just mash a shortcut on my screen using one of the various launcher apps out there that will toggle the phone from roaming only to automatic and back and forth.
Thanks.
Roaming only
Sorry, but I have to laugh. Most of the roaming problems here are phones that show roaming when they are not roaming, we want to get rid of the problem that you want!!!!! Maybe we should swap phones. When I put the new ROM onto my Hermes I got the full time roaming a couple days thereafter. you can alwasy try that.
There is one thing you can do to improve your signal, but it means that you will have to sacrifice your data connection if you have one.
This means that you will do a slightly modification to your phone where instead of looking for a EVDO/Rev. A connection it is only pointing to the CDMA towers such as for calls / text.
To do this you will have to enter your phones advanced menu.
I have Verizon and dial ##778 and a menu pops up on the dialer. I am not sure what number you dial for your respective carriers, but you can try searching and asking fellow experts.
You simply just make a quick switch that can be reverted back if needed.
I've done this and get more bars then before.

Good evening all,
Hopefully someone can answer my question.
Sunday I took a road trip. I noticed that my phone had no service. In the past when I left the t-mobile area my g1 would automatically connect to whatever network was available and the roam indicator would show up.
I tried to manually connect to at&t through the network operators menu. My phone said "Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network.".
I have a rooted g1 running the official t-mobile 1.6 rom. Is this a problem with my rom or my phone or the network. I've tried searching and I haven't found much of a solution yet.
I am in the usa. A lot of the google search results I got were from Europe.
might not have been a ROM issue; just a bug...
Did you reboot or force radio off then back on?
I have the same problem and yet no luck to resolve this.

I did reboot and enable/disable airplane mode.
Today I switched to the Cyanogen Rom. I'll see if that fixes the problem. I tried to manually switch to at&t, but it still says that the sim card does not allow that. I am in the t-mobile coverage area; t-mobile probably does not allow the use of a different network when their network is available. I'd like to test it out to see if roaming works now, but I'm not taking a drive out to the countryside just to see how my phone works.
I guess this one might be hard for me to test because I am rarely out the the t-mobile coverage area.
My HD2 seems to act funny when I am abroad/roaming networks. At home on my own network (orange France) its stable and always has very good reception. When I am abroad for work mostly in Germany its constantly jumping networks...You check the phone/quality of network and reception, one minute its on T-mobile with a good reception, then when you pick it up it starts searching for a new network wich takes a long time. One minute its on O2.de then E plus or T-mobile. This all takes place when network selection is on auto or manual! When on manual network selection it still changes networks without any action from my side, this is not normal!! Also its draining my battery alot faster...This way I cannot use my phone when half of the time its searching for a network. I dont have edge or 3G subscribtion, just using the gsm network and wifi network while I am in the hotel...
I am running Artemis 7.0 wwe and have radio version 2.09.51.03_2. Anybody any idea/tips? I would like to avoid doing a hard reset/new flash because the phone is stable and completely setup the way I like it...
i got my dvp unlocked but there is a no entry sign on the signal bars i cant use the phone?
Umm...move around a bit.

yeah reception isn't so great as dvp users have found. The antenna seems to be at the bottom left on the side if you are looking at the front of the phone (i.e. near back button). So make sure you don't block that area or even use the otterbox case if signal is weak there.
FYI if your phone is locked it would let you know when you turned it on with an unsupported sim in it... Hmm make sure your network at least supports GSM or the right 3g frequency if network is 3g capable only.
Network unavailble the cellular network you selected bisunavaible . would you like to select anoter network?
I am using wind it dose support the 3g frequency it can find wind away but not wind home

Did you wait a bit after bootup? You gotta let it sit for a while to get all the networking stuff figured out.
Since Wind is 3G only, maybe make sure you have the right APN settings under the "Connection Settings" app? Otherwise, I hope you don't have the wrong DVP version... you need the T-Mobile/AWS version to have it running on Wind (not the ATT). If you can only roam (GSM only), it might be that it can't see the 3G frequencies.
wind home
I was able to find wind home but the phone is still not working
