Tasks on Home page - Touch HD General

Is this possible?
Settings -> Today -> Items and tick 'tasks', but when I come out, it shows nothing. I go back into settings and its unticked again.
I use the Tasks as my to do list, not to forget things, I miss not having it on my front page

unfortunately the tf3d disables the standard winmo home, so unless you don't remove the tf3d you can't use them
but probably there's some 3rd party program that can make them usable again.

You could use second today....Pretty sure it has support for tasks. Its free, just do a search on XDA_Devs

Home screen messed up after uninstalling CHT 1.7

I guess this could go in the Apps and Themes forum but I thought I'd stick it here in case the issue is broader than me thinking it might be related to CHT removal.
Decided to uninstall CHT 1.7 (and Advanced Home Tab 2.2.4) after getting fed up with lag/freezing/etc, and now I have three problems on the home screen:
1. The top-left part of the calendar (day, date) widget seems to be the same size as the CHT version, i.e. smaller than the default one, and therefore sits 20-40 pixels away from the rest of the calendar. EDIT: it won't even let me launch the calendar or alarm by pressing on it (or any area of the widget)
2. I can no longer scroll the apps to reveal the additional 6 below the 3 that sit at the bottom of the screen. EDIT: this has just started working.
3. The 'Menu' button no longer works on this screen either - it flashes upon touch but nothing pops up - so I can't access any quick links etc.
Can't find anything on the forum search or elsewhere.
Also, CHT may not have uninstalled properly because it won't disappear from the list of "removable" apps. Does this mean it's left some legacy code that is forcing the calendar to mis-display, etc?
Thanks
SC
Decided to reinstall CHT 1.7 along with the editor and see what happens. Running only one screen of apps (4x4) to see if this makes it more stable.
make sure you turn off sense before uninstalling....

Ok - so do I go to settings > menu > all settings > today > items > check Windows Default before uninstalling ... and then uncheck it after reinstalling?
Thanks
yup that's the one.....
check default, uncheck sense, soft reset, uninstall, reset, start up sense again.
Not guaranteed to work but its worth a try....
hope that helps.....

I'll put this out there just in case anyone else gets into a pickle like I did earlier today!
If you decide to install Cookies Home Tab, then install Advanced Home Tab, only to discover that the version of CHT is a lot newer than the version of AHT you thought you had....
Sense really gets messed up, so much so, all you get is white background and no response, to *anything*.
I managed to get my beloved HD2 back from the brink of certain hard reset by:
Attempting connection to my laptop (Win7) using ActiveSync (thankfully it was set to that as default!) and attempted the uninstall of AHT through Mobile Device Center.
This appeared to go ok, except MDC did close unexpectedly after the uninstall.
I brought it back up, and it was still installed. Ok, plan B.
Plan B:
Just before the SIM card PIN entry screen (I'm guessing this screen pauses the boot up just enough) you can open the start menu, this allows access to your programs.
I used Total Commander to launch CHT installer (I always keep cabs on my SD card) which attempted uninstall and failed on a few files (as Sense was still switched on, switching it off wasn't an option due to not being able to get this far until now).
I then managed to get into the Windows Settings via the Start menu, and disabled Sense before rebooting. My god, it was slow booting that time!
From here, I reinstalled CHT and CHTE, uninstalled AHT and all is well!

[HOWTO] Re-order your apps alphabetically in grid view.

There are a few threads all over the place about how you can get your mess of applications into alphabetical order using grid-view. I don't know of a way to sort it automatically, but if you want to you can do this:
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> TwLauncher -> Clear Data
This will completely reset your home screen to defaults (assuming stock launcher) - however you will find all your apps (system and user) neatly ordered in alphabetical order.
For most people I think recreating the home screen will be much easier than sorting every app alphabetically.
I've only tested this on the International version, so I'm not sure if it will work on other variants.
would be a bit of a pain to do this everytime you installed any application.
Shame there isnt a default setting as my partner ( for some crazy reason) likes the sideways scrolling rather then up and down.

Yeh I prefer grid view too and doing this after every app install would be a nightmare. I typically use it once after a fresh install - mass install every app I want then reset TwLauncher. I arrange manually after that.

[Q] Phone & Contacts Icons Disappeared HELP ?

OK so i didn't much like the stock Dialer and contacts to slow and look horrible so i set about trying to find a suitable alternative, now upon finding a couple of good ones Dialer One & TouchPal Go i followed various guides on how to set up installed dialers as your default dialer, applications manager-all then clear default on stock phone app launch new dialer and it should come up with an option to choose which dialer to use, ive come to the conclusion that most of the dialer apps ive tried this option never comes up thus not allowing you to use as a stock dialer, now i read that if you disable the contacts under application manager - all then go into your dialer you want to use it will come up with the new default option upon doing this i noticed that the Stock contacts & phone icon have disappeared from the homescreen and app-drawer, i can only find the phone listed in application manager - all but not contacts , what do i do to get them back ? thx
the same thing u did to disable them those 2 apps are related

are they backed up if yes try restoring them
Not sure on your question per se but once you do get em back ignore those guides because you don't have to do anything to make it work. Just lose the shortcuts on the desktop and replace them with the ones you want and press that icon instead. When an app wants to hook a dialer and you have more than one installed a window will pop up asking which one you want to use, select dialer one and always and you are good to go. This will happen each time a new app that hasn't tried to use the dialer before wants to do so but it wont be long before you have them all covered and you never see them again. The good thing about this is you simply need to clear defaults to go back should you choose and also if you want to use them on a case by case basis you can. In other words dont select always and the option will come up every time that app tries to hook the dialer. The same holds true with the contacts and replacement contact apps.

'When an app wants to hook a dialer and you have more than one installed a window will pop up asking which one you want to use, select dialer one and always and you are good to go' EXACTLY and after many wasted hours i concluded that many of the dialer/contacts apps dont allow for such an option to appear the new app just launches without said popup box. However i still dont know how to get back the stock phone/contacts icon.

Samsung Galaxy S7 tips and tricks

Let's make a comprehensive list of all the cool little tricks, hidden menus, shortcuts, and tips that we've found.
Here's a starter list that I found to get us going
http://phandroid.com/galaxy-s7-tips/
List of tips & tricks
Optimize battery usage for individual apps
Settings - Battery - More - Optimize battery usage
All of my apps except for my stock Verizon ones and some system apps were already optimized
Disable scanning to improve battery
Settings - Location - Improve accuracy
Disable Bluetooth and WiFi scanning to keep your phone from scanning through these services even when you have the service turned off.
Change permission settings for individual apps
Settings - Privacy and emergency - App permissions
I went through and disabled some different apps that were requesting my location to help save battery. You also get a warning if the app you're changing is designed for an older version of Android and might cause issues.
Disable Quick connect in notification drop down
Access notification drop down by swiping down - tap the down arrow - Edit - turn off
Spelling correction for other keyboards
Samsung now has a built in spelling correction feature with their stock keyboard. But if you use another keyboard you lose that feature. If you download the Google keyboard it comes with spelling correction that works on any keyboard. I even disable it as an input method. The only bug is that enabling the Samsung keyboard will disable Google spelling correction, and you'll have to go toggle it on once you switch to another keyboard.
Download Google keyboard > Settings - Language and input - Spelling correction - Google keyboard
Lock screen shortcuts
Settings - Lock screen and security - Info and app shortcuts - App shortcuts
You can change the app shortcuts shown on the lock screen or choose to disable them altogether.
Pin Windows
Settings - Lock screen and security - Other security settings - Pin windows - On
Allows you to lock a current window on your device so you can let someone borrow your device for a moment. If you turn on "ask for pattern" it will prevent access to other apps without unlocking your phone.
Thanks 'insang-droid'
Turn off usage data access
Settings - Lock screen and security - Other security settings - Usage data access - More - Show system apps
Turning this off prevents apps from monitoring which other apps you use, how often you use them, your service provider, and other usage data. I don't see any reason my bloatware Amazon app needs access to which other apps I use.
Home screen options
Launch home screen settings by pinching your screen or by long pressing on an open area. From here you can change wallpapers, widgets, themes, and your screen grid (thanks 'insang-droid'). You can also add new blank pages, remove an existing page, and set your home screen. By going left, you can disable Flipboard Briefing if it was turned on.
Screen grid options are 4x4, 4x5, and 5x5
Fingerprint tips
You can add up to 4 fingerprint profiles in your S7. I recommend holding the phone as your normally do when you register your thumb. Rotate and move your thumb around, hold the phone with one hand and do it. Register your prints as multiple slots to make it more likely to accept your print. Also, tapping your finger instead of holding seems to unlock your phone faster.
Better screenshots
Settings - Advanced features - Smart capture
With smart capture on, you can immediately crop your screenshot, share it, or scroll down a page and take a long screenshot. This feature is really awesome if you are trying to save a long webpage or something that won't fit on one screen.
Settings - Advanced features - Palm swipe to capture
Instead of holding the Home and Power buttons simultaneously, you can swipe your hand across the screen to take a screenshot.
Remove Samsung Bookmarks in Chrome
Settings - Applications - Application manager - More - Show system apps - com.android.providers.partnerbookmarks - Disable
Gets rid of the Samsung Bookmarks in Chrome that show up as their own tab and also under Mobile Bookmarks.
For the Disable scanning to improve battery
You may want to update the path to get to it
You have to go settings > Applications > Google (scroll as it's the last one on the list) > Location > Improve Accuracy

Yep, that takes you there too
PIN window
Settings> search for PIN
Let's you pin the app to screen so back button and recent apps button don't affect the screen.
Home grid
Hold empty home screen and get in to grid settings

How-to: enable adblockers on Verizon w/Samsung Browser

If you've been able to download the Samsung Internet browser from the Google Play Store, you still may not have the ability to activate any downloaded ad-blocking plug-ins, due to not having the menu item needed to enable and manage them in the Samsung browser's settings menu.
Note that it could be that you *do* have the appropriate menu item available, as some folks have reported that they have it.
I was not that lucky, and had to resort to a work-around to make it appear.
If you also need to do that, here is one way to do it:
In the browser's address bar, enter the following pseudo-url (do not include the quotation marks): "about:contentblock"
Then, visit the advanced settings menu ("More->Settings->Advanced") where you can now see a new entry ("Block content"), *if you have already installed one of the available ad-block plug-ins from the Play Store*.
Two decent ones are "Adblock Plus (Samsung Browser)" and "Crystal Adblock for Samsung" - they must be downloaded and installed separately from the browser itself, and must be installed before the browser will display the enable settings, even if you've already issued the "about:contentblock" pseudo-url.
Advancing to the "Block content" settings will show a switch to allow adblocking plug-ins to function, and will show a list of all installed adblock plug-ins, and allow you to select one of them to be active.
If, like me, you find you must use this work-around to get the "Block content" options to show up, then you will have to do this each time the Samsung Browser is restarted (easier to just leave it running, but, you know, stuff happens).
Therefore, it might be handy to set up a bookmark to perform the "about:contentblock" procedure. Just go into the bookmarks menu, tap the Add button, and type a name for your bookmark (I used "Enable Block content menu"), and enter " about:contentblock" as the bookmark's URL.
After clicking on this bookmark whenever the browser is restarted, you will, unfortunately, also still have to go into the "Block content" settings and turn on ad-blocking and reselect an installed plugin.
Hope some of you find this helpful.
