I now have my HD.
But whenever I click on one of the bottom menus (you know, the one that says 'menu' or something in the bottom left) I get a massive menu.
Two questions: Would SPB Shell sort this out? Or is there another way to tell I I don't want mahoosive menus? (The 'start' menu has been shrunk already!)

You can adjust this to something smaller. HTC has deliberately made it big to be finger friendly, but that results in scrolling for some program with longer list of items on the menu. I think under the tips and tricks thread you can see how to do it.
Cheers.
It also says in the user manual that this is the case and it shows you how to change it.

Are you talking about the start menu or the bottom menu? The start menu text size can be changed as described in page 41. In which page can you find how user could change the bottom menu text size?
The registry key has been mentioned in the Tips and Trick section. Alternatively, you can also change it using SKTools.

Trying to set up as much of my main menus to be as finger friendly as possible but find the much used (instead of Alt + Tab) Quick Menu icon (in the top right hand corner) small and difficult to operate - the drop menu itself is fine.
Does anyone know of a tweak or app to size it up a little. Annoyingly probably the most laggy drop menu as well - but that is a different storey.
Thanks in advance.
Yep, I'd be interested in that too.
Moreover since I use my leather protection case.
That's no problem:
Go to the QuickMenu settings -> second tab -> there is something called "...spacing..." or "...item distance..." (I have Russian version, other name ) -> increase the value to "10"!
You can also replace the original menu, so you don't have to hit the Window icon in the top left corner, can also be found in the settings.
Cheers!

It's called "Menu item edge", and for me the best value is 8.
Good: it seems there is a solution - but unable to find the Quick Menu settings.....Have been looking through the normal menus but are they perphaps in the registry (apologies for the ignorance but new to WinMo).
you can find the settings in the QuickMenu itself xD
I'd really like to see two things from QuickMenu for finger friendliness:
1. option for scrolling instead of cascading menus (with a decent implementation of scrolling of course)
1a option to have menus cover the width of the screen
2. option to have the "Running Tasks" submenu come up when the upper right corner of the taskbar is tapped (decent task manager functionality is already built in)
2a option to specify what task manager utility is launched from the "Running Tasks" submenu
I have a Fuze with everything turned off but what I want (runs quick and smooth). I really don't want 3rd party bloatware and other "TaskManager" or "QuickMenu" applications. I am simply looking for the syntax/shortcut (or maybe small app to launch the built-in HTC QuickMenu that is in the top right corner of the Windows Mobile screen.
I like this QuickMenu and the options that are available... most of all I like that it's already a part of my phone (so hopefully nothing more to install but a shortcut). From what I can tell it's part of the "taskservice.dll" that is loaded in \HKCU\Software\HTC\BootLauncher\TaskManager\
Since the Icon in the top-right for the QuickMenu is so small (and I hate getting out the stylus) I wish to map a shortcut/command-syntax preferrably to Right-Soft Key, or possibly a hardware button like PTT.
I've contacted HTC by email and they simply said it couldn't be done but I know that's probably not the case... I just need a super genious hacker to give me the right syntax/steps to make it work.
Thank you in advance for whoever can help on this!!!!
Michael
*** Please Relocate Thread if I have somehow posted it in the wrong section. Thanks!!! ***
all you have to do to launch QM from a hardware button is maake a shortcut to programs. then, go into \settings\personal\buttons and select your program to run from one of your buttons.
you can also go into qm settings and select the option to replace the start menu.
also, QM is a third party app.
SVI,
Thanks for the reply.. I guess I should have clarified that I am familiar with the steps for creating a shortcut to an EXE however the QuickMenu that is built in to HTC's Fuze is calling a DLL at startup... so the trick would be how do I shortcut/call a DLL file that has been started up as a service??
I am not interested in any other 3rd party QuickMenu, just wanting to find the way to call up the one that is already installed on my phone... ie. by pointing a shortcut (or possibly small launch app) to start up the "taskservice.dll" with whatever tags/options to open the menu on the Today Screen.
Thanks for any additional info you may be able to provide!
Could you found the solution?
no answers yet
Sancho,
I have still been unable to find the solution, and would very much STILL BE interested in finding it. In the meantime I have just used a shortcut to the built-in Taskmgr.exe (\Windows\Taskmgr) or TaskManagerApp.exe also found in Windows. Both programs are different versions of Task Manager and I found that I like Taskmgr a bit better because I can switch to an open application using that version of Task Manager. However I still like the HTC Quickmenu in the top right corner (other than the fact that it is way to small to hit with your finger) and would love to find a way to point a shortcut to the opening it up while on the Today Screen so that I can see running apps, easily close all, switch to one in particular, or see my power & memory settings.
If anyone still has any ideas on how I might accomplish this I would be extremely grateful! Again I am wanting to do this Natively, using the HTC QuickMenu (Taskservices.dll) already built-in and not interested in installing another 3rd party app that takes up memory.
Thanks in Advance for any help that may be offered!
Michael
Thank you for your fast reply!
Re: Shortcut/App to Launch HTC QuickMenu
I just got a fuze and when i went through the settings i found out what your probably trying to do. Go to Start/setting/the small tab on the bottom that you would find your ''hold end key button''/ Hold end key setting. when you get there , they will be a couple settings relating to what you want your end key shorcut to be. then you will click on ''access quick menu'' (or something like that).
The HTC Quick Menu 2.1 (Build 1918.3631) settings:
(Start / Settings / Systems / Task Manager / Button)
Enable the "X" button to end running programs
End programs by tapping "X"
End programs by tapping and holding "X"
Enable Quick Menu on Today screen
(no more...)
I don't think that it is possible to find a shortcut for this. (do hope that I'm wrong and somebody can find the way and share it here though)
But I would like to recommend one of my favorite light apps which can realize what you desired for. It is called HButton and created by an xda contributor, please referhere:
http://hbutton.dyndns.org/
In Hbtton settings, the <Ok/Close> function actually point to the upper-right corner of the screen.
Think you will like it.
No, thanks, I don't want to install 3rd party apps. : )
I think, need to find a solution here, as under Windows the "rundll32.exe" the "taskservice.dll" to run.
Hello,
I use a litte script for that on my TOPAZ (Mortscript is a third party program, but for me indespensable)
Code:
SendSpecial ("win")
Afterwards, you can map it to a button

This MortScript script is call the "Win" button and open the Start menu.
This is not an option, not a good.
We would like to open the HTC TaskManager (on right-up corner).

Thank you. But I think the "sleep" function is not too stable for me. I wrote a similar script already, I have not had good experiences.
Dit you try :
Code:
Show ("Desktop")
WaitForActive ("Desktop")
Mouseclick (470,10)

Error, because the WaitForActive is need a ",": WaitForActive ("Desktop",)
I try with WaitForActive ("Desktop",[0-3]), no action.

WG > I looked at the link provided and I am not quite sure I understand. from the looks of it.. it would appear to be another Task Manager type application? But are you saying that when configuring the "<Ok/Close>" function and using it, that it will activate the Quick Menu on the Today Screen by "pointing ot the upper-right corner of the screen"? or have I misunderstood you?
If in fact it activates the Quick Menu on the Today screen by activating the upper-right corner, then it may be an app worth trying.
If you could reply and please clarify that would be great.
If anyone else has additional info to add on how I might do this natively that would be AWESOME!
Thanks in advance for your help!
wow... lol. ok so I guess there's been a few more posts since WG posted and my reply to his was a bit outta place.
But it sounds like Sancho unerstands what I am looking for.
I am not looking for another Task Manager/Menu, or the "Quick Access List" menu as defined by the "Long Press End Key" in the System Settings.
I am looking for the shortcut/syntax/code/scrip to access what is referred to in the Registry as the HTCQuickMenu (running taskservices.dll) and execute the drop down on the today screen from the small icon in the upper-right corner looks like: ≡ˇ
thanks!

Hello, sorry for the waiting (I was on a boattrip )
First you need to know how your desktop is called with this script:
You clic on this script and hurry to your desktop (the windowname is showed for 5 sec
Code:
Sleep 5000
X1 = ActiveWindow()
Sleepmessage (5, X1)
The you copy this windowname in the script
Code:
Show ("NAME")
WaitForActive ("NAME", 6)
Mouseclick (470,10)
Hi All,
today i installed SPB Pocket Plus, a great app, but when i want to customize it, i experienced a problem, i could not view items in a drop down menu, it just shows 1 item and could not select another.
For example; when i want to change the Tab header position, it give me a dropdown menu, default is 'On Top', but i could not select another
could i change the settings for a dropdown menu in the registry, of is there somewhere a fix for it?
Using a Deepshining ROM with WM 6.5.
Thanks in advance!
i had the exact same problem which look like to be a rom issue but you can use the down arrow on the d-pad,it'll get u to the next option
when i press on the Down button on the d-pad. nothing happens.
There must be a registry tweak to modify the length of the dropdown menu.
looks like the SPB software modified is, because when i remove it, i could change 'button behaviour' . after installing SPbs software i couldn't.
when typing a character when the dropdown menu is selected it will change it., so defenately the length of the menu is not set correctly.
it used to work for me but all of theat was gone when i updated my rom, ofcourse i don't suggest that u do that for such a minor issue

Hi (I'm new here!)
I'm trying to set up my Touch 2 so that it looks and feels exactly how I want it, and I'm nearly there. The only issue I have is the bottom bar. On the home screen it current has "Phone" and "Contacts" as its default, and I'd love to either change it or (preferably) remove the bottom bar completely. I trawled through the user guide from htc.com and I've tried using the Search here to no avail so I just thought I'd ask. Any clues?
Thanks in anticipation....
(by the way, how do I take a screenshot of my phone to post on here?)
Hello,
I think you mean the softkeys...well, as far as i know there is no option to remove them but you can change them with this tool:
h__p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151
advanced config > menu > key mapping
Laberkopf
To make a screen shot you can use this program...but there are many more.......when you search
This is an easy question for some of you guys but I cant solve it,I have installed SPB mobile shell v3.5.5 and need to type in my owner id but can't find where to.I have looked everywhere.Do I have to do a hard reset and use contacts and "Me" then reinstall all my info or is there an easy way
Heres hoping.
Don
Hi Don, I had this exact issue and firstly it is possible, I did it.
Secondly I may not have done it the slickest of methods but at least this gets you there. I've tried to recall two routes depending upon where you are starting from.
a) HTC Sense UI:
If you are still in the original UI (HTC Sense) scroll sideways to the "Setting" tab. Touch the "Menu" softkey (bottom right) then "All Settings". You should then see a selection of icons from which touch "Today". That will get you to the old Today settings. See below for next steps.
b) SPB Mobile shell UI
If you are in this shell instead, hit "Launcher". You should now see an icon labled "Settings" (else swipe sideways to the second page to see it). Hit that takes you to a screen with more icons including one for "Today" with a cogwheel on the top of it. Hit that takes you to the old Today settings. Now see below.
Today Settings
Once here. Hit the "Items" tab. Remove any tick on the "HTC Sense" option (else the originally Today Screen won't appear later) and then tick the "Owner Info" option (and any others you fancy). Click on "OK" should now get you back to the old Today screen with the "Owner Info" today plugin showing. It can then be selected and the necessary info add. You can then go back into the today settings and re-tick the HTC Sense item if you want the original UI back and not the Today screen. Personally I use the SPB shell and the today screen rather than the HTC Sense.
I did this a long time ago so my recall may be a bit fuzzy for example; if the "Owner Info" isn't visible in the list of Items in the Today settings (it may not be) then you'll have to go into a reg editor (if you are comfortable doing such things) and navigate to :
[Mobile Device\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\]
Then ensure that the key "Owner Info" is present (add if necessary) and enable it (disabling "HTC Sense" at the same time as it seems to overide any other selection). If the key is missing (or you don't have a reg editor) and you need help at this level just drop me a line and I'll post a copy of my settings and suggest a few methods of accessing your registry.
Good luck.
Anybody found an easir way?
Regards - Mallow1
settings - menu - all settings - personal - owner
Sam,
Thanks but my phone doesn't have "owner" at the end of your sequence. I suspect Don is having the same issue (hence me originally having to go into the reg to get access to it to fix mine as nothing obvious was accessible). FYI this is independent of how I get there (through HTC Sense, SPB Shell etc).
Regards - Mallow1
PS I have an unlocked HD2 (none carrier specific) which looks to have originally been packaged for the German market (I'm in the UK and bought it online)
Just to add ti the conversation, my HD2 does not have the Owner when Igo to Personal either.
Ahh course, my mistake.
Hints tips reg tweaks sticky in Q&A section, tip 5 to unhide that option kindly hidden by HTC.
Thanks Mallow1 That did it,thank you all very much.I went to Today ,items and ticked HTC sense that gave me the chance to go to contacts and add the Me details.
