QUESTION about restoring Messages from WM5 to WM6 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

hey everybody..
i have an inquiry...
my device is i-mate K-Jam
i'm using official rom WM5
and using SPB Backup programe for backing up my messages ...
My question is: If i upgrade my Rom to WM6 or WM6.1 and try to restore my backup file ... will it work?
and if i change the SPB to any programe for backing up my messages..and try to restore it in my new Rom will it work??
Thank you all..

First of all, there was no need for posting in bigger fonts,we all can see and read in normal fonts,it doesn't give you an added attraction.Avoid such posts in future, its waste of forum resources.
Secondly, yes, you can restore back the contacts/personal data after upgrading to wm6,if you use the same program while restoring, with which you back up.Other very good back up application is 'PimBackup' try that also.

Thanks for replying me ..
do you recommend me a Rom supports arabic?
about ur note ... i will avoid that next time
Thank you again bro

I need help restoring my windows mobile 2003 software

Hi I have a big problem and i need all the help i can get
I have an XDA IIi but i accidently deleted all the data on it
the opertating system is gone the screen is only showing me Serial 1.0
and when i connect to my pc only shows USB 2.0
I would like to know if somebody can help me out with this and tell me how to restore the software to my device, i have a backup copy on my SD card, but i don't know how to used
Please help me
thanks
[/b]
have to reflash it
how did it happen?
did you try puting any rom version in it or what?
more info is needed
hey
I was trying to upgrade the radio version of the phone, but the version i was installing was not desgined for the XDAIIi , so, instead of upgrading, it deleted of the rom of the device and now the operating system is gone
the only thing i still have is the backup copy that i made defore the upgrade
i don't know if there is a way to use that backup copy in order to restore the system
thanks
Recommendation
It is propably that the system ROM was erased during upgrade and the upgrade wasn't successfull. Try to download the Diamond 1.2 WM2003se(my recommendation) ROM images package(somewhere available at this forums(Himalaya Upgrade)) and aferwards to flash your device with these files. If u want,u can try also the WM05 system.
He said his device is an Xda IIi not the old II.. Well you can reinstall back ur old ROM, no worries.. Download from my-xda.com..
i or not i
I thing there's no matter if is it IIi or simple II. Or not?
How do I fash my device in order to install diamond 1.2?
I also was looking an upgrade for the XDA IIi but now there are not offering any updates, I have tried to install the upgrades for the XDAII but it gives me an errror telling me that the ROM version is different and it cannot be installed
...
If you mean the Country ID Error while attempting to flash the WM05 system, there's a problem of this OS. 2003se is without problem(for me). Simply download the Diamond ROM from this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18287
or directly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=3739
This contains 4 files(maybe more, but these are important).
-HimaUpgradeUt.exe
-ms_.nbf (Extended ROM image)
-nk.nbf (System Image)
-Radio_.nbf (Radio stack)
Start the bootloader(probably you are there),put the Hima to cradle,Windows at your computer detects your device and then extract the downloaded file into one folder and run HimaUpgradeUt.exe
This utility is writing what you should do.
As I have readed that the WM05 OS is a little bit buggy(some compatibility problems etc..) at this time to use in Hima. Therefore I am using the 2003se.
Thanks a lot!

Of course it does matter.. Remember that the II and IIi is now a really different device even though both looks identical.. For example, u said he can upgrade to WM2005 (or ROMs that was meant only for Xda II), but of course this can't be done, this is bcos the difference in hardware specs, 4 example IIi has 1.3 MP cam (II = 0.3MP), 128MB RAM, 128MB ROM (II=128MB RAM, 64MB ROM) and so on..
JorgeGZC, I'm glad to be of help to you..
Oh sorry.
I didn't know. I'll be well advised.
İ am a mda2 user. İve bought my device from Germany and after that i changed its ROM to an english one using a rom editor to change its country id .. This encouredged a close friend of mine and he bought a O2 XDA2i. And since both me and my friend have no idea about German language we immediately tried to convert it to an english ROM.
And using a wrong ROM (sinmerged 2003 se for himalaya) i killed his machine. It now only writes serial or usb (when connected to cradle). Someone told us that if we flash it with a original German ROM it can work again. But there is no German ROM downloadable . And even if we find a German Rom and install it , it wont solve our language problem. I am a dentist and i even cannot believe how much i've learned browsing these forums
If you can help me i will be very happy!
note : in the ftp server there is rom named german rom for xda2i.. But its a lie. its in english
The same?
That looks like the same problem as at the top of this topic. Just read all this posts once again and you'll get the right way to solve your problem. Hope that helps.
I also have the same problem. I tried to install the wrong upgrade. I've downloaded the new one but i keep getting a connection problem message because activesync can't find the XDA. Help please!!!!
...
When you are in bootloader then ActiveSync will not find the device to synchronise with(cause the WMOS is not running and therefore is any synchronisation disabled). When you put into the cradle, the computer should find new device(Microsoft USB Sync). Then is the device connected and ready to update.

Hard reset after sending mms

Hello everybody,
I tried finding it in the forum first but, no luck.
My XDAII sometimes does a hard reset after sending an MMS. I regulary send MMS without any problem.
At first I tought the battery was too low but yesterday it did the hard reset with 32% battery power left.
Anyone?
ROM 1.72.00WWE
Radio 1.17.00
MMS 1.6.0.14
Greetings from Belgium
I've had the same problem before. A right pain in the a*se
It did it again! Now its really starting to p*ss me off.
With still 48% of battery remaining, the thing did a hard reset all by itself while sending MMS and again this happened during my holiday.
Tomtom and al the rest gone with the wind. Nice.
Anybody with a solution?
Greetings to all
It might be the general bug for xda.. try upgrading to latest ROM or as much as possible always have a backup of all your datas!!
Thanks,
I do have a back-up of all my data but since it happened during my holiday abroad it didn't do me any good because the back up data was sitting on my pc at home and my 1GB card was filled with tomtom maps and music..
I now have the 1.72.00WWE ROM version.
Since it runs very stable (except for the mms bug) I no longer am up to date about the latest versions of ROM's. Which one would you suggest?
Greetings
try downllading 2.06WWE and 2.02WWE.. first.. flash the 2.02WWE and back it up using activesync then reflash with 2.06. after flashing with 2.06 restore the 2.02 backup then youll have a stable 2003SE ROM.. you have to delete some file on the /windows/startup/
and also you can try wm2005
Cheers!

Wowow, I can manage changing languages of ROM and upgrading ROM but if you start talking about deleting files in Windows/Startup I'm in over my head.
I will look for a later version of my ROM and simply try an upgrade.
If been looking for one on this forum but the offer is too big.
It would be great if you would have a link to the latest downloadable english ROM for XDA II
Thanks again for your reply
Thanx guys for the solution......i also had that problem.....

The only version available for download is 1.72.181. Are the others unofficial updates or something?
I've got the MMS problem too and I really want to sort it out. I lost the video of my friend eating jelly with a knife and fork thanks to this :x

Time to upgrade Roms, what should I do?

I've got an Exec which I've had since last November. Its got a fair few apps on there, and will be annoyed to have to put it all back on after a rom upgrade, plus my contacts, hence I've refrained from upgrading...
...but the speed of the thing is painful now, and I'm thinking perhaps its time to start from scratch.
My current versions...
Rom Version: 1.13.48 WWE
Rom Date: 09/19/05
Radio Version: 1.04.02
Protocol Version: 42.37.P8
ExtRom Version: 1.13.139 WWE
So I want the following...
- Upgrade to the more efficient/appropriate/feature packed Rom
- Increase the speed of the thing
- Save my contacts, is there a master file I can backup?
- Save my TomTom Favourites and config?
- Retain my Outlook TXT Inbox/Saved Messages?
Where do I obtain such a rom that you'd recommend to be the best to go to, and that won't leave me stranded, i.e. no further updates to it.
I HATE ActiveSync and would prefer not to use it, but if theres no other choice, fair enough.
Really appreciate your help!
I think you are out of luck, I've used backup software to save all my programs but when upgrading the ROM it tells me that the it's not the sme device and not to restore it. I've done the restore but it never worked.
At the very least I would use active sync to backup your contacts then delete it.
I backed up using SPB backup on my O2 XDA Exec running the latest O2 ROM, then I installed the latest QTEK ROM, as i need A2DP. I then ran the backup file, which restored all my files and apps.
Everything is working smoothly, so it seems that cross ROM backups can be done.

It says V1.0.0 Build 1134
Surely thats dangerous incase system files are replaced from the wrong rom?
Eitherway, what about the Rom I should upgrade to? Which would everyone recommend?

I didn't really expect the restore to work after the rom upgrade, but there was only one way to find out. And I didn't relish the thought of re-installing all my apps and registry hacks. As for dangerous, if it goes wrong, just hard reset.

Hi, Can I ask you a question out of scope : I want to upgrade my Universal from a Swiss ROM to the latest Qtek, but can not find proper info on how to proceed. Fact is I get of course the country ID error. I found the procedure in such case, but it only applies for upgrade of ROMs that are in .zip files. And the Qtek one is only to be found in .exe, here in the ftp. Am I missing something?
Thanks!
Prerna would you mind please starting your own thread...
Pantaloonie thanks for your reply. AD2P isn't something I have any knowledge with, what on earth is it? hehe
Guess I'm looking for a rom that is feature packed with useful tools, more so than the O2 bundles.

backup and software

Hi,
I'm newbie on tuning my HTC P3300.
I'd like to upgrade my ROM but for first I'd wanted to backup my old ROM and my personal datas.
Could you advice me good tools to do so please and wher to find them ?
Thanks for your help
Regards
----------
HTC P3300
operateur : 21.184.2.732
ROM : 1.84.73.2.FRE
date ROM : 20/12/2006
radio : 02.67.90
Ok, I've found PPCPIMBackup to backup my datas (contacts ...) and it works fine.
I should have prefer a soft like Nokia PC suite that does permit to make a complete backup on PC with contacts and every datas(mp3 ...) but it's ok.
Now my problem is to save my ROM to be able to restore it if my upgrade fails.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you, this post is really interesting.
But it seems that both tools (aWizard and itsutils) are not working perfectly. Some people are having troubles with them. Furthermore last post of the topic you show me was " How to restore?" ... but it was on october 2007...
Is there now a better way and a reliable way to backup and restore a rom ?
Thanks a lot
I had no problems with the tools. I managed to extract all the needed files from my device Ok. I think its mainly just a misunderstanding by most of the people trying to use the programs and not knowing which sectors to use etc. .
And yes once you have all the necessary files you can you HTC ROM tool to rebuild the files back into your ROM. HTC ROM tool is what most of the developers here use to actually cook an extended ROM.

Please help to an old member of the forum!

download pimbackup from this site. you can backup your contacts, email & sms with it to put back on once you have flashed.
Suggest you dont backup system data as you cannot restore this safely on a newer os.
look at the good guide on upgrade section, i recomend lazy tools way.
Ur device is not network locked? so u should be ok.
If you ensure u have an original wm5 rom you can always flash this as a backup if flashing to wm6 or 6.1 goes wrong
good luck and welcome to flashing.........
Hi Timmy,
I backup cotacts sms and emails with pimbackup. But I have doubt if WM6,1 wont recognize this backup.
My ppc all unlock, CID etc.
Could the rom updating corrupt imei area?
And the last famous question which rom should I install??

When you upgrade to cooked 6.1 it will more than likely have pimbackup on it, if not install it. You will have no problems restoring ur contacts, email etc (system data & settings is the only problem so dont use it). I have used this method and there was no problem.
Im afraid i cant answer your imei querie, your best asking a mod (l3v3y is very knowledgable )
As for active sync password, do you mean the unlock code to get access to your device when its turned on? Ive not seen active sync with a password before. Im sure a hard resest would get rid of this password, but if your going to flash a rom, dont worry about it, it wont be there after your flash.
Ha Ha.... best rom? famous question..... There are many good roms out there. It is purely personal choice. Do you want a clean one (max speed and free storage) which you can then add the applications you want, or do you want a full one (maybe a little slower but not much) which comes with a lot of apps cooked in. Disadvantage of full rom ? - apps are always being updated and if apps are cooked in you cannot unistall them to then update them. So i guess you have to read up on the roms and decided.
Look for roms from l3v3y, varanusvincent, gullum, dioxda 2, all great chefs and have released many good roms.
Try a few and test them, only one way to find out. U'll find u cant stop flashing and testing when you start.
Read the good guide on upgrading section (the stickys). THis one is good too : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377904.
I assume you are upgrading from wm5 original rom, so spend a few hours reading, belief me its worth it
Have fun!
ps let me know how you get on with imei thing, i want to know too, you can never know too much!!!
Thank you very much Timmymarsh,
I updated the rom to Prophet Diamond and I ll try different roms as you said.
restore my data to new rom.

Mostly in my experience. You may get a message that "this program was designed for a previous version and may not display properly) but generally they work fine, you may just not have a full screen or some text isnt shown.
Afraid thats a "try and see" experiment too my friend
