Hello, i start to be very confused after many trials. What should i actually buy to have tomtom on my HTC Touch Hd? I bought the maps for the HTC Touch Pro, are those the correct ones? the device is similar. Do I have to buy additional software to use the maps with my gps?

Executive Summary: the touch HD is not compatible with the TT7 maps.
Hi to All,
after having bought the TT7 maps, TomTom is going to reimburse me since the maps are not compatible with our device. What a pity, let's wait for TomTom to support the best device ever! They are loosing one occasion for sales, and we are loosing the occasion of a great commercial product with a good customer service

Ummm, not quite true. Tomtom have not released a version for the HD and therefore tomtom home version 2.4 is not compatible. However if you have purchased your maps, i suggest you do a search for the tomtom 7.910 cab and install it to your device. Get yourself a copy of an older version of tomtom home (version 1.5) which will allow you to connect your device to download and install the maps.
Many members have tt7 working with no problems.
However, you can only change your device once every 6 months. Therefore if you have just recently purchased maps for your touch pro, you will have to wait until the 6 months is up before you can transfer your liscence to the HD. If you no longer have your touch pro - you can request a code change, but you have to provide evidence that you have changed your device - i gave up at this point!

Hello Ardsar, I do understand your point and no need to convince me you are fully right since i know very well that "many members"....
but the point is that i never bought a touch pro with TT7, i wanted to BUY tomtom7 for my touch HD since i FEEL it should work perfectly well on my touch HD. But only TomTom itself can SELL me TomTom7 and its maps....so I purchased the maps and waited for instructions. Since they preferred to refund me instead of solving my problem, it is clear that TomTom is not ready to be SOLD to touch HD owners and we'll have to wait to see if our FEELINGS are correct or not....what do you FEEL?

Tomtom decided some time ago that it was not going to release further versions of tomtom onto the retail market. Instead, they have gone the OEM route meaning that unless tomtom is pre-installed on your device, it is not possible to purchase. In fact, the only OEM partner that Tomtom have is with HTC, hence the reason for TTN7 only being available on the Touch PRo and Touch Diamond PDA's. This is also the reason why only these devices are listed when you try and buy a map.
Rumour has it that the Touch HD will be supported before xmas, however for those that already have the phone without the tomtom application, the only way to obtain the software itself (not the maps) is through these and other forums. I don't know if tomtom will ever release TTN7 fully into the market, however by them taking this stance, they must sureley be losing customers.
TT7
I did exactly that. I have maps of USA and Canada and had TT 7 on my Touch Diamond. I still had TT HOME 1.5 on my computer. It recognized the HD without any problems whatsoever and one I called support to change my device code, from Diamond to HD worked perfectly. TT7 looks awesome on my HD. I even talked to the lady helping me at TT. She said, wow a Touch HD, ive heard those are nice and promptly gave me a new device code!!...
This was TOM TOM support talking!!!!!!

What does everyone think is the best Sat Nav software to use with the Trin? I'm a fan of Navigon Mobile Navigator, I've tried a few others but I can't decide which one to keep for sure...
I personally like Tomtom.. as everybody will tell you. I used iGuidance a bit but it kind of lagged and I like Tomtom's interface better. I still want to try Navigon but they don't have a trial on their website so meh.
I've tried Iguidance 2&3 and tomtom 6 on p3600 with the axl wm6 rom.
I only like Iguidance version 2 though as version 3 has significant voice lags. I believe it is the recordings that are messed up and might be able to swap over the audio files from version 2 to version 3 install folders.
TOMTOM 6 works great once it has loaded which takes about 3-4 minutes for me. I need it to load faster to be useable. I think the POI database on tomtom is better though i've not done any comparisons.
think am getting iguidance 4
Hi,
I haved use the TomTom 6 for a while, but Igo 2006 have a best interface. Not to say also that TomTom need the atifix software for not to freeze. You should try Igo 2006 and you will see that you do not need anything else.
Best
Dave
Tomtom all the way for me......really simple to you and works for what I want. (I have only tried TT and CoPilot though)
No1. MioMap ( iGo)
Very close No2. TomTom.
You can not go wrong with these two. Stay well away from Navigon.
I could not coment on any others since I have not tried them.
I have tested Mio 3.2 and TT 6 on my Trinity and both work seamlesly.
You can have both of these installed and they will work happily alongside each other.

i've used google maps, smart2go, garmin cue and tomtom6 - i much prefer the usability of tomtom6 far ahead of the others.
real shame there are no New Zealand maps though

Can anyone help me out with the Orange GPS software. I have downloaded it and shows the gps as not active, any suggestions please.
I have called orange but they are hopeless.
cheers
Where are the maps voor iGo 4?
1st thing to check is that you have a GPS enabled ROM. All Orange SPV M700's are supposed to, but it seems a few slipped through the net. Also, if you have 'unlocked' the device, your radio ROM may have been replaced by an old version.
Go to Start/Settings/System/Device Information and look at the entry for Radio ROM. If it ends in **.11 you are OK; if not you will need to update the Radio ROM.
Have you got the Orange Navigation (Webraska) configured to COM9 and 57600 Baud? These are the default settings for the M700.

3-4 Minutes? Mine loads in 10 seconds and I've never had it freeze or crash.
How many POI's do you have selected? That apparently can slow it down a bit.
tomtom 6 all the way for me
loads fast....he may mean to find sats..mine takes about 30 seconds to find the sats

Ireland is included in the maps of western europe, or if you prefer just the maps of UK and IE. So it is present.
I've used igo 2006 and tomtom 6 for quite a while. While I like Igo much more than tomtom, the traffic system on tomtom is cool and to get traffic on Igo you need TMC Antenna. The only GPS units I found that have those cost the earth, so I am sticking with tomtom. And of course, because tomtom is soooo common, you find lots of people trying to customise it and as a consequence, you get thousands of poi's, many many cool voices... etc.
But to put things in perspective, if I had traffic on Igo, I would switch without a second thought. Hope this helps.
I'm not sure if TomTom Navigation 6 will be working on Touch HD. As the new HTC comes without TomTom 7 pre-installed, which obviously cannot be bought from a retailer, I have to look for a new navigation software. Will Navigon be working on the new device?
It is certainly a good idea to choose a navi software from a company that has a commitment to PDA navigation, and hence new maps and mapshare-like offerings will be compatible. TT does not in general, but currently has a deal in place to provide navi software and updates for selected HTC devices only (Diamond, Raphael). But only with V7 maps, the latest V8-maps are not offered. And if you want TT7 for your HD, you have to revert to the underground
But let me point out to Sygic Drive, a fine navi soft from Slovakia, sold as McGuider by TT-owned company TeleAtlas. http://www.sygic.com/
Hello,
I'm looking into enabling gps on my VZW XV6800 and I saw that the TomTom7 is out. Does the TomTom 7 work on the XV6800 or will I have to use the TomTom6?
Thanks,
Chris

I'm an advance GPS user with a Verizon Titan (XV6800) and custom ROM. I'm fully unlocked with a completely functioning GPS (no AGPS here and no digital connection fees).
I'm really impressed with Garmin XT for the phone and novice users. The added features through WIFI are very good. Speedcams and other added features are easily obtained for for a small fee or free for experienced users (lots of sites to download free).
Superior of all the SW out there is IGO8, 3D terrain and 3D buildings in major cities (WoW). Highly customizable --- the very best (NavNGO.com)
I would not buy or desire to use Tom Tom, I have over 40 hours of use and do not like their SW no matter how I try.
Least expensive SW with the greatest utility (including free trial) is POLNav v5.
RangerDave and ShadowT thanks for the info.
RangerDave could you point me in the direction where I can download the TT7 for the XV6800? Also I believe that once I have the TT7 running it will ask me to download a map of my area to demo correct?
Thanks,
Chris

Well since you have 2 posts here I will tell you like this.
Dear Mr @%$^*!$$.
Asking for free software is not following the rules here.
You will either pay $$ for it or hit up your other friend "google" and see what he says. Even with google you may still pay for it with a nice fat bug on your pc.
I'm not going to tel you how to get it for free unless tomtom web site has a free trial, then you still have to unlock the software, optain the map, unlock the map, create a pair of files with some special code that were a pain in the butt..............
RD
Ok,
I'm not looking at getting it for free what I'm not understanding is you said you had TT7 working. I go to TomTom's site I don't see TT7 Navigator only TT5 and TT6. Then I read that the Navigator is free but you have to buy the maps. I don't have a problem buying the maps as long as I know it works on my phone. From what I had read in other posts is that you can install TT7 and then through TT7 go to the TomTom site and download a demo map of your area. This is what I want to try to find out if I can get it working on my phone. I know I have to do some rom upgrades and radio upgrades to get GPS working on the phone but I would like to try it with a Demo if they have one before I go out and buy it. When I asked for a link I was more referring to a link on TomTom's site where the TT7 could be downloaded with the demo maps. However I can't even find TT7 on the site at all.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
I have the mogul 6800 and have the TT7 and it is pretty reliable- so highly recommend it. I paid someone (works at cellphone place) to upgrade my rom (Sprint) and get the GPS working. I have also tried iGO8 but it was somewhat buggy... but great app. My bud has iGuidance 09 on his XV6800, it works great as the TT7 and doesn't hogg the few memory that the htc 6800 has... But my other bud has the HTC Touch Pro with Garmin TX and that is the best one, visual speaking..
But I say the TT7 is just right for the 6800... I hear the new Diamond2 will also pre-installed too.
Worth upgrading to get the GPS working...
Good luck Chris...
ok so I have TT7 loaded on my XV6800 and I have the "Valhalla_Legends_GPSServer" running in Mode=0. Google maps works great about 6 sats. GPS Toggle also says about 6 sats and another program I have for gps works. However when I have TomTom up the GPS signals keep jumping all over the place. Not the normal slight jumping but I'll go from North South East West and back and forth. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
So i've got TomTom working by using GpsGate 2.6 and setting tomtom to use Other NMEA GPS receiver with baud rate of 9600 and the Franson COM2. I'm not sure why it's working this way but then again I wasn't sure why the GPS cordinates where jumping all over when I had it set to use Internal GPS without GpsGate. The problem I have right now is that GpsGate is only a demo for 14 days. Does anyone know of a freeware app that will do the same thing or another way to get TomTom to work?
Thanks
I installed TomTom 7 on my XV6800 with all the maps and it works, but it says: "No GPS device!"
My GPS is unlocked and was working with google navigator, but the problem is that i have to have wifi to download maps and such.
Can someone help me getting the GPS activated with TomTom?

I'm having real problems gettings TomTom Nav 5 to run on my X1.
I had it running fine on a Touch Pro (UK o2 stock), but the phone had a fault. So did the replacement phone, so I've now ended up with an X1 which as far as I can tell is pretty much the same hardware as the Touch Pro (excet for the screen size, obviously).
On previous HTC phones I've had to manually install TomTom Nav5 from the three cabs in the 2577 directory as the autorun.exe setup would fail. BUT the install worked fine and the software ran fine afterwards.
With the X1, when I run up the software I get a corrupted agreement screen (attached as iagree.png) which stays on screen for about 10-15 seconds, then the Windows Mobile 'there was a problem' screen (attached as problem.png).
This repeats a couple of times after sending the log data, then I'm back to my programmes folder.
Has anyone managed to get Nav 5 to work on the X1?
I know poeple have Nav7 working, but as I bought Nav5 and it worked on the Touch Pro I am loath to spend more money on software which was doing me fine up unutil this phone (I also have a Go910 which I use for most SatNav use, but its handy to have my old Nav5 on my phone for when I don't have the Go with me).
Cheers,
FM
TomTom Navigator 7 works fine on the X1.
http://www.tomtom.com/landing_pages/navigator7/en-gb/
As I said, I know TTN 7 works on the X1, but I have a fully paid for version of TTN5.
TTN5 worked fine on my Touch Pro, until the Touch Pro developed a fault. o2 are not able to supply the Touch Pro (Serra) any more in the UK, so I've had to make do with an X1.
I don't want to have to pay for TTN7, and I'd rather not have to go down the route of a cracked version of TTN7 when, as I say, I have a fully legit paid for version of TTN5.
TTN5 worked fine on all of my previous HTC phones, o2 XDA IIs, o2 XDA Mini S, O2 XDA Orbit and the Serra. The Serra being the first of the phones I've had with a VGA screen but TTN5 coping with it perfectly.
Woudl have been nice if TT had offered an upgrade path to TTN7 (or even TTN6), but they chose not to.
Now I'm stuck with a phone that won't run what I've paid for - because of o2 taking 3 months to replace my (Serra) handset with a new one (they failed to repair the firs, then replaced it with a refurb with a different fault!)
TTN5 installs OK, as I say in the first post, but fails to run with not much clue as to what might be causing it.
What are the diffs between the X1 and the Serra other than different screen resolution and aspect ratio, the missing accelerometer and different keyboard and keys layout? From the specs they appear to be very very similar, and the OS is surely the same (or could there be missing dlls from the o2 ROM maybe?)
-FM
Same here. For me it was even the guy from the TomTom helpdesk indicating that only TT7 will work on an X1 but that this version is not for sale.
He was very sorry that he could not help me with a legitimate solution...
When did you speak to TomTom? TTN7 is now out and available for WinMo phones.
ZI currently have a tytn II and my tp2 comes tomorrow. As of now I run tomtom 6 with u.s. maps. I am wondering what is out there for the tp2 with u.s. navigation. Any help I can get is much appreciated.
I made the same move from a tytn 2, I managed to download version of tomtom7 (7.45?) and used my tomtom 6 maps I already had. As tomtom won't support the TP2 I didn't see the point of paying out for TT7 which would need to be fiddled with to work. I only use the tp2 as a backup anyway now, as I have satnav in the car.
